MAG was an experience like no other. Having 3 factions and 256 players made it such an insane battle. It’s a privilege to be able to look back at those memories and friends made.
@@TheCyanideSmoker snipers battles made that game. When it was you vs like 1 other dude for a whole game while a battle of 256 players raged on around you! We need a remaster!
I will never forgive Bungie for deleting the base game and first 3 DLCs of Destiny 2 that I spent $200 on. I will never buy anything from them again and will take every opportunity to alert new customers that anything they buy from Bungie may just be deleted on a whim.
Plus they wrongfully banned thousands of players and basically told you “well that sucks but our system says it’s right and we can’t give you any more or reason why”
MAG was my home for many years. I spent all of my time on Raven. I watched that game grow. I was there from the very beginning. I formed a clan there with a few hundred members. Though most have moved on, I still talk with a few, and I'm even attending the wedding of one of them this year. I met so many amazing people who are great team builders and leaders from that game. Domination may have been the highlight, but inquisition was one of my favorites, as well as acquisition. The game ran well for the hardware it was on, and my PS3 never gave out on me. It was such an amazing experience. And it was so good that it has ruined every single multiplayer experience since then. NOTHING compares to MAG. I've tried everything from PlanetSide to helldiver's. Absolutely nothing can touch MAG. The massive scale, the leadership roles, the huge fights over large swaths of territory. Battlefield hasn't even come close. It was a life changing experience that I'll forever be grateful for.
Do you remember the glitches on suppression (and other modes i think) where you could jump off an object into the enemy spawn? You could just stand behind them as they spawn in and have a whole firing squad killing them from behind
If it's not for sale anymore, it's free to play if you can find the file somewhere. Honestly delisting and shutting down single player games is just mind boggling and stupid.
imagine getting rid of books and movies after a couple years. We have the tech and the process to save previous works and yet we don’t apply that to videogames
Exactly. I own almost every Assassin's Creed except Mirage and Valhalla, and I still pirate them all to avoid the shitty DRM and their awful launcher. Ubisoft is definitely my least favourite publisher right now.
LittleBigPlanet 1 & 2 have such a special spot in my heart, countless hours I spent as a kid figuring out how to make simple contraptions in the first game, then becoming some crazy hi-tech genius when the systems of the 2nd game came out
MAG was one of my favorite games growing up… My brother and I literally played this for easily hundreds of hours, and when we heard about the servers shutting down, I still remember we played the whole day right up until they shut down the servers… Such amazing memories.
I bought "The Crew" 3 times over - PS4 physical copy, PS4 digital copy (with expansions) in a sale, and the PC version. I was looking forward to the day when I had a decent PC to play it on. It absolutely sickens me that Ubisoft just took away what I'd paid for, without even having the decency to drop a final patch to let it be played offline. Ubi will never see another cent of my money.
Makes you wonder how that's legal. People genuinely shouldn't support game publishers and developers that pander to investors and bad business practices
@@LordChuT I had to refresh the game few times, it showed me like past 8 wars :D but eventually I got to the ship and I can still play the original. Problem is that there are not many players to play with since Helldivers 2 dropped.
I wanted to get into D2 due to the last sales but with every next reading about all scammy, predatory and not consumer friendly shit they do I decided Im not going to give them my money for shit they will delete (vault) next week/month. Games are not jobs when I need to log in on a scheduled time and log off when it's necessary. I should be able to have a complete experience no matter if i am a new player or not.
vog was epic for me as it was my first ever raid i played thru i quit destiny when gary dissapointed and they blew up my gear in the tower killed cayde introduced EVERVERSE, i do miss my guns
@@alus992 I got back into destiny 2 last year. Basically a noob again and the community is not unforgiving for people who don’t know the raid mechanics. Not for me.
Yup i stopped playing when they removed 90% of the content i paid for. If they return those i will play again but if not, i'll never install destiny 2 again.
