I feel like a slug everytime I watch your videos!! Lol! Your property is beautiful. Now i want to go buy another house with a big backyard so I can plant flowers and vegtables. My first house when my husband was alive we had almost had an acre of land and a huge vegtable garden which was his pride & joy. We would can at least 75 quarts of tomatoes every year plus various types of veggies that we either froze or canned. Now I plant one or two tomato plants in pots as i live in a townhome with a small patio. Your videos give me great joy when I see them. Take care of yourself and don't overdue.

Another Hi from Minnesota. We're zone 4b and first frost can come pretty early. This was a fun video to watch. It got me pondering about what I would plant if our growing season was longer. Right now it's been in the 90's with very high humidity - which makes it difficult to spend a lot of time in the garden. :0( I agree with Juliene. Take lots of breaks, Laura.

Julienne, I'm also in MN and have family in the school system so I hope Governor Walz, a former teacher, will keep schooling at home. My niece teaches kids with special needs so I know that can pose a challenge for them. My 67-year-old sister drives school bus and I worry about her increased exposure. I'm headed outside to plant my latest treasures as this is our first break in the heat (temporarily). Lowe's clearance plants for $1! They just need some love...And Bio-tone.

I sowed calendula seeds in October in a pot near my front door. They obligingly bloomed all winter, providing a cheerful pop of color when everything else was brown. I am in North Texas. We do get frosts. It was fine even when we had a few days in a row in the low 20s. Highly recommend!

Zone 7b here. I sowed marigolds at the end of July and the flowers lasted into early December. I remember looking at my marigolds while planning Christmas gifts 😄 Signet and French were the longest lasting. African are more frost sensitive so they perished in late October. Bachelors Buttons are actually recommended to be sown in fall for a robust display of blooms in spring, better than blooms from spring-sown seeds. Their seedlings are very cold tolerant and can survive winter without protection.

Tithonia is very tricky plant for me. This year only one made it - out of handful of seeds started twice in the greenhouse this spring. Actually 3 strong plants came out, but two of them were eaten by slugs. My info on packet is that it needs light to germinate, so you should place them on soil surface and don't cover them, also the light must be indirect, so the seeds are supposed to be shaded. But the germination rate is bad for me really. If yours inground will do better, I'll do it your way next year! Really curious about it! ☺️ Greetings from Prague!

Hi Laura! Thank you so much for your amazing channel, all your knowledge, and your infectious positive attitude! I've enjoyed casual flower gardening for years and you have taught me so much more this season, especially improved plant identification skills and a stronger botanical vocabulary -- you're the best! It has been such a joy this season getting more serious about gardening and I have you to thank for so many great pieces of advice and countless points of inspiration. My garden and I so appreciate it! :) I'm in zone 4B. I have some Heavenly Blue Morning Glories that I'm growing for the first time this season, from greenhouse plants. The vines are all looking amazing and have taken over the trellis. However, I only had a couple of blooms about a month ago and then nothing more since. I've now read that fertilizing them will stop the Morning Glories from blooming. I did fertilize mine earlier in the season but have since stopped adding it. Is there any chance of getting them to flower again? Thanks for any advice you may have and CONGRATS on your new baby! :)

Everything in my back yard is growing like gang busters. So friggen’ frustrating, but this is giving me hope that I can try again.

This type of morning Glory can be very aggressive,in the Midwest at least . I've spent the last 5 years trying to eradicate it from my yard. Spreads everywhere, strangles any plant it gets near. I DON'T recommend planting those

Really? I'm in SE Michigan and have had the worst luck trying to grow these. They seem so delicate. Several got eaten by deer or rabbits, a twig from a tree broke one and 2 simply died on me. I have 2 left standing and everytime the wind blows I fear they may be snapped in half. They are blooming beautiful now but again, so delicate!

Tithonia is easy to grow but I felt bad cutting the flowers because the butterflies loved them so much! However because they grow so tall they definitely need staking because it takes just one storm to knock them down
@emkn1479

I have these planted in SW Pennsylvania on a ridge and I find that the plants in more lean or difficult soil do well but don’t grow as tall as those in richer soil. So maybe they’ll thrive on neglect and stay tough and shorter 🤷‍♀️ Also the stems are very tough on all my plants. I made sure to pinch them when they were small seedlings so that they’d grow several stalks. Maybe that adds to their strength too. We get wind but nothing too wild. And I generally plant them against permanent structures, maybe that acts as a windbreak. All in all I love them 💚 their fuzzy, velvety stems are great.
@beverlygreene4948

I love them! Mine get really tall and the flowers are so beautiful...the color is so pure! Laura might want to stake them since she gets high winds. We don't get crazy winds here in Georgia 8a unless there is a hurricane coming by but sometimes we get a storm coming through and mine will get broken by the wind even in a shelter space!

With all the cutting flowers your growing you should open a cut flower stand for your neighbors once a year! You could make the cut flower arrangement and make a little extra money while making others with less of a green thumb happy! I started a small cut flower garden this year and planted over 700 cosmo seeds and zinnia seed and some sunflowers. I was not neat about it and threw it all in and covered and watered. it is in full cosmo blooms all different colors and zinnias are right behind them getting buds and sunflowers are making progress. So excited.

I’ve tried several new sunflowers from seeds this yes: Teddy Bear, Mexican Torch and Vanilla Ice. The Mexican Torch is such a brilliant orange! And the fluffy, yellow Teddy Bear blooms make me smile! Vanilla Ice I do like, but I think I’ll skip them next year. The petals don’t hold up to our winds and heat. I had over 20 Sun Queen volunteers sprout up in a raised bed, so I transplanted 13 of them into 1/2 gln pots full of aged compost and BAM!! Those went crazy. Today, they’re over 10 feet tall and blooms are debuting nicely!
