Why The Sims 4 often feels like a boring game! *im not wearing lipstick my lips just naturally look like this. Socials - linktr.ee/SatchOnStuff BUSINESS CONTACT ONLY: satchonsims@gmail.com
In the sims 2 and 3 I never designed a house. I would literally buy a random house, put in some stuff I needed, not caring if it looks good. I would put on my Sims the first clothes that looked ok, and never changed it. I was so eager to get into the gameplay that the aesthetics didn’t matter. In the sims 4 I spend hours setting up the game, building, decorating etc, and then spend 5 minutes with gameplay before I get bored.
This is what happened to me with Create a Sim. I spent hours having fun recreating my sims from 1 and 3 to perfection in Sims 4. Then I played the game and I was like, "Meh."
@@the_moss_bossEven the build tools aren't very user friendly since half the time it's so buggy. It makes the building part I usually like feel tedious
Tbh yeah?? It works surprisingly well as a sandbox Home and People creator and barely anyone would have complained if it was a game like this, but actually playing said families is like watching Paint dry
The sims aged down while the players aged up, thats the thing for me. Especially for the 1-2 players who grew up with the burglars, the horrifying sims 1 reaper music and fire screaming. Sims 4 feels like it's treating me like an ipad baby while im just LOOKING at it
@@jessicathompson2914it’s so politically correct and it’s entirely performative lol. every single time a new pack comes out, I wait to see how quickly I find a someone with chopped blue hair that is gender neutral and it takes about 3 seconds at most. They want to appear as squeaky clean and socially perfect as possible, which is not something the sims ever was. Or at least it wasn’t the way they are trying to be. The Sims has always been super progressive compared to its peers but now it almost feels like they rely on stereotypes to say “look how inclusive we are” lol
Never seen anyone say it better. It's odd to me how they targeted a younger audience when loyal players had grown up with the previous games. Talk about not being able to read the room.
in sims 2 leaving my game unpaused meant that some of my sims died, someone got divorced because they randomly cheated on their spouse, children were either crying or taken away, everybody had mental breakdowns all around. in sims 4 they're slightly unhappy
It was fun. I remember I held a wedding In Sims 2 and everyone had to piss and I said idgaf you will get married so everyone peed themselves and someone was crying 😂
I remember leaving my Sims 2 game unpaused and the teen cooking something, causing a fire and the kid falling unconscious from exhaustion into the fire and dying. It's been almost 20 years and I still remember my Sims 2 families with such fondness.
The BEST THING EA could ever do is to freakin play this video on a loop every day in the office until they FINALLY GET IT. Because you NAILED IT, over and over. All of this.
@@user-re7sm2hr9b it's a bit like architects. So many of them love designing and talking about "brutalist concrete" but most of them want to live in a cozy house. One with a soul, and then not a soul that got the house number 666...
@@user-re7sm2hr9b I doubt it's the developers themselves but EA management. They're the ones who decided to cut up all features in to separate packs, making it impossible for the devs to just ... make fun things that rely on stuff being there. Nothing gets to be fun when there's a dumbass in a suit sitting there griping about not making enough money.
In sims 2 my sim broke up with her boyfriend. He didn’t take it well. For about a week, he would walk by her house at 4am and kick over her trash can. I always had to rush to clean it up to avoid roaches. In sims 3 my sim was a serial cheater and got called out for cheating in the middle of leading a protest. All the sims started booing her. I miss the wacky, unpredictable antics. I was going to uninstall sims 4 but my ten year old discovered it and has fun with it.
Yeah, that’s the thing. In older games, you could really fuck things up by doing the most innocent things. I’ve had games in Sims 2 and 3 where one small decision messed things up so badly that I ended up starting a new family lol. It was frustrating, but it was also entertaining.
nah even irl things can affect the sims 2. my ADHD said OOOO SQURREL a few weeks back and when i looked back at my game my sim was dead and her urn was in the kitchen. still no clue how she died cuz i reloaded (it was the start of my legacy so yeah i was like eh it's the start so reload i would have let her stay dead if she had a child already but she was still pregnant) she didn't burn cuz i would have heard the fire alarm. so my only idea is maybe she starved? idk either way i was so confused ahah
In 4 they still knock over the trash can but instead of it being somebody who hates your Sim & it’s drama it’s some random Sim with the Mean trait. It’s like Sims 4 *looks* like a Sims game but it’s missing the *essence* of a Sims game.
i've never completed a sims 4 life cycle. it's just all the same stuff, same choices, same dialogues with townies. and all the fun stuff is hidden in the bunches of $40 packs. there's just not enough replay value!
I’ve actually never completed a life cycle either the most I got when university came out I got a baby to a young adult to go to university and the mom became an elder ☠️ once I got out of university I quit until the next pack came out and repeated the toxic cycle.
the fact that in ts3 i used to play with a family well into their eight or tenth generation without ever finding it boring but in ts4 i struggle to even get past the second generation because all sims just feel the absolute same no matter how much storytelling or diverse traits i try to implement. even an eight sim household is utterly lackluster and not at all challenging, its so disappointing but after 10 years of this bs i've lost faith in ea and am just waiting for other life sims to come out
i think thats a you problem in terms of creativity & play style cus i have plenty of fun playing generations of families. youre probably just not into that type of gameplay.
The craziest thing is I learned yesterday that liberals and conservatives have a lot in common... They're both anti fun with a ton of rules... You're not allowed to think like this, you're not allowed to play like this, you're not allowed to do this xyz... It's tiresome
I think I’ve gotten like 5 generations in before realizing every sim in the family had the same exact hobbies. Whether they were a world renowned surgeon or an A list celebrity or the president, they all liked to garden, and paint, and raise farm animals. There’s only a few activities that are actually interesting to do in the Sims 4 so every sim just ends up being the same person with the same hobbies and a slightly different career. Not to mention of course traits affect literally nothing so they’re especially just the same bland sim over and over
love the section on ts4 being too safe, you covered that so well. nothing is ever surprising or shocking in ts4, it very much feels like an endless beige sludge of gameplay.
