+AvengerXP Neither is acetone if you have any idea of our metabolic cycles, nor hydrogen peroxide if you've ever taken a biology class... ever. Citric acid especially since it's the second (major) step in glycolysis (for most cells) and respiration, which high school biology should have taught you, i could go on here, but why bother lol.
@BullStengthTheories

I laughed SO HARD at the Kreb's Cycle comment. I had to study it for the millionth time in A&P a few weeks ago, now again in Biochem. I texted me friend saying, "I don't care how many times I learn the Kreb's cycle. I hate it every single time." Glad I'm not alone 😂😂😂

+Nate Conn sour is bitter moron
@georgelaidlaw3748
@georgelaidlaw3748 8 лет назад
***** Nope, they are distinct flavours with seperate receptors and seperate purposes. Basically bitter tastes indicate poison or at least it did hundreds of thousands of years ago. That's why things with a strong bitter taste are awful unless you are used to them and bitter foods tend to always be an acquired taste. Sourness, on the other hand, detects acidity which is useful for telling if certain foods have gone offf etc. Sourness tastes sharp, tangy and well like the flavour you get from eating the flesh of citrus fruit. Bitterness tastes earthy, burnt, unpleasant and is accompanied by an an urge to spit out whatever you have in your mouth (at least until you get used to it in a paticular food or drink). Sourness tastes sharp, tangy and can be pleasant or unpleasant depending on the strength of the flavour and what accompanies it. Often sourness is used to complement sweetness in various desserts or, of course, naturally in most fruits.

@ToxisLT
@ToxisLT 8 лет назад
+al whits there's not that much to tell about DMT, not because it's not interesting, it's uber interesting, it's because due to the &^*(*#&$(@ war on drugs, science is unable to experiment and understand these compounds. One of the very few experiments done by Rick Strassman, was written about in a book and a documentary called "DMT, the Spirit molecule". And that's about it... Thanks war on drugs, for stopping not the use of drugs, but only scientific inquiry.

+Coppertunes The fibres get transported there from both your underwear and your shirt, by your belly hair. Apparently, you have grey underwear, or a colour that blends with your shirt to turn grey.

@LuaanTi
@LuaanTi 6 лет назад
+Coppertunes Not grey in my experience, though it's certainly preferentially dark. But my guess would be that the colour is rubbed off differently (ever got blue legs from your jeans?), or is deeper in the shirt (the lint comes from fibers rubbed off the surface, dyes are deeper). It's not like the dye changes the colour of the cotton - it just coats it. What you're seeing is the colour of "clean" cotton.

+Silverizael In the video he mentioned that studies have shown that prolonged exposure to formaldehyde led to increased chances of getting cancer. Since he also said that small amounts are produced by the body, I was wondering if you could get the same prolonged exposure through the build up of formaldehyde in tissues. The reasoning being that cellular processes had broken down due to some unknown factor.

So... If DMT is found in our body, could that possibly be responsible in part for our dreaming? And the less DMT found in us at a given time could dictate things such as the vividness of the dream, and how likely we are to actually believe that we had dreamt the previous night? Sorry if I just made people facepalm, just a curiosity.

+Daniel Harrow Well, that is what it actually is for. Or, at least, as far as we know. www.erowid.org/chemicals/dmt/dmt_article2.shtml So far, we have at least partially documented the release of DMT in R.E.M sleep. It releases in small amounts that give us the non addictive trip we associate with dreams. Also, as a bonus fact, apparently it releases in massive quantities when we die, causing us to go on the wildest trip a human could go on. So die happy. It's kinda important. But, although it's been proven, we can't truly know until we die. There's been some theorizing around the whole death thing, saying that when it releases when we die, that's when our soul, our consciousness, whatever, is flung out. I kind of believe this, but being a teen and all, I'm really just experimenting with beliefs. Either way, I wrote an essay on it that could totally change the way you think about this stuff because I back what I say up with facts. It's cool, and if you wanted, it's right here. docs.google.com/document/d/1RUCDoJB0-GQJjInok-XZxlSdV0sDzr46LXZulmiDn50/edit?usp=sharing

You should do an entire episode dedicated to DMT. I'm very curious why this powerful psychedelic is made by our body since there isn't a clear answer to it. Also want to know if it's harmful since it's an extremely illegal substance

+Pierce Connors DMT is a simple molecule very closely related to tryptamine and therefore tryptophan (one of the twenty-two key amino acids needed for your body to function in general). Tryptamine exists and is also mildly "psychoactive" and the dimethylated analogue would logically exist due to the methylating enzymes that your body produces to methylate specific compounds. Occasionally, stuff goes past it like DMT. It is illegalised by the US government when they blanketed all psychedelic compounds as it was closely related to insurrection and protests (and hippies) back in the 70s... what with the Vietnam war.
@SoulDelSol
@SoulDelSol 7 лет назад
Pierce Connors it's similar in structure to serotonin and melatonin. but legal status =/= safety. you'd have to look more into history of drugs in America to understand war on drugs
@udtheaesir

It's not harmful in the least. Blame the DARE program and the war on drugs for that bad rep to psychedelics in general.

Acetone does get used in the body, through detoxification in the liver it can be converted to precursors that can be pushed through gluconeogenesis... however this is slow so a lot of it is exhaled or peed out due to it being very volatile are easy to escape the body.

+Seth Winfrey The reason people get the munchies is basically this. What most people don't know is that THC, the active ingredient the smokers are looking for, breaks down into a god awful mess of different compounds with different effects and different half lives when it actually gets to your liver (If you thought the Krebs cycle was bad, you don't want to memorize those, believe me...). And some of those act as appetite enhancers.

There're a lot of cuts and edits. Each cut comprises of about 1-3 sentences. So even if they don't use a teleprompter, they'd only need to memorize a few sentences per cut. Lots of youtubers do that. It's people who can go on for 15-60 unedited minutes, for example TED-talk presenters, that are script-memorizing beasts.

Could you eat just super-compressed food for the rest of your life? ie: take a food and put a ton of pressure on it until it's in a cube/spherical shape. Also, would it make you feel full, or would you feel hungry the whole time? And would you gain lots of weight by eating it, or would most just 'pass right through you'?

+Alama Joradon My guess is because it's mostly diluted at that point. The food and saliva dilute it enough to prevent it from doing any damage outside your body. That is not to say that it lost it's acidity though. If you ever had a painful burning feeling in your stomach, you know how dangerous it is when stomach acid leaved your stomach. It is not a nice feeling and the acidity is definitely noticeable.

I was kind of hoping runner's high would get mentioned with number 9. Since a really fun endogenous cocktail of psychoactives is involved in the phenomena; there's opiod (those endorphins you hear a lot about), stimulant, and cannabanoid action going on to get one in a pretty awesome state of bliss. ... I bring this up, mostly since I've come to appreciate the experience a lot since I started exercising in September last year. It's a nice treat, in addition to the dopamine involvement, and making HPA axis function more healthily (the system of hormone production involved in stress- one reason why exercise can help take the edge off anxiety). (Also have some idealogical/personal reasons not to take exogenous psychoactives in a recreational context... sans caffeine. So that's another win for me going for this sort of experience.)

Maybe DMT is produced while we sleep as a byproduct of our brain (and the rest of nervous system) "cleaning" itself, removing the waste, hence found in cerebrospinal fluid. But since it's a powerful psychodelic, it stimulates some sense input processing centers in the brain, therefore dreams occur. Basically like naturally dropping acid while sleeping.
