1) I no longer ever have to use a food bank, but can donate and volunteer at one instead 2) If I'm really sick, I call-in to work without worrying I won't be able to pay my rent. 3) I was able to pay for a substantial emergency vet bill for my dog

i was thinking along the same lines. if one is taking action on their finances, instead of letting their finances happen to them, they're in a better place than most. not judging, because i was once like that - just paying the bills and spending remaining on stuff i thought i needed. it took the pandemic and working from home, to make me make the time to look at my debts and where my money was going. doing a budget is a real thing.

The one about not losing sleep over money really hit home for me. I remember a time when that was very true for me. It’s been a while. I grew up in a single parent household as the youngest of four kids. I doubt if my mother had ever gone to sleep not worrying about making ends meet. Now, not only do I not have to worry about money, but I help my mother so she doesn’t have to. Thank you God.

Love to see people of color more and more doing financial videos and podcasts. This is such a great list because you did not give exact amounts or numbers or percentages that everyone needs have exactly to be on the right track. It can be so intimidating to hear the money gurus spew precise numbers to show you are succeeding. Your way leaves the door open for many more people to feel like they can walk through that door to financial success.🦋💜🦋

I have a friend I grew up with. He is super rich. I made $47k last year. One day we were riding bikes all day together by Santa Barbara. All of a sudden he said “Joe, I like the way u live your life You live in a tiny home You travel the world you ride the best bicycles in the world And u have a good time.” I was stunned. He has 10 employees and is very stressed About all the legal things that entails

@@PInk77W1 wooow we both make exactly the same amount, granted like your friend I'm seeking freedom but not to the point of having employees. I invest every penny which is about 80% of my income since I live with my parents. I recently cleared out my trading account since I reached the goal I wanted, now I sitting on 50k+ cash to buy my first rental. Even though I'm doing the best among my friends I feel I so behind even though I flipped 4 homes making 15 an hour 2 years ago😂. I'm doing everything possible to retire early college was a super waste for me since I had to pay back so much!

I've worked 12 years to reach this point. It was a long, hard haul. I've now been in this golden position since January when I ended my no spend/low spend year for 2019. That year was my final hard push to reach this financial peace of mind. It is possible! Not easy but possible.

Married couples definitely need to be on the same page financially. For us, we talked about finances every day for a year until my husband felt comfortable talking about money, expenses and income. We had a set time, sat cross legged on the floor facing each other and talked for 30 to 40 minutes. It is so important. Now we don't have a set time, but discuss it when it comes up. It actually has brought us closer together. My mom trained us when we turned 10 to sit down and pay bills with her for a year. We practiced writing checks, marking statements paid, tracking them on index cards (pre computer), balancing a check book, and filing the paperwork. We also matched receipts to statements to make sure there weren't any mistakes. I am so grateful that she taught me how to do this. I find mistakes on my statements all the time. So important to be diligent about this.

I recently got a nail in my tire for the third time. Most places won't repair a tire after the third time, so the sales guy started to tell me about the tires they have on sale to replace that one. I asked what the tread was like on the remaining three and he assured me they were fine, but I really needed to replace that one tire. I didn't want to have a mismatched tire so I went ahead and replaced all four. Moral of the story, it felt good being able to do that and not have to dip into savings or swipe the credit card.

A lot of us really don't know how to live within our means. We purchase expensive, unnecessary shit trying to impress people that could care less if we're alive or dead. I like nice things, but guarantee I'll purchase them when they're marked down. I would go to the store and see something I like at full price. I would go back couple weeks after and the same item is selling for way less. Be patient and shop smart, especially if it's not a necessity.

Great video! I recently had to spend $700 on car repairs, I put it on my credit card that has 0% interest until February 2021. It is so nice knowing I can pay the bill without worrying. It hasn't always been this way for me, I have struggled and made it somehow. We live below our means, so that in the event something unexpected comes up it isn't a problem! One thing I have been doing for nearly 2 years, is writing down what I spend everyday. It allows me to see where my $ is going and where I can make changes if needed! I went from making $17 an hour to being on disability, so yeah I am frugal.

You should be teaching at Wharton. Most of the people who give advice on social media assume that the listener can buy gold and silver or invest. But many of us can't do that. I find that if your house is paid for and you have a satisfied deed at the courthouse that you can weather the storm especially during this pandemic when the money is funny. I like your tip #8. Because each year I like to have all my debts for the year paid in full for that year so that I can begin planning for the next year. And given the fact that this is a pandemic and anything could happen in the world of finance and economics, it allows me to approach 2021 without trepidation. As I said before you are doing a great service for the American people. I just hope that they listen to what you have to say. God bless you.

