@@jojoplaysmusic sorry, imo is In the nightside eclipse the best black metal album Then (always by my personal opinion) the are: de mysteriis, det som engang var, transilvanian hunger and nemesis divina
I love that you put Withstand the Fall of Time in here, but I'm dearly missing that one glorious riff that pops up in the middle and at the very end, it may be my favorite BM riff ever :D But a great video nonetheless!
Probably the best pure black riff of all time is Transilvanian hunger, is raw, evil, dark, sound like a forest and snow. is fast like war and desolation.
Two things: hell yeah two emperor riffs, and secondly - where did you pick up that version of jesu dod? Love that piece but I play it very differently and never seen or really heard it played like that
My mom has a bunch of stuff like that lmao. While looking for this I found a bunch of coats and stuff like that that looked super goth and/or black metal-esque. Don't know where my mom got that taste, her favorite group is Creedence.
Hey JoJo! I think you're really cool and thanks to that video I bought a guitar and want to get back to black metal after 20 years. could you tell me 1 thing (or maybe any of your viewers) Where do you get this percussion from ? Do you arrange it yourself in Ableton ? Or are there any places I can download percussion arrangements or whole specific songs? Thank you and sorry for boomer questions
nice playing, and a cool selection. However I have to point out, the second Riff of Transylvanian Hunger is wrong, the ending chords. listen closely. keep them coming!
Yeah I noticed that, this video is over a year old. Looking back I noticed the riffs I was getting wrong in details and such. So I try to make videos nowadays in which I can include them and play them properly. Thanks anyways!
Yes, that’s why I included them in 2 videos after this one. Here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wEuP08CFtPU.html And here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JAoB2uhnL7Y.html
These are incredible. Going to make a playlist with these. How long have you been playing guitar? I started a month ago and am learning the fade to black solo
Hey buddy, can you do “ in the still of a northern full moon” ( the greatest black metal song eva) and Strid “End of life” the originators of BSBM! Nice work
I'll admit I'm still kinda new to the black metal if I'm correct real early venom and Celtic frost were maybe black metal if I'm wrong please correct me I saw them in 82-83 then early Sodom then early deicide which I know isn't black metal but I love glen Benton and the Hoffman brothers were a good combo dark funeral I've been getting into alot lately those guys are flat out scary looking but as a drummer I like the chords and riffs they pull off to be honest Jojo I just like watching you jam you make it look so easy like your bored lol I love the black cloak too
Venom, early Sodom, and Celtic Frost are part of the "First Wave of Black Metal" along with Bathory, Sarcofago, Hellhammer, Mercyful Fate, early Kreator, Master's Hammer and others The Norwegian scene is considered the "Second Wave of Black Metal"
@@jojoplaysmusic Jojo no conosco mucho del genero pero me gustan mucho los riffs. Exelente video y el detalle que le agregaste al riff de Burzum suena genial. Saludos.
Beautiful video and beautiful riffs. I have a question for guitarists, I’m try to learn tremolo picking but I success doing it only in the bottom part of the guitar, where is the second or third pickup. It’s impossible for me to go up, near the first pickup or between them cause when I do tremolo the strings “bounce” too much. But play all a song like this gives me a very bad wrist position that cause my pain every time. What do you think that I do wrong?
Tremolo is literally just picking really fast bro, all you gotta do is keep the same wrist and hand position as you have on the low strings. Since you're playing metal, it's just inevitable you're gonna be better at hitting the low notes since you spend more time with it, but that's what it boils down to, just do more of the same on the other strings until it's comfortable all the way across the board.
Great list but for Marduk I think you could have chosen a better one, Wolves, those of the sunlight, on darkned wings, panzer division marduk, of hells fire would have been more iconic IMHO. Love throne of the rats I just think is not as iconic as the other mentioned ones.
The Jesu Död by Burzum riff you played sounded wrong somehow? Maybe it's just a bad recording on the album? I'm not a guitarist though so maybe i'm totally wrong.
Just relistened to Jesu Död. I think it IS because of the bad recording. I can totally hear how one could interpret it that way, so I wouldn’t blame you. I’m also guessing that Varg didn’t have his guitar that well tuned (or if it even had the tuning stability to stay tuned through the whole recording).
Guys, add some Greek black metal to your Playlist. Some Rotting Christ : "Non serviam", "Fgmenth thy gift", "Wolfera the Jackal", "Pyr Threonte", "Lex Talionis", "666", "Daimonon Vrossis", "In Yumen/Xibalba", "Dub Sak Ta Ke", "Kata ton Daimona Eautoy". They have a great discography, since the end of the 80's!
For how much speed picking black metal audaciously relies upon, the experience is extremely slow in terms of riff and overall song brutality compared to the more aggressive modern metal community that utilizes more rhythm and guitar techniques. It's like flooring the gas pedal in a Honda with a spoiler next to an alien space ship that uses gravity for momentum. You played guitar very well though.
I’m disappointed that “Dies Irae” was the Bathory riff chosen. “Necromansy” is a far superior riff: hell, Kristian liked it enough to rip it off wholesale for his song “war” 😂
