I never thought that 11 actually forgot, I thought he was just trying to end the conversation and 10 didn't take the hint.

It was comedy gold seeing 10 and 11 banter. The war doctor helped out too as the straight man firing occasional zingers.

I could watch a whole series of 10 and 11 playing off each other. They were a modern equivalent of 2 and 3.

10:42 The reason the guy was scrambling over rubble just to get killed by daleks is because if he didn't, the shot was gone. He was a stuntman who was meant to fall from a height when his junior pulled the support from the ledge he was running on. The junior pulled it too early, the stuntman had nothing to break his fall and he broke his foot. Knowing he was off to hospital anyway the only thing he could do was to scramble over the rubble (on his broken foot) to where he would have been if the stunt had worked properly so he could be "killed" on camera as planned.

Having watched the show since the early 70’s I can honestly say that the 50th was one of the very best stories ever. A true gift to fans of all ages 💙💙

For me, John Hurt will always be the best Doctor. He walked in, got the character immediately, played him like he had been doing the role of his life, and left a lasting impression.

I adored John Hurt. I'm so glad he was cast as the war doctor. It's a shame his funny line was cut because it cracked me up and it fit his character so well

A version of Hurt's line made it into the novelization. "I turned and hammered on the door. ‘You can’t lock me up with these two!’ I heard myself yelling, ‘I’ll take the beheading straight away-tell them I’m ready now, I’ll have the whole thing off!’ "

The craziest thing was that it happened. I remember that Jenna Coleman was the only actor under contract for the 50th. That everyone else was happy to come back but Moffat didn’t know that they would be at first. The story was originally very different and about the Doctor being forgotten by everyone and only remembered by Clara. I’m glad we got the episode we did but still an interesting idea. One that may have inspired redacted?

Loved the hidden Easter Egg, with the brief clip of Peter Cushing as "Dr. Who", standing next to a young Bernard Cribbins, better known years later as Wilfred Mott.

14 My (sudden) headcanon is that since as it turned out the Doctor _didn't_ destroy Gallifrey and as a result none of the children died -- or at least not nearly as many -- Eleven subconsciously knew that and so let it go. While Ten didn't know that. Because Eleven was the latest incarnation involved ("all Thirteen!" and Curator cameos notwithstanding) so he's the only one who remembers not destroying Gallifrey, even though from a strictly linear perspective for him it hadn't not happened yet. #WibblyWobblyTimeyWimey

Love the list, but if there is one thing missing from the store of Who footage, it has to be something revealed in A Return to Devil's End. In this documentary detailing a lot of the cast and crew of Classic Who returning visit to Aldbourne in Wiltshire, the location where much of The Daemons was filmed. During some of the banter between the cast, it was revealed that Nicholas Courtney (his inclusion on this list brought this to mind), Richard Fanklin and John Levene, (the officers UNIT) would frequently socialize together and call each other by character name. I think it would be fair to say that every Whovian on the planet would give anything to be able to see and hear Courtney bark at Levene, "Benton, another round, at the double," while sitting in some cosy English pub somewhere.

absolutely love watching these videos. I'm a huge fan of the show, and the day of the doctor is one of my favorite nuwho episodes. I especially love the face 11 makes when they compare screwdrivers. And how 10 looks suitably chastened. I mean honestly, as much as I love the tenth doctors screwdriver, eleven's is definitely the best. (:

I can't really complain about John Hurt as the War Doctor, but I feel like it was a missed opportunity to give Paul McGann more screen time.

I think introducing 11 first followed by 10 followed by the war doctor made a lot of sense since we got to see the chemistry between 10 and 11 - imo the best part of multi doctor stories is always the banter between the ", replacements"

9:46 Well, no. The War Doctor didn't shed any of the guilt of the Time War. It's specifically mentioned that he'll forget what happened, so when he regenerates into 9, he still thinks he destroyed Gallifrey and the Daleks with the moment. And he is not disabused of this notion until 11 experiences the scenario for himself.

Ten years ago... Wow. And I watch it (at least) a couple of times a year. Makes me feel old. (Of course remembering I was a young Californian living in England, just starting school, watching Doctor Who with William Hartnell...) As always thank you so very much for the videos. But Peter Cushing, best known as Grand Moff Tarkin? You're not wrong, but you're young. Don't forget: He killed Dracula with a pair of candle stick holders, fought Daleks, caused Christopher Lee to break his collar bone, has been to the Earth's core, killed more vampires than Buffy, has reanimated several corpses and outsmarted Professor Moriarity. 😉

