Firstly.. Naturals that don't tie their hair at night...... Sis what is you doing??? I literally wake out of my sleep when I feel that head tie slide off. Lol
I came by to say I've been slipping girl with covering my hair at night 🤦🏽♀️ I just fall asleep these days and I find I started getting too hot at night to keep using the satin pillowcase like I use to, so I got some work to do. Thanks checking us.😏 I'll try to do better.😊
😩 You warned us. I don’t wash my hair in sections. I WASH LIKE BECKY!! I’m TRIGGERED!! 🤣💀💀💀💀 Okay. Let’s negotiate. I like to wash my hair loose like Becky, BUT I condition and twist/rinse before I get out the shower to help with detangling. I’m safe. 😂😂
Mee too!! I condition, rinse with just my head under the shower and twist asap. I used to wash in sections but I hate water and products touching my skin while washing my hair.🥺
Yes. But recently I’ve noticed that there is a white residue that wasn’t there before so I don’t know if it’s my conditioner I use during pre poo or what.
Just a suggestion but try using coconut oil for pre-pooing/detangling on dry hair before cleansing your hair. Coconut oil is what is known as a penetrating oil meaning that is actually does seep into your hair's cuticles going into the inner cortex of your hair. Coconut oil is *not* a good "sealing" oil b/c of this property but it does make it good for revitalizing the hair with healthy triglycerides (a type of fat molecule) that helps protects the hair from physical damage as well as hydro-fatigue. Olive oil is also another great penetrating oil. For sealing oils/products (will only coat, not be absorbed into the deeper layers of the skin and hair) use jojoba oil, caster oil, hair grease, and shea butter. Jojoba oil chemically/structurally closely matches human sebum (the oils naturally produce by our skin and nails), so that along with castor oil due to its heavy texture are my favorite sealing oils. Hair grease (aka mostly petroleum) is also great at sealing hair as well. Almond oil is nice for hair as it is has both penetrating and sealing properties (it's not as penetrative as coconut and olive oil and doesn't lock it down and seal like jojoba and hair grease but it is light in texture and softens the hair. I like to use it to touch up my hair during mid-week refreshes or when styling it in general.
Thanks for explaining the use of coconut oil. It doesn't moisturize my hair (Shea butter does), so I stopped using it. However, because of your explanation I will start using it again.
I've actually had better results using an oil that didn't penetrate, because I need that oil to also help detangle. My go to oil... crisco. The slip is amazing.
You are so right. I'm guilty of most of them. Gotta do better. 4C hair is time consuming but I have to start making a day for it each week and sticking to it. I love my 4C hair though. Very versatile. Thanks for the info Jenn.
I think 4c hair is daunting when people try to do 5 hours on wash day. My weekly wash day is 30 minutes pre-poo, 5 minutes shampoo, 30 minutes deep condition and 20 minutes steam leave in's (this step is recommended by my trichologists) and 10 mins detangle and style in two or three. French braids. If I'm in a rush I skip the pre-poo and leave in steam. Because I detangle every week, I do not have a huge amount of tangles. I also style my hair in a way to reduce tangles.
That's so true 4c hair is a lot of work that sometimes I just wanna cut my hair off ugh. I give birth to a daughter and she have same type of hair as me and she hates when I do her hair doesnt matter if I use detangler spray to soften her hair.
You are reason why I started pre-pooing and washing my hair in sections. It has made such a difference! Wash day is much easier!! Thank you! I also finally got a trim the first time in two years!!! Lol
As soon as you mentioned deep condition, I literally switched the video off, went to wash my hair, and I’m currently sitting under the heat cap with my deep conditioner on now😂 thanks for the tips, I’m guilty of a few of these!!
You are soo right about oiling your scalp too much. I wash every 2wks so only oil my scalp once the night before i wash my hair. During the week when i moisturise, i just spritz. My hair growth has improved tremendously!
All these apply to me, the only reason I let it go on for so long is because my hair has always naturally grown long. Plus i always do crazy styles, cut it short or put in braids or relax it. I never understood my hair or learned how to wash and moisture it (live in a majority white town) never knew what products to get or where to get them. But since I discovered your channel on Monday it really helped me and also inspired me to go for the big chop so I can start all over. Excited to go super short.
Oh you have hair that just grows and doesn't break no matter what you do. I have a friend like that. She does nothing and it grows 12 inches in a year..
Great tips. I started washing my hair in sections 3 months ago which was a game changer. I also took coconut oil out of my routine which did wonders for retaining moisture. Any cream or conditioner with coconut oil as one of the top ingredients made my hair dry. My hair has grown 3 inches in 3 months.
