Then you don't get the point. Soldier Boy were never meant to be liked. You suppose to hate him. Soldier Boy is a criticism of american faux patriotism after 9/11
I agree that hughie made more then one mistake lately but teleporting starlight wasnt one. If she would have confronted soldierboy then she would have definetly died. Yes hughie does it because he wants to protect and makes it weird by saying he cant be the weak one but anny doesnt really try to not end up in a dangerous situations
@@normaaliihminen722 my problem with this drama its not the way the characters react, More like the "lecture" viewers and critiques has about It, its perfectly understandable how both giving their context reacts the way they reacted, But painting one as "wrong" or having issues and the other being perfectly normal its just so superficial, both are messed up and carry a lot of trauma and fears, ofc they Will not be perfectly empathetic every time and not "toxic" (how i hate that damn word lately, its used to finish artificially any conversation or debate about a character or a theme just by labelling with that word)
To me the big problem with season 3 is that Hughie was right, he was just given this stupid motive. I'm sorry but it makes no sense to confront Homelander the way Starlight did, the guy literally spells it out that if she ruins his public image, he's gonna go nuts and commit genocide or something, which makes the ending even worse to me, because Homelander isn't even that strong. Maeve basicly beat him, and Butcher was able to stand a chance. I get that they got suped up, but they really just held their own against Vought's most valuable asset, created to be THE STRONGEST supe.
@@joaquimgianini1234 Well Homelander was weakened and freightend as well as traumatized and wanted to defend Ryan. On top of that comes that Homelander probably still had feelings for Maeve while she simply wanted to kill him finally. Regarding him being so Powerful: I think what really make him so Strong is his flying ability. He is very fast and can go everywhere he wants and if he would genocide then they could do nothing agaimst him flying to different spots lasering them and flying to another
Just naked people in the background doing naked people stuff....kinda overhyped actually. I was more invested in the Soldier Boy, Butcher and Homelander fight.
The bottom line was that Homelander seemed genuinely worried at the end of the episode. It's the first time we've seen him showing battle damage. Butcher might have to inject an entire tube of the temp V to take him out if he kills Soldier Boy first.
I think that homelander had shown battle damage before. Not physically but after the finally of se2. First two episodes of this season he seemed broken and powerless
@@jonwifebeaterjones6389 yeah, the whole stormfront situation hit him on the inside. He met someone who told him what he wants to hear, then they show him the video of the plane and he has to shut up and take it because he wants the image of perfection because he believes himself perfect. This time, he was almost killed for the first time in his life and he's having a hard time dealing with the fear of his own mortality. It'll be fun to see how he handles the revelation that he can lose a physical fight.
Hughie not teleporting Starlight = Starlight dead. If anything, Starlight is the toxic one, not accepting that sometimes she also needs help, that she can't shoulder everything by herself. If anything, she is showing behaviour that is commonly described as "toxic masculinity" here. Was one of my biggest gripes with this season. Yes, Hughie could have handled this a bit better, communicated things better. And yes, he did enjoy getting supe'd up a bit too much sometimes. But overall, he really did grow as a person. While in reverse, Starlight expects Hughie do to the exact same thing she doesn't want herself: Sit back, don't get into danger, let others handle the dangerous stuff.
Exactly. Some of these female characters are written as flawless. While most, if not all male characters are portrayed as flawed. I know Starlight had a difficult start at life and made some mistakes, but she was never really 'wrong'. Kripke is a wokey, although he handled it well. Until season 3 that is... His wokeness is showing some cracks. I can still watch this show tho.
This idea that Hughie is "toxic", he has PTSD suffering the loss of his girlfriend due to A train and is trying to save Annie. This whole video is off on a lot of it's points.
The point is though, this is his hangup. He could not have saved his girlfriend (instantly obliterated from out of nowhere) so the guilt is his own problem, not Annies. Also, if you have to play the hero card to feel better then maybe don't jump to dating a superhero. He is bringing his baggage to the relationship which will probably poison the it (which is why it is called 'toxic').
@@patrickblind998 No, the point is that Annie isn't as strong as she thinks she is. Soldierboy or Homelander can take her out easily. Hughie doesn't want that to happen. But I suppose you'd happily let your girlfriend get her arms and legs ripped off, yes?
@@alcoholandfun243 Having seen friends and strangers heads popped, lasered into pieces, ripped to shreds and so many other horrors... Annie wants to live or die by her code. Hughie trying to play the hero is his wish and he is forcing it on her even though she has asked him not to. Plus, I don't think at this point that Hughie is her boyfriend anymore so it's a moot point. He has failed her too many times, lied to her too many times and all she wants is one person who she can trust... which is clearly not Hughie.
