Just guess what games you think will be worth more... this guy is doing no different.. There's nothing to say any of these games will be valueable in the future... and considering the way games are sold, VERY few people will buy a 100+$ physical copy if nintendo is still selling the digital for much much cheaper. Besides it seems like you pretty much buy everything with any real media presence to have 300+ so just continue to do what you're doing...
@@TanakaMatsumoto I have an app that actively tells me the values of games in my collection. For example Devils Third on the Wii U is worth over $500 and thats what its been selling for
@@gamingcrusade3842 300 is a proud number buddy. I just reached the 100 ^^ The Switch will be one of my future focus points as a collector (nothing will top my complete N64 CIB Pal collection though :)) ).
What makes the Nintendo Switch the console of choice to collect for in modern gaming is that: 1. You can play the greater majority of games without ever having to download the Update/Patch if the game has one. 2. You can download Updates/Patches without having the Game Card in the console. 3. The Nintendo Switch is portable, so having the ability to choose between playing the game on the television, tabletop mode, or portable is a HUGE selling point‼️ 4. There is something about games shipping on Game Card (cartridge) versus disc. 5. With developers doing the impossible by making games originally released on more powerful systems, playable on the Nintendo Switch and making them fit onto a 32GB Game Card or less, is what makes those types of games instant collectibles; The Witch 3: Complete Edition, Metro Exodus, and World Z to name a few. 6. Game Card (cartridge) has the potential to outlast disc.

Ive had a question for a while and it seems you might be the one to answer it. When the switch is retired and we'ved moved on to some crazy new thing, will the switch be able to still download the updates to games that needed patches?? Say like pokemon scarlet and violet?
I always think back to 2019 when I got my first switch I would see Torna at gamestop for like $20 but wasn't into Xenoblade at the time. Now I wish I could find it at that price.
Yes! I saw Xenoblade 2 collectors edition on sale at Bestbuy and since I didn’t much care for it at the time I just left it sitting there, smh. I’m a fan and own Xenoblade Chronicles X special edition and just got the physical of Chronicles definitive edition; I wish I would’ve bought Xeno 2 as I’m sure I’ll eventually like the game.
@@lordrikudouzero9119 id look into buying a copy of XC2 soon since it will just keep rising in price. I finally got a physical about a month ago on ebay for about $65 usd
@@lordrikudouzero9119 I remember seeing XC2 special edition for around 160 dollars at a retro store complete, and passed. Then Pyra/Mythra came out for smash which shot the price (and rarity) to 200+ and I was like dang... I was lucky enough to finally get it on ebay for 152 dollars
I remember last year I was surprised to find that Astral Chain was being sold for $60 at multiple popular retailers. A month or two ago, I was hoping to find it for cheaper, but no luck. And this time I couldn't find it anywhere else other than Amazon. So I bought it on Amazon for $60 before the price skyrockets and it's harder to find, because I believe that is what will happen. Btw, I'm not disappointed with the purchase. Even though the combat might be overwhelming at first, it is very fun. The game is also gorgeous. It's like I'm playing an anime action film. Don't sleep on this game.
The trick is to buy pretty much any RPG either at launch or very shortly afterwards - it's much less of a gamble as they tend to increase in value. Some of the more niche RPGs tend to have a period of decreasing prices before skyrocketing, but this cannot be guaranteed. At the moment, I would recommend buying Kowloon High School Chronicles as it seems to be in this temporary dip in price.
Uhm...alot of these games are literally available at gamestops for cheaper then when they came out lol, just saying. Yes alot r gonna be hard to find one day. Just be careful and don't over pay thinking they r gonna be impossible finds. For now atleast...kinda jumping the gun
@JCS thats a shame. I am noticing that companies r not supplying more physical copies of games outside of what's pre ordered. It isn't really gamestops fault. But I get my hands on super rare games all the time from ppl trading them in. I guess I am lucky lol
I suspect 13 Sentinels Aegis Rim will be a rare find as well. It seems like a pretty low print physical run. Lots of people like it but it’s still quite a niche genre of game.