I mean to be fair my toilets (unupgraded ones, so no compost) keep lighting on fire whenever my sims use them for seemingly no reason. If that's not surprising, I don't know what is. But yeah for the most part it's all pretty predictable.
The only time I was suprised is when my sim died of playfullness/laughter, but he had of course had his life easily saved by his wife pleading to the grim reaper.
@@salientspoonMy fridge in ts4 also catches fire all the time. But I don’t think it would kill the sims as long as you call for firefighters/put out fire? My sim in ts3 used to be killed by fire when she tried to put out the fire herself
@@user-og8ui8tq3s Yeah it's not going to kill you but it does give your sim a fear of fire and makes them really tense for a couple days which is really annoying. Especially since once they're scared of fire they're more likely to accidentally start them.
When I try to get mods it wont work and it just makes it so I can’t enter the game anymore and I have to go hours and hours just so I can actually click on the game
i want to tell stories but its just so boring... like... i don't want to pretend that a story is happening??? I want the story to actually happen??? I don't want to have to orchestrate everything that I want to happen
@@hunty2500 Great argument, wow! Do you think they never thought about it? They're just stating this because they wanted a better game, not for plain hate on EA. They seem to care tbh.
@@hunty2500 why are you eating EA's ass? don't you want to fight for more? fight for better? they are fully capable of providing more, providing better but they don't. don't accept the bare minimum. I love the sims, and i want it to be better.
@hunty2500 "don't play the game then" "play the older games, then" Honestly, such tired arguments. We want to play new and improved games, not old ones. We want the Sims to IMPROVE and ACTUALLY be fun. We complain because there are so many missing features that a newer version of the game is supposed to have but are not there. No one is defending Sims 4 because its so crap compared to the previous editions. Honestly Sims 4 does not deserve to be defended, especially when there are greedy scummy devs and investors behind this that don't care what players really want and expect out of a life-sim game.
@@hunty2500it’s just not that simple because the problem is most people have already paid for a lot of the sims stuff whether it be game packs/expansions and so it’s not so easy just to “not play” when you’ve paid for it. It’s annoying that essentially ea gives such a half assed product for what you would want it to be
I heard someone say this one time and it made so much sense, the sims 4 is just a dollhouse game. You make your pretty sim and their perfect family and put them in their pretty house and that’s the game. This is so true bc everytime I get on the sims I make my pretty sim move them into their perfect house and then I’m bored and get off 🤣.
the worlds are also so huge but you can do nothing in them. I moved my Sim into one of those horsegame lots and the walkable world is huge but all you can do is sit on a parkbench or choose one of the ten spots that you can fish that also don't make any difference
So true. I think I got as far as one sim having a kid that aged up to teen once, and that's the longest I've held out. I've given up on all Sims games except TS2 now, which I'm actually having FUN playing.
Yeah it's literally that. Nothing happens beyond your own planning and without your consent. I remember in the earlier games sims would get into fights with you or each other. Now I can cheat with someone's wife in front of them and they don't give a shit in terms of my relationship with them. This game really needed events and lifelike townies. They make the game, you can have all the most beautiful dollhouses in the world but if it feels lifeless and filled with robots who do exactly what you want it'll never get fun. It's probably why they market this towards kids. Their rich imaginations will have a field day with a game like this, but anyone older looking for more depth will ultimately be disappointed.
Exactly at this point it feels more like a architect type of game especially when the RU-vidrs they promote for their game only make house builds and not a lot of gameplay at least from what I’ve seen tbh
It feels like a bunch of talented people created a game and then they sold it to a big company, it's like a Netflix movie plot. They watered it down, they made it a cash cow, they slapped people with tiktok culture
I'm surprised they keep adding new death types because I don't think I've ever seen a sim die in this game. I even tried to get one electrocuted by getting him to repair the TV when he was in a bad mood. I had him pee himself next to the TV to create a puddle but he still wouldn't get shocked. Eventually I even resorted to breaking the TV and creating puddles over and over using cheats and he didn't even get electrocuted once, let alone twice which is a requirement for death. There's no challenge in this game.
I had a sim randomly die from an asteroid. Out of nowhere. It gave me a pop up saying get inside & I was like what??? & then BOOM asteroid. I also had the kitchen catch fire 3 times in which another one of my sims died from being burned alive bc the “extinguish” option wasn’t working, none of my other sims were extinguishing. It almost happened again but I paused it & figured out the steps I needed to take to extinguish. & the living room also caught fire. Also all of my appliances need to be repaired ever like couple days. Every time I turn around it’s a spewing faucet or a broken shower. It’s just crazy. I miss sims 2
When I played Sims 1 over 20 years ago, I will never forget when I had a house party and hired an entertainer, a clown showed up went directly to my hamster and stole the entire cage - put it right in his pocket. Then he went to entertain the guests as if I didnt just see him steal my pet. Ive never forgiven and Ive never forgotten. Sims 1,2,3 - Life happens around you and to you Sims 4 - Youre the one who makes 'life' happen Its actually criminal that fire doesnt spread.
I think in my 300 hours of gameplay I've never seen something catch fire in TS4, while in TS2/3 I WAS ALVAYS HAVING TO PUT DOWN FIRES (yes, I was angry at the time, but now I miss it)
Fire spreads, very very very slowly, I've visited people's houses in the Sims 4 and just enjoy watching it burn down completely and them alongside, it takes like 2 in game days though for a small apartment, if only house fires were that convenient in real life.
