hollow points don't cause shrapnel to kill more than one person... they are actually designed for the exact opposite. The flatten or break up within someone to cause as much damage as possible to stop an attacker without killing innocent people that happen to be behind them. They are made for self defense in your home or public so they are specifically designed to not penetrate more than the target victim. Come on now, do your research if your intent is to inform the uninformed with these videos.

As for why they are banned in warfare- The way the rules of war dictate outcome, the overall goal is to put an enemy out of the fight without unnecessary human loss or over the top destruction of human life. A full metal jacket causes through and through wounds without shrapnel. Hollow point fragments that could eventually kill the victim long after he is out of the fight (making its way into arteries- heart) and thus making a medics job pointless and wasteful of time that could be used to save others with less severe wounds. This also is a plus for the force using the full metal jacket ammunition because in close quarters you can put multiple fighters out of the fight if they are stacked in a formation with one or two rounds making it a win win. According to Geneva convention literature forming the guidelines of warfare, every force must provide wounded enemy soldiers with medical to prevent unnecessary loss of life. Digging out shrapnel takes up resources and time making this guideline ultimately useless when utilizing hollow point ammunition. These guidelines are to be followed to prevent war crimes charges and sanctions. Thus wounds from full metal jackets only needing to be plugged up to prevent bleed out the most efficient for all forces.

Hollow points are not illegal, they are used by most Law Enforcement Agencies and don't explode.They were designed to expand and stay inside the enemy combatant. The "mushroom" shape they showed was a fully expanded hollow point and has a very difficult time exiting a human body. It causes severe trauma once expanded by grabbing and lacerating muscle tissue, vital oragns, ligaments and connective tissues. Military ball ammo or full metal jacket is designed to be a through and through on an enemy combatant. It causes trauma but you're more likely to survive the over penetration and smaller wound channel. You're also more likely to hit an unintentional target behind your intended target.

@aaronhollenbeckakahellfire107 7 лет назад
no, they are banned because the bearocracies are stupid and don't know why people would use them. hollowpoints are used because they kill a target more quickly than with ball (FMJ) ammunition. in fact, ball ammo PROLONGS sufferering and pain. ball ammo also is more likely to go right through the target and possibly hit an innocent. they are deadly, but not as deadly to unintended targets. again, ball ammo is what is going to prolong suffering, not hollowpoint.
@nuclearcritics2981
@nuclearcritics2981 7 лет назад
That's not the nature of why different bullers are banned, all bullets are for killing. But bullets which are specifically designed to cause wounds which cannot be (easily) treated are banned because they cause prolonged suffering. Provided you survive a hollow point the effects would be devestatimg and hard to heal. Much worse than a normal ball type ammunition which in most cases can be easily removed

President Obama told Bashar al-assad of Syria to not use the chemical weapons. Obama said in 2012 that his red line with the Assad regime would be the use of chemical weapons. Later that year, Assad's forces killed nearly 1,500 Syrians in a chemical-weapons attack of Ghouta, Syria, during the current Syrian Civil War in the early hours of August 21 2013. Those we're the weapons of mass destruction Saddam Hussein sent to the Beqaa Valley of Syria guarded by the Syrian military and Hezbollah immediately before the American invasion of Iraq ordered by president George H.W. Bush in 2003. Since president Barack Obama isn't the president of the world neither are the signers of the Geneva Convention or NATO. Any country can use any weapon it chooses to because there is nobody there to enforce this so called law. People in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos fall into spike pits yearly. Iran has one of the largest minefields earth along its border with Iraq the same is true with the demilitarized zone between North and South Korea.
@stevekirkham5193
@stevekirkham5193 6 лет назад
Little story about Iraqui mine fields. Seems the mines are timed to let a tank drive until it's halfway over the mine before it detonates. So you take toyota 4x4 pickups, bust out all the windows. Strip the interiors (leaving the stereo systems in place). Mount a stand for .50 machine gun or grenade launcher in the bed. Then you roll the trucks out of a C-130 on a nearby highway, (pickups driven and crewed by Marines who think it's a suicide mission anyway) Insert AC/DC's "Highway to Hell" CD's. Turn the volume all the way up, and drive straight at the Iraqui bunkers at about 100 mph. The mines are delay timed, so the line of trucks is way past them before they detonate. The poor Iraquis in the bunkers poop their pants at the sight of the djinns flying toward them surrounded by fire. Try really, really hard not to wreck or stop in the minefield for any reason.

But that leaves alot of fragments in the wound, which is hard to treat effectively and is very painful. Hence why they are banned in the use of War. Generally speaking, I think most militaries these days find FMJ ammo more useful anyway. Might cause more collateral damage, but it penetrates a wide variety of armors and surfaces with relative ease. Makes suppressive fire more effective that way.

