Human Nature/Family of Blood will be up there at the top of my list, Tenant was absolutely superb in it as a 'non-Doctor' character but also showing that he can be vengeful when someone really crossed him.

For me it was more about the acting of the family themselves. That 'something's very not right about them.' vibe. Good choice.

Heaven Sent is absolutely the best episode since Doctor Who returned. Peter Capaldi shows us why he may be the best Actor to have been The Doctor, stunning TV.

As someone who fell off massively in the Capaldi era- I think that Heaven Sent is a good episode for the actor- but it just lacks that special sauce for what makes Doctor Who so appealing, to me personally. I tried watching it again after finding out how acclaimed it was, and I could barely finish it. All the episodes/stories in this list have that sauce- with regards to watchability- that makes them perfect introductions to this show, which Heaven Sent lacks imo

It's too bad the Capaldi series was fouled with the Woke-Dviersy Mob's ticking of their diversity 'boxes" with the abomination of a female Master, "Missy" (refuse to watch any episode with this Woke abomination trashing it). That goes for the last two "Doctors" the Woke creatures, that ugly, screeching, manic female "Doctor" (work-check!) and now that laughable gay (woke-check!), black (woke-check!) 14th doctor. They busy taking their woke wrecking ball to this fine series, just like Disney has done to Star Wars and their "woke" Snow White (utter disaster, but hey, the woke crowd doesn't seem to have the chops, the imagination or talent to create their own narratives, and go on the rampage destroying other established, venerable narratives to get "their licks in" ...despicable!)

Midnight. That episode is easily overlooked and to me had the most impact out of all of them. Veeeeery simple, packed into an almost bottle episode, and it kills it. Plus the Doctor faces something he never did or will understand and looses. Fires of Pompei deserves a mention, while the Journey's end and Stolen Earth are a fantastic sendoff to an era. Turn left is awesome (yes I'm a huge fan of series 4), but Vincent deserves to be in the top 10 for the sake of that scene in the end alone.

I was looking for a comment like this. Midnight is so underrated and overlooked as you said, and I can't understand why. It's probably the most terrifying and shocking episode of NuWho and it's also the best example that the Doctor isn't invencible, that the universe is a really vast and creepy place full of great dangers and that the human nature by itself is, most of the time, what causes our own destruction. It is so simple, yet so meaningful and at the same time mysterious.

Really funny you mention the day of the doctor, because I found myself thinking about it quite recently and remembering how good it was. Not (only) for the great chemistry of 10th and 11th, the fan service and flood of cameos, the production vallue, all that... for me, it's because of what it rooted for the doctor : the fact that each new regeneration is a way to process and cope with guilt. John Hurt was his criminal self that the doctor himself tried to forgot out of shame ; Eccleston was a warrior, lonely and ruthless after the time war ; tennant was the Hero, that tried to embody greatness, to be loved again and make up for his crimes... to the point of turning time lord victorious, doing everything it takes to be the winner, the one that saves the day ; Smith was the runaway, the one who tried to forget about all his dirty deeds by being childish and sweet, hiding a much darker side... i always remember the conflict between 10 ans 11 : 10 is able to count every victim of the time war, while 11 forgot this number, and 10 is horrified of that. It's also why it is so great that it is the episode introducing Capaldi as 12, because much later Moffat made sense of this old face the doctor chose : it's the face of the only person he saved from Pompei, to always remember after all this coping with guilt, that he has to remain a Doctor : someone who SAVES people, and moves onward, instead of lingering on the past. 12 is the doctor of forgiveness : he forgives people because it's the only thing that allows history to move on (for example in his great speech during the Zygon invasion/inversion... very reminescent of Hannah Arendt's theories about rememberance and forgiveness) but also who forgave to himself. People say Capaldi is the grumpy old man but he is so much more than that, and 12 brings a coherence to the whole arc of the doctor in NuWho, that's why he is my favorite.

The bit that got me in "Silence in the Library" wasn't River's death or Miss Evangelista's echo or the shadows…. It was Donna, hearing River talking about how well she knows the Doctor in his future, asking River why she doesn't know Donna. Donna, who wanted to travel with the Doctor forever. The incredible compassion in River's expression when she realizes who Donna is (which Donna does *not* miss!) turns it into one of the best bits of ominous foreshadowing I've ever seen.