The North American version of Atelier Ryza used to be one of the dream scalper games. Went out of stock in early 2020 and was regularly sold for $100+ on Amazon. Fortunately it got a pretty substantial reprint in 2021 and the price has stabilized back down to around $45 new on Amazon. Still, if you are interested, I'd say pick it up while you can before stock runs out as it may shoot back up to $100+ again.
Is it just me or has anyone not seen a physical copy Bayonetta 2 anywhere in a long time? Not that I actively look for it, I just can't remember the last time I saw it.
After more carefully thinking after your video, I have a few suggestions for the next volume! Grandia HD Collection - PlayAsia Import Edition This is only $50, and the LRG US release easily goes for $100+ everywhere. Trails of Cold Steel III/IV Games are ranging from $40-$60 right now, and have been as low as $25-$35 in the recent weeks. New copies are quite hard to find now, and they will be blowing up soon due to Cold Steel I/II Switch coming soon. Crystar The PS4 version didn't stick around for long at all, and it's now easily snagging $80+ pretty much everywhere. Blue Reflection: Second Light It's much better than the first, and the first cannot be bought for less than $250 anymore. Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD - PlayAsia Import Edition This is the only way to get both games on cartridge, and fans of dual audio can enjoy that as well. It still ranges roughly $50, but when they're gone, much like the Vita copies expect this to go to $120+ easily. If I can think of some more I'll add to my comment!
Bayonetta 2 with the digital copy of 1, Attack on Titan Games, pokemon Double Packs, Final Fantasy 7 & 8 all on the Cart as well as X & X-2 all on the cartridge just a few games i can think of as I wake up lol
Have we seen double pack of pokemon go for that much money before? It's already double price of 1 and the individual aren't going out of stock for a long time.
Pretty much all jrpgs and any horror game hold value for collectors. A few third party games I think have potential for value that maybe people don't think about are Diablo 3, Witcher 3, Skyrim, and Dark Souls. Those games can be had right now for 30-50 but I'm seeing them less and less at retail stores and they have mostly held their value. I don't think they'll be crazy expensive but they won't be dirt cheap like they are on other systems. I could see them being 70-90 in a few years, especially Diablo.
@@Mario123007 I’m aware. I’ve been collecting since 2017. And have a pretty beefy collection now. Like 120 physical and 80 or so digital. The jrpgs I try to get asap because I know they will go out of print faster than say a first party game. Whereas the games that you know will go down in price like Ubisoft games for instance, can be purchased later for way cheaper. And by later I mean like 2 weeks later since they immediately lose value lol
@@Mario123007 me too. I bought that on PS4 on Black Friday for $20 last year right before the switch version was announced. I haven’t even played it yet but will probably just get the switch version. Ya those more niche jrpgs really tend to shoot up in price. Like on PS4 I have cold steel 1 and 2 just the regular editions that I got for like $50 each and because they come with all sorts of goodies they are extremely expensive now like $200 on eBay. It’s crazy.
Yes, it is the kind of video every Switch collector that comes to this channel needs: Unapologetic drivel coated in excessive amounts of obsessive sugar.
@@Mario123007 I gave up on the vita. I bought one in 2019 right before prices skyrocketed and now the games are so expensive it’s not even worth it. My vita is modded so I can at least still access the library without paying the ludicrous prices.
I like to get games before they are rare because then I know I'll have it on my shelf ready whenever I wish to play it. However I'm not a fan of " Buy it now cheap and make sure to keep it sealed since it will be valuable down the line" That mentality... it frustrates me when I hear it. It's similar to scalpers. Why not buy games because you intend to play them? Video games in general is a poor investment compared to other avenues. If I wanted to make money, I would study the stock market and invest, not buy video games and sell them 10 years later for some profit.