What does that have to do with hollow points? If the marksman is a terrible shot and shoots anyone that's around the target, it does the same exact thing as any other bullet would. Lmfaoo Hollow points don't spread like buck shot once it's fired, it breaks and spreads or flattens very wide once it hits it's target.
@MrGermansheppard
@MrGermansheppard 7 лет назад
don't wanna come off as an ass, but i wanted to correct a few things to the best of my ability and memory 1. i have not heard of a hollow point exploding into shrapnel and harming others, i don't doubt that it can't happen but its not what they normally do, normally a hollow point enters a target and will expand but they won't exit their target which is what they were designed to do, basically turning itself into a disk that can do more damage and remain inside the target which can cause unnecessary suffering if it doesn't kill its target, which is basically why hollow points are banned in warfare, but our police force is allowed to use them because they won't over penetrate 2. incendiary weapons like flame throwers or napalm are still allowed in warfare IF and only IF there are no civilians present on the battle ground, if i remember correctly, but using White Phosphorus as an incendiary device is outlawed 3. landmines are totally legal in warfare except when they are undetectable or don't purposely detonate themselves after a set number of years, in fact our military still uses anti-personal mines like the M18 Clay-more and anti-tank mines 4. Salted Bombs do the exact opposite of what you're explaining, to put into simple terms, a Salted Bomb is like a Dirty Bomb, but its able to effect a much larger area than a Dirty Bomb (in case you were wondering, a Dirty Bomb is just an ordinary bomb with radioactive material that's meant to contaminate an area) think of a Dirty Bomb like Chernobyl incident, a Salted Bomb is just that, but with an added touch of a nuclear explosion which is intention to spread radioactive fallout/material further

yeah, they were WAY wrong about that, (btw only military cant use it) hollowpoint is least likely to go through someone because the muchroom slows it down, it is also more likely to be a humane one shot kill. Normal points are just going to pass through like a needle (well, mainly higher velocity rifles) and might not kill (maybe provide a second chance for the person being shot at but more likely just ending up maimed or living 3 seconds more in pain and taking a second bullet

Hollowpoints are illegal per Geneva Convention rules, but only for military warfare. The narrator's claim that hollowpoint ammunition is illegal for use by law enforcement is factually incorrect. I'm retired law enforcement and can say with confidence that I carried and used hollowpoint ammunition my whole career. They are not designed to kill people around the intended target contrary to what the narrator claims. A hollowpoint bullet greatly expands inside a target, which causes a larger wound cavity than a full metal jacket, in some cases twice as large, albeit quite brielfl. The true purpose is to increase the likelihood of a one shot stop of a threat. Since most officer involved shootings take place at an average distance of six feet, and the average officer fires just a single round to three total in any given shooting, the intent is to stop a threat, not to kill anyone. They don't always work either. In areas where it is often cold people wear a lot of clothing, in multiple layers, which means law enforcement ammunition has to be designed for the environment.

The flamethrower was never outright banned, though it's still a useful weapon and tool, its use in civilian areas is prohibited due to the high possibility of civilian injury. The likely chance of remote detonation by a stray bullet, along with the growing distance between combatants are just some of the many other reasons it's not still in wide use.

@chthulu27
@chthulu27 7 лет назад
Jacob Christeson yes, and the extremely counter-intuitive reason law enforcement in the US uses hollow point rounds is because they insure a greater chance of a fatality, and thus police are trained to shoot to kill if they shoot at all because any attempt to shoot simply to disable is considered intentional maiming, and therefore cruel and intended to cause prolonged suffering. If you must shoot someone, you must kill them, you cannot simply wound or disable them.
@brianvickery4071
@brianvickery4071 7 лет назад
The reason to 'shoot to kill' is where they aim, center mass/torso. It is the biggest area and less apt to miss (which they still do which tells you something). Torso also has a lot of vitals to hit that can kill you. It's not to avoid maiming, it's to avoid hitting lots of people behind the target as you try and hit a small moving target.
@chthulu27
@chthulu27 7 лет назад
Brian Vickery also agreed for simple pragmatic reasosn. The no shooting to wound or disable has more to do with the legal side of the issue. Because it seems like every crook and his brother has some slick attorney who will sue the police into oblivion if he survives and as a general rule, corpses don't really excel at testifying.
@tidefanyankee2428
@tidefanyankee2428 7 лет назад
chthulu27. Ah "no", police are in fact not taught to "shoot to kill". They are taught to shoot to stop the threat. If death occurs then it is, what it is. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. The only police officers that are specifically told to kill are SWAT/HRU/HRT type snipers. I was a cop for more than a "few" years, and your stuff about if you shoot them you must kill them is absolutely false. In the academy I went to our firearms instructor even talked about "pelvic shots" which can disable the threat. I don't know where you got your info from, but it wasn't from a U.S. based police academy. A wrongful death case would cost a police agency FAR more than if the criminal lives...... The reason for shooting center mass is it's the biggest target, and under high stress (which occurs in the overwhelming majority of shootings) it affords the officer the best chance of actually hitting what they're shooting at if the need arises... Hollow point rounds are used because they offer both a better energy transfer because they mushroom and because they don't ricochet as readily as ball (full metal jacketed) rounds which could hit an innocent bystander. Ball rounds are notorious for causing through and through wounds, and over-penetrating walls etc.... You DO KNOW that most people who are shot... live.....right?
@chthulu27
@chthulu27 7 лет назад
TideFan Yankee I know lots of stupid people do lots of stupid things to get themselves shot, I'm pro-cop. My statement was merely an observation of the logistics and legal constraints that put police officers in the position they're in. No one ever makes it into the news for shooting somebody that was a violent threat, there's just an embarrassing lack of knowledge about the factors that contribute to the situations seen in the news.