One interesting thing I liked about River's introduction is, at first, it kind of feels like we, as an audience, are supposed to know her. The way she was introduced, with her illuminating her helmet, then saying her catchphrase, felt like it was meant to make the audience go, "OMG, she's back!" Except, none of us knew who she was, at the time, almost as if her introduction was placed in the wrong order. Like, how someone would react to Yana, or Missy, revealing they're the Master, if they didn't know who the master was.

A criterion that people who make these lists don't consider sufficiently is replay value. Within this criterion is also the issue of favorite characters -- the characters we can't seem to get enough of. The 10 episodes listed here are good, some very good. But I don't usually seek them out for a later peek, let alone a proper re-watch. This could be true for a lot of Who fans. I would put any scene with Strax, Jenny Flint and Madam Vastra ahead of most of these episodes. Minute for minute, they are delightful. Matt Smith's Doctor is also very watchable -- I return to him often. Catherine Tate's work is also worth rewatching. And the aforementioned Capt. Jack Barrowman. Most recently rewatched by a lot of us is the excellent piece of nonsense music in the the Church on Ruby Road. The Goblin Song has been re-watched by millions of us. I realize these are not "episodes" per se, but they are favorited by some of the most loyal viewers. 2-part big episodes are impressive, but not loved, in my opinion, if love means attachment and affection.

World Enough and Time/ The Doctor Falls - (S10 E11/12) Even better if Bill and Capaldi had another season (it would build up the arc and make the death of Bill sadder) 6. Extremis/The Pyramid at the End of The World, The Lie of the Land (S10 E6/7/8) Explanations : Lots of Capaldi Episodes because Capaldi is the best Doctor. Series 6 Is one of my favourite series. I don't get why people hate it - The Girl Who Waited, The Impossible Astronaut, Day of the Moon, A Good Man Goes To War, The Doctor's Wife - All Brilliant Episode. I also understand the hate - with shambolic episodes like 'The Wedding of River Song', 'The Curse of the Black Spot' and 'Closing Time'. Series 4 also features a lot of times for understandable reasons. I am not a fan of the Eccleston Era but the best one is either 'The End of the World', 'The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances'.'Bad Wolf/The Parting of The Ways'. Series 7 gets a lot of hate. I understand it with episodes like 'The Bells of Saint John (SPOONHEADS?'),'The Crimson Horror' and 'Nightmare in Silver'. But The Trilogy of the 'Name of The Doctor,Day of the Doctor and The Time of the Doctor is The BEST TRILOGY. Extremis 3 parter was good, Master 3-parter was alright, Donna Noble Three-Parter was amazing but NOTHING IN COMPARISON to these three. Now Let's Talk About Series 9 (The Best Series). We got Missy and Clara and Daleks in the first two-parter, Creepy Ghosts in the second two-parter, a shockingly bad two-parter with a Viking and a Highwaywoman, Then We Get the best Zygon Story and A Questionable but Ambitious Found Footage Episode, A Beautfial Send-Off to Clara and Arguably the Best Episode After that. Hell Bent was a fitting ending and I couldn't have done it better.

Something that always sticks with me with "The Girl Who Waited" is the argument between the Doctor and Rory, because the Doctor had a counter argument; Rory chastises that the Doctor doesn't consult a history book to make sure he avoids stuff like an outbreak, but we know; if the Doctor knows bad things are going to happen, then they *have* to happen we saw it in "The Waters of Mars." and "Angels in Manhatten." where foreknowledge of tragedy caused major part of the drama, if the Doctor consulted history books, then he knows about travesties he cannot prevent. But he doesn't use it, because he knew in that moment that Rory needed to win this argument, so he gave a less solid reason, so Rory could win the argument.

OK, saying that "These are the 10 best new Who" and then immediately saying, "But we've included one from each Doctor" is equal parts cheat and crap. Here are the top 10 episodes, plus top special: Angels Take Manhattan (David), Blink (David), The Eleventh Hour (Matt), The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances (Chris), Hell Bound/Heaven Sent (Peter), Vincent and the Doctor (Matt), Turn Left (David), Silence in the Library (David), Listen (Peter), 50th Anniversary (Matt/David), The Doctor's Wife (David). Looking at this it is clear that the reason for this subterfuge is that of the top 10 (11) David has 6, Matt has 3, Peter has 2 and Chris 1. This list does no one any favors, especially those looking for the best episodes to start watching the show.

