I'd also like to mention that there's a really strange narrative going around about Reaper being "too complicated" for new users to get into. Never understood this misconception. Yes, it's a VERY deep piece of software, but getting common tasks done is really straightforward and in many aspects simpler than with many other DAWs. Just get started and gradually get into the more complex customization stuff. It's well worth it and fun!

That's exactly it! I started with Reaper because I actually found it simple to use (remember, a track does anything). Then when I needed to do more advanced stuff (or even some still "mid-simple" stuff), I just looked around the web... and found Kenny Gioia (and Jon Tidy, and Adam Steel). I just learned Kenny's being paid by cockos, so Reaper actually has a built-in "learn me" function, on the internet. I think I can now do advanced stuff that I'd probably take many more years to learn on other DAWs, just because there are SO MANY tutorials around about Reaper. You don't get just the DAW, you get the community and the learning environment instead of paid (and expensive) company support, and that's a big plus in my case.

Thanks for that note of encouragement. Yes, pun intended. I had a fair amount of struggle getting started with Sonar/Cakewalk back in the day on Windows XP, then later with Logic Pro on a MacPro. As noted "getting started" was the struggle, which after a short while is overcome. I believe the idea of "push button simple" has come about (and is here to stay) from the instant gratification/get rich quick/[fill in the blank] for dummies media which has saturated the internet landscape - and shut down most people's brain and their ability to focus thought for any reasonable, sustained period. It's incredible how easily people fail to recall or even recognize the fact that it took them thousands of hours or several years to reach any level of proficiency doing what they do for a living (or even hobby), whether that be playing an instrument, voiceovers, or speaking a new language. Have a great day. All the best to you in your present and future endeavours.

I started in the 80's using cubase on an Atari ST. About 10 years ago I started to use Reaper - mainly due to cost and it's stability and super low resource footprint. I've never looked back! Great channel, earned a sub!

Even though I’m not a hard on Reaper user, I do like this DAW. I’m a Pro Tools user primarily but I’ve had to use Reaper and other DAWs in certain situations and Reaper’s stability and rapid loading is one of the many winning factors. Personally I don’t work in it full time as I’m already invested into Pro Tools as an ecosystem and my brain kind of works around Pro Tools, specially when it comes to routing. Regardless, Reaper is very powerful. I do prefer however, a set it and forget it kind of workflow. Where everything is designed already. Although designing your own DAW in Reaper is kinda cool not gonna lie. Great vid!

Good stuff! Love Reaper. The track diversity you mentioned is a massive asset of Reaper's. The fact that one has to always change track setups and stuff in DAWs like Cubase always bugged me about em. Reaper just feels intuitive and doesnt over complicate things

Good points, I have used for just a couple years. I love this software, it plays well with my old gear, and ancient i/o it understands windows commands certain expressions, it understands the knobs on my old Triton, just say learn and it works. I love the routing matrix, automation is easy, and love the item properties window, for panning, skewing etc... I would say for older folks like myself who know windows over decades, it may be a steep learning curve but I have figured out a few things. The best software is the kind that teaches you something while using it. Best of all this software is elegant and runs on almost anything these days

This is very well done. I use Reaper for our show, Total Babble and have been ecstatic. I tried it and Protools with an open mind and don’t get how anyone can use Protools. Sorry to be indelicate, but it's ass. Thanks! Keep up the good work.

It's maybe nice to mention for newbies that Reaper is an empty daw: no intruments and/or sample libraries. In that perspective it's better to buy something like Logic or take a subscription to Studio one+

Yep. Reaper is as stable as Cubase on Atari in the 80s/early 90s. Means: it runs. Simple as that, no matter what. Like in old Cubase: the OS throws 8 bombs, Cubase goes: So what? Reaper acts the same. I am on Reaper since 2013. And I had one crash, and that was my fault. BTW: Cubase went down a complete different path. Compared to Reaper today, Cubase is complete and utter bullshit.

Old comment but yep. Switched out of Cubase due to crashing and getting locked out of sessions.
