because the first thing he listed would most likely be strictly ceremonial, and the reason he gave for #1 is that it would inflict pain and therefore be deadlier. The fact that it has three edges in a spiral means that the wound channel created is larger than a traditional blade would inflict, it's more likely to bleed severely and much more difficult to close

@user-kz8vw7ry7o
@user-kz8vw7ry7o 7 лет назад
Agreed. It'd be great for stabbing, but in terms of slicing it would be rendered useless due to the branches. It might have enough force to break a few bones though.
@Drgordan1231
@Drgordan1231 7 лет назад
Actually.. if you think of it. All of the branches are sharpened, meaning that on impact, it'll not only slice through. but drop down and gain more momentum for a even deeper wound, They can also stab, and even hold blades in combat which gives you openings to counter attacks, it may not be a great weapon. but it definitely has advantages,

i doubt he knows everything but the second you start adding a bunch of extra spikes to a sword or knife it becomes much less useful. ive only made it half way but the only two he said that are any good is the cestus (excuse my spelling) and the katana looking one that was lost during ww2 the sword breaker is useful (not how he described) but it is a decent way to block a rapier and gain a couple extra seconds

You should change the title to "10 Of The Most Overworked Blades In The World!" If you understand knife damage, how blade wounds work, and what makes a good fighting knife (nothing else but fighting knives and swords are "dangerous") then you would understand what I'm talking about. Your #1 knife is a collectors knife, nothing more. It's almost useless in a fight. Yes it could kill someone, but you stick a person one time and the knife most likely isn't coming out. There are probably thousands of very simple knives that don't look as cool that will kill far better. Internet Commando
@ProfecyFiber
@ProfecyFiber 7 лет назад
Steve H. He's talking about the most 'dangerous' and by that he means the one that cause the most damage. Yeah you could only strike someone once with a Karambit, a true fighting knife, but they would bleed out. I think that's what he was going for.
@MrChaosTheory09
@MrChaosTheory09 7 лет назад
If you understood knives and combat you would know what its used for. Many knife designed carried by soldiers would be useless in a fight, they have other uses. "knife most likely isn't coming out. " You can have that problem with any knife.

oh I don't know, the 'this probably fictional blade that's super deadly because its a normal scimitar' wasn't overworked. Perhaps '10 blades [insert dumbass commentator] thinks are perdy'. I'm still trying to wrap my head around this guy thinking horn spiked knuckles were particularly dangerous to the wielder . . . if he thinks accidently punching yourself is a valid detractor he's even less qualified to talk about weapons than the black ops 3 guy . . . if you can't accidently injure yourself with a weapon in some way then the odds are you're not hurting anyone else with it either.

The "swordbreaker" name is more fantastical in nature than it is literal. At best, a flick of the wrist would lock the teeth around the blade of a rapier, or apply enough pressure to hold onto a broader sword blade, but it was rare to see them actually "break" the opponent's sword. Perhaps bend it if it was an inferior sword or a beater, but not break. Its primary use was to catch an opponent's blade and throw off their momentum to open them up to the user's primary weapon. If that knife could break a rapier or other blade, that's either a super-strong (and incredibly expensive) knife, or cheap-ass primary swords, lol. I don't doubt there may be some cases of the sword breaking, but in general it's a swordcatcher, not a breaker. But "breaker" sounds much more intimidating.
@cha5
@cha5 7 лет назад
Solais1019 + Kind of like what some historians think the 'Spanish Notch' on a Bowie knife was created for? catching a knife in a knife fight I mean. Although these days a fair number of historians think that the notch was basically created for stripping meat off a bone or just for decoration.
@cinansnickem228
@cinansnickem228 7 лет назад
Solais1019 I think the "breaker" part refers to the ability to break the opponent's stance. Just my opinion though

swordbreakers grab/lock the blade, Striking it with your main hand weapon (preferably a Mace or Hammer) would snap it.
@MiskyWilkshake
@MiskyWilkshake 6 лет назад
Honestly, swinging a mace or hammer into a blade that's bound in the teeth of a 'swordbreaker' is far more likely to wrench either that sword out of your opponent's hand, or the 'swordbreaker' out of yours than it is to break the sword. If either blade had a complex or basket hilt, it may well break some fingers on the way out too. It might bend a sword (especially something long and thin like a rapier), but even then, it's not terribly likely to unless the sword is poorly constructed, or a training weapon (thrust-centric training weapons tend to be made thinner, or of more flexible steels for the sake of safety). Frankly, if such a blow could actually snap a sword, then it's more likely to break the teeth off of the 'swordbreaker'. Either way, such a technique would be a) very risky to your own safety, b) leave you open for a strike from your opponent (who presumable also has an off-hand weapon), c) be entirely unnecessary, as most styles which utilise parrying daggers teach a-tempo strikes, and even a quick bind with the assistance of a 'swordbreaker' would be sufficient to create an opening. I haven't personally used one, but I know a friend who has, and from what he's told me, they're terribly unreliable at catching a blade in the first place, and if one focuses on trying to catch a blade with it, one becomes predictable and generally looses the bout (this is rapier and dagger fencing in the Italian style btw). He said he had the best success with his 'swordbreaker' when he treated it like any other parrying dagger, and didn't change his technique to try to take advantage of it's unique properties, but rather simply pressed the advantage whenever it just so happened to get a good catch of the opponent's blade.
@aTrueNinja357
@aTrueNinja357 6 лет назад
absolutely right. On all points. Completely forgot even a halfway decent sword will never "break" just bend. Cudos, nice to have some insight from an actual fencer (I'm just an enthusiast)

"Coolest melee weapons" more like. I would rank common axes higher than most of these weapons, they are harder to use than swords and knives, but a direct hit from an axe is devasting, even if the edge is dull. Biggest drawback is the time you have to use to recover if you happend to miss, or if you hit the axe might get stuck in the target, but then target is pretty much dead/destroyed. (r.i.p. murder robot).