That lumber mill in Mag was the last choke point on Domination, so many players trying to push into one hallway, you could stand back and huck a grenade in and get like 10 kills per nade because everyone was just so stacked in there. It ended up being a deadlock where you couldn't push in and they couldn't push back because each team was just dumping explosives into that hallway to hold each other back
I didn’t even need to watch to know that thumbnail was M.A.G. 256 players on PS3 and ran like butter. Almost a decade and nobody has come close to the experience I had playing it. SVER for life!
I regret not trying the game out. I remember noticing it, but never tried it. Honestly I think its because I didn't spend a lot of time on the PS3, was MUCH more of a fan of the Xbox 360....
@@RigidRecords69 it was 150 players and the game was PC only in a time when PC gaming was not massively popular yet. at least not compared to console gaming of the time or even PC gaming today.
Companies would argue that when you buy a game, you're actually only buying a temporary license to play a digital IP, and that the publishers retain the right to retract that license at any time. I would argue that that isn't the prudence that the gaming industry was built on, and thus isn't the popular understanding of the consumer market, and that, as such; gaming licenses need to be extended ad infinitum, with no right for publishers to retract without significant advanced warning to consumers who purchased the license.
I understand games being a "license" in that you can't redistribute them. I understand games like MAG where they're online only and the servers shutting down rendering them unplayable. I've been PSN banned 5 times (cussing back at people who cuss me out in messages) and when you're PSN banned, you can't do ANYTHING besides play physical media. You can't update games. You can't access non-Sony applications like RU-vid or Netflix. You can't go onto the PSN Store to download games that you own but aren't on your console storage. You literally lose everything even without agreeing to terms of service (you never agree to Sony ToS to access third-party applications or to make purchases through the store). That's where my problems are with the nu-definition of licensing. If I ever get permabanned from my Playstation account (that I've had since Feb '08), I've got a plan. >make new account >buy all the games I owned digitally >download them onto my console storage >turn off internet connectivity to my console >call bank and rescind the charges; get my money back >Sony can't revoke my access to these games without my console pinging the internet to update the change Afterwards, we're gonna see how far I can kowabunga this shit if it goes to court.
Thats not entirely accurate, the law is regional, but generally if you buy a physical copy, you own the game, if you buy a digital copy, you have a licence to play which can be withdrawn for any reason. This is one of the reasons companies are trying to get rid of physical media, something im dead set against. It seems every company out there wants to strip everyone of the few rights we have left as consumers.
Honorable mentions: Driver San Francisco: delisted before people even got to know about it Deadpool: similar as DSF. Defiance: A super awesome MMO third person sci-fi looter shooter based on the TV series that shut down in 2021. I miss that game.
For real. That is something that should be illegal. It's a glorified license key that requires a server connection. 0% content on Disc. It's the exact problem I was expecting to start seeing when LIVE Service became a thing in 2006. We knew they would do it. Most games now on average only have 40% or less content on Disc and need a day 1 patch to access all of it.
@@SirMeowthius It is illegal to a degree. Ubisoft removed licenses from people's accounts and no longer allow them to launch the game. That's theft since we paid for the games and did not have to sign any legal documents during purchase.
MAG and Planetside 1 and 2 are the only games that offered the actual MMOFPS experience. It's surprising that Planetside 2 is still going 10 years+ after its launch, even though its playerbase is ever-shrinking.
What makes the Crew case even worse is that its not like all of the other games, where you techically have it but just cant play it because it requires servers that no longer exist. Ubisoft straight up removed Crew from players game lists, at least on Uplay (or whatever its called now). Which is just insane.
@@40sgoingonfit You don't buy software. You lease access to it. Tell us you just click EULAs without reading them without telling us you click EULAs without reading them.
@@AhzpayneGames were never originally software and they never should have evolved into software. There should be zero need for constant software updates, either the product is finished on release, or it's not ready for release.
