The Sean Penn being offended part was, by far, the least surprising fact out of any video you've ever done. I hadn't even heard about it before, but as soon as you said it made one of the actors angry, my first thought was "Sean Penn."
There's a cover of "America F^ck Yeah!" done by an AI Tusken Raider from 'The Book Of Boba Fett" floating around on RU-vid, and it is every bit as awesome as it sounds like it would be.
During a Q&A, I got to ask the son of Gerry Anderson, the creator of Thunderbirds and other "Super-marionation" classics what his father thought of Team America World Police. He said his dad hated it, even though he appreciated that it was intended to be a tribute to his work.
The “Dick, Pussy & Asshole” speech is one of my favorite comedy routines ever! Damn that was hilarious. I also love the “I so Ronery” song sung by Kim Jung Il. My daughter hates it when I sing it to her. I love it!
I missed out on getting to see this in theaters but when the dvd came out I was laughing to tears. In college anytime anyone said something unintelligent we would all respond with "Matt Damon." The "Im So Ronery" song still makes me laugh. While a film like this would be bogged down to hell if it ever got made Im glad I can count on SOUTH PARK to still crack jokes about the ridiculous parts of society these days. Ive been a fan since I was a kid and while the show and I "grew up" together im glad as an adult I can still relate to Matt and Treys humor and how they take shots at everyone. And yes if they made fun of me Id be honored.
Back when we had Blockbuster (which I miss) there were 2 new Matt Damon video displays : one was the Green Zone the Iraq war movie and the other was The Informant . A couple were walking by and saw the displays and both said the infamous Team America version of. " Matt Damon !! ".
Such a hilarious movie, they really take it to everyone. My favorite thing is when the puppeteers started working they were trying to make the puppet movements as lifelike as possible but Stone & Parker told no, they wanted them to look like they did in The Thunderbirds show.
it's not about the puppeteers. What happened is the faces and the lip sync was too good, that's what Trey & Matt asked to be toned down to make it funnier. They had to re-write some stuff because of the limitations of what the puppeteers could physically achieve. It's the technical hardware and software that was too lifelike.
I saw it in theaters and the audience was laughing nonstop. There was barely a scene without everyone losing it. It was great. Kind of makes me want them to try stop motion.
I remember going to the movies with a couple of friends to watch this film. We had no idea what to expect but we loved south park so we figured it had to be at least decent. I then remember walking out of the movie theater in tears, it was so funny. I watched it recently and considering the state of everything today, I think it's even funnier now, 😂😂😂.
Just a quick note to complement you on your handle, Trogdor the Burninator! Coolest "S" dragon ever. And your icon. Good Ashe. Bad Ashe. He's the one with the gun.
@@BurninatorTheTrogdor Regardless, you have impeccable taste in humor. Team America nearly made me laugh myself unconscious, Army of Darkness is in my top 10 all time favorites, and Strongbad describing his guitar playing was jam for years! Meedely, meedely, meedely, meedely, meedely, MEEEEEEE! Yeah, that's the stuff.
I remember watching this movie when it came out in the theater after having seen several trailers for the film, but getting into the theater and looking over at my body with a look on my face that said, “what the hell did we just walk into”😂 hilarious movie
My introduction to this film was the theme song. A colleague brought it in to work with the express intention of provoking my distinctive laugh. And it totally worked! I absolutely howled with laughter! I knew I wouldn't be able to watch something that funny in a theater without missing large chunks of it for laughing. So I bought a DVD when it came out and watched it at home with much pausing and laughing! So much playback, so much laughter! I almost laughed myself unconscious when Gary was puking in the alley. Fantastic stuff!
To this day, whenever I'm in a theater and a trailer comes on for a Matt Damon movie, I call out "MATT DAMON!" and people still get a good chuckle out of it 😂
I prefer the story that the puppet love scene was so over the top because they wanted to give the ratings board something to fixate on. They were then stuck having to leave almost the whole thing in when the board only had minor comments
I haven't watched it in a while, but I think that was pretty much what they said in the DVD commentary. It's sort of like gaming the MPAA by sending in some raunchy scenes, like pawns for fodder.
I had zero desire to see the movie and it took me years and years before I did. After I saw it, it was the thing that happened to me after doing the same to Lethal Weapon, I absolutely fell in love with it. SOMETIMES, the crowd is right. Sometimes.