The sims 4 IS boring though. Their slogan is literally about creating your own stories because they haven’t done any of it! Ts4 was a step way back before even sims 2 which did have stories, drama, proper animation, and engaging sims. The sims 4 is a dead game. Lifeless with no depth or drama
Sims 3: You made a Sim and reached the Emperor of Evil rank of the criminal career? Good luck keeping *anyone* around your sim. Sims 4: You cheated on me with 20 different Sims? Just put a flirty lamp in the room.
The sims 4 is boring and if someone says otherwise they are delusional the game is boring bc there is NO GAMEPLAY NO MATTER HOW MANY PACKS YOU BUY OR MODS YOU INSTALL IN
I recently became the owner of every single ts4 dlc (don't buy anymore ea, pirate it) and I'm amazed that people *actually* pay thousands of dollars for these DLC packs and I'm sitting here...still...bored? *With all the DLC?* What is that?
Tell ‘em about it ! No matter how much money - I spent about $200 and gameplay still was boring ! I’ll never buy another pack but I still download mods because they at-least add something . Mods should be compensated for making the game more entertaining
This was because they had intended Sims 4 to be The Sims Online reborn, essentially, but with the failure of the Sim City release that came shortly before, they panicked and had to completely redesign the core gameplay. Now, a less shady developer would have just been honest about this with the fan base and delayed the launch... But we should all know by now that EA does not operate that way. They just stuck to the original timeline and tried to play it off like it wasn't a total hack job.
@@rebeccalassetter1726 Hey, at least Paradox usually makes interesting DLC for their games. I haven't seen a single recent EA game that's interesting, let alone their DLC.
I hate that everyone I meet in the game is dazed, and it takes forever to get them into another mood, just for them to leave because their social timer has ran out
I'm not really a big fan of complaining for the sake of complaining... but dude, you're absolutely right about everything you've said. The Sims 4 is just not working and it REALLY needs A LOT of adjustments. I think that the main problem is probably the thing you mentioned about The Sims 4 trying SO HARD to be safe and family friendly like dude... most simmers are teens and adults like wth, we want DRAMA, ACTION, CONTROVERSY!!!
The Sims 4 so often just feels like a series of chores. You want to join a werewolf pack? Get ready to make your sim do the same few things over and over again, interrupting other gameplay or you'll get warnings. You want to teach the infants new things? Oops, looks like they've been awake for two seconds, they need a nap. Oh and they've got a quirk that means even getting them to sleep is a chore. You want a sim to have a certain lifestyle? Gotta stay on top of that too! It's just boring. It feels like I constantly have to stop playing the game to complete repetitive and unnecessary tasks.
I feel the same way about the aspirations!! In the other games, you had a lifetime wish: one thing your sim wanted to accomplish that would set them up to be happy pretty much forever once they’d done it. In Sims 4, it’s just another chore list. Not just a goal, but specific steps that you have to complete in order to reach that goal. There’s no autonomy; it’s like they have to tell you how to play because otherwise you might not realize it’s a game.
the babies are literally the worst. especially with the bugs. i tell my sim to feed the child and suddenly they can’t put the baby in the high chair and just do something else. even with sim automation off? then i almost get the damn kids taken away which was the entirety of the storyline EYE had to craft on my own. i remember i was so excited to get the sims 4 (i had never played the previous games) just for this to be what i get in the base version. glitches. nothing outside the home, mostly uninteractable jobs, school, infants, no pets, no other sims, no NOTHING. everything is locked behind a $40 dollar pay wall that you have to pay for everything separately, and honestly, it’s just sad. i’d rather just play minecraft. at least i KNOW i’m building my own story.
What I really hate is that if I go out with one sim, the rest of the sims at home don’t get anything done and their needs go to shit because you can only control the sim you’re off the lot with. In TS3, you could take your sim to the park and everyone else at home will take care of their needs, work on skills, etc. I get that the open world caused lag but it really made the game feel alive and realistic.
Nah, the game would be fine with the open world if EA wanted it. I play TS3 with performance fixes and I can't recall the last time I had lags or drops in FPS. If modders can fix game performance, then why a billion dollar company can't do the same?
11:27 this is so spot on. And it's proven by the newest simmers that has only played sims 4. A while ago i argued with such simmer in their reddit post about why the game feels boring. The title is "I figured it out", as if they said some revolutionary thing that would change simmers opinion... but 10 seconds later after reading the whole thing i really thought "no, you didn't figure out sh1t" It was paragraphs of that person describing their IMAGINATION. They said a bunch of things like "one of my sim is a tomboy, the other is girly despite being twins so yeah sims have personality!" and they blame veteran simmers for complaining because they can't see that... yeah no there's no tomboy feature here jessica, your sim is the same as anyone else's. And jessica here is prime example of EA's targeted demography.
The only time my sim's personality has ever effected anything is when I use the "hot-headed" trait and it's more so they get to angry to do what they need to and sometimes they'll try and fight for no reason.
I think the relationships are so shallow which isn't that fun for family gameplay. I get that there are limitations but eh. I get bored when my sim cheats on her spouse and he's upset yet still has an entire conversation with her. So unrealistic. I think if a spouse cheats then the other sim could initiate the divorce and move out of the house. That would be awesome
I agree... when I play Sims 3, if a Sim gets caught cheating, their partner will immediately divorce them. Best part is, I don't even have to control them, they do it themselves. The AI of the Sims 3 is so much better!
I think it's a great idea in theory, but sims 4 is so broken that even if you didn't want your sim to cheat they might just choose to cheat. Anyone that wanted a generations game might constantly face the problem of their sims cheating and breaking their generations gameplay by constantly cheating. Because you know, the sims team didn't take time to code Townies beyond anything basic. The sims fans have so many great ideas, but the reality is TS4 is so broken that none of these good ideas even CAN be implemented.
i just want things to happen to my sims!! nothing bad ever happens unless you go to great lengths to make bad things happen. i just want some surprise scenarios to happen to spice up my sims lives.
