This kit was a life saver! Brian was so quick to email back and the video was perfect for a step-by-step guide. I actually used this on my camper’s unit which did have a refill port. Mine did not require the adapter, but I had everything I needed. It was easy to do and I plan to buy another kit to recharge my Mitsubishi split unit! 10/10 recommend. Last week’s camping trip was nice and cool!

Great video! I had no experience with mini-splits, but just bought a house filled with them. One of our units was not working prior to moving in, and of course it's in the room that's 75% windows and in Texas and in the summer. I watched this video and did a decent amount of research, and decided it was worth it to risk the price of the kit even if it wasn't the solution. When the kit showed up I quickly learned my pipe configuration was different than the video. I sent a couple of pics in an email and Brian responded almost immediately, and within 10 minutes I had cold air blowing! The kit barely costs more than many techs will charge just for diagnostics. I could not be happier that I stumbled across this video. Thanks, Brian!!!

@@spiderstone Hi Rick, it's okay to ask, margins are super tight as refrigerant goes up practically daily. Shipping varies depending on region. I honestly make my money on ads and offer my kits as tight as I can to Help DIYers and still employee my humble staff. 😌 But be assured most of my customers save $100s to $1000s vs. A typical HVAC call and service.

Nice work. You should leak test your fittings with a bubble solution. Solving the leak may be as simple as tightening a fitting.

This kit works! I admit I was a bit skeptical whether it would fix the low refrigerant problem in my Mitsubishi mini split. I'm happy to say that I had zero problems using the recharging kit and my air temperature went from 61 degrees to 49 degrees. Anyone that's even a bit "handy" can use this kit without issues. Finally got it up and running. The only delays we had was because we realized we needed some extra parts (I’ll list that below) ru-vid.comUgkxihMYiJNXcHdbH-7ihymsLz61l7jVyb5O . So we have a loft where our current hvac just couldn’t seem to keep cool during the summer. We have been using a window unit since we bought this house over 6 years ago (all the houses in this neighborhood were built in the 80’s and majority of the houses built like ours use a window unit). I hate window units because they are just so noisy and the one we had really only cools one side of the loft. I had contemplated upgrading our current HVAC, but with all the rising prices these days, it would take years before saving up enough to do that. With the advice of my father-in-law (used to run an HVAC business), he recommended we get an inverter instead. We thought we bought everything we needed, but there were just a few other parts we didn’t anticipate needing (which is what caused most of our delay). My friend and father-in-law did all the work to get it installed and running and now we have nice cool air circulating nicely throughout the entire loft. It is very quiet and even the outside unit is much quieter than our main HVAC unit. Saved ourselves thousands getting this.

@@GarageMahalLife Right now, I'm in the room that AC is cooling and I can't thank you enough for that kit! The room, which is above a garage and has minimal insulation in the roof, gets crazy hot and now the AC cools it down in about an hour. Before the recharge, it wouldn't cool down at all so the room was pretty much unusable all summer. Thank you again and by any chance, do you sell a kit that can do a quick recharge on a conventional AC? Our house unit needs a recharge about every 3 years because of a small leak but it's not worth replacing the whole unit, or paying for the coil replacement, since the recharge fee in only a couple of hundred bucks. If I could recharge myself, that would be really awesome!

Worked on my unit a 12K btu single head senville. Not sure where or what leak was, but started to produce heat like it should. Took whole bottle. I checked pressure on unit after charging and it was right where it should be. Will see how long unit continues to run and recomment if need be. Fittings at compressor were all good, no leaks. Did not check flares and connections from the head unit connections with the line set. If it looses charge will take apart cover and insulation and check for leaks. Unit was originally pressure tested and nitrogen purged when installed. Fittings were all good. If it leaks again might be coil in head or compressor unit. Hope sealant did it’s job. Set to 85 F and unit was putting out 109+ degrees, when set to 70F put out around 88 degrees.

Thanks Brian. Great video!! I am installing a Mitsubishi mini split but because of line lengths I may have to add more refrigerent. Just a couple of questions before I purchase. @GarageMahalLife
@GarageMahalLife 2 года назад
Hi Derrick, email me at Brian.niskala@cnjrail.com and you want to have the pressure in the outer blue range, marked 410a. All the units come with dye and sealant. The dye is more so a small amount of pigment that a UV light illuminates. Honestly you want it for future potential issues. All mininsplits will leak after 3 to 5 years. Mainly because of the extreme swing from hot to cold from the heat pump/compressor.

So you only opened the port, but didn't check any of the connectors. My concern is if it's that low, and I think mine is in a similar state, that it's leaking somewhere? Or does it just eventually get low? Thanks!
@GarageMahalLife

As I had stated in another comment, initially I had a loose connection on install that had gone unnoticed for a bit. So the efficiency of the new unit took about 2 years to show the low pressure. I did however check for leaks all over the entire unit.

