You mentioned that FSK participated in operation enduring freedom in Afghanistan, now here is a fun fact for you then. The FSK were the first boots on the ground in Afghanistan doing recon and target selection 2-3 weeks before the americans even arrived. Now at the time it was a big secret and it took approximately 3 years before that got known. It is being said that US requested FSK to do recon because of their skills and expertise in harsh mountain terrain because that is were our special forces is in their a-game.
@@GeirAndreTonning I can also tell you that they were the most deployed units (2 units were sent to Afghanistan) in operation Enduring Freedom... Norwegian military may not be many people, but they are damn good at what they do...
@@captainwatereater1882 no marine jaeger commando is the same as navy seal and not marines is like sayin that the MJk guys didnt just go through one of the haredest admission requirements in the world just to gets called 18/19 years old marins that just finish base camp
@@therealherobrine7726 yes it is the marine, meaning they will execute missions from water to land, they are not stationed on the water at all times, but they are trained to do their missions from the water. MJK were for example stationed in afghani water to deal with pirates. But they were also on land to help there too.
@@captainwatereater1882 it is actually the equivalent of the Navy seals... I think the issue here is the way The US uses the term "Marines" as compared to Norway... MJK is the best special unit Norway has (at least that we know of) as of 2020, and while they do technically fulfill the requirements to be an amphibious unit, they are also the best trained unit in terms Desert warfare Norway has... as for the piracy operations, it took place off the coast of Somalia I think
MJK is not marines, They are all under the same branch called "Forsvarets Spesialstyrker". MJK is more like Navy seals while FSK resembles SAS in many ways. They also have two distinct ways to select their operators in the same spirit SAS and Navy Seals have. I have worked with these guys and have personally tried out for one of the groups. Great guys
actually theire not under the branch FSK (Forsvarets spesialforces) they are theire own branch. there is trhee branches in the defence its MJK FSK and Delta force
@Aleksandar Davidov it is a SOF but the comander of FSK is not the commander of MJK. And delta force was created by FSK so technecly its military branch but is assigned as police
@Aleksandar Davidov your asking answered questions and delta force is the second name (sort of) to beredskapstroppen. It even says "Delta Norge" on theire patch. Before u start trying to prove something read about it. Littarly there are three books about every branch and i have read them all
Alot of missunderstandings here i see. - Delta (beredskapstroppen) - counter terror police force made in response to the munich olympic terror. - FSK - Armys special forces - MJK - Navys special forces Delta works and trains closley with the special forces but are not under the same chain of command as they are not a millitary unit. FSK and MJK each have their own chief of command but bouth answere to "chief of special forces" who is now Torgeir Gråtrud. Easy as that
The reason its so hard to find information on these guys is because of all the secrecy. It is rumoured that our own government didnt even know they were operational and had been in combat before year 2000 when they forced the military to tell them when they were operational. The Norwegian sf has also done alot of hostage rescues and raids. They have also been deployed to most wars and it is rumoured that there have been casualties during the selection processes for MJK.
All I’ll say is that there’s a reason why our best operators are requested, on merits, to train allies of Norway. We don’t share any details about them, the only way to learn about them and their methods is to be a close enough ally and hope you impress them enough for them to agree to help train you. Before the "War on Terrorism" started NATO and the US requested training and aid from this branch of our special forces, they decided to take the operation themselves. Almost a month before the invasion these guys scouted in foreign territory without being uncovered, in fact their involvement wasn’t even known by the joint forces for over 3 years.