lasers are illegal, but dropping uranium on civilians is legal ...
@alanbrown397
@alanbrown397 7 лет назад
Lasers are perfectly legal as long as not intended for (or deliberately used for)blinding people. You can punch a hole in someone with a laser, but you're not allowed to target the eyes. The point about most of these rules is that the stuff that's been outlawed was used by someone in the past and the results pretty horrible. One of the earliest bans enacted (about 250 years ago!) was against smearing bullets with fecal matter before firing them due to the infections they caused - and part of the reasoning for banning hollowpoints is because they can act as a bacteria trap during transportation with similar effects (not to mention that some jarhead would come up with that bright idea pretty quickly in the field if given an opportunity...) Most of the bans against stuff that kill or injure civilians are because they tend to persist for years past the end of combat and no military ever goes and cleans up after itself. Depleted uranium isn't radioactive to speak of, but it's a toxic heavy metal at least as bad as lead in its biological effects. When you see kids playing on shot up tanks in ex-warzones (as kids do) which are still covered with and surrounded by the dust, you start appreciating the long term effects that can come into play long after the Big Bad Enemy Leader is a long-forgotten memory.

@alanbrown397
@alanbrown397 7 лет назад
You do in effect. Uranium is a toxic heavy metal like lead is, but depleted uranium burns wildly, unlike lead(*), leading to a dusting of uranium dioxide over whatever's been shot up. Fast forward a few years and you have kids in Iraq playing on dead tanks (kids everywhere play and anything is fair game for being climbed on) and picking up/ingesting some of the dust. On top of that the uranium dioxide that's in the soil affects crops and persists for centuries - effectively each dead tank/whatever shot up with depleted uranium is a miniature superfund site. Tungsten is equally effective, almost as deadly to the crew and isn't a persistent environmental toxin. (*)Military types love this as it immolates a tank crew when the bullets penetrate the armour.

Hollow round bullets can hurt other people? They are designed to give away all their energy into the body of the target, while an FMJ bullet can easily kill 3 people in a row. Also Hollow round bullets cause a shock with high posibility of an instant death. There are lots of controversals about their military use.
@robertgaudet7407

They banned the military use because the 'wounds were horrifying'. I can't imagine it can be worse than what high explosives do to people.
@Deadclown45acp
@Deadclown45acp 7 лет назад
Uh... A hollow point bullet is designed to flatten out so that IF it over penetrates the target the flattened out projectile is less likely to be able to penetrate another. Also if you miss with a hollow point it flattens out or breaks apart and if it ricochets it's less likely to hurt someone critically. They'd more likely get hit with a fragment than a whole round. Most law enforcement agencies use hollow points specifically to minimize the chance of over penetration and the chance of deadly ricochets.

You guys forgot that tear gas is banned as it is considered a chemical agent. Same with white phosphorus with the exception for use for smoke screens. Also a lot of your list consists of weapons discouraged from use, not explicitly banned, like cluster bombs, flamethrowers are banned but the US has not signed it and just promised not to use them. Also fun fact landmines are totally cool to use for war fare if the self destruct or cause themselves to go chemically inert.
@Lt_Voss
@Lt_Voss 7 лет назад
Mines also have to be metal, something about not being detectable being against the rules or something. Fun fact about cluster bombs, though, they are illegal, if you are a signatory of that particular convention from Geneva. The thing is, the global military superpowers, i.e. the US, Russia, and China, are not signatories. My problem with these conventions is that the current wars going on are standing regular military forces against guerrilla forces that don't play by the rules. The "good guys" are almost literally shooting themselves in the foot because they can't even fight with the same tactics the enemy use because it's "illegal" or "unethical".