Hi David, the u it needs to heat to 140 degrees on the outside line before it will trigger the inside unit to push out heat. Sounds like I maybe just under that temp and low on refrigerant by a few ounces. computrader.myshopify.com/products/diy-mrcool-plus-recharge-kit-plus-uv-dye-sealant-all-in-one-fix here is the link to one of my kits. And also there is a small clear tube near the outside of the filters of the inside unit,, make sure that is free of dust and dirt.

This is an awesome video thank you so showing us! Question: I didn't have any leaks when I hooked up my 18K Mr. Cool, but I"m wondering how full they really ship them since it's a DIY. I'm interested to see if it's just slightly low and a little add of freon would make it even better of an AC unit. It cools nicely now, but if you hit about 110 degrees outside and the garage starts to get hot it does struggle a bit. I do have to admit, this is one nice unit Mr. Cool sells. Anyway, what do you think about adding a little to just a normal DIY install to get the maximum cooling effect?
@GarageMahalLife
@GarageMahalLife 4 года назад
Putting a gauge on it in the least would be worth seeing where it is at. My guess is you will not get it with max pressure, but mid to low. Topping it off to correct pressure would get you the best performance. That's what I did with both units and not only cool better, but heat far better in the lower temps!

thanks for the video. I screwed up when I installed the mini split and didn't get the lines vacuumed before I released the refigerant. the mini split worked for about 2 weeks and now it's making a clanking sound on the outside unit. I'd like to get the mini split working. I was thinking I would need to vacuum out the lines correctly this time and then add refigerant. Does that make sense? If I hook up the vacuum correctly this time, will it just suck out the refigerant? Is one of these bottles enough to fully charge a mini split? Thanks in advance.
@GarageMahalLife
@GarageMahalLife 2 года назад
Hi, vacuum is always a good idea on new installs, but on the DIY minis it is not needed. Typically what happens is you may have let a little out on the install, had a fitting a bit loose. It only takes a few ounces low for the units not to work properly. Keep in mind that it is basically a sealed system until you release the refrigerant into the lines, anything not tightened will cause a lose in pressure. With that in mind, there is always a positive pressure beyond atmosphere in the lines u til almost fully empties. Getting moisture in the lines with pressure is rare. My kit is enough to fill most systems to pressure or about 1/3 to 1/2 full. So you Typically would need 3 tanks to fill from vacuum all the way to pressure. Hope this all helps. Thank you for watching

Yes and no, great part of my kit is it is also a diagnostic tool, just make sure it is in cooling mode, 62 degrees no matter the inside or outside temperature. If you have zero as pressure, which is typically a rare case, you would have to vac down the lines, but again a rare situation if your unit is totally empty.

I purchased your kit this Monday, received in TWO days....thank you!! The gauge on my unit was barely registering when hooked up to my Mr Cool unit and it took the whole can of R410A to reach approximately 60 to 70lbs. Is this common? Also, my charge port was on the lower refrigerant line....I have a 120 volt unit. This may be useful to your subscribers to be aware of. It was the only refrigerant line with a charge port. I just ordered another can to top it off from your website. Thanks again!

Did you have to pull vacuum before using this kit? I just installed the Mr. Cool. One of the pipes was kinked during initial install. I replaced the line set but heard that I was probably going to have to recharge the unit. Have you ever had to pull vacuum to recharge your Mr Cool DIY?
@GarageMahalLife
@GarageMahalLife 3 года назад
So if your system lost refrigerant at install, like most units have, just because people don't have the fittings tight the first time... you could use my kit to top it off. If you lost 100% of the refrigerant, then the lines have become compromised with atmosphere running in, drawing humidity and with it. So you would have to vacuum to get all the water vapor out... but if you have positive pressure, you wouldn't necessarily have to vacuum, but recommend on any large loss of refrigerant scenario. I hope this helps!

Thank so much for this video! I have a fugitsu unit that was installed seven years ago. I'm getting an A1 code. (about once every other week or so) Everything I can find on the internet points to a low charge. So I think this kit is perfect. Is your Kit pre-blended with with UV Dye & Leak Sealant? And how important is that?
@GarageMahalLife
@GarageMahalLife Год назад
Low refrigerant is typically the issue with mini splits not working properly 95% of the time. Typically the Suction port/recharge port develops a leak right at the valve. My refrigerant has a sealant that seals most leaks and with the UV dye you can easily find the leak. The sealant will continue to work for years after.