Recently did the big chop and I've been searching for natural hair videos. Type 4. Following your methods and thus far, its working. Currently have deep conditioner in my hair. And yes washing in sections... best thing ever
I feel like manipulation is a HUGE one because I’ve noticed that folks with 4C hair tend to feel the need to conform to other hair types. Focusing on health/moisture and just letting my hair do it’s thing has really allowed my hair to flourish ✨ The first time I big chopped I was doing wayyy too much haha.
I love your personality and your teaching! I am white, but I want to learn from YT rather than asking my Black friends about their hair. I have fine, straight dark hair going to gray and can french braid, but that's about it. I find your hair to be absolutely beautiful, your talent with twists, braids, and other styles is amazing, and I have really enjoyed learning from you. New sub! Thanks! :)
If you are tired of all those steps, take a shower at a separate time than when you're dealing with your hair. You don't have to stay uncomfortable in the shower, wet, tired, with oils from your hair on your back and body. No! Don't shower while taking care of your hair. You'll be better equipped to spend time on it if you're not bugged down by being naked and wet.
Great tips! I'm still learning my hair. My hair was damaged many years ago and it has been a process growing it back. I definitely need a routine and finding the right products to help in the aid in growing it back.
I thinks it crazy cuz I watch 4c growth videos because the sides of my hair is the only part of my hair that’s 4c and it breaks off so easily. Thanks for this! ❤️
I'm so glad I found your video now I know how to take care of my hair. I had going through six big chops in my life. I do put the bonnet on every nightbut didn't deep condition my hair and only washed it with black soap. My hair grew much longer when I had locs vs. having an afro.
The love you have for yourself and just exuding confidence is so beautiful, you know you’re beauty and that’s something to be admired like period y’all can’t tell ha NOTHING y’all hear me don’t play with her because she knows her worth
4c hair is challenging in the beginning and my issue has always been retaining length but I am all about health first so I am not pressed about length. It is just hair to me. I am so so proud of myself for finding a routine for me and dedicating that day to myself. Girl I do my hair, nails, feet thats me time I always dedicate an entire day to me! I do all of these things and I just got a big trim I needed a fresh fresh start had alot of uneven stragly ends with a long ass tail in the back. I told home girl to chop it off and I will let it flow and grow. Growing your hair is always easy retaining length whilst keeping it healthy can be challenging at times. Cut them ends!!!! Sooner than later.Very helpful video. 👏👌💯
YESS YESS YESSS!!! ME TOO! I play music, do my skin care, hair care, mental health check! The whole package. It may not be for everyone, but the ones that enjoy it, its a must! x
@@JennJackson I enjoy it so much honeyyyyy I Iook forward to wash days lol. Going fully natural (I didnt get relaxers but I always kept my hair pressed) is the best, the absolute best, stress free, nourishing and overall self discovering choice Ive made so far and I love it!!!👏👌💯💕
Low porosity hair should always use heat when deep conditioning. It helps to open up the hair cuticles / shaft, so the hair can accept whatever you're putting on it. Also combing your hair while it's still soaking wet leads to breakage. Natural hair is it's most fragile when it soaking wet and extremely dry(dry as in no moisture and or lubrication for the hair strands) . It's better to detangle the hair ( in my opinion and from what I saw a licensed cosmetologist recommend ) when it's coated in an oil that penetrates the hair and lubricates the strands. I've tried this method and have had way, way less hair come out while I'm detangling my hair. I'll comb my hair when it's damp with product in it but never soaking wet. Not anymore at least.
2,4,5,8, and 10 I AM GUILTY🤦🏽♂️ I’ve been trying to grow my 4C hair for 7 years now😅 I switched from a metal pick to a plastic pick. And your video taught me new things I DIDNT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT. Thanks once again🖤✨🙌🏽
I'm guilty of not deep conditioning enough, not moisturizing enough and just being lazy and not caring for my hair as far as more consistent wash days. Ugh! Great video!
Jenn You’re looking so cute! I just started using avocado oil sometimes mixed with castor oil to seal the moisture. When I say game changer! Hair stays moisturized so much longer. I just learned to remoisturize before it gets completely dry too. The breakage has practically stopped altogether! I used to moisturize after wash routine only and my hair would be shedding and breaking by day 3. I swear by avocado oil
I love the channel "22nd century natural woman". She has a tight texture (don't know about 4c, though) and super long hair. I don't believe for one minute it can't be done. But I see a lot of people with 4c hair trimming all the time (dusting, but it's more like taking an inch off every 2 months). That's the reason it's not growing right there. Hair only grows 6 inches a year, if you trim too much, there goes all that growth! You don't have to trim the entire head if you have a couple splits, there is such a thing as the search and destroy method ("S&D method"). You take that split and cut above it, and you go through the hair like that. No need for a trim at all.
