Cheers, my friend who learnt to drive in the 90s is trying to get me to go into neutral with the hand break and this is causing all kinds of mayhem 🤣

No worries. It's something that people were taught and now they pass it on. Do what's easier for you. Safety is key. Good luck! 🫶🏾

That's the way it should be done.

I was given 2 reasons why this must be done: Foot on the brake blinds people behind. If struck from behind your feet can slip off the controls and the car can move. Handbrake and neutral will stop the car rolling even if you're unconscious.

Great videos, thank you! I would like to ask about diesel cars. So, if it's 1500 RPM in a petrol car, how many should there be in a diesel when moving off? Thank you!
@bobamd8528
@bobamd8528 2 месяца назад
Otprilike isto.

Hi new driver here. Your videos are really informative. Can I ask do you drive a diesel or a petrol car? I learnt in a diesel but struggling at times getting used to my 1 litre Petrol car, with stalling and feel like I over rev sometimes.
@ZONDOdriving
@ZONDOdriving 2 месяца назад
Hi Natz. What I've noticed is that when people learn using diesel, they often don't have to use the gas when moving off because the clutch is super easy to us on it's own. In a petrol, especially 1L ones, you're way more likely to stall if you just use the clutch only. Keep practicing using the gas and clutch when moving off and you'll soon get the hang of it. 🫶🏾

kinda hard with dbw with no mode (I'm looking at you, 2nd gen picanto). the throttle kinda has its own mind, so rev matching is constantly amiss

@xKayNee

Yeah if you're stopped and anticipating quite a traffic or red light staying on for longer than say 5s, its good practice to use handbrake and neutral. It's better for your car and allows you to rest your feet. It's not required however.

When I was taught back in the 90s I was told when you come to lights handbrake on, if you just have the foot on the brake and someone hits you, you have more if a chance going into the back of someone if your foot slips off the brake from the jolt of the car behind you.

Your TOB is gonna go out by waiting at traffic lights with the clutch depressed. That’s SO bad for your clutch, it’s not designed for that

Also if the learners wears a flexible bottom shoe it reduces the control learning time. Plimsoll or Converse type shoe helps

Once you get the gas to 1.5k RPM, do you keep your foot at that level on the gas or release it then rise clutch?
@ZONDOdriving
@ZONDOdriving 2 месяца назад
Around there yes and increase slightly if you want to pick up speed. I'm working on a video right now to explain when not to do that so that you don't lose control. E.g when you're moving off and going into a turn. Uploading that very soon.

When I was learning to drive, I really forced myself to do things the correct way in order to get my habits right, because bad habits are hard to correct. These are really really important things for when you buy your first manual car, not so much for when you're in a driving school car, and it won't help you pass the driving test, but I would still recommend you to avoid these things: 1. don't rest your foot on a clutch pedal. The only times when they should touch is when you're using it to shift gears or stopping/going. It's a clutch pedal, and not a footrest (footrest is on the left). Your clutch is going to last longer. 2. when stopping at traffic lights, see whether the lights for pedestrians crossing your street are green (it is often visible). If they have green, you have some time before you get the green light to move off (for you to get the green light, pedestrians have to have red). You should NOT be in the first gear with your foot on the clutch the whole time waiting for the green light. Instead, you should put it in neutral and release the cluch. When you see the pedestrian green light starting to blink and go to red, that means you should now get ready to go and switch to first gear. Again this saves your clutch (clutch release bearing). Please do not try to practice this when your driving test is soon. Then you should do thing the way you learned so you pass the test. But when you get your car, please have this on your mind. Sorry for long comment, I tried to make everything as clear as possible. Also, I love this channel, Mark. Keep up the great work.

I was in the middle of writing a long reply and I pressed back by mistake ( Fun)! What I was saying was, I love the long comment and I agree with what you said. Thank you for your thoughtful input. About the foot resting on the clutch...you won't like the video I'm working on right now 🤭🫣

@@ZONDOdriving I'm really sorry for your comment. I would have read it definitely. You know all these things better than me, so I hope you will create a video about stuff like this in the future. Also, on the contrary, you got a like from me. You present the content the right way and it's easy to follow. You are doing a great service to the world with your videos! And thank you for the reply. I will continue to watch your work in the future.

its not good for your clutch to sit in gear with the clutch in waiting for a light... Also not good to rest the foot on the clutch pedal when you're not using it either... Better to learn the whole proper sequence from the start your transmission will thank you

I really don’t understand that fuss about going neutral on stop; actually, the best practice is to go neutral and stay on a foot break; why? Because then you avoid bumping on someone in front queuing in a traffic up the hill; yes! That’s what happened to me! I was lucky to be driving a big car because the one that bumped into me was a van. Stay focused folks and choose logic

You're not alone. You'll get it soon. Train yourself to go into 1st as you're stopping and soon you won't even have to think about it. It will just become part of your stopping routine.
