In this video, I cover all of the main parts of a neuron including the dendrites, cell body (soma), axon hillock, axon, and axon terminals (synaptic boutons). I describe how a signal travels from the dendrites of a neuron, down the axon, and to the axon terminals to communicate with another neuron through the release of neurotransmitters. I also describe ways of categorizing neurons based on structure (i.e., multipolar, bipolar, unipolar, and pseudo-unipolar) and function (i.e., motor, sensory, and interneurons).
Key points:
00:00 General introduction to neurons
1:17 How neurons communicate
2:12 Parts of a neuron
7:00 Classifying neurons based on structure
8:17 Classifying neurons based on function

I'm glad you like it! My plan is to add a bunch of these 10-minute videos to cover most of the fundamentals I've already covered in 2-minute videos, with the goal of making this channel more of a complete resource.

I just discovered your channel and I'm really happy I did. Especially as a student with English as a second language, your videos help me understand what everything is, before I move onto lectures and Power Points which aren't really for beginners in this area. Also its funny the way the power of your voice changes whenever you turn your head.

My voice changing might just be because my lapel mic doesn't pick up the sound as well when my head is turned to the side...

You make this stuff so much easier to understand. You should write a book kinda like the “for Dummies” books, but you could call it “Neurons for Morons.” This moron would purchase it. 🤣. Great video!

🤣Thanks! I have written a couple neuroscience books for non-scientists, although I didn't go with your title idea! 🤣 But I tried to make them easy to digest. Here's my most recent: www.amazon.com/Bizarre-Peculiar-Cases-Human-Behavior/dp/1399801201/

Newbie, and very apprecative one! I would benifit from time stamps on the content flow. Excellent graphics and delivery style of very dense info! My interest is healthy myelin. ...that the body will subract the 'lip-rich' myelin source.... to maintain or replace vital levels of serum B12 for the whole organism. IE: folate and or B12 serum levels are not indicitive or proof there is no deficiencies?

Thanks! I do have this split up into chapters in the timeline, but also if you look at the video description there are time stamps for the start of each section.
