Nathan needs to chill with the perfectly timed content! He's been doing videos on the exact topics I want from JLV. I can't help but buy the pdfs. Great stuff!

Nathan Saw you in Austin, thanks again for being so nice (you were so incredibly nice (even though I said I don't like alto sax, and that I liked the sounds of Tenor better) ) non the Less, you guys sounded amazing. Have fun in New York , and Be safe.

Great Video, appreciate the detailed explanations of every choice you made in these lines. I wanted to discuss the groovin High move, I think its based on the flat3 dim as well, which you called a passing diminished. You can not only use it downwards, but use it in both directions connecting 2nd and 3rd degree. 3rd degree can function as a sub for the I. So actually you can play in the ii V I in C like this: D-7 Ebdim Cmaj, Clifford Brown played this often, Ebdim is the same chord as B7b9 in the Groovin High move, thats what I wanted to point out. We learned this in Barry Harris' class

With the Coltrane sub can you do this if the rhythm section is comping a ii-7 V7 I? Or the walking and comping must do the Coltrane changes too?

@@Steakfinger I'm kidding around. I'm playing off the fact that as far as i can tell sax players usually have a higher degree of theoretical understanding, and that it is more than my slightly jazz flavored RnB brain can handle. I've started poking around saxophone youtube channels as it seems there is some cool info out here that is less common in guitar lesson vids :)

my guitar teacher once referred to guitarists as "the village idiots of music theory" lmao. it's true BUT IN OUR DEFENSE the guitar is a weird instrument a lot of things about it make no sense it's hardly surprising we're confused!
@Steakfinger
@Steakfinger 27 дней назад
@@MrAwesomeSaucesome I know loads of sax players that know very little about theory. Guitar is weird, but what this guy is talking about is music, not an instrument. It’s all mental. Music is in your mind, not your fingers. The instrument is just a tool to get the ideas out.