One of my male sims gazed at the night sky. Then he got kidnapped by aliens. He came back pregnant and gave birth to a green black-eyed alien baby. His wife and the sim got a "normal" baby too, but the strange half siblings got along very well. Another sim looked at the sky and got hit by a satellite. At first I was sad until I sold the satellite and got rich (I didn't know about money cheats back then).
@@noelle2661 this kinda reminds me of how my astronaut sim was also gazing at the night sky with equipment then she randomly got hit by a meteorite, and about two days (in-game) later she messaged her wife as a ghost asking her out on a date 😭
How EA is supposed to care if simmers taught them no matter what crap they release people are willing to pay over 1000$ for packs that do nothing. As a teenager I spent happily my allowance to buy sims 3 packs. They were massive. When I saw sims 4 i pirated it, never spent money on this sad overpriced excuse of a game.
The biggest difference between the Sims 4 and earlier games is that the townies are almost entirely designed to be NPCs you occasionally interact with instead of pre-made characters you can play instead of making your own. That does really make it boring, since everything is about one household and you have to work to interact with the rest of the world.
Right, when you start a new game no one has any relationships outside their household and they have no skills and they're all the beginning of their career, how is that realistic? Just another example of how shallow the game is right from the jump
@@kxx8855 I think this is a legacy of Project Olympus and the original plan to makes Sims 4 an MMO. The townies would literally just be NPCs while the people you were really supposed to interact with were the ones with a human behind them. The townies were just set dressing and never got an upgrade when the MMO idea got scrapped.
I use to love how in the Sims 3, Sims would just hook up with each other. I know they have life stories now, but it actually doesn't work, and it has nothing to do with relationships. I can't stand how you turn on 'adopt' a pet and the Sim goes NUTS and fills there house. I've also noticed recently as I micromanage townies as they won't do anything or have kids unless I make them.... the SIMS delete Sims if you have too many. I've had ENTIRE households of TOwnies just disappear. The horse trainer woman... Grove.. deleted from my game. 1 family in Growing Together the star of the trailer... COMPLETELY DELETED! I hate the family tree also! And the INCEST gettogethers you can do is just wrong. lol
@@kxx8855if you create a story like it says to start a new game, you will have a Sim that has a career and skills. I did this once to see how it worked.
@@annekeener4119 yes you're absolutely right, and it's actually pretty infuriating in hindsight that the devs were so lazy they didn't bother to change this knowing the immersion of the world is such a big part of the success of the other Sims titles, especially when you couple it with all the rabbit holes and bugs 😭
EA is so boring up to the fact the modders have to be the heroes aka 'unpaid' workers to help make this game alive. Like, goddamn, it's that embarrassing for a billion-income company to be able to sink this low. 🙈🙈🙈
That's exactly what happened, and I think that this can be legally actionable if enough modders complained about it. Modders were tricked into becoming an extension of this game's development team and tech support without being fairly compensated.
the sims 3 was my first sims game- and I loved it. I played through one of my first sims' entire life, He had a career, he had a wife, he had 6 kids, he had a full life. I spent hours expanding his home and creating stories. I think I spent over 100 hours just on that one save and that was without ANY EXPANSIONS. In the sims 4 I have over 5 packs/expansions, yet I can never spend more than a few hours on a single save. it's so boring, bare, and greedy.
After not touching Sims for over a decade I started playing it and instantly noticed a lot of things "not right" with it. My first try was a generic character, a tutorial for myself to get familiar with the game. Bought the cheapest land in the first world, built the smallest house with all the features to cover my basic needs and gave it a go. In first 5 min I think I met like over 20 neighbors who were ringing on my door, wanting to greet me. On the second day one of them asked if she can come over and stay for a while to which, despite being very surprised by the insanity of it, I said yes. She then came with her whole family which was in ruins so they fought and argued all the time making everyone in the house getting debuffs. Their son kicked the hell out of the trashcans so I got a trashplant plague going. Overall my house became trafficed like an LA highway where people constantly ringed the bell and hung out in my house 24/7. Later that Vampire dude came over and started messing and breaking all the little stuff that I had left. Whats with all those trashcan kicking?! Despite being an honest and hard worker I couldn't pay the insane bill of over 650$ (until today i have no friggin clue why it was sso expensive!) so I ended up in a dead loop - no devices and no water means bad mood and huge debuffs, means no promotion or loan increase, means i can't pay the bills and get my character back into a good buffed mood. All that while my house gets rekt by 20+ people daily. Again THAT is the MOST BASIC and generic start you could have! My second try was in that pet-village which was the complete opposite and is actually a chill and nice gameplay at least for the start.
So true. You can literally flirt with anyone even if they are married or gay and sleep with them and they won't stop you cuz they are made to follow orders like dolls. And it will only take a few interactions. It is so easy and unrealistic.
My very first sim family in Sims 2 were all tragically killed in a house fire, like 20 minutes into the game. You just don’t get that kind of excitement in Sims 4😂
Haha yes exactly what's missing. The randomness, in the Sims 4 you'd get a pop up asking you if you'd say that your family would be killed in a house fire tonight. In the Sims 1 I had so many sims die of burning to death just cause I forgot to put up a fire alarm. That's the stuff that makes it fun, stuff happening to you to which you have to react and adept.
to be fair, one time one of my poor sims who is into politics was protesting outside one of my millionaire families for the cause of simeoleons for all or smth and while she was doing that one of the sims from the rich family set herself on fire and caused a huge fire inside the house to which i couldn't do anything, because i was playing as the poor sim. so now the rich family is tragically grieving their lost daughter lol...