I beat myself up because I am not there yet. Even if I do probably more than most financially. I am using a little of my emergency fund. Because I just started back to work. So I will have a salary soon. Also I am still receiving money from the goverment because of the pandemic. So I do this. But it will end soon. I think the worst financial mistake is to own a credit card and do not pay fully per month. How much you could have earn if you would have invested it. It's at least seven porcent a year. This year is so weird. It's like being stuck in a movie. Sometimes money keep up at night. Because I have a goal and I am wondering how can I be closer. I did go around my town last month. We do not have the same money worries at all. If you are not sure were you are in your finances or goals. I would recommend you do this. It's a wake up call. If I argue I prefer to not receive the money from my wife at all. Yes this is the worst about a couple. But I want things to be fair. I think it's a great video to know your progress and where you are financially.

One of the best decisions I made was to downsize to a smaller home. I am completely debt free including mortgage with a healthy savings and investment portfolio. I have passive income as well as still being employed. I am definitely barista FIRE. However with that being said, I live a very simple lifestyle by choice. I no longer have the desire to chase money. Money for me is nothing more than a way to have more options and maintain my freedom. Given the state of the planet and the US and what we are doing to the environment, being a mindless consumer no longer appeals to me.

I thought I wasn't doing good financially but then I thought more about it and realized I am doing pretty well. This video just confirmed it. I have debt, but I also have savings and said debt is at a low interest rate with credit counselling and I had to use credit because I lost my debit card (again) so its not like I COULD use my debit card. Thanks for the video and the confidence boost! I pay my bills when due (except credit card. That is paid when it gets close to its max way before its due) because I would forget its been paid already lol.

Very great points and reminders! Would you talk about how big of an affect personal choice plays in whether a person is financially healthy or not? I am not talking about the people who live in extreme poverty, but the people who actively choose a 600 dollar car payment over a 300 dollar one simply for status or other reason and then complain about not having money.

I was forced into early retirement but have always been fuguil and worked low paying jobs when I first started off. I was ablele to save 200,000 in an annuity. And sad enough cash to live off for 2 years. It's been 3 years and I haven't had to touch the money. I own a. Car that's 2 years and have never borrowed money other then for property. I get survivor benifitss and I had pension that I was aware I could have drown off since I was 50. It's a life time pension so I use that money for traveling and savings accounts for my grandchildren. I also pay myself 500.00 a month first. I don't owe anyone and my credit score is 840.00. I have always lived like I have no money, besides giving money to my church. I don't worry about money because I recall when I was 20 I said when I retire I want to be able to live off 800.00 a month. Believe it or not my house payment is less now then it was when I bought my first house. Yes I pay my utility bills 3 months in advance. I also never lend money. I did that 2 times and I never got a penny back. I don't have a college degree, but my son has his doctrine and daughters have masters. I raised my children as a single parent off a low salary union job. When I turned 58 I got a job pay me six figures and lived like I was only making 25,000 a year. Bigger is always better but I bought my last home when the market crashed and sold my 5,000 SF home for a smaller 3500 sq ft home which only left me with a very small mortgage. I think people live beyond there means and don't pay their sales first. I do have 2 pensions and a retired fund.

I have just watched the 10 signs and the only one which as alluded my wife and I is the 10th. No one as asked us for advice. No credit cards or loans have made our lifes that more stress free. God knows if we drank or had to find the money here in England for tobacoo.Buying our house over 30 years ago as made life so much more simple. My neighbor next door rents his home and pays the same amount I pay for everything in my day to day living.. This is not me beating my chest only to say by listining to sites like this Light is at the end of the tunnal.

being in a good place financially is good, but it shouldn't make you complacent. i got to where i am financially by being vigilant and even though i am comfortable financially, i remain vigilant. comparing yourself with someone else never works out, since there will always be someone doing better financially than you are. the ultimate barometer is your own peace of mind..

Also being financially health includes having your affairs in order. Health insurance, flexible spending account, disability insurance and a plan for a health crisis. After being diagnosed with breast cancer my medical bills and copayment were very costly. I don’t think a lot of people anticipate or think of how those things, such as medical bills can have an impact on your credit and finances.

Every week and month I do a financial review, at the end of each year (Dec 31) I look back and see how last year's excel docs compare to this years, thought my debt may have increased some, my income nearly doubled, my savings/investments have quadrupled, and most items on this list apply to me - including paying for some expenses due to a foolish mistake my sister made...

I don't check all of these. I do however have a nice emergency fund. I can usually throw half my paycheck into savings. I have no debt but also a low credit score. I went through bankruptcy in the 00's. I haven't let myself accrue any debt since then. I am saving for a new car in two years and am looking to start investing for retirement. It's funny how once I achieved my emergency fund goal I stopped feeling like I had to spend it. It was super hard to resist my savings when I only had 3k in it. Now? I don't touch it. Thanks for letting me know I'm doing better than I realized.
