Salvation is still one of my favorite Terminator movies.. lots of blunders, but still got the Terminator movie I wanted growing up. Really wished there were more post Judgement Day movies.
Yeah I remember seeing the clips of the future in the original Terminator movie and thinking, that's the movie I want to see. Salvation tried to do that.
@@1pcfredNot to mention video games and toy lines also showing off the future war. Yeah, despite its issues, Salvation really did fulfill that long sought childhood dream for a full movie set during that time.
@@Morgil27 I just remember those scenes really captivating me when I saw them. The movie would have been good without them. They kind of didn't really even fit in with the rest of the movie. They were like mini movies inside the movie. Like cut scenes in a video game.
If only the 4th Mad Max had Gibson. It was a great film, but with him as his character would’ve made it a comeback for the franchise and prove a good story can exist with an original cast. Because not all these sequels to older films have done well, but that one would’ve done great with him in addition. Hardy was good though.
Christian Bale may not have been the best John Connor, but Anton Yelchin was perfect as Kyle Reese. Even getting Micheal Biehn's mannerisms. The robot practical effects were pretty great.
It's hilarious hearing Bale SCREAM "are you professional or not!?" when scolding a person in front of an entire crew instead being professional and taking it somewhere private.
@@loka7783 Not really, though. T3 is when they started messing with the timeline. The only reason T3 is regarded kinda well is because the end caught everyone offguard. It never really offered anything new to the story, T2 showed the bombs go off in Sarah's dreams and that was the most viseral way to show it. TS isn't perfect, but it didn't need T3 at all.
@@TommySawtooth I respect your opinion but to me, without T3, TS doesn't make sense as to why it is taking place at all. Unless you put TS in an entirely separate timeline (or right after T1) after T2 the series ends. If you add in T3 then you can progress to TS with no issues, imho.
One of the big issues is that Terminator 2 literally wrapped everything up perfectly even with the original ending being taken out. Terminator salvation should not have focused on some Robot man who gives away his heart but it should have been focusing on Kyle Reese the entire time. John Connor should have only been there to move the plot along by giving Kyle Reese his mother's photo and the end of the movie is him sending Kyle back in time along with the Terminator that protected him.
Terminator 2 didn't wrap things up perfectly. Once Arnold was destroyed, Jon Connor should have disappeared. If they ended Judgment Day, then there's no reason to send Kyle Reese back. He doesn't have sex with Sarah Connor. Therefore, Jon Connor is never born.
@@CJBenjamin3000 I don't think back to the Future rules apply. You're acting on the premise that going back in time to prevent an action therefore remove the reason to go back in the first place. Since this never happened in the film we can conclude that time travel in The Terminator Universe will drop somebody in the past and they therefore become part of that reality and timeline they arrived in. Any alterations to the Future would not affect them because for them even though they are in the past they are still moving linearly into their own future. They have only created a new timeline to move forward in even if their parents or younger self are wiped out.
John wasn't the first leader to send Kyle back and we don't know why he went back. We just know that Kyle was sent back BEFORE the first movie for some reason and then John Conner was born and became the leader of the resistance. John knew Kyle was his dad and sent him back in a recurring loop. We don't know how many times Kyle was sent back, but we know the first time, it wasn't by John. Other people could have even been sent back that were not Kyle for whatever reasons. NOTHING is wrapped up until the first time before time travel is done.
Timelines in time travel theory can be confusing. Technically a “zero” universe has to exist where John is born organically from a different father and the machines are built without being reverse engineered from the future.
@@Verbalaesthetspeak for yourself, bet you weren’t old enough to see terminator 1 or 2 in the theaters. What is even your argument, beside trolling? sry for your mother
@@VerbalaesthetSpoken like an ungrateful clown who just want to see Arnold and doesn't really care about about the origins, history and lore of the Terminator.
@Verbalaesthet I grew up when the first 2 came out and this is the 2nd best of the franchise in my opinion slightly behind T2. Everything about this movie was amazing!!
One issue I had with this movie was most of the scenes were in the day time. It's like they didn't remember what Kyle Reese said in the first terminator. Stay down by day, but night you can move around.
That wasn't the only confusing thing because I remember Kyle Reese said that the T-800 were new in the first movie but having the T-800 with the skin when Kyle was a teen feels too soon to be in the story like that.
He was still young. I reckon the terminators t800s like Arny in the first film were still in its infancy. Plus you still seen they had to sneak around A LOT.
In T2, Kyle was a soldier. The Resistance bases would be more vulnerable at night. Maybe, that's when they fought, to distract bots from finding their bases. In this one, Kyle is not a Resistance soldier. He'd be more vulnerable at night, which he stated in the movie.
Same. Although the silly voice in my head went "Don't let him out of the box; He will lose value!" due to the plastic look of an action figure (it did work well though as this was, in theory, the "first T800" so they would still have some work that needs doing.