For me it always comes back to the game not being open world, and also big part of it is when I have a plan for my sims life, and she spends half of her day making lunch because she will stand in place alot
I tried to play in a different way . My sim is a male who is a serial romantic. At one point he was flirting with a girl and they he started to flirt with another girl. The first girl didn’t care about the second one, but the second one just accepted to get married with him. Then for some reason she freaked out and started a fight. I made them elope, but she was still angry. Then he asked for the divorce and now she cries and cries. I have tried many times to make her leave, but she won’t. I think I’m going to build a pool and you know the rest. He is always embarrassed because she won’t accept his apologies.
Traits "so un-impactful" is so right. My booklover sims never read unless I make them and that applies to all traits. They want the computer to chat even when they have full social and a houseful of guests, or they just want to dance even though I've given them many different likes and even tried dislike dance. They still dance and don't like it but don't stop. I have to force everything and pretend it's fun. S4 removed almost everything that made TS fun and every time I quit having fun, which is usually when I quit building, I hate EA. PLUS, too safe for sure! It's made for 8yr olds, not teen. Well I'm 71 and have played since 2000 so I'd like at least teen rating lol
In Sims 3 the Sims had great personality. A clumsy Sim had so many different interactions and animations (even dropping the ring while proposing). Sure, some traits impacted gameplay more than others, but my bookworm Sims autonomously read, a neurotic had constant breakdowns, my environmentally friendly Sim got positive moodlets from interactions like using recycling bins, hanging the clothes to dry (instead of using a dryer), riding a bike or carpooling, etc. Otherwise, they'd get a negative moodlet. Sims 4 Sims can have any trait and it wouldn't keep them from interactions or push preferences (e.g. reading a book over watching tv)
They don't want you to have fun...they want you to buy more packs. Sims 4 has nothing to do with being enjoyable. You're meant to chase the enjoyment by spending more money.
Does anybody else remember the statement EA made regarding reception of the Sims4? That if we didn't unquestionably LOVE it, they would not make a Sims 5. They literally blackmailed the community to adopt it, or they'll abandon the game. I think that threat is worthy of a video unto itself.
Sims 3 was my first sims game and so it holds a special place in my heart. My best moment: I was throwing a pool party and a meteor hit and killed four people and my house caught fire. It was amazing. I tried so, so hard to get into Sims 4 but nothing fun like a meteor ruining your party ever happens.
Oh Sims 3 was also my first, I remember the fricking meteors, honestly they were too much sometimes, they wiped out my families various times, every day I had 2-5 meteors. My sims were on the constant run to not get killed and lived in the basement. I think that was something Wrong with my Game and meteor rates.
i agree, Sims 3 is a certified hood classic. esp the Seasons expansion pack when your male Sim can just be randomly abducted by aliens and he returns pregnant and gives birth to an alien baby lmao, i even got the chance to either keep it and raise it as my own or return it to the aliens
I've played all 4 sims games and a moment that always stuck out to me in the sims 3 was my politicians' "killer" fundraiser party. Never invite 5 vampires to a single party because they always arrive hungry if not starving. At each party I always call all guests for a meal to keep them happy and content. Not the hungry/starving vampires before they had finished eating and could get some plasma the first vampire died setting off a spiral of all 5 vampires dying one after another of starvation due to the usual death shenanigans the only survivor of those 5 was the one who had the unlucky trait. The game still called it a fantastic party despite the killing of more than half of the invited guests. The Sims 3 could be weird like that.
Without mods or your own doing nothing happens in this game. In the Sims 3 (i barely remember Sims 2) there's so much going on you forget about your own Sims 😂
I was playing sims3 for the first time, took my kids to the cemetery to search for rocks and i ended up finding out i can just remove graves from the mausoleum??? Thats literally robbing graves and i love it
Plus you didn't have the SAME Sims everywhere you went! If you went to the park in 3, there were specific Sims, and then you could travel (without load screens) to the library and see *other* Sims, not the same ones from the park. I'm soooo tired of, for example, Nancy Landgraab jogging down the road in Oasis Springs and then when I go (with load screens, sigh) to Willow Creek, there's Nancy Landgraab....again...jogging down the road. I know I could use Carl's mod to limit the worlds to only Sims who live in those worlds, but considering how empty and shallow The Sims 4 is, that isn't much better as I would hardly see *any* Sims then.
@@ravenlord7144 The Sims 3 being open world was one of the greatest things about it. no unnecessary loading screens just to view another community lot. you can pretty much spy on your neighbors and see their own personal lives taking place
TS4 needs a HUGE update where they make it into an Open World update...EA doesn't even realize that the reason why Simmers call it boring bc the neighborhood is barely interactable. Its the uncanny valley/liminal space effect where the map is so big and yet you are confined in a space with lifeless npc with no stories
You perfectly described my attitude to TS4. It is utterly, utterly lifeless and no matter how much I try to create interesting drama, the game frantically puts it back to boring 'happy' Stepford Wives mode. I keep going back to TS3 which has such interesting gameplay with brilliant behaviour animations, traits, and so much more.
Watching Plumbella’s Sims iceberg makes it so obvious how lacking in storytelling and depth the Sims 4 is compared to the Sims 2. It was actually so depressing to watch😂.
When I played the Sims 3 and got the Nightlife and vampire pack for free because of a deal I had SO MUCH fun. I could have one sim at home cooking, another at work, one at a friend's house, and one at a club. Instead of having to go through a loading menu every time I wanted to switch locations, I had all the sims in my arsenal and could do multiple things at once. The nightclubs were really fun and there were also celebrities that you could talk to in order to make your sim famous. Don't even get me started on vampires. They had super speed, cool red eyes, different traits and conversation ideas with them, and more. Compare this to the sims 4. I can only control ONE sim at a time. If I have a sim at the club that's the only one I can interact with while my other sims are frozen in time. If I want to do anything else I have to go through a loading screen. So instead of doing multiple things I just take all the sims with me so I can play with all the sims at once. Instead of being able to see what my neighbors are doing through the camera and popping up at their house like in the Sims 3 I have to go through a loading screen and hope that the neighbors are there. The only thing that the sims 4 does better is the CAS, which can easily be by passed with mods.
