What happens when my leg starts shaking from holding the clutch for 5 minutes. My clutch is stiff as hell. But 6:23 is exactly what I needed to know. That. And how to smoothly upshift. Somehow revmatch downshifting and pulling away from a stop in first gear were the easy things for me. Shifting from 1st to 2nd I still can’t get perfectly smooth my mirror scent always goes forward a smidge and it drives me nuts.
is it fine to get the car moving with just the clutch and no gas? My car has aftermarket clutch which bites pretty good and will get the car moving on its own without gas. I tend to get it moving with clutch only and no gas but only on straight road never on a hill. Is that OK? Or should I always give it gas?
But you're still turning left? The car coming that direction would have clue what you're doing or whether to go or not?. That's how accidents happen 🤷♂️
the fastest way to burn your clutch is to ride around with your foot pressing on the clutch even slightly. Keep your foot off your clutch pedal unless you're changing gears or setting off THATS IT. I change around 15-20 clutches a week and you can tell who rides the clutch and who doesn't depending on if the transmission side or engine side is worn down first or unevenly.
@@Its_DevsterFIFA You are still pressing the bearing inside your clutch against the cover and releasing a little clamp from the clutch plate allowing it to spin slightly slower than the engine. Imagine 2 discs spinning at the same speed what are glued together, now slow 1 disc down slightly and now you have destruction of 1 plate because they aren’t moving together. Every time your foot touches that clutch pedal you are shortening the clutch lifespan even when changing gears.
Well some people call it going straight over the round about but it always helps to indicate helps all road users that's what my grandad told me anyway
been worried about my turnings june 14th i passed my road test i havent been in a car ever since then even when my friends want to let me drive i feel so scared and worried if i might cause an accident how can i prepare myself for driving after so long without fear ?
Thank you! Moving from a stop to first gear is definitely the hardest part. I guess that's why a lot of people are scared off of manual because the learning curve is really high at first (but then tapers off quickly!)
Thank you Mark for making so useful videos for us learners. I had a test today(my 2nd) and I passed! I had a banana and no coffee in the morning 😊 I like your style, will keep watching.
Good demonstration! As a fellow European (continent) I can vouch for this. Be aware that you're basically using your clutch plates as a brake disc, and your brake lights will not turn on.
I had a car with no handbreak and the breaks failed... we had to jump out the car and pull back after the first gear. p.s. why are you releaseing the cluch so slowly in neutral? there is nothing to release, no need to do it slow.
@@AlikaAlitheiA so if you forget if its in neutral or not? you still release fast? you cant be 100% sure when you just downshifted every gear. i know how cars work.. and our brains arent 100% reliable so he released it slowly.. i do it too when iam focusing on something more important than my clutch.. traffic for example.
@@VR46Monster when you drive stick, you KNOW your car is in neutral, because YOU put it there, it’s a unique position in the gearbox, it is in the centre and it’s loose. I think that’s already enough to be sure. But yeah to each his own 🤷♂️ it’s not like releasing it slow is a bad thing, there is no reason for it though, that’s all I’m saying.
learning stick shift, and been struggling with hill starts but your videos are great at helping to understand the process a lot more. Not just this video but other stick shift learning videos as well!! much appreciated!
@@CaleB-l4c Handbrake isn't meant to be used at higher speeds. Ideally it is used once you come to a full stop. Engine brake will get you down to a more favourable speed and then you can use the handbrake. Or just let go off the clutch when in 1st gear and pull the brake.
@@CaleB-l4c ur suggesting an emergency situation where you must come to a stop asap. handbrake will have to be pulled maybe at a bit of speed but engine braking will take u down much as possible
That will work if you have a lot of Distance to do that. But if need to stop it faster just slow the car down faster with the hand brake. Obviously, don't just yank it up or your lock up the rear wheels.
