AAAAAAAAAAND it's cancelled by cancel culture due to "transphobia." Welcome to the New World Order, aaaaalrighty then! Take care, now. Bye bye, then. ;)
Ace Ventura would've flopped hard had not Jim Carrey been casted imo. I like Rick Moranis but Carrey was perfect for the role because he brings so much to these types of characters.
Actually, I think the movie could have been a big success if it starred either Rick Moranis or Whoopi Golberg, but it would have been an entirely different movie, only similar by the title alone.
That opening scene, the one where Ace is throwing and kicking and generally tearing up that box while disguised as a delivery driver, had me laughing so hard I almost passed out. Sometimes the best scenes can be executed without a single word.
That scene is one of the greatest character introductions in films of all times imo It tells you EVERYTHING you need to know about Ace before he even opens his mouth
I think UPS did actually kick off about that scene aswell because he was wearing a uniform similar to there's and he did actually say it was a dig at them 🤣🤣
My favorite lines are . . . Lois Einhorn: How would you like me to make your life a living hell? Ace Ventura: Well Lois, I'm not really ready for a relationship yet but thank you for asking.
I think Courteney was clamoring for a more serious stake in acting at the time and considers she was fresh off the He-Man project, I can kinda understand her hesitation. But c'mon Courteney, it's a great movie!!!
I had no idea. Same with the bad guy getting raped by a guerilla in a giant bush at the end of When Nature Calls, lol. Had no fucking clue what was going on. -
From '94-98', I was obsessed with this guy and his movies. Watched those films so many times and can still quote them endlessly. His star may have faded now, but being in a theater at 13 years old when "Liar, Liar" came out, with a sold out crowd that was tearing the roof off from laughing so hard is one of those theatrical experiences I will always cherish.
I remember I saw that movie for the first time when I was about 10 or 11, and that rhino scene is the first time that I honestly laughed so hard that my sides and stomach hurt. I felt like I was going to puke from laughing so hard.
If this movie didn't come out, then we wouldn't have the sequel "When Nature Calls", which in turn gave us the rhino birth scene. This in turn gave us the Frank Reynolds naked couch birth scene in Its Always Sunny. So thank you for that scene Ace Ventura.
Is it really? That guy is actually kind of a fool and randomly bashes stuff in his videos that is at least as good or even better than what he's talking about, and universally loved. E.g. ignorantly talking about how Mad Max Road Warrior, and Beyond the Thunderdome and Fury Road supposedly have the same plot (this is stretching it a bit, aside from totally being beside the point) and nothing else than Road Warrior was worth doing. Total numbskull, it actually shows one needs real critics, contrary to what some toxic fools here say...
I'm a transgender female and was never offended by the plot twist that Einhorn was a man. The movie is so comical and over the top its not like theres anything to really take seriously. Plus Ace figuring it out and having a nervous breakdown in the shower was a funny as hell parody of the Crying Game.
Im glad that Jim brought his own style to the Character of ce, I mean, bumbeling idiot? Doesnt that sound a lot like Inspector Clouseau or Inspector Gadget?
I could've plausibly seen somebody like Steve Martin play Ace Ventura had they gone with his original characteristic of being a bumbling idiot. Steve Martin would later play Inspector Clouseau in the Pink Panther remake. And he already had experience playing lovable idiots in stuff like The Jerk.
During the “ let’s see that, in instant replay “ part in the insane asylum, you can see Courtney almost lose it ( laughing ) during that scene. She did a little if you watch it carefully.. one of the funniest parts in movie history imo
actually the german trainer scene was one of my favorites in the movie. especially when he says "why do you care about zeh dolphin? do you know him? does he call you at home? do you have a DOL-ZEH-PHIN!?"
It's an elaborate way of saying the best things in life are free - which is true by the way. That's why the things that used to be free are being put behind a paywall.
@@deadseveredheads No money can pleasure, which like pain or hot and cold is a fleeting sensation, true happiness is a state of being which can only be aquired from gaining knowledge of the self which lies within Namaste.
