I have always liked your shop. I always thought it was interesting that your small shop produced real furniture for decades while most “content creators” have shops three times the size and never actually produce anything for real customers but yet feel the need to upgrade because of space limitations 🤨. My favourite part is by far the router table, so very simple and efficient. I also appreciate the skill you have with the MFt and track saw.

Hey Peter, big fan of the channel. Like you say, your space is very relatable to what we've got in the U.K. I've got a garage that's full of everything. I often remind myself that it has similar dimensions to your workshop..Those big garages in the U.S are ridiculous and bigger than my home. Keep your workshop exactly where it is!

Thanks! Valdimir (Mirock) is well, but seems to be concentrating more on his higher-end (and more profitable) brass and hardwood squares and rulers these days. Hi Peter, a great workshop tour and as you mention in the Video, very relatable to many DIY workshops in the UK. My single garage workshop is 5 Metres X 2.5 Meters so on a par with the "working area" of your workshop but ample enough if I keep it tidy whenever possible. As for being close to your house, I did chuckle to myself that it's close enough for a Colin Furze style tunnel 🤣🤣🤣🤣

The only "mid range" plunge saw that I can think of is the Kreg, which is a 110v 60Hz saw. I don't think you could run it if you could even get one. I have one and am really pleased with it. I did manage to cut all the way through my KregACS MFT-style table though when I forgot to change the depth setting, oops.
@10MinuteWorkshop
@10MinuteWorkshop 11 месяцев назад
Yep, but for whatever reason they’ve decided not to sell them here; most other plunge saws sold here with ideas of being better that entry level are basically entry level saws, rebadged. The Kreg does seem genuinely different - the blade’s to the left of the motor, which is unusual for a corded tracksaw. 👍

Towards the end I was thinking that the needs of a worker that deals mostly with sheet goods (especially MDF/HDF) and solid wood (me) - we have a bit of over lap - but I could have saved a lot more space and money going the sheet goods route. Except over in the States my access to MDF/HDF is very limited where as my choices for hardwoods is down right obscene. :^D I've added a thickness sander, planer, cabinet saw (now very close to being declared surplus - we'll see how that goes); all very useful, but oh man they take up room! sigh.....

This is indeed a very relatable shop. From the available space to the clutter and mess. Very realistic. I have one comment though; Why the heck do you need multiple track saws and routers? With limited space, I could imagine to dump a lot of those tools (keep one for spare). Nevertheless, a very impressive collection! Great vid as always.
@10MinuteWorkshop
@10MinuteWorkshop 7 месяцев назад
Thanks. I covered the routers in video 436 - long story short they all do different jobs and I’ve added a couple since then. As for the tracksaws, a couple were given to me for review, most I bought, some for comparison videos and some from when I had my fitted furniture business. I keep them for reference so that I can say for certain that eg my loose tenon jig works fine with the Trend T10 / Festool OF2000 / Lidl Parkside, because I have one and I’ve tried it. 👍

I’ve only been a viewer for about a year now, but that was a nice trip down memory lane. I think may be the sharp angles that would be required. Would make it in efficient or dampen the airflow too much, but considering how many festool dust extractors you have, would putting in a single three motor record power cam vac be a good way to save space which seems to be at a premium in your shop? Thanks for the tour, Peter!
@10MinuteWorkshop
@10MinuteWorkshop 11 месяцев назад
Thanks Frederick. I thing a 3-motor can vac would take up more space then the three discrete vacs I already have! Also I think they’re more geared to large-bore hoses like you see on thicknessers and ‘big iron’ machinery - the kind I don’t really use! 😂👍👍

Hi just wanted to say thank you for your tour and wanted to ask a question ❓ I purchased a track/plunge saw from Rutland's is there any other long track I can buy as Rutland's only do short tracks and have to have 4 joined together for a long track Many thanks in advance

Hi and thanks! I’ve no direct experience of the Rutlands saw I’m sorry, but it seems to be a dead ringer for the Einhell / Parkside type of saw. Which unfortunately means that your choices are probably limited to the OEM rails or the Festool rails. If you don’t mind getting hands-on then you can strip the lip off the Makita-pattern tracks then you should be all good. I did a video about the process here - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QqTJ4SrRD1M.html 👍

Who are the big six? Festool, Mafell, Makita, Dewalt, Milwaukee......evolution?
@10MinuteWorkshop
@10MinuteWorkshop 11 месяцев назад
Makita & DeWalt, Bosch & Metabo, Festool & Mafell. I’ve never used Milwaukee and the saw hasn’t been available for that long here, but it may deserve a spot in there. Evolution is nowhere near these, unfortunately, unless you want the multi material blade. 👍

On occasion the "you need a bigger boat" just does not work. First you need a bigger lake, then you need a bigger boat.

Interesting to see how the workshop has changed over the years from being a full time cabinet maker into a content creator. Nice to see you’ve not thrown yourself into a massive warehouse workshop that’s not relatable for the everyday woodworker and hobbyist.

Cheers Ben! Honestly, I’d love an aircraft-hangar sized workshop, but you mostly have to make do with whatever you have! 👍👍

Wouldn’t we all 😂. I think you learn a lot more when having to work within limitations though so there’s definitely strengths to having limited space. Although you might need a new workshop just to store routers and track saws in soon! 😂