Hi jenn ....I tried adding glycerin to my oil for pre poo ....,and GIRLLLLLLLLLLLL the moisture benefits was out of this world You should really try it
I have bald patches over my head due to letting the wrong person do my hair and also my naivety in not knowing how to care for it. I’m intrigued to know what you used to recover your little patch? Definitely need the trim video. I’m halfway to looking like Cynthia (Angelica’s doll) from the rugrats 🤣
Lmaoo I’m sorry to laugh but the Rugrats reference took me out. Honestly patience and care! I wish I could say a specific product but I protective styles and care for my hair weekly! Do the same and you will see results ❤️
Depending on the length and your type of hair. I have 4c hair porosity super fine strands. Once I keep the water and my hair flowing in one direction forward or back I don't get too many tangles. This however does not work for a lot of people. Some do 6 twists in all and some use clips. I've done it before and I don't think it made things harder.
I did that once, before my big chop. It took me over an hour. I am not doing that again. I felt like my arms were going to come off. So I detangle before I wash and when I condition and deep condition. I personally lose less hair that way, but do what works best for you.
I put my hair in 4 sections and detangle in the shower with a detangling comb. Each section takes less than 5 minutes and my hair is long. The trick is to keep the water constantly flowing on your hair; makes it easier to get the tangles out
I'm going to try silk pillowcases because i have comfort issues with textures, etc... I can't keep anything tied around my head without getting tension headaches or discomfort. Light bonnets work sometimes but they slip off easily.
Great video. I’m proud that I follow all these steps AND I’m retaining length. That being said, what brand lipstick and color is that???? It’s very flattering on you.
I follow all except the washing in sections. But I never have major tangles or knots. Maybe because I remove shed hairs daily, keep my hair stretched most of the week and detangle with two seamless combs weekly.
My hair has grown just from leaving it the hell alone lol. She doesn't want to be bothered. I do need to find a good deep conditioning/moisturizer routine for my hair though because it's low porosity and my scalp gets build-up
New here love your content and definitely looking forward to learning more from you!💕 This natural hair journey has a mind of her own & will let you know what she wants and needs if you're paying attention..beware she will come for you if you don't pamper her or give her some tlc!😆😉
I can't be too lazy with my hair. It needs a lot of maintenance. So I only wear these styles most of the time: puff or two or three French braids and/or headwrap.
Same. Same. same. Super lazy, no routine, protective style ie box braids like 24/7. Just do whatever I feel but I leave it alone most of the time and I think it's growing
Jennnn girl!! Read usss lol Ngl my hair is flourishing currently as I reached my hair goal without necessarily trying 😂 when I took out my braids and girl I was shook! Routine is everything. Also this look😍😍
I definitely fall under the lazy category. I felt so attacked watching this because everything you said is definitely me it's so me and I don't know how to not be lazy. I'm new to having natural hair so everything even twist outs is a new thing for me.
Guilty from the first point😭😭this happens mostly when I have braids on, I just get lazy, I literally moisturize once a week not even thoroughly, I'm thinking of taking them out because it's almost a month now but I'm not ready to see my hair🙆♀️🙆♀️not ready to wash, deep condition, trim😑😑I'm not ready for anything, I need a miracle🤭
Excellent video, lady I hit the like button before you were even finished. Looking at eyebuydirect right now, what is the name of your glasses? Yes, I like them that much. I followed your video and started using a moisturizing shampoo and it definitely helps. Thank you!
I head everything and l will practice, but l like the way you talk and those gestures you make just made me subscribe, l want to listen to u even if l am as lazy AF to give my hair attention.
I stop wearing wigs regularly all together and kept my hair loosely wrapped in a satin or silk scarf just to see how my hair reacted. In 6 months I had thicker edges and nape which were already thick. I didn't think they could get thicker. My wig wearing is now once or twice a month and are closures or half wigs I don't have enough forehead to glue down frontals. Lol!
Jenn I have a question about prepoo. I feel like a new natural because I have avoided my hair a lot by wearing extensions all the time. Not anymore with the quarantine! I have low porosity hair. Everything I read about my porosity says to use light oils. The research that I have done on prepoo is mostly heavier oils like coconut and olive.. My question is is it better to prepoo with a light oil because of my porosity? Thanks and love your videos.
I think you should use whatever oils you like... you can start with penetrating oils such as coconut oil, avocado oil, extra virgin olive oil but I personally have been using almond oil which coats my hair and prevents dryness... experiment a little and use what you like
Oh no! Nope I would be bald. Lol! I don't have the kind of hair I can neglect. My natural hair is high maintenance. Lol! It needs a lot of things to keep healthy and retain length.