It was Clint Eastwood who recommended Jim Carrey. Having worked with Jim Carrey on The Dear Poole and Pink Cadillac Clint Eastwood knew Jim Carrey was the right person for the role
Omg really? I need to see that. I feel like those two are so beyond different. Sean Connery serious cowboy kind of a guy, meets bugs bunny! That's what I picture in my head.
I heard Clint eastwood loved dumb and dumber, he told Jeff Daniels he never laughed so hard in a movie when he saw the shit scene cuz it reminded him of his first date
Is it just me or is Ace an eccentric, genius detective in the first film and a total buffoon who couldn't detect his own arse using both hands (eg Maxwell Smart or Inspector Gadget) in the second one? To me they are like two very different people.
When Nature Calls was amazing. My favourite of the two films. Then again I was born in 1988 and was extremely young when both films were released. I've watched them both somewhat recently and I still think both movies are hysterical, two of the funniest films ever made. There are just more moments in When Nature Calls that I've been quoting since I was a child. "Hot in these rhinos", etc. -
I joined the Marines in 1994 and this was was loved among military personnel. It was perfect for reciting lines, re-enacting scenes, and for watching on the weekends when wanting to escape from the rigid structure of military discipline and giggle at what a goof Jim Carrey was
Alan Rickman was also Professor Snape for Slytherin house for Harry Potter, the caterpillar in Alice in Wonderland with Helena Bon Carter and One of the Die Hard movies. Don't forget him. RIP Alan
I grew up on the Ace Ventura franchise. I wasn't too impressed with the third film, Ace Ventura Jr.: Pet Detective. I like Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (Ace Ventura 1) Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls (Ace Ventura 2) and the cartoon version of Ace Ventura. In the cartoon, Cartoon Ace's voice actor, Michael Hall, sounds exactly like Jim Carrey! Spot-on! Picture perfect! Hall did all of Jim Carrey's trademark Ace catchphrases such as "Alrighty, then!" and "Do NOT go in there! WHOO!".
I always loved this one. It gets darker the older I get as it becomes more of a comedic Film Noir. Carry`s energy is more infectious than ever and that Cannibal Corpse cameo is so much fun. It was the whole reason I tracked down again when I was a teenager.
Yeah, but what a year for Jim Carrey in 1994. I think 1994 through 1997, at least in the early to mid 1990s, were the best years for Jim Carrey, at least that’s my opinion. After LIAR LIAR, I sorta lost interest in Jim Carrey’s movies. I tried to watch but I couldn’t get into THE TRUMAN SHOW. I admit MAN ON THE MOON was interesting. And I definitely like ME, MYSELF, AND IRENE, as well as BRUCE ALMIGHTY. But the other films I couldn’t get into. Maybe I wanted him to act as those silly, quirky characters like he had before. But I know he wanted to venture and expand his acting talents, and probably most of all he didn’t want to be typecast as that particular kind of character. I remember really wanting to watch THE NUMBER 23 when it was advertised. But for some reason I hadn’t. Perhaps because I heard reviews that it wasn’t good. I still haven’t watched DUMB AND DUMBER TO.... Yes, he returned to the character of Lloyd Christmas. But for me I think it was 20 years too late. Had he did that one 10 years earlier(in 2004), then yeah, I definitely would have watched that one. I don’t know.... Perhaps one day I will see that movie.
I disagree..."When Nature Calls" may be a "same old, same old", but for me it is a much better "same old, same old". It is the one of the 2, that I re-watch and quote the most.
The original cracked me up! It still does whenever I come across it. It was Jim Carey at his funniest, And no, I had no idea there was an Ace Ventura, Jr. - and I plan to leave it that way.
