War, famine, natural disasters, economic collapse. We've seen in recent history how vulnerable we really. When the worst happens it's important to know where and how to get food to keep you and your family alive. In this video I share some primitive wild foods that can be of great benefit in times of dire need. I have lots of experience eating all of these foods. They are:
1) ants
2) cattails
3) chitons, limpets & sea urchins
4) cactus
5) grass
6) leafy greens
7) grasshoppers
8) juniper berries
9) seaweed
10) raw fish
What wild foods would you add to this list?

I am writing an isekai story where the main character is transported to a desert of a magical world as an orc, so seeing all these videos of yours (among other youtubers like Andy Ward and Bob Hansler) *REALLY* helps me out for making the world building all the more real!

Thank you Chad for sharing your knowledge. Identifying leafy greens or edible berries is usually where I get overwhelmed. I've yet to try any insects. Yes, in certain parts of the world people eat them regularly, but then there's others that will tell you it's unhealthy to eat bugs. They say the chitin isn't easily digestible, but I'd be down to try them cooked. Maybe cooking will break down the chitin enough to where it can be more easily digested! I've also read somewhere that a handful of earthworms is about as much protein as a Cheeseburger.
@ChadZuberAdventures
@ChadZuberAdventures 6 месяцев назад
Most plants aren't fully digestible either, especially in raw form. The chitin isn't digestible and thus it passes through the digestive system as insoluble fiber. No big deal. This is happening with most things that you eat. People often complicate nutrition when they dive deep into it. The problem with science is that it creates a certain kind of ignorance. I don't get into the science but rather exercise faith in the foods that God put on this earth for us to eat and I go more by the history of indigenous tribes that have used these foods for thousands of years.

Hello! You have a good selection of notes about food in the wild, especially from personal experience. I saw a documentary about eating grasshoppers, etc. and there, in order to get rid of parasites in the stomach, they tore off the head of a grasshopper and gently pulled out the digestive system with it, and then strung it like a barbecue and cooked on a fire.
@ChadZuberAdventures

Ah, now this is the kind of stuff I like best on Chad's channel. Spending a little more time, going a bit slower, and giving a bit more detail on the different subjects would be nice. Like which Juniper Berries are NOT edible. Over all, nice video, Chad. ;-)
@ChadZuberAdventures
@ChadZuberAdventures 6 месяцев назад
This video took me 26 hours to research and edit. I just don't have the time to go super deep. But I mentioned the edible juniper berries. The others should be avoided. But furthermore, nobody should just take the information they find from one source and run with it. It's always best to compare information from different sources and the best information may come from native peoples who actually use these foods on a regular basis. Like what I shared about experts not recommending that a person get water from cactus. I've read conflicting information about that and my own experience shows that it can indeed work but not with all cacti.