The game that broke my heart was Chromehounds. Customisable tanklike mechs in vs scenarios with overall map control. I was disappointed when those servers were shut down.
One more game worth mentioning is Spec Ops: The Line - a fantastic experience, ahead of its time, that’s been permanently removed from online storefronts due to licensing issues.
I’ve got PT, still play it from time to time. I still remember the first time I played it, such a good experience. That part with the eye paintings and red lights took me way too long to figure out lol
Ahhh, Marvel Heroes, I played 200+ hours in it. I was waiting for its release as a huge Marvel Ultimate Alliance fan, and even though I didn't like its first version, they did a 2015 upgrade and I was totally into it.😍
There’s a small group of people working to bring marvel heroes back online, look it up there’s a working frame of the game available as of this year and they’re adding more features trying to restore the game
Because it's playable, the singleplayer missions at least. Some modders are working on fully restoring it. Many titles on this list are actively being worked on by modders to be playable again, the guy just didn't care to include that info into the vid. For example Marvel Heroes has seen massive progress, you can enter the map roam around but they still have ton of essential features to implement like enemies lol. People are working on a The Crew patch too.
@@VetriVade atleast battleborn had a campaign and a story in one package, overwatch just dropped you into the setting without context. To this day I still have no idea what the story is...
Infinity Blade… brooo that was my childhood!! I got everything in each game. Going on a flight or long road trip? Take out the phone, plug it into a charger and went ham!! Then stopped playing mobile for years since school got more intense. But as an adult now? I was like “oh yeah! Let’s get my favorite mobile game again!” Only to find out it’s been gone for years!! I’ll never forget absolutely swiping like a mad man on those games XD
Honorable mention to No One Lives Forever (and sequel). Technically they can still be played if you can find a disc or find them the not-so-legal-way but they're not up for sale digitally anywhere. And they are damn good games!!
I think it's fine to download the games on an abandonware site as the games are still stuck in legal limbo as to who own the games but since no one is profiting from them anymore, it's not like anyone is stealing from the devs or the publishers. Even PC Gamer linked to the abandonware site in one of their articles on how to get the games a few years ago.
Im both shocked and saddened that something like Gothem City Imposters wasn't in the list, was such a fun game that died out so long ago - wasnt the best game, but did a damn good job at keeping everyone entertained.
Because there's too many licences games been delisted sadly cause licences only last a short time. Xbox arcade had things like xmen arcade, Simpsons arcade etc. Same with older licensed like simpsons hit and run, lotr battle of middle earth etc
I think literally half the Battlefield games are worth mentioning. There are mods that bring back BF2 and BF2142, but you have to _own_ the game to play those (can't use cracked versions, even though the 2142 mod will crack your legit game to get around the DRM). Classic Battlefield is a completely different genre from the more modern titles, you literally can't get the same experience in any other game. Squad is closer to Battlefield 2 than what Battlefield 3 was.
Doubt it... there are hundreds of thousands of accounts which have P.T. in their library. And that's all you need to install it on any console. I even have it on my PS5 (no, its not playable sadly)
@@SuperDooperHax It was listed as " P.T." on the store, its referenced as P.T. literally everywhere, even when you Google. We all know it was a Silent Hill teaser and knows what P.T. stands for.
MaG Raven player here. MaG got me over PlanetSide 1 to PlanetSide 2. MAG was an Icarus and tried to fly to high but failed to deliver. But it was still fun for what it was. The first few years were rough large due to faction imbalance of the maps. This cost the game lots of players as their faction lacked defensible maps. But the leadership is where the game shined, setting other players objective was game changing for its time.
imagine it coming back with a free to play model where you could earn player and gun skins but could fast track with irl money.... game devs are missing out
Honorable mention of Defiance. I first played it on the ps3 and had so much fun with it. It was hard to cheese the group content solo and with all the overworld bosses being DESTROYED by the entire server, it’s something I haven’t experienced since. Even played the 2050 version (ps4) a little before the servers were shut down and it was nice to soak in a terraformed San Fran one final time. I still can’t bring myself to delete the game. Riparoni Defiance
A big one for me: PlayStation Home. I spent countless hours there and to this day, still one of my favorite gaming experiences. I was always a fan of virtual worlds, but nothing could match PlayStation Home. Me and friends from across the country hanging out in our clubhouse just having a good time because it was near impossible to see each other in real life.