What does Annie think she can achieve? Does she think she can keep herself and Hughie safe from Homelander by becoming a slave to Homelander's empire? And Hughie was right to take Annnie out of there or else she could have been hit by Soldier Boy's mega blast.
I’m worried that starlight might get killed by the end of this season. She just painted a huge target on her back by exposing vought, homelander and soldier boy. I think it was an incredibly stupid ass decision to make that live stream announcement at the end. MM and her have their hearts in the right place but you gotta come up with an actual plan before you make drastic decisions like she did
@@jeremyroberts8822 True. If she has given up she should have just quit The Seven and quietly gone into retirement to stay off HL and SB's radars. Only thing saving her and MM from HL is he might see it as a trap set by Butcher to anger and lure him into an ambush.
Man fr, Annie's been trying her very best to get killed this season. Like dude, HL and SB are the absolute Gigachad supe royalty, a bazillion times more powerful than her. And all she's done is piss them off with her self-righteous "YoU MuRderErRR!!!" bs, when she doesn't know shit. @@jeremyroberts8822 She made a move. She was sick & tired of all the planning & slow burn bullshit. I get why she just said fuck it, i'm gonna do this and let what happen, happen.
@@jeremyroberts8822 You can call it stupid but I will call it heroic. Starlight is the only one we know who really tries her best to the right thing and wants to be a real hero. Yes the things she does are dangerous but also the only moves she can do.
Really? Toxic masculinity metaphor? Hughie clearly feels guilt over Robin's death and beats himself for not saving her, despite her death not being his fault. Also if he hadn't teleported Annie she would have definitely either died or be severely injured, like the other supes that were hit by Soldier Boy's ray.
I know, right? Apparently men want to protect their partners is "toxic masculinity." Well, if that's the case, then I guess this video is an exhibition of toxic femininity (i.e. constantly lecturing men about how their base nature is bad and they need to do better, while never taking any responsibility or even acknowledging that women have similar traits).

@@kenbrovost9653 basically agree with what you say, although if we want to be strict about it, Hughie does dispaly some toxicity after he killed a guard and enjoying it, but it just show that people are not saint. Also this "toxic masculinity" bs is getting pretty out of hand in this show, 1 both male and female can be toxic, men will more likely use force while women use mind manipulation, the show does show some toxic female, but almost all male are toxic af, which is pandering af. 2 When they mention SB didn't storm Omaha beach, that should make any sane person wonder, where is the representation of the men (and mostly white men) that did it? Solderboy boy started herogasm! That's right folks, solderboy. It was soldierboy all along. The OG soldierboy started it all! Yes, that's right, soldierboy. Started. Herogasm. Damn, you guys repeat yourselves a ridiculous amount to pad out the video.
Eh, I wouldn't say that Starlight in the comics is a trope..just that she isn't really used. Starlight in the show, I would argue, is the reverse of what you said. She clearly needs help, and outright refuses to let anyone help her including Hughie. To the point where she is not listening to him at all.

No, she didn't, she saw Homelander fly away while Hughie, butch and soldier boy was walking away without much of a scratch which made realize that she doesn't have to be afraid of Homelander anymore
Kinda funny how this video tries to portray Hughie saving Starlight as a form of toxic masculinity but then immediately plays into the common trope of women hurting men for laughs or empowerment. If their roles were reversed and Hughie blasted away starlight and he casually blasted her away with his powers he would be portrayed as a monster, for starlight though she's a woman so her hurting hughie is totally cool.
Him teleporting her was fine. Him wanting to save her was forgivable. But him suggesting that he would "stop" her from leaving was not good. He done bad.

I’m actually glad the show didn’t go with the Black Noir twist!! Not only would HomeLander’s development be completely ruined, But that make him the primary villain of the show & I don’t believe that would work!!
honeslty, I can't think of a single change from comic to show, where I didn't like the show better. the comic is immature and vulgar, where the show actually puts a point and reason behind its sex and violence. the characters are way more believable and fleshed out. their stories have arcs and meanings. and sorry, but having a homeland clone to stop homelander is like putting out fire with fire. how would you stop black noir if he went a-wall? its just a ridiculous dumb plot twist

I don’t know who wrote this script but you’re way off if you’re thinking Annie could’ve handled that situation on her own. Also, enough with the using of toxic masculinity to describe any male who’s protective of a woman, it’s getting old. Oh and please learn how to use “suffice it to say” properly. The boys tv show definitely a winner in my book of course they’ll never get away with what the comics did but for what the tv show is available to do still shocking in this day and age
Can you imagine if Marvel had balls this big to actually produce and make this content mainstream? They make everything so PG it’s juvenile. Hawkeye felt like it would have been better as Saturday morning cartoon. Not a live action Tv Show.
