I remember that thumbnail. That was Owen posing with the title before his match with Bret that aired on Sunday Morning "Action Zone" back in 94. Great memories.

I wouldn't mind if Owen had a quick run with the WWE title after that lumberjack match, go into SummerSlam and drop it back to Brother Bret, and maybe retire after that. But he was great value in the tag division with Bulldog, the Hart Foundation feuding with Austin and the Nation against DX, so scratch retiring after dropping the title.

I never realised how far in advance Daniel Bryan’s heel turn was teased Claiming he’d cash-in at WrestleMania only to cash in on Smackdown and later successfully at TLC 2011 Cashed in on a downed Big Show to become World Heavyweight Champion (quite heelish for a babyface at the time) 😃😃😃

They count that as an actual reign tho as for these aren’t considered to be actual reigns due to the reversal decision

No Antonio inoki, WWE literally called him "an unofficial wwe champion" when they were mourning about him in October this year just after announcing his death and he held the title for like a week before vacating it due to no contest draw after inoki's rival tiger jeet Singh interfered. And the company booked backlund to win the title in msg but pretending he was defending his title

That match wasn't reversed, just ignored. Inoki won the title and gave it up voluntarily.

Antonino Inoki winning the WWE Title is a legendary story. WWE never official recognise Inoki as WWE Champion, however after his passing in the Summer, Corey Graves did acknowledge he did 'hold' the WWE Championship in 1979 after defeating Bob Backlund. It still surprises me DiBiase was never recognised as well. He even defended it on the house show loop after Andre sold the title to him, and even commented about hold the belt in the recent book: ''The History of the WWE Championship'' which was published by WWE Books. I look forward to the belt being defended individually again, its the richest prize in pro wrestling.

In April 1996 on Superstars, Savio Vega actually beat Goldust and won the Intercontinental Title but due to some controversy at the end of the match, the IC title was vacated and they had a rematch the following week which Goldust won thanks to Austin's interference.

I was at a house show in Winnipeg Canada in the summer of 1997. The Headbangers defended the tag team titles against Los Boricuas and lost. We thought we had seen a legit title change and the place went nuts. Then another referee appeared from the back and reversed the decision. They announced he had seen on the monitors in the back that there had actually been a disqualification and ruled as such. Of course this was not televised therefore there’d be no monitors to look at, but hey…WWF right?

When undertaker faced rvd, after the match restarted when undertaker won he was announced as "new" wwe undisputed champion, not "still" wwe undisputed champion. Always made me think rvd was legit recognised as wwe champion if only for a few minutes. And ric flair said "continue" the match not "restart" the match.

Actually I think survivor series 1994 would have been a good opportunity for him to win the championship. Bret Hart did push for Owen to win the title but from Owen he felt he wasn't ready for it.
