My car is my best friend and my pet. I bought the 1985 Toyota Supra and kept her for 23 years still runs great without having to rebuild anything at 300k miles when it was time to part for something with utility and seating capacity. I bought the 2005 Toyota Sienna to haul 4 kids around and hundreds of road trips. Kids have grown up, graduated and have careers but the Toyota Sienna is still running flawlessly like new at at 330K miles. Only major components needed replacement were alternator, starter, rack and pinion, timing belts, cylinder #5 igniter, catalytic converters. Because of car shortage, I plan to keep this Toyota Sienna indefinitely until cars become cheap and plentiful again like before the year of 2021.

Absolutely true Emilio. It feels like cars are getting to the point where even an economy car are getting too expensive to buy for many and sadly the value is not always there. Lots of tech but mostly cookie cutter electrics that’s not worth 10 cents to the dollar if you had to pay for the upgrade. Ur BMW subscription services. It’s an exciting time but also the calm before the storm. Time will tell, but many of the older cars really are gems.

Bought my 2015 S550 AMG with 20k miles on Mercedes CPO for $61k in 2018 with a 4 year warranty. Since the car originally listed for $137k I would say some of your depreciation schedules are very optimistic. Quite a few of these cars sell for less than you are suggesting, ESPECIALLY if you are talking about the trade in value. But yes, the S550 has proved an expensive car to own and repair. A luxury car usually stays in the market longer before a major redesign. The goal is the sweet spot where the new car is not as old, but still exciting to drive. The BMW 4 series F33 (2014-2020) can be purchased for $17,000 (60,000-80,000 miles vehicle) with a 3rd party extended warranty. The truth most of the population going to buy a vehicle in the 2nd hand market where the luxury vehicle is old and starting to show its problems. This is why people lease vehicles

I knew you were going to pick a 7 series. However, what if you’re a person who buys the deprecated vehicle at a great deal? I recently paid $45k for a 2019 BMW 740xi long version with the B58 engine, a $95k MSRP. It was CPO until August 2024. I paid $6k to extend the CPO wrapper warranty out to August 2016. That over 4 years without worries and the car will still sell for over $30k in 4 years, so I can recoup much of my original purchase price, but I do plan on keeping. You need to mention to let the dealer take the hit on the Lease, then purchase.
@ECPP

Yes that’s a great buy on a wonderful car. The V8 engines get to be a mess after a few years but that B58 is the heart and should be solid for a bunch of years. Overall a great buy.

I can't argue that AR stelvios depreciate. I bought an 18' stelvio ti sport. Never regretted it. The only thing I regret is buying an extended warranty. Which I haven't used and signs point to won't ever need to use it. I have 60k miles on it, haven't spent a dime. Dealership is top notch customer service. Got with 30k miles on it. Previous owner had no problems. It is not only solid as a rock, I feel it is more reliable than my forester 16'. Thanks for noticing the depreciation. Also thank you for not joining on the bandwagon which is knocking alfa romeo through 1985 lenses. I didn't see anything bad in the first 60k miles. Please don't knock alfa romeos reliability. Everyone knocks it, 0 of those people have put considerable miles on a AR car. I challenge you to get a ti sport or qv. I wouldn't buy one new. I would get one used, just like you and I would.

A shame about the Range Rover. Elegant car. The inexpensive resale cost, even at 3 years, is a red flag. I'll stick with a Toyota 4Runner. Same with the BMW. I've been looking at the Jaguar F type more. The F type R is holding value, when, arguably The four and six-cylinder models are not. 911s are ridiculous. Good video Mark!
@ECPP
@ECPP Год назад
Thanks Thomas. Yes the 4Runner is a great reliable rig and worth driving a long time. The 911s are getting silly but it seems more at the lower cost cars. It seems the newer ones are closer to where the prices should be but 996 and 997 cars were getting silly this year. I did notice even my F Type took a big hit and I got a great deal as a result since I bought it a couple years old. New was 130 and I bought for about 75 CAN. Now prices are holding well so the future may say something else but it seems like the sweet spot is an R or SVR and getting it at about 2-3 years old and buy the extended warranty for piece of mind.

I’d buy a Mazda over those two brands. Also people who are buying these cars really don’t care about resale value too much. I bought an Alfa Romeo Stelvio because I like it and it fits my personality regardless of the cost of owning it. People should realize that if they can’t handle the resale value or if they are on any kind of budget or have any kind of debt they shouldn’t own cars like these anyway.

Cars are not "investments" like property or stocks for the most part unless you are buying a collectors car. Yup there are a lot of lemons out there but my Honda crv had for 11 years at 125k miles and the bottom is rusted out so you never know what your going to get even with a so-called great low cost good value brand like Honda. Looking to step into entry BMW x1 and will probably get extended warranty and hope to keep 6-8+ years with minimal costs and just enjoy it for what it's worth. Not everything is a trade off of what is the most value I can squeeze out of something as opposed to just "living and enjoying"(if you can afford it). I do agree with the cars on these reviews that they are bad so keep up good work - if I do go the route of new x1 please review but looking to get that 6-8 years plus out of it. Thx

A Jag really! Year after year, Jaguar ranks well below the industry’s average in terms of vehicle reliability according to J.D. Power. In 2020 and 2021, it even appeared in the top three worst car brands. As for the Consumer Reports magazine they give it a predicted reliability rating of 2 out of 5. What are the problems with them? Just the transmission, the engine (including the cooling system), the brakes and the suspension. The electronics also tend to act up, especially the displays and the multimedia system. Other than that they are fine...lol And you wonder why people are giving them away on the used car market...I wouldn't walk away from a Jag...I WOULD RUN!