Rotten Tomatoes hates everything, so honestly I don't think most people listen to them even today. Even Minty said even back in the 90s critics hated it, so we shouldn't always listen to critics. (My middle aged Dad back then loved it meanwhile, so critics saying it only appeals to the young is bumpkis)
@@beauwalker9820, I use Rotten Tomatoes to find movies to watch based off of terrible critic scores, but favorable audience scores. So far I've found some good movies. When the critic score is high, but audience score low, the movie sucks. When both scores agree the movie can vary. This is all IMHO
He also says like a glove in the sequel when he crashes the jeep and rolls it in between the two cars into the parking spot. So you're all right technically. Heres the Like a Glove scene in the sequel ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YQ4V_-GY3PM.html And the Like a Glove scene from the original ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3nOxdKcqC_I.html
Interestingly, Ace Ventura: Pet detective was written and directed by Steve Oedekerk, who would go on to write and direct the CGI animated Nickelodeon movie “Barnyard”, I guess Oedekerk always had a love for animals
No, I'm pretty sure that was an accurate depiction of how most guys would feel if they accidentally snogged a person who, in fact, does not have a gun digging into their hip.
Ken Hollis considering there are well documented cases of men going into a rage and beating the trans person they thought was a chick to death, crying and moaning like babies sounds reasonable by comparison.
Jim was already famous through In Living Color..Don't know about outside the US at that time though. Well, I like the second the movie the best.. The part when he knocked out the Monopoly Guy made me fucking die.. Do not pass go! Do not collect 200 dollars!😂
It took me watching When Nature Call, to go back and watch The first Ace Ventura, which I didnt like the first time I watched it. It is a great comedy, you have to watch it more than once to get it, then you know why it appeals to so many Carrey fans!
I feel that Ace Ventura when Nature Calls it's actually better than the first. Ace actually goes through a growing spell. Also I found a much funnier then the first and a little more family-friendly.
I agree, more Steve Martin films please Minty, Planes, Trains and Automobiles just wasn't enough. As well as The Jerk you could look at The Three Amigos and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.
In 1999, I did an internship at a screen printing shop owned by producer James G. Robinson's son, Patrick, in Dundalk, Maryland located near the Dundall Marine Terminal. I helped design marketing materials for Morgan Creek Productions projects including "Chill Factor" and the animated version of "The King and I".
Don't replace a male actor with another male actor when you are doing a sequel. The Mask 2 was awfull for many reasons, but there can only be one Highlander ... I mean Mask and that's Jim Carrey. I hate all those misogynistic tw*ts out there bitching about 'female' reboots. Couldn't care less what those idiots have to say, my two girls and I enjoyed Ghostbusters a lot. Chris Hemsworth's character was over the top, but he did such a nice job I didn't feel like they were trying degrade us men in any way. The restaurant scene is my favorite, huge Andy Garcia fan.
Physical comedy is pretty polarizing. People usually either love it and hate it. Jerry Lewis, Robin Williams, Jim Carrey, Rowan Atkinson, Don Knotts, and The Three Stooges all come to mind.
I was 14years old, I discovered girls at the same time this movie hit theaters, so I asked 3 different girls to go, a blonde a brunette and a redhead, to my surprise they all said yes!, to there I am at the theater with 3 chicks lol, don't remember the movie much.
You should have added that one of the most popular NFL custom jerseys ordered online is the Miami Dolphins Finkle jersey. And no, the Ace Ventura Jr. Detective is NOT a masterpiece. Its probably one of the largest dumpster fires ever created.
I still use what Ace said coming out of the bathroom when I use it "do not go in there!" LOL loved the animated series! need to get it & Mask cartoons on DVD
Dude!! I saw the deleted scenes on a TV version few years back and was so confused. I’m like I’ve seen this movie 1000 times I know every word but I’ve never seen this!
Yeah Minty, Ace Jr is available in Australia. JB HiFi have had for years. I used to work there and put it on the shelves myself. Although I never remember re-stocking it because no one ever bought it!
I disagree with claim it hasn't aged well. I'll assume you're referring to the trasnsexual plot. It was funny then and funny now, maybe even more so. The people who found it funny then will still find it funny now. The only difference is that now the over-sensitive brigade have louder voices.
Great movie, Quentin Tarantino movies are always great. I like to consider it his take on Taxi Driver or an homage to the film. Maybe a retelling or expounding on the story. Well his story anyway, he(Quetin) didn't direct it.
The funniest scene was when he found out he had an intimate moment with a tran__... you know, that word we can't say anymore, that's also shorthand for a car's transmission, but was hilarious in 1994....