This is very true and like you I don’t really ever buy games with the intent on holding them off for a big return in the future. However, let’s say you’ve already purchased and played the “rare” game that may go up in price and you happen to see it again for much cheaper I don’t see anything wrong with holding it necessarily for the future. Like I always intended on buying the physical copy of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Torna the Golden Country for this very reason, but since I waited so damn long to do see the game is asking for crazy prices which I’m currently just not able to justify atm
I loved this! It reminded me that I couldn't find the physical copy of Astral Chain during Gamestop's Black Friday sale. BUT! I just checked Amazon and think I snagged a copy for 62$! Thanks!
Bought the physical Switch version of Scott Pilgrim vs the World at Best Buy for $10 a few months ago. I can imagine that jumping up in price, especially when it eventually gets pulled off from digital store fronts.
Oh I pre-ordered it through limited run. I never got a chance to play this game when it was on PS3 and then the source code was lost for years but I knew there was no way I was missing out on owning a copy of that game.
I managed to get Ys VIII used from Gamestop online for about $55 back in December. It won't come up if you search on the website, I had to go through a secret backdoor from the retailer that took me to the listing. It was crossed out for pre-owned. I ordered it, and they sent me the Adventurer's Edition case and game. I got really lucky. It was in great condition too!
I need to finish XBC 1, X and Torna. I’ve finished XBC2. If they remake or rerelease XBCX I will be mad. Just kidding but I need to finish it on Wii U. Me n my horrible backlog. BD2 is a game I constantly leave on sleep so I can get the goodies to increase everyone’s stats. I love that! I got all the endings but I need to get all the jobs at 100%. Octopath Traveler is one I need to get back to also. I got every character with the Knight being my first. Triangle Strategy is fun. It’s a slow burner but at the same time it’s slowly revealing the cool skills and usefulness of the characters. It’s probably the best strat RPG we’ve had in awhile. Chrono Cross has new features and with the price that it is, I can’t turn it down now. I will admit I’m not in a hurry to play it but I know I will. I await something new with Chrono Trigger. That’s my favorite. Always will be.
Yes! Get these great games! Astral Chain is top-notch awesome. Xenoblade Chronicles 1 and 2 are must-buys. DF2, Octopath Traveler, and Octopath are incredible.
I had a super wierd luck to get my hands on Xenoblade 2. I couldn't find anywhere in my country, but then found a store near my house that had Xenoblade 2 TORNA. I was like "fine, I'll get torna, at least I'll enjoy that..." and then in the store they gave me the regular Xenoblade 2. It was mistake on their site. I was so happy at the moment.
Astral Chain and Octopath Traveler are probably the Switch games I'm most interested in getting at the moment. I may get Kirby and the Forgotten Land too, but it's low on my priority list.
Travis Strikes Again has gone up in price a lot over the past year or so. I also think the Asian version of FFX with FFX-2 on the same cartridge will go up as well. Also just my personal prediction but anything Altus always goes up in price. Lots of the SMT 3ds games are pricey. I think if SMTV never gets a port it will go up in price in the future.
Good video. Still a little triggered Astral Chain didn't sell as well as it could, but it is what it is at this point. I pre-ordered Chrono Cross a few hours ago and currently have all three Switch Ys games sealed. I've only seen XC2 and Torna once, at Target and that was a couple years ago. I didn't get them then but I got both new eventually.
The only games I need sealed is zelda botw. I'm collecting different versions of the game sealed. I have the European version, Japanese Version, botw+expansion pass combo version, collector's edition version and all I need now is the American version sealed which is 40 bucks now. I need to get super mario 3d collection sealed and metroid dread standard edition sealed.
I'm happy to know that I already own all this games in physical form. RPGS and anything from Atlus is always a good thing to collect. They always seem to skyrocket in price.
