This mania overall was average in quality with an all timer in the middle of it. The only other noteworthy thing was that Chicago street fight with The Nation and L.O.D. Very brutal match. At the time the Hart and Austin match was really a audible decision because if things would of played out as originally thought of then it should of been the rematch with Hart and Michaels. The Hart and Austin match was really violent. I remember as a kid being legit worried for Bret's well being through that match since I was such a Bret fan. On top that it was the 2nd matchup they had, and that seems to get lost. I rarely hear anyone refer to the match Austin and Hart at the Survivor Series that November before Mania. That match was just as good.
Oh come on Adam you left out the biggest fact of them all. Shawn vacating the belt because he didn't want to drop it to Bret. "I lost my smile." And what about The Rock being the first 3rd generation wrestler to compete at Mania?
I loved Wrestlemania 13 even if it didn't sell out the Chicago arena that night or if it didn't do well in sells & promotion wise. I don't care because I loved watching & seeing "Bret the Hitman Hart vs Stone Cold Steve Austin" & "Psycho Sid vs the Undertaker" two of the best memorable Wrestlemania matches ever hands down despite what others think & say about it.
You guys left out the biggest mania 13 fact! Shawn was meant to face Bret for the WWF title in the main event and Shawn was meant to drop to Bret to repay the favour the Hitman done for him at mania 12 but he faked an injury then lost his smile and handed over the title. What an unprofessional loser he was back then!
False. Vince Mcmahon's right hand man Bruce Pritchard confirmed that the idea of Shawn dropping the title to Bret was NOT the plan...and didn't know where that rumor came from. Goes to show that you can't believe everything you hear from dirtsheet writers.
@@cfhar080591 He backed up Bret's claim of Hogan refusing to drop the title to Bret in 93'.....he's got no reason to lie in this instance. Bret himself has never claimed Shawn was supposed to drop to him at WM 13. In fact, by all accounts Shawn was scheduled to drop the title back to Sid prior to WM13.....not Bret Hart. Looking back on how it all ended up playing out in early 97', it points to Sid being the middle man between Shawn and Undertaker. Once Shawn went home, Bret filled that role.
that hitman v austin match is still some of the most brilliant story telling in wrestling. a double turn is very hard to pull off and they did so like it was nothing
I was there at wrestlemania 13 all the way up in the nosebleed section I was about 9. It was a good show but unfortunately at that time wcw was dominating the ratings, that's why it didn't sell in tickets or ppv buys
the main event was supposed to be wwf champion Shawn Michaels vs Bret Hart with the hitman getting the win and title but hbk refused to drop the belt to bret makes you think what would have happened if they had gone through it then maybe bret would have dropped the title to hbk at survivour series, thankfully the Austin v bret submission match was awesome, arguably better than the iron man match at the previous mania.
@@aaronneville1164well if you think that and believe bruce Prichard that's your opinion but the bret hart shawn michaels match was going to happen until he fake his injury and lost his smile just because he didn't want to bret over like bret did for him at wm 12
1997 is my favorite (and in my opinion the best) year of the Attitude Era. It was the perfect blend of long-term storytelling, high quality matches, and new school Attitude. 1998 ushered in all the relentless hotshots and inconsistent storytelling and title changes almost every week on RAW
Sid was involved in 3 Wrestlemania main events 2 as a wrestler , Wrestlemanias 8 and 13 , and 1 as a bodyguard Wrestlemania 11 . Farooq's fall was mentioned on commentary by Jerry Lawler .
The sound of Linda McMahons babyboy Mick Foley hitting the floor during that edit about him going w/o surgery has me in tears lmaooo 😭 😂. What a legend.
Let me save u some time comment scroller: 25% of The comments: Vince likes big sweaty men 60% of the comments: pointing out the 2 mistakes made in the video 10% of the comments: I can predict the future Wrestlemainia 14 is next 5% Of the comments an actual original comment.
wow I just cannot believe it was the least bought mania along with that many seats still available. To me it was one of my all time favs especially since am huge taker fan and he Finally got the title after many years.