The bad CGI used on Arnold's face took me out of this film when I saw it in the theater. I wonder if some people are like myself and just like to see an actor play in a role and allow suspension of disbelief to let the viewer see a young Arnold (T-800). The characters definitely needed more nuance,Beale and Ray. So the two most important performances are wooden. The action was kind of stale. The robots look too much like transformers at the time. . . The original and its sequel as far as I'm concerned are their own thing. That being said this movie was serviceable but had a lot of potential. It's like there's a fantastic story to be mined but they didn't dig deep enough. Some pretty cool scenes scattered here, and there and that's it. Terminator 2 was so big because it had Big steaks and you felt the steaks. Collective fear of nuclear destruction was still in people's minds. You can't just copy the same formula to make a hit film or have some of the same elements. What reverberates with an audience at one time can't be duplicated with a newer audience. Just my humble opinion because I still watch these movies, and I still have fun with them for what they are.
@@CDee-if9og I never said the movie was good. Just that I, personally, liked that moment, even if the CGI were bad etc... Do we have to agree on everything ? I'm pretty sure everyone has something he likes even if others find it lame.
Fun fact regarding Danny Elfman: Elfman actually wanted to score Terminator 3 but as we all know he did not get that job since Marco Beltrami got hired to score part 3. So that`s pretty much why he scored this one.
I loved the terminator TV series. I still feel bad we didn't get a 3rd & final session! Truly one of my fav must see TV shows. Especially if you loved T2.
I started catching the TV series. I had an issue with it originally because the original cast was not involved. I'm really liking it, though. I wish I had been more open-minded back then.
I LOVED the terminator tv series too, but, didn't know there was a tv series on,until I bought the dvd series from a pawn shop for $ 3.00 ( this was the first season ) Then I later bought season 2 from the same pawn shop.GOOD series tho.
The TV series was way better then you'd have expected of a Terminator show. Garret Dillahunt forever became Cromartie whenever i saw him in other shows heh.
As others have said, it is the best Terminator since Terminator 2. All the other movies had mixed reactions. And we finally got a grown-up John Connor that's not a wimp. No one would follow that wimp in part 3.
This movie holds a special place in my heart, as my wife and I had our first date going to see it. (She picked it, oddly enough.) Always liked the premise, but I do agree that it missed the mark a bit. Still entertaining at least!
Bloodgood was also in the tv series about an alien invasion-FALLING-SKIES-and I LOVED this sci-fi series.I don't know if any one remembers this tv series tho,it came out a long time ago.
@user-be7tc2bd6e Fakling Skies was GREAT! They definitely should've had a bigger budget than they did but they did good with what they had to work with
@user-be7tc2bd6e I watched the crap out of Falling skies for the first couple seasons lol. Walking Dead but with aliens, tho it did have some pretty neat story elements and twists.
I liked it, however Marcus character was not necessary and the scenes occur mostly during daylight when the first movie pointed clearly that humans went out during night time.
@@murdock8068There aren't supposed to be T-800s there at all. All of the endos you see in the assembly line are T-700s, which at that time are just going into production. They changed all the T-700 references in the script to T-800 when someone got the terrible idea of cramming a CGI Arnold cameo into the movie several years before it would make sense. As far as the humans running around in the daytime, that's actually a goof in the first Terminator movie, not Salvation. At the time he wrote it, Cameron didn't realize that humans would be easier to spot in infrared at night than in the daytime.
You forgot the biggest gaffe of all.... Worthington didn't know he was a terminator until halfway through the movie. He didn't once touch his chest??!!
I really like this movie. It was a fun ride into the world of Terminator. I could have met Linda at Comic Con but her line was crazy big... I had the pleasure of meeting and hanging with Bret Azor, Arnolds stunt double in the GenisASS and Salvation. What a great guy.
Don't remember much of the movie but that scene when Arny came out the factory mold and give the protagonist a hell of a fight when up to that point they were bashing robots left and right with relative ease. It's like boss fight territory xD and the fact John Connor was about to die was just the cherry on the cake.
The only terminator sequel that is like the two Cameron movies is actually the Terminator Resistance game. It looks and feels like the first two movies and even used future war concept art that was never used from T1/2, like locations and machines.
This movie is FREAKING AWESOME and I'm glad it was made and turned out the way it did. I've re-watched it dozens of times, it just really stands apart from the others in the franchise. The trailer with Nine Inch Nails' playing "The Day The Whole World Went Away" just revs me up and sets the tone. So okay ya I'm a little biased, but glad to hear your take and the extra tid-bits.
Bale getting upset was perfectly legitimate. He apologized for how he went about it, but not for doing it. And I agree. I've worked in the industry and hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars are spent every second of filming. So just from a financial point of view, the guy screwed up bad. If it was just some random grip, it wouldn't have been so bad. But it was the cinematographer. One of the most important jobs on the set requiring some of the most professionalism and knowledge as possible. So when that guy did what he did multiple times, Bale lost his shit. How no one else called the guy on his stupidity before Bale did, I have no idea.