I'm a newcomer, watched 3 or 4 of WhoCulture videos, and here are my guesses before watching this: -Even if two parters are merged, Heaven Sent which might be number 1 is separated from Face the Raven and Hell Bent. There is a jab at Hell Bent when Heaven Sent comes up -River Song episode in top 3 -No Clara episode except The Day Of The Doctor -Please don't put Blink at number 1, I love it, it's great and terrifying, and it's the highest rated episode in IMDb but please don't.

The Impossible Planet / The Satan pit two parter is my personal favourite. Aside from Blink or any with the weeping angels, it's, in my opinion, the scariest episode we've had in a hot minute. It's got the perfect balance of lovecraftian horror, the typical sci-fi elements but also it's one that really stands out for me that humanises all the characters the best, not just the doctor and the companion in rose but the side characters. It's also imo the one that truly makes you think about how YOU as a viewer would react and act in that situation. Plus the introduction of the ood. Although the line "If I believe in one thing...I believe in her" may be corny as hell. The entire episode is mostly practical. Aside from the black hole and the beast and the glowing eyes of the ood. Everything is practical and it's also just a pretty episode. To say it's in the same season as Love&monsters and a season before the lazarus experiment. It's a testament to how good dr who can be when it's done mostly practical. Anyway, imma shut up rambling. The Impossible planet / The Satan pit imo is top 5 episodes of all time for Dr Who.

I never really rated The Girl who Waited. It commits the sin of repeating recently treaded paths that other episodes have been criticised for and it’s one of the episodes where you know exactly where it’s going from the moment the ‘twist’ was revealed. Just like in The Empire of Death you knew no one was going to stay dead, in TGWW you knew the Doctor was never going to save old Amy.

You actually like Waters of Mars? Jesus. Why? How? It's ONE good "oh wait, the Time Lord Victorious is bad" revelation stuck to a totally mediocre sci-fi story. And you seriously gave space to it and that dreck two-parter in the library but not Midnight or Turn Left? Feh.

I gave up with Dr Who after about 4 episodes of s5 as it got too bewildering, strange and all over the place. This means I'm not familiar with a lot on this list but do agree that Blink is one of the best episodes. Those weeping angels definitely gave me the chills. Another reason why I gave up with the show was when they messed these creatures up.
@timetrnr7380

I like a lot of this, and ten spots isn't a lot with how much Who we have gotten. However, I do have to have a few disagreements. Blink is easily the most overrated episode in the show's history, and the Weeping Angels, interesting as they are, are equally overrated. Not only are half the episodes on this list better than Blink, but there are a litany of other episodes that are better as well. Namely, Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit (easily Tennant's best two-part story despite being in his worst season), Bad Wolf/Parting of the Ways (still the best series finale) and most especially Dalek (IMO, the best episode of Doctor Who ever written, but definitely Top 10). Not only is Dalek the story that makes the Daleks the most horrifying they have ever been, but it's the one that solidifies for the new 2005 audience that the Doctor will always choose mercy over violence if it can be done. It also has one of the best dynamics between a Doctor and his companion of any NuWho episode. It's a bit criminal to see both Midnight and Vincent and the Doctor as honorable mentions considering they should also probably fall on the top 10. I would have swapped Forest of the Dead for Midnight, personally (as much as I love River Song) and the Haunting of Villa Diodati for Vincent. I know you have a disclaimer at the beginning that you're putting episodes from each NuWho Doctor up there to show the breadth of the show, but we all know that only means you're including a Whittaker episode so that you don't seem biased. It's ok to admit that Chibnall and his staff had no idea what they were doing with the character. It's not Jodie's fault that none of her episodes could stand up to most of what came before, and while Villa Diodati is certainly my favorite Whittaker story, it doesn't even land on my top 20 Doctor Who episodes.

honestly only ep that consistently comes to my mind as one of the best is oxygen. I know it's underrated but it's near flawless. Big impact on the doctor the season bill and nardole, tightly packed message with claustrophobic horror good comedy that doesnt take away from the episode but rather gives you a false sense of security before the episode punches you in the gut etc you get the point. only problem I have is that the resolution to the side story of the rebellion was a little too simple. also how is the family of blood not even in honourable mentions, this is a crime.