Your so called "Swordbreaker" (number 5) is in reality called a Degenbrecher, which translates to Rapierbreaker. The word "breaker" is a little bit misleading. It is a dagger made for parrying (and probably damaging, which is in fact not a simple task) a rapier or other types of fencing blades, not swords. It was commonly used in the left hand to jam the attackers blade, so oneself could use this slight advantage to strike with the main weapon ;)

swordbreakers don't break swords unless the sword was very fragile. You would parry with it in your off-hand, catching the sword and getting it stuck when you twist it, then stab them with your own sword. It was bladed so it could also be used to attack if you were caught by another swordbreaker, or disarmed.
@imugi-16
@imugi-16 6 лет назад
Also important to note that swordbreakers were used for rapier duels. heavy swing from an arming sword or a longsword would easily strike aside such a small and light dagger. Don't even mention something like a dane axe or halberd

I was going to agree with you and then I thought logically. Humanity is varied. Saints, sinners, and in-betweens. There is no "standard" so you could as easily say Humanity is the best band-aid. "Humanity" itself cannot be designated a weapon anyway. A weapon is used by someone. The phrase "he is a living weapon" is a nonsensical phrase used by old ladies to scare themselves. But, some segments of humanity do indeed create some terrible weapons.

At the last weapon, it was mentioned that it could cause a lot of pain and thus was deadly. The relative 'deadliness' of a weapon is measured by how efficiently it kills, not how efficiently it causes pain. Hypothetically, atabbing a person in the groin with a pen can painfully disable him, but it's nowhere as deadly as a fast and painless gunshot to the head. Also, as the knife resembles a drill bit, it is possible that the user will get fatigued from the energy required to drive it in, making this theoretically the most painless but NOT the most deadly, or efficient weapon.

According to historians, the regular Chinese script inscribed on the 7 branch sword suggests the sword was forged in the Jin Dynasty (Eastern Chinese kingdom after the 3 kingdoms era), and forged for or given to the King of Baekje (SW Korean kingdom), and the King of Baekje gave it as a gift to the ruler of Wa/Yamato (SW Japanese kingdom).

I'm having trouble seeing some throwing the chuckrum (or whatever #3 is) 100 meters. Seeing as the Olympic record for a javelin toss is just shy of 90m. To boot, a javelin is balanced and designed to be thrown at distance where as that thing obviously isn't.

Dude, I've been a longtime subscriber, and still am, but I have to say you screwed up on number 1. This weapon's edges are not sharp at all, they are completely blunt until the tip, and the main focus of the dagger is to cause a gaping, uncloseable injury that will bleed profusely, which you didn't even mention. Just a constructive criticism, please do a bit more research

Number one is the most lethal for different reasons. It takes an entire team of surgeons to seal the wound, and it takes only a few minutes to kill you. And if you twist it around its almost a instant kill.
@insrtcowjoke
@insrtcowjoke 7 лет назад
Regarding #1, tri-edged knives originated back in early wars before the Geneva Convention was formed and outlawed them. They were deemed inhumane because they made wounds that almost impossible to suture and stop bleeding, and therefore almost everyone that was stabbed by one would die. So it's actually an old weapon design from back around 1900.
@goheen1701
@goheen1701 7 лет назад
How can the weapons that were never used in combat (like #10) be called 'most deadly'? A small bit of research could have given you some correct pronunciations as well. Not knowing if the "Lantern Shield is a sword or a shield (pick one?) seems a bit odd...

Number two: it's stainless steel its not good for blades it will wear down quickly and need sharpened more frequently, just saying because the way you said it made it sound like a pro rather than a con. The issue with people now is that if it looks scary that automatically means it's dangerous. Take the ar-15 for example it's an amazing firearm used for range shooting and sport. It is dangerous but a wooden semi automatic hunting rifle can do more damage with a higher caliber. Not mad just using this to vent my opinions
@chaincat33
@chaincat33 7 лет назад
The last knife is good because you stab them once and they're already bleeding out. You can't stop the blood flow because the wound is not knife-shaped. You basically punch a clean hole in them and they won't be able to stop the bleeding.

The knife at the number 1 spot is the most useless blade i can think of... Because of the sheath if you your attacked suddenly it's going to be such a slow draw. Because its screws the whole concept of it is ruined, and do to the shape of the edge its not going to be good as a cutting tool so the sheath will get you killed the shape of the blade ruins the idea of it being a tool, just get a Ron Tri Angle Dagger and it it can doesn't have an edge but it's simple shape means you can QUICKLY unsheathe it and defend yourself and possibly use it as a spike if needed so it has a tool worth too and another bonus is its lighter AND cheeper. Having said that ill go with a small spiderco knife anyday
@strychn9ne272

@cayowinvanderbadt6108

how the hell does it take longer to fix than a disemboweling cut from a standard sword or large straight knife?? That triblade can only stab, cannot cut. So cannot drop intestines onto the dirty floor. So any wound from triblade will be easier to fix than a slash cut to the belly from regular kitchen knife.
@disregardtheconstabulary1276
@disregardtheconstabulary1276 7 лет назад
The major points how triangular daggers differ are: 1.The dagger is wider and therefore makes a larger cavity. 2.As in the #1 dagger, it's got canals and a twist, which will also contribute to an abnormal cavity. The wounds these daggers make are wider and more brutal, however, this doesn't always contribute to blood loss, since edged blades will cut blood vessels and arteries with more certainty and precision.