I agree 100 percent with your choices. The one thing all these games have in common is that they’re from Japanese developers. For some reason those games tend to hold their value on Nintendo’s system.
this list sounds about right. i actually bought octopath for $30 a few months back. so far from this list i have: astral chain octopath traveler Xenoblade Chronicles. i would say Bayonetta 2 its getting hard to find in the US.
I'm gonna throw this out there now, I highly recommend picking up Pokemon Sword/Shield + Expansion pack physical copy. Yeah it's stupid expensive at launch at $90 but I guarantee that this will be one of the most expensive Pokemon game on the switch in the future and perhaps of all Pokemon games if the Switch eshop closes within the next 10 years like the 3DS eShop. It's already becoming non-existent in-stores and only time will tell when it'll be difficult to buy at a reasonable price online.
I did the same things with some games at Target. I got Torna for 12 bucks, Astral Chain for 21( and buy 2 get 1 free) and so many others on the clearance racks. I also did the imports on games like Bayonetta 1 to get physical versions, Dead or Alive Xtreme etc. And those keep gaining value
Idk if I'd buy ys on the switch. Ys origin, ys 7 ys 8 ys 1 and 2 and memories of calcetta and oath in fellghanna (I think those two are remakes of ys 3 and 4) are all available on the ps vita/psp and super easy to get for free. Just for gameplay im not sure I'd sacrifice the smaller size of the vita for the larger and more unwieldy Nintendo switch. And ys origin plays way better with the directional pad instead of using the sticks. I'd say that's a reason to avoid the switch version too unless using the pro controllers
I just got Bravely Default 2 for FREE thanks to Amazon's B2G1 sale this week 😁 Also picked up Stranger of Paradise (for the memes!) and Ghostwire Tokyo
I remember xenoblade torna on shelves for like a year or so every time I went to the store and it was like $30 in store as well.... I decided to get it on a whim one day (even though I never played XC2 at the time, it was sitting on my shelf lol)... Never saw it again. Really glad I got it.
Ps1 copy of Chrono Cross is affordable. But I can see the Switch Play Asia version going for a lot in the future. The limited availability and ability to play it on TV or on the go will cause to to increase in price. I’m glad I ordered my copy.
In conclusion: buy every rpg released for the switch. In all honesty yes there is truth to the rarest/most valuable video games ever overwhelmingly being rpgs.
1 thing I oughta add about the 3 Xenoblade games currently in release: while it won't be a physical copy there is an easy way to get Torna: The Golden Country. If you buy a physical copy of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and then buy its Expansion Pass from the eShop you get Torna: The Golden Country from the Expansion Pass as part of the deal. Just thought I'd add that to the conversation and until next time I am out!
Some of the games you list have become somewhat notorious for having performance issues. Bravely Default II and Chrono Cross HD in particular come to mind. Keep in mind that once the eshop is down, people are stuck with version 1.0 on the cartridge. Probably not an issue if you want to flip a game in the next 5 years, but it will as some point become a big deal.
Some of these games I could just never sell. I wouldn't consider myself a dedicated collector, but I have fond memories and attachment to these. If Octopath Traveler was trading around $1000, you still couldn't get me to sell.
I agree with most of these, one thing I’d note is that if you like the Atelier series don’t stop at Ryiza you should go ahead and pick up as many as possible, there’s so many releases at this point but many of them have held their value so far and I can EASILY see that shooting up in a matter of years. And I’d also recommend just taking a deep dive on Amazon/play Asia to find the really hidden gems, games that don’t even get an announcement on directs and stuff. I’ve missed out on a few Nis America releases too before and those can be extremely limited, one that I was looking at went from $30 retail to now over $200 brand new, crazy, so anything they release is pretty much guaranteed to be not just a fun time but also hold/gain value rapidly. So I wouldn’t even try and wait for sales on those, get them while they’re hot.