You said you're unsure about the criterias and the 2 minutes, so here they are (might be someone already answered but I didn't bother to check: - 8 hang-ups - 45 push-ups (not time-based) - 50 sit-ups (under 2 minutes) - 400m swimming (under 11 minutes) - 25 reversed sit-ups (you have to get back to horizontal position within 5 secs after lowering your body every time) - Underwater swimming for 25m - Run 32 rounds around a field in 10min (15m × 7m x 15m × 7m) - walk 30km with ca. 28kg carry: 1 weapon, 2 liters of water, food and a 22kg heavy backpack The Norwegian Army informs that these are just minimums and if you want to pass, you'll have to do even better in every category. Also you mentioned that you have to serve one year first, but you can join as "Fallskjermjeger" the first year (Paratrooper directly translated). This is a educational special force team from FSK, specifically for people who are doing their first year, and after a year you can choose if you want to join FSK or finish your duty.
we also have something called "heimevernet" which is a sort of home defence where people who served can go into after their service and have on the side of your ordinary life. so say you work as a teacher then you are in the heimevernet on the side so if something happends like war we will have many troops ready to protect our country. it is also intresting because they have a youth program called "heimevernsungdom" which teens from ages of 16-21 can join and be in the heimevernet and see how the military works and be in uniform while learning and going on training missons. i am apart of one of the districts and im headed there in 30 min (we meet evry week). I am so proud of being in uniform that i just wanted to share. its a blast getting military experience and wearing said uniform.
Yeah in Norway the Emergency Response or national swat team is called DELTA. Every detachment don't always have these but they are armed with MP5's and Pistols until DELTA gets there.
from WWII Company Linge ( early MJK/FSK ) focuses on sabotage, parachuting was trained by the British by the British SOE (Churchill's Secret Agents of special operation)
Would recomend a bit of prononunciation training before making theese videos as you to be frank butchered the language, and it was operation GunnerSide not Slide.... But other then that a good video.
FSK was part of the Army, and MJK was part of the Navy until they changed it in 2014 and out both in their own section (FS - Forsvarets Spesialstyrker) Armed Forces SF
@@adrianhilt9403 I am aswell:) Enlighten me as to what your personal feelings are on the topic, before that, i'll stick to official information. They both have their individual aspect of operation. MJK is still the Naval SOF component, and FSK is still the land based component. What changed in 2014 however, is that they were put under the same command (As we both said), -and that command runs both operations, funding and training for both units. What this also encompasses is that none of the units "belong" to any branch. Ofcourse they're separate units, but they are under the same section in the armed forces. Sometimes you should read official information and not just wikipedia. Also helps to know people within those unit:)
H&K 416 and 417 are the most common guns used, 416 is the standard across the board for most troops not limited to special forces, the MP7 is widely used by medics though, the artillery used to carry MP5s but changed to the 416 when it got implemented.
They still use the C8. The C8 is based on a AR-15 design as well as the 416/417. FSK/MJK have several weapons to choose from but the reason they use the C8 is that is has a special forces "edition" with a heavy barrel. Explained simple: C8 version they use can shoot more bullets in a shorter time without overheating the barrel :)
The female troop has far lower standards than the male special forces troops. The criteria are: ONE pull-up; 20 push-ups; 35 sit-ups in two minutes or less; 20 back extensions; swim 200 metres (660 ft), with no underwater phobia; and perform a 7-kilometre (4.3 mi) road run carrying 22 kilograms (49 lb) in 59 minutes. The men have to do at minimum: 8 pull-ups, 45 push-ups and 50 sit-ups in two minutes, swim 400 meters in under 11 minutes, and march 30 kilometers carrying 25 kilograms in less than 4 hours and 50 minutes. The jegertroopen is nowhere near the average male SF troop.
this is the Criterias listed to be able to apply for the female special forces. just as a bachlor is required to do a high level job. this is not the criterias to get accepted in a position.... might clear up some confusion for people. after u have preformed thees test, then you are allowed to attend the the real tests....
You don’t actually need to finish your 1st time service to join the FSK or the MJK. You can get into the FSK or MJK and do your 1st time service there, if you can go thru the selection process.
Sondre Calmeyer it is you and only you who decide if you wanna try out for the MJK, FSK or spesialbåtoperatør. You are not required by law to join the FSK or MJK and if you choose to go thru the selection process you can give up and quit at any time and if you make it thru they will put you on a 6 month education program to become a special/elite soldier and after that they will offer you a job. I don’t know if this answered your question or not.