The issue with plastic mines is detectability after the war is over. Dozens of experienced people get killed every year demining former warzones - and they have all the equipment onhand to protect themselves that civilians don't, As for guerilla warfare: As with all kinds of asymetric warfare, it's almost always conducted with the intent to force the opponent to the negotiating table. The alternative is that the opponent will bankrupt itself trying to fight ghosts. It's the _only_ sensible form of warfare when invaded by an enemy with vastly superior conventional weaponry. (which brings up the related factor that not matter how big your occupying forces are, you can only occupy an invaded country for an extended period if the people living in the occupied country want you there. If they don't, you're going to be fighting ghosts every single hour of every single day and the days of killing off every last enemy man woman and child in order to seal your ownership of the newly conquered territory are generally long in the past.)

Jesus of Nazareth like most stuff said in this "factual" video, it isn't really a matter of it being illegal but more about it being ineffective, when he talks about chemical and biological warfare he points out the exact reasons why that kind of warfare woudn't work well as if the army is retarded and needs rules to tell them that. Landmines aren't effective these days when the enemy is constantly moving its base of operations and doesn't even use armored vehicles, yet they themselves construct makeshift landmines to attack our troops.

There's a bit of a problem with the hallow point section. While, yes they do expand or mushroom out, hallow point rounds do not explode or send fragments everywhere. They remain as a regular "bullet shape" until they hit a soft target. The force of the impact pushes out the walls of the hallow point's cavity then creating the flattened projectile, or mushroomed out bullet. the wide surface area allows the bullet to slow down in the target quicker, more than likely not passing through it at all. the energy dispersion is also much greater creating a larger temporary wound cavity. These rounds will much more effectively stop a single target and put them down with one shot. For a more verbal/ visual explanation, check out GY6's video of FMJ rounds VS. Hallow Points: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-N8hbkXPdlks.html

1: Hollow Points do exactly the opposite of what you said they did. They don't explode and send fragments into other people, and they don't hurt people around the target unless the shooter misses. They go in, and then they burst into a disc, causing them to lose all of their energy and causing severe pain. If a hollow point bullet fragments, then it was poorly made. 2: Flamethrowers aren't outlawed. The only reason why barely anyone uses them anymore is because they aren't very effective. Sure, they're scary, but they can only spread flames through a very limited range. They're more of just a fear tactic, and they became pretty much useless once the average infantry soldier started getting fully automatic or semi automatic rifles.

Hollowpoints are not outlawed in US. In fact, the most popular law enforcement ammunition in the US is Federal HST, followed by Speer Gold Dot, Winchester PDX1, Hornady Critical Duty, and Remington Golden Saber. All of which are potent self defense/service ammunition. The Hague convention of 1899 banned the use of inhumane weapons in international warfare. However, the US never adopted article 4 of the convention, which is the article that covered hollowpoint and expanding ammunition. Modern expanding ammunition is in fact safer than conventional ammunition because it prevents over penetration, reducing the likely-hood of danger to innocent by-standards. US Army is currently planning on adopting a hollowpoint round as part of the M17 service pistol contract.

The shame will be when this guy dies. Doubtful his heirs have the same dedication to preserve all this. The value is it being all together in one place and working.

Sorry to say this, but once you commented on hollow point or expanding ammunition you just showed the world you don't know what you are talking about. Law Enforcement absolutely use expanding rounds ie: hydroshock rounds. They expand in the intended target doing maximum damage and if they do pass through they have lost so much momentum that they are highly unlikely to cause serious injuries to bystanders. The downside for the person being struck with these rounds is they have a tendency to break apart making it very difficult for medical personnel to find and remove all the pieces.

The flame thrower is fuckin useful, Vietnam had many fallen trees and the US soldiers used it to fry the obstacle tree..

As one of the countries that did not ratify the treaty, the United States said that cluster bombs are a legal form of weapon, and that they had a "clear military utility in combat." It also said that compared to other types of weapons, cluster bombs are less harmful to civilians. yeah right

We have cluster bombs, then cluster nukes, then cluster ion cannons. Once we have that, we're cluster fucked

Flamethrowers are not illegal, they just have to be used like napalm and cluster bombs in an area where no civilians are present.

I served two tours in Afghanistan, the private contractors such as CLB and the older Blackwater group used hollow points

In ancient times, victorious armies would, after razing an enemy city to the ground, spread salt over all the farm-able land making it unusable. Hence the expression "Burn it down and sow the land with salt!" came to be. Any weapon whose purpose is to deny the land itself to an enemy is often referred to as 'salted'.

3 sided knifes are also banded because if someone is stabbed with one it is extremely hard for somebody to stitch up and causes suffering
