I actually raised a pet mantis as a child, it was as small as my fingernails (I was 8) and it grew out so big, so colorful and pretty I had it for 6 or 7 months I think

There are ~2.5k distinct species of Mantids, & the morphological variability is extraordinary. They’re also the only insects w/ability to swivel their head 180 degrees, & th3 only insects w/true, 3D vision. I have a pet Giant Asian, who truly seems to know me. Fascinating creatures!
Praying mantises are so cool, watching them move so slowly an staying still. They are awesome. One brown adult praying mantis landed on my left neck yrs ago was an interesting experience.
Arii ꨄ yes that’s because they are the most sought after species of mantis ever. But what I can tell you is that I got 2 spiny flower mantids from mantidkingdom.com and some orchid mantids layed some ooths (pods with baby mantids) of orchid mantids so there will be some there soon if you really want one. Just be careful because they are very delicate and if their humidity isn’t right they will die. If they don’t molt right, they will die. So just make sure your ready :)
Here in New Jersey the species of praying mantises that live here are Carolina mantis which are native while we also have the European and Chinese mantises whom are invasive. Although I’ve only ever seen the Chinese mantis.
I had a Chinese mantis (not in this video) for about 6 months. I’m getting a spiny flower mantis in the next year or so. Mantises can be a decent bit of work depending on they type. My Chinese mantis I think came from a very weak gene pool and was never all that good at catching prey. She was a lot of work since I had to supervise her the entire time she ate.
Wow! it's amazing how the metallic mantid species mimics predatory ground or tiger beetles. A great example may be found in the genus Calosoma. A group of large colorful ground beetles. I'm totally hooked on anything pertaining to these fascinating creatures the insects and kin. Salute!
I find nature more interesting than people and that praying mantis is absolutely beautiful snakes lizards spiders and birds What a Wonderful World it could be if we could just take care of it better
Thanks for this beautiful video showing some Nature beauties. I love Mantis but, in my garden in France, we have only the green and the beige ones. I like taking them in my hands when I see one (rare). Last year I found 2 green and one beige. This year : nothing. They turn their lovely heart-shaped face towards my face if I speak.
I got face to face with a mantis and it did its threat pose so I challenged it! "Do you need an ASS-WHUPIN? Huh?" After a minute or so he pounced on my nose and actually managed a tiny blood spot LMAO!