I've long thought that some fans of Doctor Who have underplayed the writing brilliance of "The Day of the Doctor" (50th anniversary) episode in terms of it being as good as it could possibly be, not just as an anniversary episode containing all the hallmarks of what most fans love about many of the program's anniversary episodes (i.e. being a multidoctor story), but also in relation to the quality of it for the kind of story it is AND the decision of making it be about the character and defining character traits and decisions/moments that defined the character in the past, and the time, and moving forward which I feel was the best possible set of writing decisions made and enacted for that 50th anniversary celebration episode. To that end, several fellow long time fans of the show I know have grown to further love and admire the episode as time as time has gone on, as while they either really like or loved the episode upon its release they were not in immedoate awe of it as I was on that literal 'day' of the Doctor (being 23rd November 2013). The writing was on point, and while many viewers and critics criticized some other Doctor Who episodes for arguably being convoluted and playing with time too much, this episode is (in my opinion) the most "timey wimey" episode of all of the on screen Doctor Who episodes released until (and including) that point yet it doesn't feel that it be is as it's delivery was not convoluted or confusing. I don't think that that element and the success of its implementation were not appreciated by the vast majority of viewers at the time (myself absolutely included) yet that combined with such perspectives of viewing / thinking about time and travelling in time being principal subjects of the show throughout its history (and of its main character) were key to not making this the best anniversay episode of the show to date (and one of the best episodes in the show's history). In my opinion, one could not ask for or expect a better anniversary episode of the show than what Steven Moffat and his teams delivered (with the exception of the eventual cutting of John Hurt's ad libbed tower of London), including as the balance of familiar as well as new elements was perfect for the occasion which (as writer Steven Moffatt has frequently referred to) was not only celebrating the history of the show but was just as importantly also about providing impetus for the show going forward ("for the next 50 years"). My only downside (which is a preference rather than something thar should have occurred differently) is that barely any new music was composed for / used in the episode, with music tracks from the show's previous 8 years being used. However, the existing music that was present in the episode were used brilliantly (appearing in most moments of the episode) with many of them feeling as fresh as (and in a couple of cases I feel "fresher" and better than) their original respective appearances in earlier episodes, which is a testament to not only the compisitional quality/appropriateness of the music itself but also (and in this episode's case 'more importantly') the quality of the episode's editing (the pacing of which was on point through the episode). I truly love this episode, and it warms my heart to see that general fan opinion of it has increased over time (which is an impressive feet given its already rapturous reception by many fans and critics at the time).

Highly anticipated, at least for me, is a understatement

10 years is nothing... looking behind and not before. Matt Smith does come out as a delightful person. David Tennant does too. Love them both.

Also the coral Tardis in the Day of the Doctor, was different as it’s walls were on a different angle and the path leading to the console is flat when previously it was on a slow rise

3:22 Penney Sound, however, was pretty much in favor of that idea, with "School Reunion" seeing the Doctor tell Sarah Jane that he's regenerated "half a dozen times since we last met." You might think that means since 4 (Hand of Fear), but actually she did meet the FIFTH Doctor in "The Five Doctors," the 20th anniversary special, meaning 5->6->7->8->W->9->10.

This was thoroughly enjoyable. I love the Day of the Doctor, have a huge A2 poster in the hall, awesome ❤❤

Coming up on ten years of me being a fan, as I caught the week long celebration leading up to the Day of the Doctor. Yes, I only had less than a week to get to know the show (I still missed a lot) before the 50th. Still thought the ending was amazing, just not as much as I'm sure life long fans did.

I wonder if the use of off the shelf toys for the Dalek minitures was a deliberate Homage as I believe in certain Dalek crowd scenes, this is what Classic Who did as well. Also an intersting thing is that we could have got something very different because, when the time came to write the script not only had they yet to contract David Tennant for the episode but Matt Smith's contract had expired the previous episode, so while Moffat was dealing with the negotiations he had to come up with a worst case scenario where the only Actor contracted to the project was Jenna Coleman, apparently Moffat's plan was that stepping into his timestream had eliminated the Doctor from all of Time and space, and Clara was left trying to remember him with a bunch of Fictional Doctors (presumably film or TV she was watching in the episode) played by "Very Famous People", presumably the idea would be that she remembers the Doctor back into existance, maybe even as a new form. I think it's for the best that we got what we did but it's curious what this backup special could've looked like (I suspect the Very Famous People would've been popular Dr. Who fancasts who are simply too famous to be cast to the show, both due to their schedules being too full, and the BBC not being able to afford them) though I doubt the portion of the fandom that dislike Clara would've been too impressed if she had helmed the 50th Anniversery celibration. It is interesting to think about what the title could've been "Rememberance of the Doctor" perhaps.

The novelisation can be read from start to finish, or in chapter order (the chapters are out of order in the book) and it makes sense both ways. There is also no 9th chapter, possibly a reference to the fact that the 9th Doctor is not in it.

John Hurt was a delight. He came to Gallifrey One the year before he died. He was so wonderful to the fans. He's definitely a science fiction fan that got a number of wonderful SF roles. And yes, he couldn't say yes fast enough to the chance to play the 8th doctor. He gave us fans some wonderful memories.

One that you didn't have which surprises me a bit.. There was a version of the script by Moffat that didn't have ANY Doctors in it, and just Clara. I wonder how the heck that would have worked.

Ah well Dr Who is timeless, sort of. Great list.

At least Paul McGann got to be involved! Because, while Ncuti Gatwa is touted as the 15th Doctor, a lot of montages miss the 8th Doctor out! Paul McGann is Canon! Technically, John Hurt isn't. That's why he doesn't have a number (technically, the 9th) just a designation: The War Doctor! 🤔

I love how Moffat was able to include the cut Peter Cushing reference in the novelization. Not only that, but he may be making a reference to Rouge One by having Kate mention that Cushing appeared in movies long after his passing, which she believes might have been something the Doctor was involved in.

Although I understand the necessity of copyright laws "which must be aggressively defended", there are times like this when they are not only over the top, but actually defeat the object. Still would love to know why they didn't use the 8th Doctor when the 9th wasn't available, instead of creating the War Doctor. Probably a good reason, but have never heard it.

I actually think 09 not being here makes Day Of The Doctor even better. Because if you return to Rose, you would see how 09 acts like how he JUST got done regenerating. And what happens to War Doctor at the end? He Regenerates into 09. Nice little detail. I'm surprised that was a last minute addition.

I missed both Sir john hurt and Christopher versions of the war doctor, in the 50 th anniversary movie and series 1 respectfully.I just hope no 9 comes back and fulfil his desriny of being one of the greatest actor to play The Doctor.

Since I live in the U.S. we don't always get Dr.Who shows especially the middle years. PBS runs the early years but we rarely get the 4th to the 8th Dr's. Is there a chronological list of all the episodes?
