Nintendo is arguably the greatest video game company in the world. While they are adored by millions worldwide, a lot of those fans may have no idea what they are talking about and fed lies that the public now believes as true.
This is TheGamer’s list of 10 lies you were told about Nintendo.

You may think you know everything there is to know about Nintendo, but you probably don't. Okay, sure, it’s definitely impressive that you can name each of the Koopalings, that shiny Mewtwo in your completed Pokedex is also pretty cool and maybe you can finish the Ocarina of Time’s Water Temple without swearing, but that doesn’t mean you know everything. Some of the most popular and well-known Nintendo facts are actually false no matter how many times you’ve heard them or wish they were true. It’s common knowledge that Mario was known as Jumpman in the Donkey Kong arcade game, but was that his original name? Many Nintendo gamers believe Donkey Kong is a mistranslation of “Monkey Kong,” but that is not the case. The NES wasn’t the first home console released by Nintendo. A lesser known console was released earlier, but only in Japan. Speaking of the NES, it’s very difficult to pinpoint when the original Super Mario Bros. was actually released. Contrary to popular belief, it’s actually pointless to blow into Nintendo cartridges. If you’ve played the original Metroid, you’ve heard of Justin Bailey, but did he work on the game? The movie The Wizard led us to believe gamers played Super Mario Bros. 3 at the Nintendo World Championships but it never happened. Nintendo didn’t even develop the Power Glove! While the characters of Star Fox may look like they have robotic legs, we assure you they are normal. Don’t even get us started on trying to understand the genders of Yoshi and Birdo. Without further ado, here are 10 lies you were told about Nintendo!

Its sad because a real educated professional journalist would be able to tell by the spelling that one T is "mow-toe" and 2 Ts is "mot-toe". Just like "bros" is short for brothers like Mr for Mister. You wouldnt say Mer (mr)Wizard instead of Mister Wizard. The turd is reading a script and obviously has no personal knowledge of the subject matter being discussed. The birdo one isn't complicated really. I've always understood her to be a transgender character. I even figured that when I was a kid before I even had a term for it. While male physically, Birdo wants to be a girl hence the bow, makeup and lashes. No one in the Mushroom kingdom seems to have a problem with it so idk why it should matter. Birdos just being Birdo and they accept her for who she is with no judgement which is pretty great. :)

Actually, I was told blowing into the cartridge helped remove dust particules from it that was covering the prongs or what not. May not have been true but that's what I was told.

1.) Shygeeru Miya-motto. Thanks for that! 2.) I have never heard the "Monkey Kong mistranslation" lie ever. Also, the donkey part came from the fact that DK was supposedly "stubborn like a donkey." 3.) Hey, that one was actually OK! 4.) It started OK, then descended into chaos. Popeye wasn't a ripoff of Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong was another game created from the ideas Yokoi and others had for a Popeye game, but they couldn't get the Popeye license. 5.) Pretty good, covered all the bases there! 6.) Cool, cool, got that one too. 7.) OK, but this doesn't apply to anyone too young to have heard about The Wizard- except for the Power Glove, of course. 8.) This one was pretty obvious to most people. 9.) You know, you can't really always trust Nintendo people. They could be covering up secrets they tried to hide *cough cough not in your cough videos cough cough*. Like the Peach-Luigi theory! 10.) Excuse me? "BEARDO?" Woooooooow. Also, everyone knows that Birdo is going through a, well, gender crisis to say the least. Good job covering the Yoshi "crisis", though! But, that manual is from Super Mario Bros 2, which is canonically a dream. Birdo is also called "Ostro", and SMB2 is yet another ripoff, this time of Doki Doki Panic. And finally, the outro. You have a blatantly copied sound clip from Super Mario 64, then a few seconds of silence before cutting away to show your logo for the second time. Nice job!

As of the Star Fox boots, they are hard shell boots that protect their G-Suits from damage. That's obvious. If you look at space suit concept designs from the 90s you'll see the design a lot. A one-piece space flight suit with clothing worn over it to protect it and make sure you don't look like a total nerd flying in their pajamas. The hard overboot is seen in early 90s designs for Ski Boots, Hockey Skates and Rollerblades. Anyone from the late 80s and early 90s should pick up on that.

Unsurprisingly to me, since "TheGamer" is part of "ThePremium" there are many fallacies in the descriptions given. I noticed most of them immediately. Assuming the "lies you were told" came from RU-vid videos, even the name of this video is most likely a real lie. All of the videos I have watched presented most of the claims as opinion or theory or was described as rumor, with a few slips of the tongue. This video seems to present all claims made by the narrator as fact. I have never come across anyone in the comments who have noticed these nuances, so I understand their confusion, but not TheGamer's apparent deception

Donkey Kong is named "Donkey" because he wanted to name him something stubborn, like a Donkey, not goofy. Justin Bailey was a video game magazine writer/editor, and that code was in homage to him. I think he worked for GAMEPRO.

Tbh the best headcanon is that Jumpman and Pauline are Mario and Luigi's parents. This would explain MANY things, including why Pauline doesn't recognize Mario in Odyssey.

Super Mario Bros. wasn't a launch title for the Japanese Famicom, but In the U S of A, Super Mario Bros. WAS indeed released on October 18th, 1985, coinciding with the release of the NES in North America.

The NES had a limited launch in NY with ROB, as an test, which all sold out instantly. Then they released it with ROB or Super Mario in its national release. So, it's your point of view if it's a release title.

When I got my first console the SNES I never believed blowing into cartridges will help. I only blew into cartridges to get dust out.

Actually, Metroid does have one legitimately preprogrammed password. Entering NARPAS SWORD0 prevents your health and missiles from dropping below 30. There is no other methods of achieving that effect, short of rom hacking or using a Game Genie, so it has to have been added intentionally. The Japanese version used save slots instead of passwords so it must have been added during localization.

When I Got Nintendo in '86 it included a Duck Hunt/Gyromite .. For Duck Hunt I Got official gray on gray pistol and for Gyromite I got R.O.B. The robot that pressed one of 2 buttons and was slow as hell.... This was around Xmas in '86 in Southern California Los Angeles County. ..Did everyone else get the same?

Miyamoto is notoriously inconsistent though. Even if he at some point wanted to name the character this, the general name nintendo knew him as was in fact jumpman.

Hold on a minute. I went through my garage and found my old snes. I read the back of my earthbound copy and it said that after you take it out you have to blow on it before you put it on again.