Lol. Starlight definitely could not “handle the problem herself”. Soldier Boy was gonna blow and if she got in the way, she would have been ashes. Huwe saved her skinny behind.
One thing I am not understanding from the comment section is that Hugie saved Annie from Soldier Boy because she would have lost in a fight. This doesn't make sense because Annie wasn't trying to fight Soldier Boy, she was trying to bring everyone to safety. She just wanted to get people out of the house is all. Maybe she would have tried to get the twins out then Hugie would have directly saved her, but she could have easily started distractions. Cause the place to go up in smoke so people left. Etc.
The Black Panther reference, before Black Panther did that, Before Batman, the original arc type for what became the American Idea of a superhero The Phantom was a title passed from father to son in a way to make the Phantom appear to be Mortal.

Wanting to protect and be the hero to people you care about is not toxic masculinity it's love. Starlight grew up wanting to be the hero and save the world on a regular basis. Hughie just wants to save her and keep her safe. Kinda like how he couldn't protect his first girlfriend. My message to Hughie is next time she wants to walk into a building about to get blown up in a way that will probably kill her, just let her go.
I mean... I basically agree with you, except that when Hughie teleported Annie, he ruined the chance that she might at least evacuate all the people out of the building. Yeah, he saved her, and that's great, but she was there to save all the people and she couldn't do that because of his decision. He was in there so he could get the innocents out of the way in the first place, and he knew he only had few minutes, but instead of rushing, he first decided to pick a fight with A-Train, and then only save his girlfriend, screw the dozens of innocent poeple still inside.
@@Eris_Norregard yeah but he doesn't want to be everyone's hero, just hers. Not saying that's right, but he knew she would square off with Homelander if he showed up. She's not one to back down from a fight.
@@05dturner True, but it also makes sense that she would be pissed at him for that. One key difference between the show and the comics is that Herogasm was borderline pornography in the comics whereas in the show they toned that down by a fuck ton
I´ve maybe seen an different episode but in the End it is clear that Huey DID save Starlight, because after we see the whole Thing blow up we also see that many Sups are either injured or dead.
While this was a great episode the herogasm angle is way overhyped. I thought the whole orgy scenes where rather tame compared to other TV shows I seen. (P-Valley most recently comes to mind) But great marketing I guess. All that aside it was still a great episode. The Homelander fight scenes alone were well worth the time.
Victor Newman & Victoria Newman are longtime characters on the "Young & the Restless". Just saying. Since i was a small kid & my grandma watched it, & theyre still on the show. Victor Newman is powerful businessman who owns huge companies, & Vicky is his daughter, who takes over.... So its kinda funny.
R rated? Naw this was straight up NC17 with the gore, amount of sex, full nudity, adult language, etc. So to say this was an r rated show would be an understatement.
I’m bi and usually agree with most (actual not pretend outrage) feminist ideas, I felt like they handled the show pretty well. They make fun of the hyper sexualization and they don’t sacrifice a woman’s dignity for it, pretty much ever. It’s the only show I can watch with my far right wing coworkers and we both actually can get along with the message being given when you can tell they’re parodying our real world heavily. They do a good job being so self aware they can’t rly call it “woke” the way it’s fed to them. It’s sparked some interesting conversations that kinda helped me reel some people in that were leaning into the weird online radicalization
4:40 "Solider Boy is like Black Panther in that its a legacy title that gets passed without the public's knowledge." Don't Black Panthers have a public ceremony when a new person becomes Black Panther? Because anyone who becomes Black Panther becomes King/Queen of Wakanda, so the the Black Panther's legacy title does get passed down WITH the public knowledge. It'd be more fitting if you said Batman or Spider-Man since their identity is secret.