I'm a creative and I love to make stories with the Sims 4, but too much control and the lack of random wackiness do make the game boring most of the time.
There's also a lack of incentives. In older Sims versions you would get different car pools depending on how you progressed in your job and you needed to visit downtown in order to buy clothes.
I loved getting a sewing machine and having my elder Sims make the younger Sims their wedding gowns. 🥹 Having to buy/make the clothes made them matter.
I remember every time a new expansion pack for The Sims 3 came out, I'd take the time to read every household description in the new world to get into the lore. Now, everything feels so EMPTY, empty of lore, empty of stories. EA is doing the bare minimum and it shows.
talk about excitement lol, sims 3 never failed for its descriptions, i still have the original dlc discs and even the package feels more exciting than any sims 4 dlc 🥲
I still Play Sims2 even tho its old af but i still get to find new random things that happen in this game and i'm never bored... I just started to Play Sims4 and immediately got enough
@@LivenUp7 I'm assuming u mean there's a setting to turn it off or on? I ment the get famous thing where you get a pop up when your sim is at work to either end up fired or promoted or change nothing but it dosent pop up much n I think your sims has to be atleast 1 star and have the fame perk under the celeb serum (can't remember the name lol) but if there's another way pls let me know
13:38 - To be fair, they’re not blind, they can see how much we’re shitting on the sims4 (rightfully so.) I have played the Sims since the sims2. I am autistic and it became my absolute special interest. I have so many issues with this game for most of the reasons you have listed so far, especially when it comes to: this at this point is an INVESTMENT. EA has created a system in which they genuinely understand that we will buy regardless because right now there is no competition. They understand that no matter how much we bitch, they have certain deadlines to release by, broken or not, and I genuinely think that has been their biggest downfall. I would much rather wait longer for more gameplay, or better interactions. I literally can’t keep doing the Strangerville Mystery over and over just to feel like my sim actually has some sort of purpose other than to essentially be a Barbie doll. I have invested easily $1,000+ into this game, and I still feel that we are lacking SO MUCH than what we were in previous games. I used to be able to make a sim, their house, with a cat, and not feel fucking exhausted afterwards and get off the game.
Well, while playing ts4 I thought that maybe I was too old for it. But then I decided to play ts3. In 4h my vampire sim died (as I forgot that hunger k!lls them), so I decided that my other sim would obtain a ginie lamp to ressurect them. It worked and I got the ginie in the household, he wanted to be a criminal, ok. After some time he got arrested and another sim went to free him with the drill that I have no idea where they had gotten it from. There are so many unplanned things happening in ts2 and ts3 while playing, but sadly not in ts4.
This! I fondly remember a save in ts3 where the grandfather randomly got abducted by aliens and got pregnant. Shortly after having the child, he died and my sim and her boyfriend (Moritmer) needed to care for the child. Totally unplanned and not the way I was planning to play the game! I think the story progression is what ts4 is missing. You have to force events to happen, they don't come naturally too often.
I recently started trying to play the sims 3 on a newer windows 11 laptop. Sadly it doesn't work well on windows 11. But in my short time playing, I made a sim who was a paranormal investigator in Midnight Hollow. She went to the home of some ghosts to carry out a career task. During the task, the mother ghost went into labour and my sim took her to hospital. The ghost came out of hospital with a non-ghost child! I assumed it was a bug because I was in the middle of a career task when it happened, but it made for an amusing story.
@@kateschmid2889 funny enough thats not a bug, but actually a feature of how genetics work in the game. The baby can inherit the supernaturalism from their mother or dont, if the father is a normal human.
Lazy Duchess has a lot of mods for the sims 3 to work better on newer pc's :) It totally saved my life. Especially the Alder Lake Patch @@kateschmid2889
I wanna be able to stalk other sims, harass them, be able to have actual stories record about my sim and stories with other sims they know. SIMS CREATORS NEED TO WATCH THIS
You're so right about there being a lack of depth. I only seem to really look forward to my game when, say, a kid is about to age up or someone is up to some romantic mischief or if I've created a restaurant or lounge and I'm anxious to see it in action
I hate the loading screen so much that I avoid the texts from friends asking me to come over and I also avoid using high school years because of the loading screen. It’s shoved in my face so much that I’m not using 80% of my packs. The most I use of my packs is in the house my sims live in.
One time save and go to manage worlds froze on that loading screen. It still saves, but now I have a new fear of the loading screen. "Your sim has a fear of loading screens, in the social menu try asking EA for reassurance" ... "It seems talking to EA made your fears worse, lol now you have a festering grudge toward EA" "Your sim wants to break up with EA"
I once tried to create my own world with my own townies. i made a bunch of families so that all the kids could grow up together in the same neighborhood so that they could grow up together and interact more authentically cause they would have known each other their whole lives. but it got so boring because it would take so long to load each house and getting them to know one another was a long and difficult process. i stopped playing it, then all these packs that would go with my town came out and i thought about going back to it. but the game is TOO SAFE. not enough wackiness to really pull me back in . :(
the other day i spent seven minutes trying to get two sims to get on their respective horse and stay on to get both ready for a ride. they just kept getting off after two seconds to slip in dog shit or get a glass of water - something so simple shouldn't be that hard. after i had finally wrangled them onto their horses and told them to go for a ride so i could vicariously have a nice social horse ride, they beautifully rode after each other, it was scenic, serene, gave me serotonins ... and then they immediately went along different routes once they were off the lot. also, some time my sims were sleeping with their newborn in the same room when suddenly an angry paparazzi *came into my house at night* and stomped right up towards the bedroom. my first thought was "oh my god, he's gonna murder them all cause i sicced my dog on him earlier for being a paparazzi" (or at least brawl them) but then i remembered that i'm playing sims 4 and nothing that intriguing would ever happen.