Yeah PlayStation home was worse than these games because you actually had to send money for digital assets that they just stripped from you without regard. PlayStation home seems like there should have been a class action lawsuit.
Ahhh PlayStation home those were the days such a cool idea that just disappeared still remember that men in black area where you had your own mib suit and shades 😎
When I saw the title and the thumb nail for MAG I had to see if it was actually on the list...my father and I spent so much time in MAG. It was pretty ahead of its time with up to 256 players and squad based combat.
While I was never a big fan of it, CS:GO was a significant one, because Valve just replaced the game with Counter Strike 2 without asking. The reason this is particularly annoying is that, at the same time as releasing CS2, they dropped Mac support. So not only did they delete a game that was paid for by real money (before it became free to play), they also blocked the people who use Macs from playing the replacement.
Money. You want people to stop playing old games and buy new ones. But you get people like me that lose trust completely and not buy anything from you anymore, but i am in minority, not the target audience so this works with them
@@MrSkullMerchant exactly. I only started buying games in 2015 when i got income for the first time. And never sailed the seas again. Didn't need to. In 2024 its the first time when the greed directly leaves me without products i paid for.... Now i am really careful when i buy something, a lot of thinking needs to be done and check up before i decide. I am also not buying anything after lunch anymore, or i end up with products where Capcom decides to put DRM in after release... for some reason. And i don't want that.... so i wait a while to make sure the corporation doesn't pull stuff like this on me
One that was near and dear to my heart was Motor City Online, basically a Need For Speed game by EA that was a MMO of NFS where you started out with an old junker of a 57 Chevy, Ford, or a third option that I cant remeber, but the game had a full auction house, parts catalog, you could race ovals, circuit, street and drag, wether for money against computer opponents or race fellow players for money or pinkslips. My favorite part was the full catalog of parts, just to make some interesting combos and see what worked, want a 32 Ford with an Olds 455 in it? Go for it, a 69 Charger with a 351 Windsor? By all means! They have found a way to play the game offline, but its pretty much just a circuit race with a small handful of cars to choose from.
Well speaking of a need for speed game. Need for Speed world was a pretty awesome game that combined all the maps but they shut it down maybe half a decade after launch, if even
I remember being so wowed by the first Infinity Blade. I know its basically just a series of quick-time events but still the jump in tech from other mobile games and even DS and PSP games from just a few years earlier was incredible, and this wasn't even on dedicated gaming hardware.
I was selling phones for a few years over that time period. The comparison to just a few months before Infinity Blade is insane. It'd be like going from the SNES straight to the PSP.
There has never been a mobile game like infinity blade before or since. It was like, the only actual videogame present on mobile. I miss it so much. The art style, the combat, the story, the voice acting, was all perfect. It’s tragic how underrated it is. Everyone has heard of angry birds but so few know about infinity blade it seems.
One game series that I wish could be brought back, is the Mercenaries series, and prior to the series ending, a third game was hinted at, taking place in Cuba, but the game was never finished, and the DLCs for Mercs2: WIF isn't playable, and hasn't been since 2008
I can make this worse. You can't be online on Mercenaries 2 or the game crashes trying to connect to the servers. You can still play both games offline just fine, so they don't qualify for the list. (PS2 and 3 experience only)
I could've hated the whole video, but the fact that you guys have MAG on this list means I would've still liked and subscribed (if I wasn't already) I miss that game so much. It never gets enough love, glad you guys mentioned it here.