Langrisser I & II. I live in NYC, and when I preordered my copy from GameStop, they told me I was the only person in that territory to have preordered it. Only one other location in Queens received a copy. I immediately grabbed a second, as I knew it would be hard to find later. It was $49.99 at launch, a North America copy rentals between $60-$70
I agree with your advice on all the games mentioned. I have been collecting for a year now and i have just over 400 physical games and I have noticed price trends exactly as you described. Now i try to simply buy every "good/decent" game for fear of missing out (fomo).
Just bought Astral Chain WalMart for the full price of $50 have all these games except Chrono Cross. Also I would like to mention that I believe the Prinny Presents Vol 1,2 &3 are gonna go wayyy up new... Keep in mind getting awesome games for profit is nice and stuff but you sell it and it's gone and we ALL know that you will use the money on a Pizza, or a night on the town lol If your going to keep it closed it's great but I feel you should definitely play your games and hold on to them for your collection to show off. You only live once . Happy Gaming!
good thing I already own physical copies of all of these classics and have also pre-ordered the Asian physical copy that includes an option for English dialog of the upcoming chrono cross hd from playasia. ( i hope he mentioned in the video that there are no plans for a US release of that one. didn't watch this video, only skimmed it, so I don't know if he did) games that should have been included in this list? valkyria chronicles 4, diablo 3 eternal collection, and the bayonetta games are the only ones that really spring to mind. im willing to bet that Rune Factory 5 will be added to the list. and I don't go super in depth when I collect jrpgs(even though I really should) but I'm also willing willing bet that games like the trails of cold steel series and the atelier series will become hard to find also.
Funny thing about XC2 Torna, I got it preowned from GameStop and it came with an unused code for the XC2 base game dlc. But after I beat the base game I don’t even feel like playing Torna, maybe eventually I bring my self to play it but not anytime soon. (To give context for my thoughts while I do like some of the characters from Xenoblade Chronicles 2, the story on the other hand killed most of my interest in anything outside of the characters.) And yet weirdly enough I’m genuinely hype for Xenoblade Chronicles 3.👀🤷♂️ Oh well, I guess?
Recommend people check out their local Target for games located on the end cap. I found a copy of Astral Chain marked for $60, but when scanned, only cost $30, and found a copy of Bioshock, which was marked down from $40 to $10.
I know octopath might be in it’s sweet spot right now if you get it used. I think you can get it at about 30 at GameStop. Not that that won’t go up soon. I was mainly saying get it now if you can.
Attack on Titan 2 final battle is already super rare and it's also absolutely fantastic one of Koei tecs best spin off games if anyone comes across it for a decent price definitely pick it up.
I bought Attack on Titan 2 final battle new on a whim for my back catalog, before I opened it to play I checked eBay and was absolutely shocked! It’s valued over $200 opened… so I guess I’m keeping it sealed. Not a lot of people know about it, I’m glad you mentioned it. Apparently it uses a larger gig card so they stopped producing them after the first batch and it never goes on sale digitally. I’m sure it will be D listed sooner rather then later as well.
@@joshuarcole I didn't know that about the cartridge version Ive opened mine but still in Europe it's worth roughly £150 pounds opened which is nuts especially as I paid £25 off Amazon for it but I love it so I'm not selling mine
That is one I regret waiting on. I'll probably just have to settle for digital eventually as I don't see the physical price ever coming down to a reasonable level.
Pokemon Games have a slight edge when it comes to inflation. Square also has a strong footing with their return to 16bit RPG. and Monolith has the Midas touch. My list 10- Triangle Strategy 9- Pokemon Snap 8- Xenoblade chronicles Definitive Edition 7- The Great Ace Attorney 6- Pokemon Brilliant Diamond / Pearl 5- Xenoblade chronicles 2 4- Pokemon Sword / Shield 3- Pokemon Let's Go Eevee/ Pikachu 2- Pokemon Mystery Dungeon (Rescue Team DX) 1- Octopath Traveler
Games you listed that I have: Astral Chain Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition Bravely Default II And even despite its flaws, I plan on picking up a physical copy of Chrono Cross, just in case it becomes an expensive collectors item.