Talking about "Death by mold..." That clip just looks so... childish, so... unrealistic... Ugh I just hate that they've made the Sims 4 like a Sesame Street Show...
Egh, I don't mind it. Sims has always had weird quirky stuff. Cowplant is a good example. I like that stuff. My elder squeeing like a child tho over whoo hoo with his partner is a bit childish for his in-game age. Because the game was designed for the young adults life stage and everything else is tacked on, that stuff is kinda stupid.
I had a couple of friends that I played the Sims 3 “with”. We used to call each other and talk about things that happened in the game. It was better than gossiping about reality tv shows. One friend in particular had so much drama and crazy things happen in her world that it used to take hours to talk about what happened over the weekend. 🤣🤣🤣
Still remember when three kids died because of a meteor strike at their school. I was playing/talking with my brother and we were shocked for days lol. Random horses and pets running around.
I regret wasting $20 on the base game of Sims 4 a few years ago, since they literally just made it free. I also regret wasting money on 6 of the DLCs, just to make it feel somewhat like an actual game. EA owes me at least a kiss on the cheek.
Sims 3 is a laggy mess but it’s because it has so much you can do ! Sims ambitions, Sims Late Night, Sims 3 Pets and Seasons are my absolute favorites ❤️ Those are the only packs you really need to have a great time. Arguably, Sims 3 base game is all you need to have wonderful gameplay and DRAMA. So much is always happening and the traits, lore, and open world keeps me going back! When Sims 4 was announced I completely ignored it knowing that it couldn’t compete 😅 Edit: SIMS 3 UNIVERSITY is also ELITE for storytelling ❤️
I am of the opinion that the Sims 5 should literally just be the Sims 2 with updated graphics, maybe also with the open world from the Sims 3 (although that eventually made my Sims 3 games a buggy, laggy nightmare). I agree with everything you said, the Sims 4 is a mess and I get bored with it so easily, and the game-breaking bugs that they don't care about are so frustrating. I hate the Sims 4 wants and fears. Bring me back to the good ole days of the Sims 2 when my sim both wanted and feared having a baby. Bring back the drama.
Sims 2 was definitely the best in terms of gameplay for me. Loved the life goals and short term wishes and fears. The thing that really improved in sims 3/4 is the building options for me. So if they could just combine the gameplay of 2 with the build mode of 4 that would be great for sims 5
Considering that Sims 3 was released 2009-2014, while Sims 5 will be released in the second half of the 2020s, it personally don't think that an open neighborhood is likely to cause similar problems. Overy few people will play Sims 5 on the same PC they played Sims 3 on.
I really really just wish they remade the Sims 2 with the building mode and CAS of the Sims 4. I have to give it to them, The Sims 4 has the best CAS and building in the series.
i'm a cartoonist, illustrator, and graphic designer. sims 4 is what i go to when i wanna test out some ideas i have for characters or locations, if i need to visualize a fleeting idea that i like so i don't lose it. sims 2 and 3 are what i go to when i want to play a computer game. (usually sims 2 since i have the ultimate collection, but either way lol)
Honestly I completely agree with you, I never seem to be able to stick to a story that I try to create about my sims and also a lot of times forget my original plan for a specific sim and I get bored easily and just ditch a save just to a few days later start a new one in an endless cycle and I never understood why until this video
Plus they completely shat on the lore. Instead of expanding on what the first 3 games did, they were like nah Sims 4 is in an alternate reality so none of that stuff matters
tbh someone made the connection from the Bella lore, sims 4 was made this way to show Alexander (which we see a book he wrote in sims 3, when he shouldnt be alive yet) went back in time to save his mother and sims 4 is Bella now being alive. Not sure who did the thoery but its pretty cool take
@@yomamafatasf you do know EA is the main guy they dont make the sims right? Lindsey is the boss man so she makes the final calls for the sims games. It is funny when people think EA themselves make sims 4, no its a team inside EA the only thing EA does is rush the teams they dont give a rats ass about storylines, that is the sims team which Lindsey is the head of
I feel like Lifestyles should be a thing we choose for our sims just like traits, to influence your sim in some way. I don’t like how lifestyles are just thing that feel like they randomly pop based on things you might not even be intentionally doing with your sim’s daily life.
I love the thought you put into this video and the points you've made. I always wanted to love Sims 4, but I've sunk the LEAST amount of hours into that one and I attributed it to me getting older and just finding the game boring? Seeing your video made me remember all the things you can do in Sims 2 that were like a fever dream to me. I honestly forgot a lot of it. TLDR: I couldn't agree more. I appreciated your video. :) and man, I miss what The Sims used to be.
@jaymarie8065 that's actually such a good point that I never thought of because I NEVER READ THAT STUFF but someone took the time to write it. And... what a waste of time and resources.
I truly believe THIS IS their marketing strategy, marketing is a great deal of knowing to use consumer psychology. it's boring because people will buy to hope it will help, when it's just the right amount of new to feed that dopamine like yay new stuff but ends up being boring after a week then you feel that need to buy another pack and it's the same exact cycle.
This is literally so spot on. I wish they would see this and really take this in when making sims 5… i need sims 2 storyline, interactions and interactiveness, sims 3 game packs and game play and open world and sims 4 build and buy and cas in one game plssss
My biggest gripe is that it’s too quick and easy to progress. Within an hour or two you can go from homeless to married with kids and living in a mansion. It should be 10x more difficult and have way more real life struggles to work through.
agreed. call me old fashioned but i love the realism of Sims 3 and how it would take several generations just to save up enough Simoleons to buy a nicer and bigger house in a more affluent neighborhood. i'm weird for being too lazy to download mods and cheats, but for me personally, i like working to buy what i want lol
I remember when sims 3 was first released. We were all complaining about how underwhelming it was and all the features sims 2 had that it was missing. Little did we know…
I absolutely agree with your points. Also, back on relationships, I feel like there's no lore at all. For instance, the Caliente household in TS4 implies that Don is involved with Dina, Katrina, and Nina, but when you jump onto the game, they're all friends with each other. There's no romantic web at all, compared to Don having 3 lovers (+ 1 crush) at once in TS2. Granted, the game is meant to be in a whole other timeline (hence why Malcolm Landgraab is a teen while Bella and Mortimer are adults, even though the three of them are children in TS3), but that screams laziness more than anything imo. I went back to TS2 during Covid, and I honestly don't regret it.
