10 minute tip: ⏲ Face Lathering with a synthetic brush

Thanks to Cris Madden, from the RU-vid channel Another Cut Above; this is his technique, borrowed by myself. I have found this to be an excellent method for face lathering, using a synthetic brush. It puts a good amount of water into the soap, needed for a slick shave, and still allows you to build a voluminous lather. It's a good to start if you are looking to experiment with your natural hair brushes, as they act differently from a synthetic brush.

Dear Mark, thank you very much for this fantastic demonstration. Such an easy and fail-proof method. Thanks to your video, I've mastered face lathering and I almost exclusively face lather now. I was mostly a bowl latherer before. I too love G4 knots from Frank Shaving and have several different-sized knots from them. However, I've found this method to work like a charm on natural bristle brushes as well. Thanks again and have a great day!

Hi Mike. Thank you, it is something I've been thinking about for a little while. I'm doing alright, mate. I hope you are very well. I was thinking of you last week. There is a new dramatisation of War of the Worlds but I believe the film with Tom Cruise is set in Brooklyn. I wondered if you were near. Idle curiosity and nothing much else to do 😃 Take care 👍

Nice little tutorial Mark. I agree Chris gets superb lathers from his synthetics. I’ve recently bought my first synthetic and they do lather fantastically but I just prefer the face feel and look of badger. I’m generally a bowl latherer.
@FriendshipShaving
@FriendshipShaving 4 года назад
Thanks Neil. I like a synthetic to bowl lather and then paint the lather onto my face. I do like my Macy silvertip and my boar, actually but they are all quite different. I find for face lathering a synthetic is not always super soft because of the nylon bristles.

Hi Mark, face lathering is what most wet shavers do here in Italy. This is probably why we normally prefer shaving creams, rather than soaps that come in a pot, but you can use any soap - for example, I like English soaps (Taylor Of Bond Street is my favourite). Nice video Mark, thanks.
@FriendshipShaving
@FriendshipShaving 4 года назад
That's very interesting Enrico. I had wondered why the Italian soaps were often soft or a cream. Thank you for sharing that information. I'll use my Cella next shave.

Nice video. Thank you! I saw it when Chris made that with Arko. I thought"come on, Arko? That always lathers by itself" but the technique itself looks good!🤔

Thanks Jens. Yeah, Arko does lather up well. I've had a few queries about building a lather and I thought Cris' method worked well. It took me ages to be able to face lather 🙄

@@FriendshipShaving Looks like i am lucky. I startet with face lathering after i bought a much to little bowl. I never had problems with it. OK, not every lather was perfect for sure. Sometimes the (new) brushes are diddificult.I start pretty dry and give drops of water into the brush. After three or four times normally the lather is good... But i will try his method too. His lather always looks AWESOME!!! :-) I love youtuve shaving videos and FB groups. Small tipps everywhere. Everybody can get better that way. Thanks for spreading!! :-)

Great technique. I found it does not work with all soaps, obviously depends on qlty. Some shavers even go further, use destilled water, swear on it. I'm not so sure. Cheers.

I wonder what happens to the water when it is distilled and how it changes. I'll be looking that up in a moment, although I will not be buying distilled water to shave with, I'm just curious. Cheers.

Distillation removes minerals and some people use distilled water if their tap water is very hard. I have notoriously hard water, but still revel in extraordinary lathers
@billiamtaylor3509
@billiamtaylor3509 4 года назад
Probably just a standard filter jug would soften the water enough to make a difference
