10 Things You Didn't Know About Tales of Xillia 1&2 

Xillia was my first Tales game. I don't regret it.

I absolutely adored xillia. My first tales of game that got me into the series. Pretty much perfect in how characters are not having these huge singular moments of development like in most jrpg but you see the small slow changes to the cast that is almost hard to spot until you replay the game. Oh and not having single dimensional villains as the chimeriad and god generals are some of the best rivals that feel like protagonist of other games Though abyss does this better with that cast especially luke as his giant character scene most jrpg use at the end he does to start for cutting his hair to change. It gets me teary eyes on replays with how his journey shapes up. but xillia is a definite second

Xillia 2 I remember just enjoying the gameplay so much in my second playthrough I managed to clear the ENTIRE debt within the first chapters by accident. Didn't notice it until I finished. But I didn't like the level scaling as like in Fe engage and other games it just cuts down the fun by your progress not actually feeling like much. One is more fun overall and even though Jude is extremely broken as 2 nerfed a lot of the cast I had a blast with a combat healer.

Really hope these two and Graces F get ported to current gen consoles and pc eventually.

It's sad that both games are still trapped in the PS3. We need a remaster. And tbh Xillia's dub is one of the best on par with og Vesperia

Xillia was what got me into the series anyway, I just love the game so much. Wish to see more from it in the future hopefully.

I'm a weirdo who tried Vesperia as my first Tales game and couldn't get into it. However i decided to try Xillia later and adored it. Milla is one of the best female protags ever, much better than Velvet IMO. I think Velvet is more 1 dimensional, and is carried by a sexy outfit, while Xillia is just more complex, and even funny in a serious way due to her fish out of water nature. Count on game journos to have a smooth brain take on criticizing her voice acting. I never noticed it being problematic at all. Did they even listen to her words? It's effing OBVIOUS why she would sound 'robotic', effing smooth brains man. However I just couldn't get into 2 even though I really wanted to, and no surprisingly, I LIKE the debt mechanic because one of my biggest gripes in JRPGs is how they always throw more money at you than you need and you almost never have to make any meaningful purchasing decisions, you can nearly always buy all the weapons, armor, and consumables you need every time you get to a new town with the exception of ultra-expensive things that are intended to be impossible to afford under normal play.. The debt mechanic made me value currency in the game more, and made it meaningful, and made me consider purchases more carefully. no, the reason why I couldn't get into 2 is because I liked the gameplay in 1, and I LIKE games being difficult. But the problem is 2 is balanced towards you using Ludger who was designed to be OP to compensate, and I just didn't like h ow he felt compared to Millia, or Jude, or a couple other characters whose name I forget. I felt like despite having a larger cast the game was forcing me to play as the one character I DISLIKED playing as. blah. I also didn't like the whole rando dimension jumping storyline. Made it feel like 90% of what I was doing was meaningless and would just be nullified in a couple hours. It sucked. That and my fave character, Milla, was the one that was least available. lame. Honestly it drives me up the wall how the game has a poor receiption because of the debt mechanic, and NOT because the scattershot story or the way the game punishes you for wanting to play as anyone other than Ludger. Oh yeah, that's one of my other biggest pet peeves in jrpgs... I *HATE* overpowered protagonists. I don't mean from a story wise (though I hate that too), but gameplay wise. Argh I hate it so much.

xillia 1 had very fun storyline and interactions but xillia 2 had more depressing overtones. videogames supposed to be an escape from reality rather than augmenting them. could see why people hate that debt system.

Xillia 2 reused like 80% of the map. It could have been an expansion.

I always heard that Milla's voice in EN Xillia 1 just had a bit of distortion on the recording, making her sound more nasal. I do find that in general, when people listen to English voices that lean intentionally flat, with more muted emotions, a lot of people dislike it. It may be that people have trouble empathizing with that kind of voice work, but also that if it's done in another language, the different accent or tone just adds enough for people to not notice as much. Also, yeah, I was about to say wouldn't XIllia 2 almost hit M rating as is? Crazy to imagine how much darker it could have gotten, especially if you've looked into the background lore and stuff. They need to port this duology badly. Should have done it right after Arise. The various mechanics, features and some characters are similar enough to be a comfortable jump after Arise.

I don't on know why normies hate Tales of Xillia. It has some originality. Jude has both of parents and going to school to be in the medical field.

milla at the end of ToX almost sounds like more human than the robotic higher up type. so yeah they did it well enough

Off-topic, but I did appreciate the tangent about Tales of Vesperia. It's bothered me for ages that it was on the 360 when most 360 owners wouldn't be caught dead playing "anime games". It all finally makes sense and seems *a little* less stupid.

Bit of a shame that it wasn't mentioned that the originally planned final boss for Tales of Xillia wasn't mentioned as it was neither Gaius & Muzet nor was it Maxwell himself but Origin who sadly got so far pushed in the background as the main antagonist, losing both trust in humans and spirits, that he is barely a present character. :/ Wish I could ask for a "Tales of Xillia Complete" Edition where the game gets rereleased with the content it was originally gonna feature for ToX1 but I doubt that Namco would be doing this with the franchise as it is now and with one of the main development teams from back then being out of the company due to the massive disagreements on what Tales of Xillia was going to end up.

It's because of Xillia that I really got into Tales, I played some of the games before it, but this one got me hooked, I have every Tales game now, I think even Symphonia is best on the PS3, unlike the recent version.

Honestly Xillia 1/2, abyss, and graces all deserve remasters or ports. Sadly i guess they never will

I love Xillia 1 and 2. My favorite Tales games.

I loved X1! Played through it with my gf at the time, it was a blast. Loved the characters. X2 was a huge let down.

My most wanted Tales of games for Switch! Both Xillia games were so great as memorable. I love the character development in 1 as the gameplay and kinda visual novel thing (by giving correct answers in time) in 2.

graces f was by far the best out of the series but xillia 1 got my 2nd spot really loved this one too.

Ludger is still the most fun Tales character gameplay wise imo. They really are amazing games. Top 5 worthy imo both of them.
