Because itd be straight impossible 🤣🤣🤣. For years I've been telling people what a joke Aikido is for real fighting. Segal misled everyone lmao. You can barely find any aikido practitioners in mma as is, and any time a pure aikido guy tries sparring mma rules they have no ability to do anything.

Aikido is the perfect Martial Art to fight Children, when you work in the social Sector and need to deal with over aggressive behaviour. This Kind of Situation has everything Aikido needs and wants 1. The Aggressor attacks sloppy and in a straight line (Most Children do that since they arent trained Fighters or just emotional) 2. The Main Goals of Aikido are preventing violent behaviour before it happens and if thats not possible to end the conflict without injuries on both sides 3. Aikido Techniques always end in a Draw Situation so that nobody actually loses the Fight. Therefore the Child wont get embarrassed and the Adult still maintains its Authority.

Your number one is an interesting one for sure. My mum and I watch the fights whenever I visit and I’m pretty sure she watches the ESPN cards regardless of if I’m there because I’ll get texts from her asking me about certain fighters she doesn’t know. And she has her favorite fighters and stuff. She had always been into boxing (boxing was the first combat sport I picked up, my father was a boxer and I started boxing basically as soon as I could walk) and she really likes college and Olympic wrestling. She hated the early UFC because of the whole “brutality” thing (pretty sure she knew how bad it was to punch people in the head without gloves even back then) but by the time TUF started airing she gave it another chance and saw how much more sporting it was and how it mixed the kickboxing and wrestling sides of things and came to really enjoy it. The audience of MMA has really grown into anyone and everyone who respects what these great athletes are capable of.
@JamesHeinrich-vk7vz

When she asks about the fighters, do you call her a "casual"? The reason I ask is the new wave of loser mma "fans" (HARD AF "Hard"cores) JUMP at the chance to call ppl "casuals" because they have lives outside of MMA or who just ask a simple question/give an opinion. I'm 39, 6'6" 260lbs, boxed and grappled for over 8 years combined, been watching since UFC 1. Got called a "casual" two days ago by some little punk who DEFINITELY can't fight just because I acknowledged that Nick Diaz was very slow and sluggish in his last fight (just a SIMPLE observation) and was hit with the old "you seem to be a casual" lol. Then he started naming everyone Diaz beat in the past like I'M new here lol. It's like if I won't devote MY WHOLE LIFE to MMA, I'm not "aloud" to consider myself a fan. It's like watching a hockey game and saying "oh they traded so and so? I didn't know" (because it just happened the day before) and then someone responding with "pfft, casual" lol. "Hey guys, he claims to be a hockey fan but didn't know so and so got traded" "casual spotted ha ha LOSER" "Ya casual, tell me you're not a fan without telling me you're not a fan, loser" lol. It's just SO FCKN LAME

Another good change is that movies have less cheesy fight scenes. I feel like tv/movie fights have gotten so much more realistic and flow better now that people know more about fighting and expect certain things out of fight scenes. Fights tell stories more often now since people understand what fighting dirty is and when it is appropriate.
@sonic6689

I think that is more thanks to Hong Kong movies than mma. People like Bruce Lee, Jet Li and Jackie Chan is responsible for that change.

@chideraalexanderdex547
@chideraalexanderdex547 2 года назад
I think the John wick movies prove for sure that most serious action movies(not superhero movies though) need to have some MMA vibes to seem authentic and hard hitting. Hong Kong action movies started the trend but with the popularity of MMA and with MMA fighters making more cameos in movies people expect a different breed of fight scenes. If you know exactly what kind of attacks work and which don't then you won't buy some seagal style beatdown and you can't suspend your disbelief enough to enjoy the movie So I agree with the OP one hundred percent
@jc-kj8yc
@jc-kj8yc 2 года назад
@@sonic6689 adapting the hongkong action approach definitely improved western action movies, thanks Wachowskis, but it's a bit more complex. The biggest name in Hongkong for the last 20 years has been Donnie Yen and he heavily pushed MMA there. Hongkong cinema improved Hollywood action and MMA improved Hongkong cinema afterwards. And now Hollywood is adapting again. One more thing is the star rocket career of action directors like Chad Stahelski. The man is a live long martial artist who trained Jeet Kun Do, Judo and BJJ in the 80s and 90s, got to work with Yuen Woo Ping at the set of the Matrix and now combines his experience and skill from back then to make movies like John Wick. And all of this isn't even taking Thai and Indonesian cinema into account. Ong Bak and the Raid alone had an immeasurable impact on action movies world wide.
@jc-kj8yc
@jc-kj8yc 2 года назад
I'd disagree that fights tell stories more often now. That's what fight scenes always have been doing, but MMA definitely added more vocabulary to the storytelling, so to speak.

On number 9. I agree with the over correction. But I think its more because BJJ or at least submission grappling is a MUST in mma and it has to be at a certain level to even be able to compete on a regional level. I think its hard to escape BJJ, because a wrestler with no sub defence really has a hard time at any decent level at mma.

Another thing worth mentioning in support of MMA never being underground again is that it outlasted its "this is a fad" stage and has grown so much since that. Like around the late 2000s when tapout was blowing up it fully seemed like it might just have been a fad that would die off like even skateboarding did so many times before from the 60s all the way to the 90s, or how rollerblading came around massive in the 90s and then just died hard until very recently, but the shift from tapout fad era into mainstream just happened so well that by the time the fad died, it was seen by a lot of people already as a "real" sport.

Gotta be honest Ken Shamrock and Dan Severn in the WWF got me into UFC watching the VHS tapes with my buddy. I fell out when I dropped Pro Wrestling as a teenager, then picked it back up in my late teens early twenties when we'd drink beers and just watch for someone to get fucked up. Mid to late 20's I started appreciating for the sport it is.

The first MMA event I watched was because of CM PUNK, fell in love with the sport ever since

@@alexanderlohner3104 whatever got that foot in the door my man. As far as I'm concerned the Punk experiment was a sucess, it brought a bunch of new eyes to the sport and alot of them fell in love and stayed!

Pride was what got me into ufc, I wasn't old enough to watch it alone but I got to watch it with my dad in the early 2000s. But shamrock and Severn helped me get interested in it.

A new art dominating is largely misleading coz the Dagestani style does seem to be dominating. I mean until someone deals with the Khabib skillset it's a problem for everyone

The thing that’s still very different about MMA from other big sports is that for the most part there talented stars are still approachable in society. As in they are pretty much just normal dudes when they go out in public, Conor being the exception of course, the guys a celebrity. I’ve met tons of top UFC fighters in person in many different everyday social settings and they are not being hounded by fans or media. I’m mentioning this because I hope and prey that this will not change.

Those first five, actual style against style, never see that again. Having to fight 3 times, never again. Number 2 was 4 times, the only one. No weight classes, no rules, no time limit never again. The first 10 had much of this, but already the cross training was going on. Those first 5 to maybe 10 were absolutely the glory days.
