Hey guys, welcome back to my channel. I am Maria, a Romanian lady living in Denmark for over 7 years now, and today I want to share the top 10 things I needed to get used to when I moved to Denmark.
I get asked a lot about how life is here, what differences I've experienced compared to my home country, how are the people, etc, so I made a little list with some of the most significant things I have noticed so far.
Denmark is a great country, but like any other, it has its little challenges and differences that you need to adjust to in order to fit in.
If you agree or disagree with anything I have said, don't hesitate to leave a comment. I would love to know your opinion on these 10 things. And if you are danish and you think I said something wrong, please correct me.
Thanks for watching, for being here and for your support ♥
PS: there is a typo in the 7th thing I mention in the video - it was supposed to say Danes don't like to brag**** not danes to like to brag xD

Omg Maria 😂 I laughed so hard when you said back in Romania they would pray for you (and you did the cross) because it's the same in Greece! Hello from a fellow Greek RU-vidr in London! 🥰

I am impressed by how well you describe the Danes and life in Denmark in as short a time as your video lasts. You mention many things that I, as a Dane, would like to nuance and explain, but I also generally agree with you in your description, so BRAVO!

Very interesting to see as a Dane what other nationalities remarks here. Some of the things you mention, we really don't notice ourselves. What I like about travelling is seeing such differences.

Personally I think the pastries in Denmark are superb, actually the bakeries in general, in England we call pastries 'Danishes'. The times I've been in Romania I did find the standard of bread pretty good too, so maybe you've just been spoilt😆
@MariaMtm
@MariaMtm 2 года назад
haha, I'm not saying they are bad, but the variety of tastes and textures is lacking a lot compared to Romania xD I like some of the pastry here as well, but it doesn't come close to what I used to get back home. :(

I really agree about the bakeries. We used to have nice bakeries with a lot of choice, but that culture has died. It is sad.

Number three: I think the number one reason the Scandinavians are so relaxed and content is that we trust our fellow citizens. Yes, sometimes there will be someone raped or robbed, but it is really rare and we feel really safe. We don't really fear that another person on the street will harm you. If you lose something like a phone or a wallet, there is a big chance you will get it back.

Number 8: After having watched so many videos of foreigners visiting Denmark, this is the first time I've ever heard someone complain about the lack of pastries in the country. It's like our thing. @@MariaMtm Right, after having googled around a bit I might have an idea where you are coming from ("pun" not intended), but it really just seems to be a difference in the types of cake and not _necessarily_ the amount of diversity. Indeed, as you mention in the video, many cakes you can buy at bakeries and what not have marzipan (and liquorice? idk what bakeries you go to, but sure) but again that seems more like difference in taste. It also seems like that is more of a 'thing to have to get used to' specifically from a Romanian point of view, and not just any and all "foreigner", as you might inadvertently suggest with the title, though I will grant you that places like France and Italy as well as others, might also get up to a lot of cakey stuff too. And I haven't even mentioned that fact that depending on where exactly you are in Denmark, the cake culture might be very different, for instance, in southern Jutland with the _Sønderjysk kaffebord_ or on the island of Fynen with the Brunsviger etc. Sorry for writing a novel, but I really just felt like there is a bit more to this. ;)

Tell me that you don't know anyone living in small appartements in old buildings, without telling me. It common in appartements. I've have seen it done in Aalborg, Århus and Copenhagen. City appartements, especially in old buildings have a very small hallways, if any. So its common to have a shoe rack outside the door. It may not be legal, but common.

It's illeagel to have your shoes outside your partment. Especialy if it's on the stairs. If it burns you have to get out fast and then you could fall because of the shoes so no. You may not do that.

@@MariaMtm OK. you are at 5. floor. It burns in the building. The fire are on 1. floor and you have to get out. The people at 3. floor got there shoes out on the stairs. You can't see them and fall. Maybe you are a farher carring your children and fall down the stairs. Now the people from 4. flor get out. They don't know about the shoes and not about the father so they fall as well. Thats why you may not do that. Try to enter a room of smoke. You can't see anything and you are in panic. So no. Don't do it. And if. You can get problems with the company who got the apartment or the kommune since it's those who make the rules. So don't do it

No, noone leaves their shoes outside! 4 Water from tap is way better quality than bottled water! 6 Weather, we have beautiful days all months, and we really appreciate those days! 8 Pastries, we have more than I could ever want?!? But yeah, maybe less sweets than other countries... 10 You have to be 16 to buy beers.... 15 for having sex.

@MariaMtm 2 года назад
Hey, Martin 🤞🏻 The video is made based on what I've seen during my 7 years in Denmark, and my experiences are not necessarily going to match yours. With that being said, just in my neighborhood at the moment there are plenty of houses with tiny fences/no fences and without curtains. It's a very open space, and if someone would want to, they could see everything 😅 I'm not saying everybody has it this way, but the majority I've seen is either lacking one of even both. And the thing with the shoes I've seen quite a few times, especially in Viborg. It was funny for me. 😁 Very weird to see it, but yet again, danes trust each other enough to do so. Pastries, yeah.. nothing to add here. It's lacking a lot. But this comes from a person that grew up with a super wide variety of pastries, cakes, tarts, strudels, etc. Denmark has some as well, but very little compared to what I can find back home. Anyhow, this video is not made to shame or emphasize on any of the aspects. It's just some of the stuff I've seen while living here. And it's funny/different and sometimes weird, but 100% worth sharing. 🙌🏻 Thanks for watching and for the comment ☀️