Only two military SOF units today: FSK and MJK FSK was formed in 1982 and rough numbers say there's about 200 guys operational today MJK was formed in 1953 and is about half the size of FSK One Police counter terrorism unit: Delta aka beredskapstroppen Delta was formed in 1976 Jegertroppen is a mandatory service unit within FSK, meaning it's not a professional unit. Today the Special Forces use: C8 SFW, HK417, HK416, Barrett MRAD, Barrett M82, FN Minimi, MP7. The operation to prevent the germans from getting was called Operation Gunnerside, NOT Gunnerslide. Current deployments (the last couple years) include: Afghanistan, Iraq, Jordan, Syria, Niger. All of the units are on counter terror standby in Norway.
Yes, we still use mg3 (in 1990s i used one that had the eagle stamped on the top, the rest was scratched out, but it is not hard to think where that one come from) but it is now mostly used as an heavy MG on cars an so on. The soldiers now a days use the minimi, not as fun but a more versatility gun.
You really need to check your shit dude. FSK - Contains 3 sub divisions. All are Army SF. MJK is not Marines they are they are Naval Rangers. They can be compared to US SEAL Teams. Op.Gunnerside - Was not done with the brits. The brits failed and the fully Norwegian team from Kompani Linge went in. They were regular soldier with special training in guerrilla tactics. Kompani Linge was a part of the Norwegian AF during and was based out of Scotland during the war. They were not a part of SOE but worked a lot with them on OPS in Norway. Kompani Linge was what became FSK after the war.
We don't have army of navy special forces anymore. Both FSK and MJK are in their own branch, Forsvarets spesialstyrker (FS), operating under the Norwegian Special Operations Command (NORSOCOM). As for FSK's sub-organisation. The other two units are not special forces. They are non-operational training units with conscripts that serve their mandatory military duties.
Norways Special Operations units: MJK (Naval SF) FSK (Army SF) KJK (Coastal rangers) Along with SOF operators from the Intelligence service and the artillery battalion

You cant apply to the special forces in norway after your first military service. It is meant to either have your first military service in the "normal" military, or the special forces. Coming from a current norwegian solidier.
Good video, unfortnatly there really is not much information about their operations, some are out there, but alot of them are classified. They where part of the Anaconda operation in Afghanistan as far as I know, they also are one of few if any other foreign special forces to recieve Navy Presidental unit citation for being part of Taskforce K-bar. As for weapons these guys can pick from the upper shelves of the best weaponry the world can offer, they do not have standard norwegian weaponry if they choose not to have. so these guys operate a wide vareity of weapons. There where a TV-series about people wanting to join FSK and a camera crew followed them through the process of being a FSK member. After they become FSK they can't show their face on TV-shows and such ... their identity are to be kept secret. If I don't remember wrong, they also where training Aghan police special forces and mentoring them, also have been with them on many sharp missions in Kabul.
2:15 there was also a special kommando which was known as kompani Linge (Max Manus's special forces that specialized on sabotage of german boats during the 40s I think it started between 41 and 42 depending on the timing of when things happened ... your picture in 2:18 shows the battle of telemark featuring destroying heavy water plantation where Norwegian squad fought along Royal Marines of British forces on the sabotage, hell even USA wanted to get involved by just bombing the whole place using a bomber plane which wouldn't work due to lack of accuracy there's a documentary series about it called The battle of heavy water or norwegian title : Kampen om Tungtvann
FSK are SOF, not SF. And the ladies have totaly different tests then the male. They are conscripts and not professionals. But over the year they serve they become very very good at their things...
Yeah, it’s kinda hard finding information about them. Even their motto is “Everything you’ve heard about the marines is true, but you will never know the truth. “
@@oliverlang5553 Thats the motto of the military, the special forces motto is as stated; Everything you have heard about the navy seals/paratrooper/operators (not marines) is true, but you will never know the truth".
