Agent Kallus from Rebels wasn’t the most important defector, but he had a great redemption arc. He and the Empire wiped out most of the Lasat people. When Zeb, a Lasat Rebel, helped Agent Kallus survive after the two crashed on an icy moon, he started to have his doubts about the Empire. He would then become a Rebel spy, and eventually defect from the Empire.

I'd like to make an a argument that Organa and Mothma aren't defectors since they were against Palpatine before the empire was created. How can they defect if they were never loyal in the first place?

Hello Generation Tech: I suspect that Bale Organa had a far greater connection to the Jedi that previously known. During the Clone's siege of the Jedi Temple, Bale was trying to help a young Padawan escape. But when the clone troopers killed him, Bale was visibly distraught. I hav after postulated that the young Padawan was a possible relative: son or nephew of Bale Organa. That is why the boy's death affected him so much.

Sabine Wren defected and helped liberate an entire planet from the Empire... before the battle of yavin.... thus showing the galaxy that the empire could be defeated.

I like the list, however I'd say that there is an argument that Bail Organa did not defect from the Empire as it seems more that he never really joined the Empire in the first place. There can be no doubt that he did not agree/vote in favor of the formation of the Empire. In fact, if remembered, Bail Organa was a candidate for Chancellor of the Republic Senate so there is no doubt he did not even vote for Palpatine to that office. As pointed out, Bail Organa was just playing the part of loyal Imperial Senator, but really, he never, not from Order 66 before or after, actually agreed to being a part of the Empire.

The one thing that irritated me storywise in Rogue One was how the Rebel Council spat out the words "Imperial Pilot, Imperial Scientist" and "Criminal" in regards to Bohdi, Galen Erso, and Jyn (respectively). They were all at the very least Imperial citizens, some I imagine were Imperial Senators, and all of them would've been regarded as criminals in the eyes of the Empire. I wish a character in that room had made that connection it would've made that scene more thoughtful.

Could Vader be classed as a defector? After all he did have a rather big influence on the fall of the Empire.

My friend defected to the British in 1989. Broke my heart. I heard some guys in Donegal tracked him down. Soon after I left too, in 1992, but I didn’t defect, and I’m not sure if I’m angry or sad about my friends betrayal. Sometimes I wonder if he was even with us in the beginning.

I do hate that Kal’buir(papa kal in Mando’a) was not in the Disney canon for Star Wars. The republic commando story is still one of my favorites.

Honestly, han solo is more of a deserter rather than a defector. By episode 4 he already spent years as a smuggler for criminal organizations after leaving the imperial army, which no doubt has a high turnover due to grueling conditions. He was roped into working for the rebellion due to mission creep and an attack on conscience made him stay. Im not saying he didn't made huge contributions, he not only rescued liea who is one of the pillars of the alliance but ensured the deathstar plans reached yavin in time. He did leave for personal gain however and was clearly disinterested in the rebellion at first.

How much damage did Imperial defectors cause on the Empire and who caused the most damage

I know you often mention that getting rid of the venator class seems like a waste of resources. I often wonder since so many venators were built swiftly during the clone wars that they might be the equivalent of ww2 liberty ships and escort carriers, cheap, constructed quickly and only expected to fill the gap for a short time of emergency. While the star destroyers have tactical deficiencies and suffer from sith inspired doctrine in design and use, they were built in a time where detail and finish were not secondary to just getting into the fight, and like most heavy imperial equipment and installations over engineered. While the troopers and ties were expendable, the star destroyers, death star, etc were built to impress, intimidate, and last. The venator class was utilitarian and this was why they were so quickly replaced. While the replacement was not necessarily the right choice, the new procurement was very necessary

If hardly call some of them defectors. Leia, Bail Organa, Rex, Han Solo we're never onboard with the empire in the first place. Han and Rex are more deserters, Bail and Leia spies pretty much from that beginning

Alan, when you mentioned the clones are slave soldiers, what is going to happen if they did what the Mamluks did? You know, doing basically what led to the rise of the Mamluk Sultanates like the ones based in Cairo and Delhi. And between the Mamluks and the Janissaries, which one the clone troopers are more similar with?

If im not wrong the second death star was destroyed by the millenium falcon after Wedge destroyed the shield generator of the main reactor, so the X-Wing only destroyed 1 death star and asissted on the other

I think you missed the two biggest imperial defecotrs. Palpatine and Tarkin. What? don't look at me like that, there is no way they made so many monumentally stupid decisions if they weren't secretly routing for the rebels!

Another honorable mention I'd like to add are Iden Versio and Del Meeko. Without Inferno Squad becoming a Rebel SpecOps team, Naboo may have fallen to Operation Cinder and the Battle of Jakku would have been much worse for the Alliance.

I don't think Bail Organa and his family count as defectors. He saw first hand the fall of the republic and the Jedi. And knew what really happened. They're more like double agents than people that defected from a faction they actually held ground and beliefs in.

If i had to defect from the empire i would just get assigned to some unimportant backwater world to work there instead thats my defecting because if the empire did fall i could eaiserly just lose the uniform and fall into civilian life and when the empire won I could just keep working on the planet till death came for me.

You never read X-wing series on your opinion of Wedge. He was promoted to General and commanded scale tactical air and ground units. Plus he knew enough about his weaknesses and his strengths to work militarily behind the scenes

You forgot Lando Calrisian! He helped Wedge destroy the second Death Star. Also he helped Luke, and his Sister rescue Han. Also Chewbacca was an expert pilot, and navigator at the controls of the Falcon while Han manned the falcon’s weapons that saved Luke in the battle of Yavin.

Greatest defector from the Expanded Universe was Kyle Katarn with his help to get the Death Star plans in Dark Forces series of games.

To me calling most of these defectors isn’t really the appropriate term because most of them weren’t with the empire to begin with, even if they were grandfathered into imperial ranks from the republic transition

Hey there Allen, so I loved the video . However I will respectfully disagree on 1 name and don't hate for this but han solo to me doesn't really fit this category. When I think of defector, I think of a spy feeding information, committing acts of sabatoge, someone who is already inbeded in the system or even assassination . His situation similar to cassian in that he and andor both went to the imperial academy and served in the imperial army but solo for the most part just wanted to get off planet and become an ace pilot. If he had the choice I'm sure he'd stow away on a garbage transport. Plus after he hit the stars he was pretty much a career criminal from then on. I'm sure without obi wan, Luke and a certain princess he'd still be smuggling and dodging bounty hunters. Then you have andor who yes he pretty much stole that piece of imperial tech to get back at the empire and a big pile of credits for his troubles we see time and time again his ability to adapt and with his experience as a criminal and as a former imperial soldier to infiltrate a military instalation and escape a super-max prison that for all intents and purposes had no chance of breaking out