@@sortaseriousgaming4090 Valor main but Raven was my secondary. Pissed me off no one else could pull of what MAG could do. I had hopes for BF 2042 but they crapped the bed with that one
@@acewolfgang276 That they did. All the guys that made BF great left and created Embark. They're the guys behind The Finals and Arc Raiders now. I had hoped BF could pull it off but should've known better. Maybe one day Sony will grow a set and throw a bunch of money at making MAG2. I can only imagine how good it could be now.
7:11 SOCOM ending still hurts me to this day. And Sony did it to themselves by allowing the servers to be overrun by cheaters. Such a shame because the games were amazing.
I miss the game Defiance so much. The countless hours I've put into this game... Great memories... And I've met great people in this game. I hope they'll do something like Hellgate London and bring this game back as a singleplayer only title
Battleborn has some kind of offline mod that was released so you can play the campaign and solo play. So there's that on PC if you have the hankering for a playthrough
Don't forget about all the great games we can't play now due to soundtrack rights expiring and the games being to old to justify renewing them RIP Alpha Protocol - a classic from the 360 era
Damn man, seeing PT again is such a throwback. I remember this one woman I was friends with years ago still had it installed on her PS4, and she streamed it for me. That was a hell of a good time.
Damn. I didn’t know the crew was taken down. I played the hell out of the crew 1 (played the wild run edition) and I’m sad to know it’s gone. One of my favorite arcade racing games.
Dust 514 Set in the same universe Eve Online, this game kicked ass. One of the best online shooters ever. You could call in actual orbital strikes from actual satellites being controlled by actual Eve Online players. The interaction with Eve players was extremely limited, but it was mind blowing that such a thing was even possible. Good tight mechanics. Lots of fun game modes. It was an all around great game. (The monetization scheme was kinda whack, but not too egregious.) And now it's completely unplayable. There was supposed to be a successor that was being worked on for a long time, but it's been radio silent for many years now.
I didn't know the crew was shut down, that's really sad. I know it was kinda primitive compared to the two games that came after but I really enjoyed it. My friends and I spent an entire summer jumping between it and a couple other games.
if companies like to remove support for a full price game and people had just bought it, they should give a full refund to them (ie if bought on a launcher owned by said company because they can see when it was bought)
Well... Bad news for you tho: Crew came out in 2014. By 2012 we already lost the not owning anything push back as people rather wanted to play Far Cry 3/Battlefield 3 than boycotting any "game" that was sold under the premise of "We and you both can cancel any service and any access to the product at any time".
It always irks me when a company says that they shut the severs down for cost reasons. It shouldn't be a huge amount of work to update the game to allow for custom servers. They could even have their cake and eat it in this regard: Whilst the game is being actively supported, don't allow custom servers, once the game reaches EoL and you are preparing to shut your servers down, release a patch which allows for users to create their own servers to host games on. That will keep online service games going indefinitely with no ongoing cost for the developers. It really is insanely cheap and mean that they won't fund a relatively small amount of dev time to change the game to allow custom servers.
PT is too important of a demo for it to be lost forever, its popularity created an entirely new horror sub-genre. Eventually someone will figure out either how to easily emulate it on PS4 or it’ll end up becoming a lockable bonus level in a future game.
I miss playing Defiance 2013 I played it quite a bit liked it but I hated how they removed a lot of content with the remastered version and gave you a chance to get some of the items from the original
Auto Assault and Tabula Rasa, both NC Soft published MMOs from the 00s that were trying something different. Auto Assault was a vehicular combat MMO with some really interesting mechanics and Tabula Rasa was a third person shooter MMO. I played the betas for both and had so much fun, especially with Auto Assault. Unfortunately being a kid I couldn't afford the game and the monthly fee, and the games both shut down within a couple years. There's been some work on a private server for Tabula Rasa but it's still not functional, and Auto Assault is a lost cause because none of the server files were stored locally. Sucks.
