Tone on tone only looks good now b/c it's on trend and we have accustomed ourselves to seeing it and appreciating it. When it wasn't trendy, it was an eyesore, so we have to keep evolving as fashion rules come and go. Trainers look visually pleasing with everything now, but in the early 2000s, a woman would be ousted among her peers for wearing trainers with trousers. Great video!
Very true! I remember when you wouldn’t be caught dead wearing sneakers with trousers or wearing a monotoned look with different variations of the color. It’s so interesting how things change. Just like the “worn” white sneaker look, when I was younger that was never a good look. 😄
Yesss, first and foremost, clothes protect us from the elements. I feel like people get so caught up in a “look”, we forget that. So many factors influence style choices - weather, culture, your profession, age, body type... on and on. “Pinch of salt.” Love it! Thank you!
Love your style Lydia. I’m sure I am a lot older than most of your fans but I’ve always loved fashion and still enjoy seeing what is current. Your classic tasteful style suits more mature ladies too and I certainly love the “oversized” look! The classic neutral colours will always look elegant.
I cannot tell you how refreshing it is to hear a young beautiful woman talking about how short and tight clothing doesn't suit people. Kim K are you listening??? Absolutely love these videos - you have something to teach us all, including more mature women like myself who will be 50 next year...I suddenly feel inspired by clothing again, all thanks to you! Bravo!!
You are my favourite influencer. Honestly you are so classy and genuinely care about the ins and out of fashion rather than just money. Have so much time for you x
People will always say that there are no rules in fashion but I do believe that if you want to look somehow stylish you should at least follow some guidelines, that is why I really enjoyed the content of this video! Could you do a video about how to choose the right pair of shoes for your outfit?
Yesss agreed! There are always exceptions but generally the rules work well! And yes noted, I agree about shoes. It's really difficult so will keep that in mind for a future video ! x
New subscriber to your channel. Your sense of style/fashion goes back to my mother’s teaching to me during my teenage to young adult woman. I’m 67yrs old with 3 daughters. Well done.
Makes a LOT of sense Lydia. I also think that can be the same in home styling. I hate decor that is too matchy matchy and more interesting if mixing things up a bit!! 💕💕💕
Great recommendations that are more subtle and sophisticated than most such "mistake lists." Very helpful. I agree with Ana C, would love a video on choosing shoes for the outfit.
Hi Lydia, you say, "this is only your opinion" but your opinion counts, hence you have so many subscribers, also you advise solutions to these fashion mistakes with such tact and diplomacy and yes this is an other first class video x
Good advice, especially regarding comfort and fit: nothing ruins more an outfit than being uncomfortable in what you are wearing! Colours are also very important: I like earth tones but they don't suit me so I wear them as the bottom part of the outfits (pants, skirts...)
When I was younger I use to love wearing tight clothing, but I always felt self conscious and uncomfortable. However now, I rather wear relaxed and flowy outfits over skin tight clothing. Brilliant video Lydia it was very helpful as always. I love and appreciate you always. Take care, stay safe and enjoy your weekend 🤗🌈💕.
Fashion, like art, is an individual choice. In both what is attractive to the eye are the basic design rules of balance, proportion, colour etc. 🥰 remember those and you can't go wrong.
Hi Lydia Great tips, I think you have mentioned before that picking two to three colours for your complete outfit really keeps it pulled together too. That was a fab tip and something I really hadn’t thought of before 💐
I’m absolutely obsessed with your videos, your content shows how much commitment you put in… greatly appreciate your advice, it has helped me sooo much ♥️♥️♥️
this was a big help, very on point. I am still learning how to pair 'dressy' with 'casual'. It's not what I was taught in the 90's! lol I would also love a video on pairing shoes. I find that final piece of coordinating difficult - maybe you could do a '10 must have basic footwear video?' for example, right now, I need something brown, but only have the light brown suede booties from Zara. Great work as always Lydia :)
Thank you so much for this video! Just this morning I was stuggeling to find something to match my new grey trousers and this was so helpfull! Going back into my closet again! 😉
You look so stunningly beautiful and elegant as always and in a few cases you make the "don'ts" look better than the counterpart "dos". You definitely always show why you're a fashion genius.
Haha thank you! I'm not saying that it's a bad colour at all! I think it can wash people's skin tone out and we gravitate to it maybe too often as a safety net!
Excellent tips! In the past couple of years, I’ve started to collect some designer shoes, belts, and bags. Would you do a video on how to mix designer pieces? xoxo
Enjoyed this, it's actually about giving you a bit more freedom to play with things in your wardrobe, rather than a rigid set of restrictive rules, which generally sends me screaming 😜.
Thank you Lydia, great advice as always. I agree with another lady’s comment about doing a video on how to chose the right pair of shoes for an outfit please?! 👠🥾👢👞👡🤔👍❤️ xx
I'm so happy to say that I rarely make any of these mistakes anyone 😎✌🏻 and this is a great reminder to not start again! Thanks Lydia. Love your videos
You looked so great and absolutely stylish in that photo I loved that look so that just shows how personal fashion is. If I saw you in that outfit on the street, I'd definitely think you are super stylish
Loved it, as I do all your videos. Had to laugh at #10 because although I live in Dallas, I’m a Geordie. And you know it is the Geordie lass’s article of faith to go out in freezing temps with the skimpiest outfits and no coat! They also make the mistake of too tight, and too short with too high a heel. 🤣
Hi Lydia, you are amazing! Thank you very for your lovely inspired outfits! I have a nice wool blazer from & Other Stories in sage green and I would appreciate if you propose outfits with a blazer in this colour. Thank you 🙂
I love wearing blazers, and would really love to expand my collection, however, where I live, its hot most of the time sometimes going up 40°C in summers 😞
I love your comment, " shivering in the corner " :) I enjoyed your video and I really enjoy your yes vs no looks to compare. Really brings the point home. I would love it if you could do a video on spring/summer easy breazy white dresses. x
I like juxtaposition too. One of my fave looks of all time is an open blazer with distressed denim. Classy at the top and a little rough and edgy on the bottom. Also, I feel like being too “matchy matchy” used to be a big faux pas but most people realize that the monochromatic or matching top and bottom is so in right now and has been for a while!
Most influencers don’t talk about knowing what colors look good on you. One of the best things I’ve ever done was having my colors done in the early 80s.. I was SO using the wrong colors. Now I see influencers wearing the wrong colors, and I move away from them, even if the colors are very fashionable.
Hello, I enjoy so much your videos, I find them so interesting and the way you mix basics and more "chics" items!!! I totaly agree your point of view of being confortable, I always look for being well dressed and warm 😏😉🤣🤣 Bises du sud de la France 🇨🇵😘❤
You mentioned in another video that wearing all black is a great way to look more polished. do you mean always wearing black and never trying other colours?
Hey Lydia , love your videos , One thing, what's wrong with a mini skirt and sandals? here in Miami we wear it all the time, you looked good too. Maybe we are doing it wrong :(?
I feel like i have to wear a lot less jewellery and accessories because i wear glasses, what are your thoughts on this. Have you got any tips for accessorising with glasses ? :)