The Undertaker Wins.......... Wrestlemania 13-WWF Champion Wrestlemania 23- World Heavyweight Champion Wrestlemania 33- Jobs to Roman Reigns WWE's "DEADMAN"!
Ahmed Johnson definitely did NOT donate those shoulder pads to the Dallas Sportatorium after Hawk died. That venue was demolished 8 months before Hawk died and it had been closed for 5 years by that point. My school bus used to pass the boarded-up Sportatorium every day in the late 90s and I was always disappointed I'd never see a wrestling show there.
Come on. Nothing on the rumor that Sid shit himself during his match? Also, Sid NEEDS to go into the Hall of Fame next year with Steiner. It would be the best
Dragonzord571 Considering they're trying to ease Hulk Hogan back into the fold and Steiner is on record saying he wants to literally KILL The Hulkster. I think you'll still be waiting awhile for the Steiners to get in
I trained for the pro ranks under Gentleman Chris Adams and Tony (Ahmed Johnson,) was a part of WCCW/GWF with me as Moadib. (I also knew Skandor Ahkbar, and he trained him, but kind of glad he found Putski's school in Austin. Gave him what he needed. Sure wish I had. Skandor was a good teacher but past his prime when I knew him and really wasn't a good worker.) Tony was such a nice guy and should have done well in the WWE. I always wondered what happened and why it didn't work.
Doctor: Mr Foley, we're going to have to give you an epidural injection directly into your central nervous system due to the amount of pain you're in. Foley: Imma just put ice on it.
We'll never know what the plan was for Shawn at WM13...but what I do know is Shawn dropping the title to Bret was NOT the plan. Vince's right hand man Bruce Pritchard confirmed it.
3 additional facts… 1. The obvious - Bret Hart was supposed to defeat Shawn Michaels for the WWF Title. 2. The Undertaker was in a car accident the day before the show but still managed to compete. 3. Goldust and HHH very nearly came to blows backstage because Chyna was too rough with Marlena.
Even with the crappy buyrate, this was one of the most important shows in WWE's history because of Steve Austin's meteoric rise as a kick-ass face and the industry-changing direction of the product to something less cartoonish.
Another fun fact is that psycho Sid has that same record with the Royal Rumble pay-per-view as well he only wrestled twice at the Royal Rumble in 92 and 97 both was in the WWF title match
Am I the only one who constantly forgets when all these great matches happened? I watch these videos and go, "Oh yeah! I remember seeing that one!" But even now I couldnt tell you which wrestlemanias ive watched and which I havent.
As for when gates were inflated by giveaways, wouldn't there be 3,000 people with a "I got into WM13 for free" story knocking about? There's only so many radio phone-ins you can hold... and I'm NOT suggesting giveaways didn't happen, it's just funny how there's no collective surviving group of fans who have a story about getting free WM tickets.
WrestleMania 13 Hunter Hearst Helmsley vs Goldust This match would see Hunter and Goldust have a singles match with both of their escorts being present ringside, this would lead to the shocking debut of the 9th Wonder Of The World who would aid Hunter in his win over Goldust. Rocky Maivia vs Ahmed Johnson- WWF IC Title This match would see the unthinkable with Rocky being assisted by Ron Simmons/Nation Of Domination to retain his title but would actually join The Nation breaking his fathers heart. Vader vs Mankind-Falls Count Anywhere This would be a fallout between Vader/Foley with this resulting in Mankind choking out Vader with the Mandible Claw after failing to win the Tag Titles at Royal Rumble. The Undertaker vs Stone Cold This match would come about after failing to win the Number 1 Contenders match and seeking revenge would target The Undertaker requesting a match at WrestleMania. Bret Hart vs Shawn Michaels-WWF Title This would be the rematch at WrestleMania 13 with Hart finally turning heel and deciding to place Michaels into the SharpShooter and instead of celebrating his WWF Title win would try to break the back of HBK.