Theres the odd few games aswel like avatar frontiers of pandora for example that need an internet connection to install off the disc.. beware of these games as they too will be useless in the future when servers are gone
For those who don’t know, Ross Scott is also the voice and main creator behind the old machinima series “Freeman’s mind”. Fantastic creator worth supporting to this day whether it’s the conservation effort or just for his work.
It’s crazy. Honestly All these games that have to be connected to internet. Sometimes it’s not a huge deal with multiplayer titles ig. But single player option games should not be like this.
To fair that's not their fault, licensing is a major problem. Imagine pay ten of millions for a game that released over 15 years ago that doesn't sell anymore. Your just losing money at that point
@@sircartier2723 Licensing should be a non-issue, if the game in question isn't sold any more. If it's a multiplayer game with no single-player component, then sure, no one expects the official servers to be online forever. But for single-player games, there's no excuse to why they shouldn't be playable for anyone who's ever bought a copy.
this feels like the real version of seeing your crush marry someone and having kids with that person, there's nothing we can do, unless, someone can boot a private server or a legally good replica of those games.
Mag was insane, I remember people getting together to do clan battles. That wasn’t even a feature but people found a way. So much fun especially escalation.
Idk if it made the list, but The Culling. It was very early in the battle royale genre back in like 2017, and it focused on mainly melee based combat over guns. It was super fun! I really miss playing it, it’ll likely never come back though considering they tried to copy PUBG in the “sequel.”
It was a gem of a game, but the developers kept changing things for the worse until they lost the majority of their player base. Company litterally shooting themselves in the foot repeatedly and not listening to the players.
Mine is Delta Force: BHD. Already almost impossible getting a physical copy but ever since the new DF game was announced they took BHD off all online stores and steam
@@fallu2nah not really. It's called "Delta Force: Hawk Ops" and its gonna be made by tencent/timi (the same people that made COD mobile). Its supposed to be a f2p hero shooter thats not very true to the series as i see it, but they are remastering the campaign from the original and giving it its proper due which should be nice.
@@barbusbogdan7 yea about that, it took me less than a minute to find that game on the high seas. unfortunately can't tell where as yt will just delete my comment. ill try to write it in segments
Spore. I miss the days when I play the Spore series. There are a lot of new-gen games that allow the players to play as creatures such as Evolved, Maneater, etc... but they don't have exciting customization systems like the Spore series. I wish some new dev got this idea and made an Open World monster sims like Spore but it contains both actions, survival, and gores like the ecosystem of Zergus from SC2: Heart of Swarm. Players start as a new lifeform from space, Hunt some local wildlife, Devour their essences and biomasses to evolve, Metamorphosis and evolve into a stronger creature, Digging or building some nest to shatter instead of building the cabinets, Hunt down the local creatures until the whole species is extinct and destroy the ecosystem or Build some symbiotic relationship with other creatures and help each other to survive the hostile environment and ecosystem, Battling with invaded species, Unlock the mysteries, Defeat boss predators with allies or solo, etc....
@gameranx Actually you can't replay the 1.0 story of FFXIV. It was literally burned to the ground, razed so that the 2.0 world and engine could come to be what it is today. When asked if they would ever make it available again Yoshi P sighed, looked down, and said no. It was so bad, even he doesn't want to try and bring it up again.
My favorite game that shut down is Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. It was a csgo like game that that took place in the GitS universe. It was really fun and I was good at it, better at it than csgo. I miss that game so much
This is why i value physical games of course without the servers ties, we have ownership without being worried it'll be taken away from us, and honestly yes there should be a place you can buy either where everyone can be satisfied on their preferred media type.
The problem with physical games these days is they're really dependent on server ties too. Sure you can play it, but it'll be the day 0 unpatched super buggy version. 😕
@@OneColdMonkey there’s a website online where you can check if a game is playable in disc. If you rely on this and only buy those ones, you actually only pay for games that deserve it