I'd say Robin or Flash since there's been multiple. OG Spiderman and Batman haven't passed on their mantles [Bruce and Peter are still active even though others have adopted/borrowed their mantles, the OG's are still THE Batman and THE Spiderman. They aren't really legacy mantles
I hate that phrase/ term Toxic masculinity. because it's stupid. it's a term that was recently coined to imply that men are toxic just for being men. but I digress. if anybody's been keeping up with watching the show. it's clear the reason that Huey is willing to cross the line and take this experimental temporary compound v. to get powers is because of his love for starlight. in season 1 Huey was basically helpless in saving his girlfriend Robin who was killed by A train. in the beginning of season 1. Huey has also expressed to starlight about how helpless he is to save her. How helpless he feels. this is even more amplified in the episode. we're homelander was in there with him and starlight he was right in their faces. basically mocking Huey and telling him about how on TV him and starlight are a couple. in the public eye. it's clear that Huey is desperate to cross the line to not be weak and helpless anymore especially when it comes to protecting the ones he loves. he feels like he failed to protect his girlfriend Robin and he doesn't want to fail to protect Starlight. he wants to be able to save her. because he couldn't save his girlfriend and this is someone else that he loves.
Actually, from a purely linguistic analysis, "toxic masculinity" implies that masculinity itself is NOT toxic, because if masculinity were toxic, then "toxic masculinity" would be a pleonasm, so what "toxic masculinity" actually refers to is masculinity that is toxic, not that masculinity itself is toxic. Toxic is a modifier of the noun masculinity.
@@slj3332 how does that not make sense? Toxic Masculinity refers to masculinity that is toxic. It's like saying "Yellow Water." Yellow is a descriptor of the color of the water, because not all water is yellow.
A good example of toxic masculinity I think is that “real men” don’t need help. Real men don’t go to the doctor. Warped Ideas of what it means to be a man, that’s a toxic kind of masculinity.
I must be desensitized or something, because I keep hearing about how crazy/disgusting/horrific and such this episode was, but it just seemed like normal fun The Boys content lol. They honestly could have gone so much further.
This chick must have no relationships. Bro if you leave and make it so you never be together again over one fight that's really bad then you don't deserve to be happy. Yes you have to draw a line so it doesn't go past mistakes but growing as people and building a future together is the whole point of a relationship. Your never gonna keep someone if leaving is how you approach these things cause with humans it's always gonna happen. Everyone I know that's been married most Thier life says one thing when I ask for advice. It's not about how little or big the fight is or what it's about that defines a relationship it's how you handle the aftermath that defines the relationship. So the fact you think at this point the relationship between starlight and our favorite clumsy hero is over shows you don't know much about what your talking about.

Come on we need to face reality here, there’s one reason and one reason only they change the event from the comic books… budget. If the production team had open $ coffers, the event would’ve had been a lot closer to the comics, Ennis is a genius and if this so called director had half of Ennis brains, he wouldn’t been using the boys and would be directing an original creation
Not really. Walk about came out in 1972 and had ful frontal male and female nudity as still was rated PG. Doctor Hollywood only got a PG 13 for a topless scene. Porky's was raunchier then this and yet again only and R coagula 1978 was rated R and is considered one of most depraved movies ever created. Same with 40 days of Sodium.
The Stormfront lovers spin is going to turn into plot holes…. This Soldier Buy was at WW2 and was a Badass who hates Nazis so why would he hook up with one. They need to end up saying that she was just a fuckbuddy and he didn’t know shit about her, and because Vaught covered it up it never got out. But there’ss No WAY she could have been in a relationship with him without doing , she would had been preaching the whole time like she does with Homelander….
Didn't Starlight need everyone to work together to become Starlight Supreme, maybe I missed something here, her and Hughie was an afterthought. Dammit now I have to watch it again.
Man, I am sure out there is a fanfiction (non sexual) where a Viltrumite invation triggers just in the middle of Herogasm... I want to read it already.
I don’t know about how super powers are supposed to work in this world, but if starlight is able to manipulate energy - she absorbs electricity and shoots it as a laser?- then why doesn’t she play around with her powers to the point that maybe she can absorb other types of energies… like homelanders eyebeam?
going by ONLY the tv show here. She needs electricity it seems. so its a leap to assume any form of energy is useable for her. Like saying "my tv needs electricity to work so.... why cant it use fire?". It is a cool idea I will grant you that! that kind of thinking leads to some cool written fights and arcs but I would say homelander would cut her in half or punch right thru her before she could try from what we have seen in the show. she seems fairly weak as heroes go in the show, so i wonder what shes like in the comics which i will read online someday.
@@Auron710 she could practice with other types of energies, she doesn’t have to go directly try and poke homelander in the eyes lol. Let’s say she can’t do that, then how about learning to manipulate her energy release? Maybe she could condense her energy into a light sword or create a force field? Or why not even play around with the powers she actually showcases, why note release her energy in a way that she can disorient her enemies like a solar flare?
Honestly.. the shows episode of herogasm really wasnt at all that shocking or crazy… i definitely thought itd be way worse. I think im not in the minority with this either.