Yes, no matter the temp outside or in, always make sure the unit is in Cooling mode and the lowest setting 62degrees. That way it is in low pressure on the suction/fill port. Brian, thanks for posting this! I just replaced my AC compressor in my car and recharge the system from empty vacuum state to blowing ice cold air here in Houston Texas in 140° heat. Then it occurred to me that the Mr Kool in my garage might be the same process. Your video basically confirmed that including the same R410A. Since this video is 3 years old, I am curious if the system is still holding up even with these recharges? On my vehicle I found that the only source of leaking was the actual Schrader valve where the connection is made with the can. Most vehicle ACs that leak can be tracked down to that Schrader valve. Have you ever vacuumed the entire system down and done a leak check? If so that would be an awesome video to show how that equipment connects if you are aware?

Does it matter what the temp is outside when using the gauge? It's a little warmer today so I hooked the gauge up again and it was showing blue but close to the yellow. I gave it a couple squirts anyway so now it's basically on the border of blue and yellow. I set it back to heat mode and let it run for a while and now it's blowing warm air at about 90 degrees. But I have an identical unit that's newer and that one is putting out more like 125 degrees in heat mode right now. Is there anything else I could check?

So the temprature does affect the overall pressure, but it is all realative. Once you get it between 125psi and 135psi half way to 3/4 blue you will be good, not matter the outside temp. Just make sure you charge in cooling mode, 62 degrees.

And will this bottle be enough for me to recharge to proper level? I don’t think all of it leaked. Probably a good amount. Will this gauge still give me to a proper reading for my 24k? @GarageMahalLife 2 года назад
I have a UV dye in the refrigerant, get my kit with the UV pen, unless you have one. If when you attach the gauge it is at zero, you have a pretty significant leak. If you have pressure, fill with my refrigerant and the sealant in the refrigerant will seal most leaks. Then with the UV pen you can spot the UV dye anywhere there is a leak after the unit runs for a few minutes. As for the smell, it could be the refrigerant leaking out, but you would see kind of like a "smoke" mist kind of thing from the leaking refrigerant hitting the air...

@GarageMahalLife 3 года назад
Great question, there is a 50 degree cut off on the gauge reading. You can kind of figure out where to get it at based on how the numbers fall, however the unit needs to be in cooling mode to charge. Ideally get a heater inside to get the area above 62 degrees so the unit gets tricked into staying in cooling mode to charge properly. Add pressure and then disconnect the gauge before putting in heat mode to test. You might have to play around with it a bit to get it right. Ideally you need it above 62 inside and the warmer above 50 degrees outside the better.

@GarageMahalLife 3 года назад
Hi Ph, 1st and foremost these are great units hands down, I own 2 and love them. Well with pre-charged lines, they have to be perfect as mentioned in some other comments and maybe in the video... while connecting 1 of the 2 units, I did not have the line as tight as I should and refrigerant had escaped... thus unit being under charged. But the unit ran like a champ for about 2 years. Then it stopped heating. Low on refrigerant... charged it up and now it is a right as rain. So 80% of the time, it is a fitting not being tight enough at the get go. 20% of the time the seals on the schrader fill valve tend to go bad, as such as a car AC and they need to be replaced. The will leak refrigerant out, not let air in... a very confusing and controversial subject. You can with out system failure or issues safely recharge your unit. So 80% error on install and 20% valve leak/failure. Hope this helps, I'm here to help so please email me at brian.niskala@cnjrail.com with any other questions you may have. Again I Love These Units! :)

I have received a new outside condensor unit under warranty and want to make sure I'm doing it correctly. Should I be able to just close the valves on the current outside unit, remove the lineset connections, and then reattach them once the new unit is set and be good to go? Either way you will lose some pressure. If it cools, but does not heat, is almost always a low refrigerant issue in any and all mini split units...

@@GarageMahalLife Ok thanks for the quick reply. I'm getting ready to order the recharge kit. No issues foreseen when swapping the old condenser for the new by simply closing valves and disconnecting the lineset then reattaching to the new unit before opening those valves?

@@greybonner2043 You'll definitely lose pressure for sure, but no. Just make sure the lines are tightened up, and do a quick "burp" of the connections to let any regular air out. Pretty easy process like the install.

I’m a tech and I’m interested. This Could save me time from having to recover and weigh in new charge. Can I use on any brand other than mr. cool ?

Absolutely, with the adapter it will work on 99% of all the systems out there! Be safe and Thank you.

Mine has been having weak A/C. It works but does not seem to have anywhere near full capacity. So i bought a kit. However, the pressure tested good so I guess it's tech support time. The needle was in the blue but was a bit bouncy. Is that nornal?

Good thing about my kits is they are good diagnostic tools too... so yes the needle will bounce around a bit. What was the outside ring pressure showing on the needle? Below 125psi? If so, I would add refrigerant until you are like around 135psi... email me Brian.niskala@cnjrail.com with some more specifics. I'm here to help

@@GarageMahalLife It was more than halfway through the blue. Maybe 125?