Can we get a Megaforce vid?!? It’s the Minty video I didn’t know I wanted until today! Being using the “why isn’t everybody more intelligent, like me?” almost everyday in an ironic, cynical way. (But minus the accent) We have such flawed epistemology and are poor judges of our own abilities. 😂😂
Yo! I had the exact same experience laughing myself into a panic attack in the theatre, except it was the sex scene. I was trying really hard not to laugh too loudly, or start snorting & choking, so I ended up in this awful breathing loop with weird hiccups, and my heart rate was going nuts, and I was trying to hide all this which was making it worse, so I had to get outta there for a good while...so I suppose that was the hardest I’ve ever laughed.
I got it for my birthday and laughed so hard I had a bad asthma attack. It was SO worth it! Aamof, I'll watch it after this review...Ty for reviewing this Minty!👍
This was such an amazing movie. I went to see it in the theatre when it opened, I went with my best friend and girlfriend at the time and they were genuinely embarrassed at how uncontrollably loud I was through the entire movie from my non-stop laughter... During the puppet sex scene I literally fell out of my seat... For some reason its reassuring to hear I'm not the only person who made an ass of himself in public cause I could not stop howling with laughter.
Watched it in theaters & we had a mom with 3 kids sitting in front of us & within 10 minutes of the movie she made them all leave! So hilarious, she had no idea what movie she brought her kids to! At the end of the movie I told my friends, that mom must have "Head back to base for cocktails!" My favorite scene is the 1st fight scene it was building up to be this epic fight then it wasn't just puppets colliding & getting tangled up, so genius! Matt Damon!
I actually met the real life individual who was the inspiration for the character "Joe Smith" (the blond jock on the Team). He was based on former starting quarterback and (as of 2004) future head football coach at the University of Nebraska, Scott Frost. In a behind the scenes interview, Trey and Matt, while not mentioning Frost by name, made it clear he was the inspiration for the character by reveling that his back story was that he was a "former starting quarterback from the University of Nebraska who now serves as the 'quarterback' for Team America". Frost was, at the time, the only Nebraska QB that came anywhere close to matching the physical depiction of Joe Smith.
That's crazy. I went to school with the real life football player that was his inspiration. He was always swinging his dong around the locker room. Kind of a Dougherty. Small world huh??? I'm totally mot making this up for attention and validation in youtibe comments.
I did and do so.. they make an edit or delete button for you there wanna be edgelord. And @stzaleft you went to Wood River then?@@Notconceitedjustbetterthanyou
This movie is awesome and I lost count how many times I have seen it. It's just this hilarious. Hard to believe it will be nearly 20 years ago when it came out.
Being a University Student studying Political Science during the absolutely insane and dark days of the Dubya Jr. Iraq invasion era I remember finding unbelievable amounts of catharsis in quoting this movie with my friends. It was just good to know you weren’t the only person who felt the world had lost its mind, leaders were idiots, and the media was full of bullshit artists. I love Matt Stone & Trey Parker’s Humour! Also, if anyone hasn’t seen Orgazmo I highly recommend it! I’d love Minty to do a review of that one ;)
Wow you sure seem triggered @@dave8323. I didn't know there were Dubya Jr fans in England? Or wait... are you one of those poor Labour schleps who are still trying to excuse Tony Blair's participation in Iraq & Afghanistan, fantasizing he'd had the balls of Hugh Grant in Love Actually instead of being Bush's b**** in the real world? Maybe ask yourself "mate" if 457 Brits in Afghanistan, 179 in Iraq and hundreds of thousands of civilian lives was worth it? For my generation it sure as hell wasn't and this film was the bit of dark humour we needed to cope with the absolute insanity we were living through. As for following administrations I'd certainly say Obama did his best to clean up the mess left to him by the previous turd. Trump is a joke and not even worth giving credit to for anything. And Biden may not be the most exciting slice of milk toast, but after the Trump carnival a bit of Vanilla is a nice break. And let's not even consider turning our gaze to the mess of clowns you've been ploughing through in the UK since Blair & the genius of Brexit ;) PS - Only a Brit can have the hubris to call someone a "smug ponce" and not realize how much of a smarmy, posh twit he himself sounds 🤣
@@dave8323 As a non American, can I ask why Obama is there? from an outsiders point of view he focused on education and tried to introduce something approaching universal healthcare, could speak in whole sentences and didn't seem to want to become the supreme leader... That "seems" very different from Trump and Biden but, that's only what I have seen externally
I love this film it is hilarious Matt Stone and tray Parker did a fabulous job with this movie could you Minty do 10 facts about South Park bigger longer and uncut
I watched this with my daughter when if first came out in video stores. Just about gave myself a hernia from laughing so bloody hard. We still quote quite a bit of it to this day. One of my favourite movies ever and I've lost count of how many times I've seen it.