Odd. I must have gotten lucky to grab Asteral Chain for $30 7-9 months ago. I'm absolutely kicking myself for turning up my nose at Xenoblade 2, and it's stand alone DLC when they were on sale two years ago. I only more recently bought XB1 and now 2 is so hard to find.
XBC2 Torna has been in sale lately in Europe. Astral Chain flew in price? Not so long ago it was only € 25,- on most sites. Guess I will buy it the next time I see it around for that price, or just pass on. Bravely Default is like € 25,- now in Europe. Amazon and such.
I have all of those except Triangle Strategy.... only because the shipping companies botched my order of the collectors edition.... sdafasdijohfweasiohfweauihfuio I'm still pissed the hell off over that!
I would suggest ni no kuni the White witch and ni no kuni 2 as well those 2 games will go up in price. I would disagree with his comment with triangle strategy as a tactical RPGs SE may have a low expectation for the game, but TRPG is well received for Nintendo - fire emblem series, deagea and there's a ton on the 3DS.
@@Playeressence I agree that strategy rpg have a lower print run compared to turn based RPGs. the point I was trying to make is that tactical RPGs on the right system may exceed expectations and the switch is the ideal system for SRPGs in my opinion.
@PlayerEssence. European versions aren't cheaper. The Euro is more expensive than the dollar, so that tends to make them more expensive, even if the number is lower. The conversion tends to make most games more expensive in Europe. This is assuming the games are selling at their full retail price, that is.
There’s something I’m assuming about the cartridge format that gains significantly in value over the years.. I’m thinking maybe this is a superior way to game eschewing loading times etc.. Maybe Nintendo has it right?! Then again I could see both positives and negatives to both carts and discs..
These prices must be unique to US. Cause here where i live in Europe, Xenoblade 2 is like 30$ converted to your price and torna is like 40$ brand new. BD2 is like 25-30$ used and 35$ new. YS VIII is like 40$, YS origins is like 15-20$. Octopath is 40$ etc.
I highly suggest that you explore the Japanese/Hong Kong/ Southeast Asian region versions of certain games in the next video because there are many games that have English as a language option.
Quick note about Torna: If you buy a used copy of the game, you will NOT gain access to the Expansion Pack content that comes in a separate download code on NEW copies. For this reason, I would recommend just buying the digital expansion pack that comes with Torna, unless you’re looking to make a profit. As a side note, buying the expansion pass also keeps XC2+Torna all on one piece of software, which I personally find to be preferable.
I have all those physical. A game to look to jump up in price is the Ateltier collection (msrp is 100 just right now) and pretty much any game by NIS (they usually run small quantities).
I got good deals on Octopath Traveler and Bravely Default 2 this past Christmas by trolling through gamestop and best buy online. I also picked up Astral Chain this weekend at a local walwart for 50 bucks and Neo: World End With You for 35 at best buy. They had more copies left for astral chain too, so i'm hoping they have some left next month and i'll pick up another copy that I'll leave unopened. So my advice is troll through the retail websites every few weeks and you might find good deals.
Same I got my copy at GameStop used for $20 no case but I have a case now I got for cheap soon after. Surmising how valuable it is. I had no clue till it shot up when pyra and mythra came to smash
I scored Bravely Default 2 for around $40 2 weeks ago. By the way, I couldn't find Triangle Strategy at all in Amazon or any other store let alone discounted.
I was contemplating this about no more heroes 3 and oregami king when I saw them the other day because I rarely see copies. My local Walmart has copies of fire emblem and I'm waiting for it to hit the clearance isle.
The Gunvolt games are already starting to become a collectors find considering their limited production to begin with, also COGEN is a brand new IP but I can already tell it will become one the rarer physical switch games in the new future.
i wasnt thinking about collector value when i got Torna as dlc....wasnt until much later i realized i made a mistake. oops, glad i have the content, but if i could go back in time i'd stick to physical