FSK ( More Army based Special Forces) MJK ( comes more from Marine / Naval commando forces) back in WWII FSK was part of MJK, it all were under diffrent name
I wish you added information about the different branches, aka Fallskjermjegertroppen, countered to Marinejegerkommandoen, and Kystjegerkommandoen. What their differences are, and how they are alike. I struggle to find information about this too ):
There are two special forces in Norway; FSK (Army, equivalent to Green Berets) and MJK (Navy, equivalent to Navy SEALs - NOT marines). HJK is a subdivision of FSK which trains 10-20 conscripts per year. These conscripts go through nearly the exact selection as FSK operators. After they finish their mandatory year, they are encouraged to apply to FSK and become professionals. Jegertroppen (JTR) is another subdivision of FSK which is all-female. Although women have always been allowed to apply for FSK to become a spesialjeger (equivalent to Green Berets, the main/original operators of FSK) no woman has yet been able to qualify. Jegertroppen has physical requirements aimed at women. JTR is not used for direct action. It is very redpill. MJK is not part of FSK. They have not merged. The main weapon in the Norwegian military is the HK416, but the special forces supposedly have access to everything under the sun.
FSK is more like 1st SFOD-D aka Delta Force and SAS than Green Berets. FSK do have great sea capabilities since protecting oilrigs is one responsibility. The HK416 was not chosen by FSK so they kept using C8 is what I have heard from one of their operators. One reason was that C8 performed better than 416 in salty sea water.
Kinda forgot about the 3 week's of selection after those 3 days you mentioned. In those 3 weeks, you will expirence extreme mental and physical preassure from the first day to the very end. :)
Man, I normally like your content but I had to drop a huge dislke on this one. As a former serviceman it bothers me ALOT when you compare US Marines to MJK (Marinejegerkommandoen). MJK is a special operations force comparable to your Navy Seals, but the US Marines are no more than a professional soldier. I knoe there are "special" forces attached to US Marines, but that is only a few and a very limited number. As I am sure you can imganine, this is written with angry passion so excuse my spelling, as a Norwegian this is a 3rd language for me. But you know, keep up the great work, just do beter facts next time
First all women spec ops? Bold statement. The oldest I know of was the Dahomey tribe in Africa. The enslaved everyone they could get their hands on. Look it up if you want nightmare fuel.
Also you got the weapons kinda correct. It is true they use the HK 416 and HK 417 now. But before the ''upgrade'' they used the canadian C8. Most of the special forces operators didnt like the HK 416 and HK 417 so they chose to keep the C8 as they liked it better.
They still use the C8. The C8 is based on a AR-15 design as well as the 416/417. FSK/MJK have several weapons to choose from but the reason they use the C8 is that is has a special forces "edition" with a heavy barrel. I also heard something along the lines of the 416 having some issues with the gas piston system. Coming from a cold environment to a warm (outside to inside) and that is why they kept the c8sfw. I could be wrong.
Not really wrong. In the begining it was some parts in the piston made of lower quality materials. When the gun had shot some 5000 round, it was not possible to shot single shot or stop the burst. So when you pull the trigger, the whole magasin was emptied regardless of what you was doing. That is fiksed now. But SOFN still use C8 most of the time annyway due to the versatility of the gun.
FSK uses the C8sfw and not the hk416. The hk416 had some issues with the gas piston when coming from a cold environment into a warm environment (from outside to inside).
@@markusnss Had* The 416 is commonly used in our NORSF but you are correct, earlier models has had problems with the gas piston system. The C8CQB and C8SFW are the official standard issue in both the FSK and MJK but they get to use whatever they want which the unit holds on hand like 416s
Instead of hanging yourself up in countless name changes, you should rather tell us what Norwegian special forces are best at, namely using their ear listening to, and interpret enemy signals so they can give NATO / US relevant targets for Nevada guided drones or Raptors with rockets under the wings, while they camp self-sufficient and invisible for weeks and months in groups of 4-5 men, far into hostile territory. Having the front line of the Cold War through our indivisible kingdom, and the CIA's inexhaustible war bank account for thirty years has left its mark. =)