When two Matt Damon movies , The Green Zone & The Informant , were released at Blockbuster and had displays in their store . I saw a couple walking around and they said at the same time the Special Olympics Matt Damon imitation ! Wish I had a GoPro for that .
When I saw this upon its release…. I was curious to see how they would take this film. As soon as the first fight scene finished- I died laughing and knew this was going to be hilarious. “There’s 3 types of people” 😂😂
Around the time this came out, a story mentioned that they had developed the puppets so much that it became "too real" & they had to dial everything back to be more "puppet like"! Classic movie! Durka Durka!
Hilarious movie! Thanks for breaking it down. Stone & Parker are comic geniuses. I love the slower version of America, F**k Yeh that they play during one of the sad parts. Comedy gold!
I heard that Parker and Stone pre-empted that they would be asked to cut elements of the puppet love scene. Therefore they made it ridiculously long deliberately so that there would still be sufficient footage of it in the film for it to be hilarious. I hope it’s true because I feel like it’s the kind of thing they’d do and if so it worked a treat.
They knew that the MPAA (now renamed MPA) would give it a NC17 rating with what they wanted in the film, so they shot a lot more and sure enough got a NC17 rating. So they resubmitted it with cuts (of the extra, outrageous scenes they shot) that they never intended to be in the movie originally anyway, and the MPAA gave them a R rating, and they were able to keep everything they wanted, just the way they planned it.
I saw this at the movies too. The bit where he gets handed a hammer to kill himself followed directly by the Fuck Yeah song was too much for me. I was almost literally rolling in the aisle. I don't think I ever laughed so hard before or since.
I loved Team America and watched it at the friend's house while recovering from a nasty case of shingles. The sex scene is one of the funniest things I've seen and I forgot my discomfort for a long time.
It's amazing how something can be so funny that it can cause a panic attack. Once, when I was in Las Vegas, I was watching a kid play one of those "shoot 'em up" video games and he was specifically targeting all the innocent characters. I laughed so hard that I severely pulled something in my chest and had a panic attack.
The originator of the original Thunderbirds show of the 1960s, the late Jerry Anderson, hated the live film action version. I remember him being interviewed about it and becoming very techy and refusing to answer questions.
Love the videos Minty! Keep coming out with great content! I found your channel a year ago or so and went back to check past videos of yours and now my watch later playlist is full of 10 things i didn't know vids!
Fun fact, i was about 10 years old and asked my dad if we could goto the movies. He took me and i didnt pick a movie till we got there and i chose Team America not knowing it was an adult movie (my dad didn't either....) boy that was a weird movie to watch at 10 years old 😂
I didn't get to see this in theaters but I bought it on DVD as soon as it came out. I hadn't laughed that hard in forever. After it ended on my first viewing, I started it right back up again. I watched it 3 times in a row because I couldn't believe what I just saw was real. I was convinced I was having a hilarious fever dream or something.
Team America, FUCK YEAHHHH!!!! This was actually a comedy/ horror for me. Cuz dummies scare the hell out of me. Been a long time since I saw this but the shit was hilarious.
I saw this movie on release in theatres for my 12th birthday party lol there was my dad completely oblivious when the theatre lady told him he might not want to take a group of children to see the movie lmao my two older brothers really helped out and me and my 6 friends were pissing our pants laughing the whole time 😂 my dad told my my friends after the movie to tell their parents we saw the other movie and they all did hahaha I had an excellent childhood
My folks took me to see this in theaters. Dad & I were cackling, mom was grossed out😂 Based on how society is now, I treasure that memory so much more in my mid 30s
YAY!! You mentioned Mel Brooks' ORIGINAL _The Producers!!!!_ Even with - or maybe especially because of - the Broadway musical remake and subsequent film of it, the absolutely brilliant 1967 (same here I was born) original tends to get really overlooked. But look: It was literally Mel Brooks' directorial debut, it starred the legendary Zero Mostel AND Gene Wilder in his first of many starring or co-starring roles. Almost the entire film is immensely quotable, with several scenes even being iconic. I have literally seen this film more than any other at 37 times.
