Comparison of 10 more distortion/fuzz/overdrive pedals. I'm running them through the normal channel of a 1970's Peavey Standard (master volume version). Which ones do you like the best?
Pedals included: Walrus Audio Iron Horse v2, Boss DS-1 (80s Black Label Made in Taiwan model), Boss OS-2, Danelectro FAB Tone, Danelectro T-Bone, Behringer Heavy Distortion, Behringer Ultra Metal, Behringer Overdrive/Distortion, Joyo Voodoo Octave Fuzz, and Joyo Splinter.
Signal chain in order: HH Strat (C# Standard) + Pedal + Peavey Standard + Homemade 1x12 cab (80s Celestion G12M-70 speaker) + Shure SM57 + Focusrite Scarlett Solo. Reverb is from the DAW.

Amazing tone and playing man! This channel is 🔥. I can't believe you captured this with just a single sm57. I have always struggled with getting a good tone with the sm57. If you don't mind me asking, how do you position it? Dust cap meets the cone? Also what is the distance of the mic from the cab? Thanks a lot!

Thanks! I had the mic set up dead center of the cone, right up against the grill (about 3-4 inches away from the actual speaker). One thing I’ve found helpful is EQ’ing the amp brighter than I typically would if I wasn’t recording. The extra treble translates into a really clear and tight recorded tone.

Is your Iron horse going into a clean channel also would you could you recommend any fuzz or od pedals that would go good with it for sludge metal?

Yeah, all the pedals here were going in to a clean amp. The Iron Horse is great on its own, but a Big Muff Pi would probably be a good one to pair with it.
