Amen! You get these folks with different values ( many have zero moral compass) & want to turn our communities into what they moved from. I don’t mind folks moving here but if you left because your city turned into a shit hole , don’t vote for those who would implement those same policies here.
I like this list, but can we add a racism index? I would love to live in a smaller town but I did that once in IL and it was horribly racist and stressful to live there. I ended up moving back to a large southern city just to get away from that.
My observation from living in Georgia is it doesn't matter your race, age, religion or even who you prefer to sleep with. Folks are really put off by a bad ATTITUDE. Especially those from up north or big cities who think they're special and have a chip on their shoulder. Now, if you just want to be like everyone else, even holding doors open for strangers, you'll get along fine.
@@stanhunderwood3374 you are on point, if you come here with the typical I’m offended attitude, this isn’t California, you’ll have a rough time. There is true southern hospitality here but nobody is going to hold your hand.

In 2005 I moved from Los Angeles to a small west Georgia town to attend the university of west ga in Carrollton. Depending on interests, there is something for almost everyone in Georgia. We have areas of hills & mountains, woodlands, farmland, fishing villages, beaches & swamps. We have old southern culture and modern art & culture. There is small-town life, as well as larger cities, resorts, millionaires & celebrity homes, Museums, colleges, sports, music of all kinds, and on & on.
Georgia is a beautiful state and folks are friendly for the most part.but how is the winter months with heating costs? I'm a older widow woman on low income bracket
@LeChina James In Georgia? If so, that could very well be a good thing, considering the news that just came out this week. However, liberals aren't Georgia's biggest problem by far. As for drug use, drug trafficking, human trafficking of which Atlanta is a major hub, it is a safe bet that those involved could care less who is a conservative vs. liberal. Blue collar, white collar, no collar-- for the people involved, ultimately politics is the least of their concerns. Truthfully, gerrymandering and other efforts to keep minorities and the very low income population from voting, and worse, the antics of a former president who tried to strong-arm Georgia's government with illegal actions have been devious efforts to thwart protecting the rights for all American citizens to vote. To their credit, the Georgia government had the integrity to resist those efforts and was able to avoid being sucked in, at least as far as I know. There are pending cases against those who tried to unconstitutionally overthrow the votes in parts of Georgia. The evidence is clear, otherwise, the Georgia officials would not be litigating against the illegal attempted federal crimes. Those documents are available to the public for review. What Georgia needs to do is guarantee equal rights for all Georgians. Otherwise, there is no true democracy for those citizens.
Hey Briggs, you should do something on the best cities for empty-nesters/middle aged people, even better if it mentions the singles scene in those cities 👍

Didn't expect to see my hometown of Bogart that early in the video. Pretty cool place. Atlanta highway takes you right into Athens in about a 10 minute drive
You can't get to the next grocery store in 10 minutes in Atlanta anymore. Traffic is terrible! Athens is 2 hrs away from Atlanta by the car. Sometimes is longer. Alot longer.
Dawsonville is destroyed. Like the rest of GA is being finished off at record speed because people from the northern states can’t stand living there anymore - including Florida. So they’ll do the same to GA by running the cost of living up till they have to pack up and go build a new town somewhere else- probably in the south But the locals lose. Even though some native Georgians get rich, others can’t keep up with the rising prices in their own hometowns. It inflicts tremendous harm on more poor Georgians and should be stopped
Bogart is essentially a suburb of Athens (University of Georgia) where Caterpillar built an enormous state-of-the-art plant a few years ago. Athens is growing outward all around so Bogart won't be small townish for long.
Athens is expanding(mostly westward) just as the Atlanta suburbs are now starting to reach Winder and the western half of Barrow County. There used to be a halfway rural stretch when driving from Atlanta out to Athens. Not anymore.

When my son was 2 years old, our little family loved to visit Cleveland to see the Cabbage Patch Kids being born at Babyland Hospital. Back then (about 35 years ago,) it was in an old medical clinic. My son loved it, and of course, he got a Xavier Roberts, Furskin Bear! My husband and I also loved visiting Helen.
I live in Cleveland, the 1gig internet is not from xfinity, it's a part of the Trailwave fiber optic system, which is administered through the local EMC's. I imagine most of the places on this list get their 1gig from the same source, not xfinity. And it's great! best of all, because it is through the coop, you get a return on your money after ten years because you are part owner in the service.
Electrical Co-ops are the best. I have Walton EMC, much better than Georgia Power, a horrible company. EMCs were set up during the Rural Electrification programs in the Roosevelt Administration. Ours is going big on community solar farms.

Warning: Trenton and Chatsworth are well within Marjory Taylor Greene's (R) district in northwest Georgia. She was duly elected by the people there. Just so you know.
Trenton is a nice place.....but another fact about it is Sand Mountain. It's the part where you DON'T want to go day or night if you're a person of color!!! They STILL have that mindset as the early 1900's!
TBH.... Warm Springs, Manchester, Pine Mountain, Shiloh and several other places in West Central Ga are much nicer and you aren't in the middle of nowhere.

I love the video! I am honestly shocked by how expensive homes cost on this list. Most look great if you want to build, but I need to learn a ton more about that, before it becomes an option.
Everything above Atlanta is Deliverance territory. Interesting places to visit but I wouldn't want to live there. I can't believe the median home prices for those hole in the walls. There are plenty of nicer small towns here with similar median prices. Averages get jacked up when there are million dollar properties next to $60K properties in a town of 3,000 people.
The scary thing for us African Americans is that we have to be careful about moving into some of these small country towns due to racism still being alive….for example Forsyth, Ga is one for sure.
I was raised in Georgia but now live in Los Angeles. I find LA to be extremely racist and Law Enforcement does not have the resources to guarantee it’s citizens safety. I do genealogy as a hobby and some of the most interesting documents I've found are people's wills, they would divide up pots ans pans specific articles of clothing, some of my ancestors were cobblers so they divided up those tools it's very interesting. I did find an ancestor that had slaves they were noted by name age and color , they had specific instructions on how they were to be treated and that they could not be sold or separated, they made specific instructions that they were to remain living in the house, they gave them items of clothing, animals like specific chickens and cows, furniture and money. I found it very interesting being able to kind of look into the past like that.

Gray is not cheap to live in. The public schools are awesome so it's priced to keep out the rif-raf. Also, it's very cliquey. Land can be expensive as well.
Unless you are at least 5th generation born & raised (and never moved away) in Gray- you will always be an outsider. I definitely agree with your "cliquey" comment!

I live in rural Georgia and you never mentioned the actual internet provider in most of them. It is NOT Xfinity. Most of these areas are Windstream areas. Yes, it is Windstream working on putting GB internet service in these tiny rural towns.
Just what I was going to post. Everybody loves to hate Windstream, but they really are slowly bringing broadband to rural areas. Our local EMC just made a deal for them to use their poles. Maybe in a few years they'll get to me.
@@virginiamoss7045 Windstream have provided us with good and reliable broadband service over the last year, which was more than I expected after their poor reviews locally.
