Team sports are multi-directional and yet I see to little focus on lateral and multi-directional speed and power.
We work on this a LOT with all our athletes. Think about a lateral slide in basketball 🏀, a lateral shift to avoid a defender in football 🏈 or rugby 🏉, moving side to side to catch a ball in tennis 🎾….and on and on it goes.
How much are you working on frontal plane (side to side) speed, strength, power, explosiveness?
Here are just some examples of exercises we use as I could share a ton more of them, but the key being in what we’re purposeful training and developing.