I personally find the sims 4 boring because i find it too easy. I got my family to go from 0 sim dollars to 2 million sim dollars in one life stage purely by working and selling crafted items. My starter sim has now mastered every skill, completed several life goals, has nearly every unlockable personality trait and it’s just like … what now ? It’s had zero impact on her family or the world around her
7:32 for me is when I added mods. My character destroyed society in many different ways lol. Serial cheating has deathly consequences, crabs are running amok, jail is a second home, cps has my characters number on speed dial, addiction is destroying homes, Jason and Michael are running smoke and Tina peeping won’t stop woohooing the grim reaper. Mods are what’s bringing me back to this game. Before then I wouldn’t touch it for months only to play for 10 min and get bored lol
thank you for putting into words why I never was able to get into Sims 4. I tried it few times but it was just so BORING. I always come back to Sims 2, been playing it on and off since 2009 lol.
I installed sims 3 to give it a try. In the first 20 minutes of gameplay [apart of the 2 hour CAS that I enjoy] my sim was made fun of by an other sim dressed as an alpaca, a portal opened on my lot to the future with her toddler, I was taught to fly with a jet pack, bought robot parts, and I met my sims future children [not all descendants liked her]. The amount of random craziness that came my way... the amount of things I could do on the new location... chefs kiss.
@@charlez9295 its sad people wont touch a game just because of graphics this is why gaming is dying. people care more about the game looking pretty than the gameplay that's why we are her disappointed with sims 4 now because devs chose looks over gameplay.
I still regret buying all of those packs and kits, I've spent too much money on it to just uninstall it, the only reason why I even bought those packs and kits was because I wanted the new things, also their gothic collection is severely lacking, and the furniture needs a massive update, nothing matches!!!
A major flaw of The Sims 4 is that there is no attraction system. Along with the sims having no personality of their own and you having to decide what they do next in their lives, you even pick their partners for them. That is so boring. I want to play with sims that feel like people, not dolls that I give My personality.
I like the fun I've had playing the sims 3 more than the sims 4. My sim was getting married to her husband and during the ceremony THE GAME TURNED THE GROOM INTO A ZOMBIE. In the end the wedding party failed, my sim was upset, the guests were disappointed, the fiancee was a zombie which I was scrambling to cure. It was hilarious and unexpected, it was more memorable than any marriage event in the sims 4. Another highlight was the Grim reaper accidentally having CC on and being a completely void black human with noticable abs and bleach jeans. 😂 I was like hot damn Grimmy, is that what you're hidding under that robe!
As for Grim, its an actual sim in the game, so after a good while playing, he would be able to age up and the game replaces him with a new one. Thats what potentially happened here for you.
I have a similar story. As a kid when I was playing TS3 I had this random idea for my Sims to get married in bathing suits. And when they were about to share their first kiss as a married couple, I got ready to take a photo cause I was so proud and then a zombie appeared right between them! I was so mad I remember I nearly cried that the zombie absolutely destroyed my perfect wedding party, but it was so hilarious I had that picture saved for a long time
@@relash1345 i love the Grim Reaper. he would just come collect my dead Sim's soul, sit down at the TV to play video games afterwards, but when it's time for him to leave, MF breaks my TV LMAO
They dont even punish you for staying inside for too long, I remember in sims3 I HAD to go outside sometimes and explore just so my sim wasn't upset and going stir crazy, I remember getting to have my sim kids hang out behind the school playground, I remember repeatedly doing those silly pet quests in sims3 Pets Sims 4 at this rate I just play it to design houses and play with werewolves And caring for the kids is just annoying now One thing I HATE though is that I cant just load my game and if they're meant to be at school/work they DONT GO, and then my sim suffers because they didnt attend while in my sims 3 they'd automatically of gone if I switch to them
oh man i love how in Sims 3, there's just a law-enforced curfew for children and teens. if children are out past 11 PM or so, they don't really need a police escort. they just go home automatically without adult supervision. but teens actually get caught by the cops and your adult parent Sims can lecture their teens about staying out so late. it's so realistic
Also there’s a thing that makes me annoyed: when the job starts at 8:15, my sim was supposed to be leaving home at 7h30 BUT THEY TAKE AN HOUR TO SIMPLY GO TO WORK. Example: they are taking a bath at 5, i send them to take breakfast and they just smile for the walls for 30min while the action is waiting to be done. Result? Always late for work 😍😍🥰
Great video! Another thing is the weak incorporation of ‘fears’. Related to the personality and aspirations, the sims in Sims 2 would have fears that you actively had to try and prevent; similarly, you would have goals that would give you aspiration points. In sims 4 it is too easy to gain points and buy rewards; and very little making it challenging. The sims team literally just needs to incorporate more fears (and goals) related to sims’ personalities and more randomised drama/risk (e.g. enemies creating chaos on your lot, relationships weakening more easily, sims randomly shoving you for spying on the neighbourhood, burglars, sims with autonomy doing more things related to their unique personality traits, sims with low social getting a visit from the social bunny, getting fired and getting visits from social workers more frequently, and more agency from townies) I would also appreciate if they closed off the different worlds a bit more, and keep certain townies from certain places, as if the worlds were more physically further apart
