When you think of an NBA player’s physique, you think of a tall chiseled body and broad shoulders. But, this video is about the complete opposite type of players - the ones who liked donuts and fast food - and who ran out of breath after two trips down the court.

It's always amazing that Shaq could play that well in LA at that weight. Of course, if I saw that dude coming at me at that weight, I would just get the hell outta the way.

Well that’s the average human. Guys like Olajuwon and Kareem are better centers. They actually had an arsenal of moves that could beat any dude no matter what size they were. Shaq purely used just his size to get an edge on his opponents.

@@zachbalentt416 Shaq was skillful too. Yes, he didn't have as many moves as Hakeem or Kareem, but he definitely had a solid post game. He had a nice hook shot and was actually a pretty good passer out of the post. Anyone who thinks he just bulldozed over people and that's it, didn't actually watch shaq play and just saw a couple of highlight reels.

That’s the way this stuff goes. As players get beyond 7 foot tall the weight range they can be while still maintaining the necessary mobility in todays NBA without being to slight of frame to be pushed around. Not to mention all the wear and tear on their body. Right now Porzingis seems to be right at the line of what is doable with size without the weight causing major issues against specific players.

If Shaq had managed his weight better with a proper diet he could’ve potentially been the GOAT. Clearly he was still dominating with all that excess weight on the Lakers, yes. But he just kept pushing the envelope and it ruined his joints and by extension the longevity of what his career could’ve been. He could’ve dominated alongside Wade and won 2 or 3 more Championships in Miami if he took better care of himself. For those who don’t know… look at how he played and could move in Orlando when he was a rookie and playing at an ideal weight… his coordination, balance and speed for a man of his size was truly on another level. If he trained the way Giannis trains and optimized lean muscle mass over just accumulating mass in general (muscle & fat)… man… people just have no idea…. He could’ve been the gold standard of athletic potential over LeBron James in my opinion.

@@whitewhale9012 Wilt is imho a legitimate C candidate for me, because he was a real standout ... It is hard to compare different types of player, let alone compare Shaq and Jokic who even play the same position - but are outstanding player but with a total different game. If you rate passing more, you prefer Jokic, for physicality dominance below the basket Shaq is much better. But in the end i would still give it to MJ because he had that huge impact for the game and the league, besides beeing a hell of player.

Oliver Miller was a great role player the year the Suns went to the finals. He was a nice shotblocker, could move nicely for an overweighted player. He wasn't like Pat Ewing, Hakeem or David Robinson but was a really decent player. And then he got fat... It's sad cause he a had a nice potential, I think he could have been around 10-15pts, around 7-8 rebounds per game and mostly 2-3 blocks per game but I guess he liked to eat most than the game.

Hi from Bulgaria. I remember Priest playing in the Bulgarian league for Lukoil Academic some 20 years ago, that team was unbeatable back then, locally of course, they were good but still weaker than top quality european teams. Lauderdale's was huge and dwarfed every other player I've seen him play with and against. Couldn't run, couldn't jump (didn't need to), still, he was scoring a decent amount of points. I suppose if he was a better player, he'd been playing in a better league or a team. They gave him a bulgatian citizenahip, but I don't think he ever played for the national team.

I've just always been fascinated by dudes with big physiques. I always feel bad for dudes who gain too much and can't cut. It's not as easy as it sounds to lose weight, especially depending on your body chemistry. I was very underweight as a kid, and then when I got put on Estrogen for an endocrine disorder, I felt better, but I bulked up to 250 pounds at 5'9", took years to get myself down to about 215Ibs. where I am now. a lot of it had to do with taking care of mental health, exercising more, and diversifying my diet. That being said, I'm obviously not an athlete, so it amazes me when I see guys bulk up, or lose weight in a relatively short amount of time.

This is Shaq's biggest talent: despite his weight, he can move so fast while suffering below-average amount of injury for a NBA big man. When Yao, who is very very talented in his own way, puts on enough weight to become almost an equal match-up against Shaq, he quickly suffers injuries that cut his career much shorter. The other guys on this list wouldn't even have enough mobility for a competitive NBA career.