@@logangodofcandy Normally I would go there but I don't think so in this particular case. Imagine spending hours and hours on 1 scene and some douche ruins it just when you (the actor) thought you had that scene finally.
As I understood it, the DP was checking light levels during a rehearsal, which in many other productions is not unusual. Only in this case, the actor involved was extremely sensitive to distraction, and temperamental. I severely doubt the DP was so clueless to be walking behind actors during a filmed performance. It is general procedure that all on-set activity ceases when the camera rolls, which is why the Assistant Director yells, "lock it up" before the camera rolls.
@@aliensoup2420 Even during a rehearsal, people don't move around on a set. The rehearsal isn't just for the actors, but for sound or stunts or whatever. At minimum, it's rude as people are trying to get something done. Especially the actors who are in character. How do I know? Worked in the industry for as while. And as the recording states, it wasn't the first time the guy did this. This tells me he had a habit of walking around when he wasn't supposed to. As for "lock it up", never heard of it. Not even when in film school. Not saying it's never been said ... but that it's not a normal phrase like "traveling" or "flying in". Both are phrases used when moving around the set. The former is what someone says when they "travel" in front of the camera. It's to warn those near it to not freak out if looking through the lens for focus or lighting. The latter is what you say when en route to somewhere. Be it to deliver a prop, bring coffee, or to go somewhere when called. In addition, as someone else already said, imagine being the actor who has spent hours trying to get a line in a really difficult scene right and some dude goes walking onto the set, in your field of view, to tweak a light. Now imagine being that actor after that guy has done this multiple times.
I genuinely love this movie and I never understood why there was so much hate. Wish they would have made a sequel when John Connor actually defeats Skynet and both send back their guys. In the original draft of T2, Cameron had wanted to show this time. And yes, imo this was the only decent Terminator film or production since T2. Despite everything working against it, it endured (for some),
In regards to the concept art of Helena Bonham Carter's character and her silver dress, there was a deleted subplot about Skynet being controlled by other Terminator Hybrids similar to Marcus Wright, and Helena's character was resurrected to be one of those hybrids. They cut that footage and subplot, and reshot Helena's scenes to make her a face of Skynet. For those interested, you can find snippets of footage of this subplot in a VFX reel for the film on RU-vid. It was an interesting and bold concept for a Terminator film, especially in combination with the original ending.
I've been waiting on another upload since your last one and boyyyy....I didn't expect that it'd be another Terminator! I actually liked this installment just because I was waiting on another Terminator and happy it had Christen Bale in it. Idc what anyone says, this one slapped hard! 😅😅😂😂
I saw this movie once and can't really remember it I just don't ever remember liking any of those Terminator movies anywhere close to as much as I did The Terminator and T2
I asked someone that worked on the movie what's MCG like, and the exact response I got was "Complicated." Not sure what the person meant. And funny thing that he was involved in the Lethal Weapon tv series which also got audio leaked of the lead yelling on set. Not saying is MCG leaking the audios but is a big coincidence. Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, I remember hearing that they had plans for 4 seasons.
I would strongly recommend the Terminator prequel book! It was a good read. It focuses on the lives of Kyle Rease and his friend Star while exploring life in the post apocalypse. There is a second story following John Connors resistance team as well.
Wow! Someone else has read the Tim Zahn books! You're 1000% right. They give the best, most detailed depiction of life in a world where Skynet is spreading its power and control. Freaking terrifying. Tim Zahn is a friend of a friend. Our mutual friend is named Mark, and the first time I spoke to Tim was at a sci-fi convention just before Salvation came out. I knew he'd been given a copy of the script so he could write his novels, and I came up behind him and said "Mark made me promise not to kidnap you to get information about Terminator Salvation." He turned and said "Ah! You must be Eric!" Apparently Mark has told him about me. He never broke his NDA, but we ended up chatting about Terminator until about 2 am.
If they want to do a successful terminator movie, it should be in the future war and self contained with nothing to do with previous characters. Could be evacuating civilians, a mission to capture weapons or technology… whatever, but they should drop trying to “continue” what’s already been done to death.
The first Tim Zahn novel set just before Salvation would fit that perfectly, since it focuses on the lives of average people trying to survive whole the city they live in is being systematically brought under Skynet control.
Another thing you probably didn't know about TS is that in the scene where the 1/2 terminator guy is on the rack and John Connor comes walking up to him, there's a reason for the lighting the way it was between them. Apparently the acting styles between the 2 men were very different and the lighting is meant to underscore that fact.
I always liked Salvation and I also thought Worthington played the role with the right amount of just enough normal human to ensure the viewer had no idea he was a terminator hybrid at all until revealed.
It had a few flaws, but it remains one of my favourites. For one thing, it actually captured some of the true menace and horror elements of the original Terminator - always annoyed me that T2, while a great film, totally abandoned the repulsive inhuman element of the T800; like the fact that because he has living flesh over a metal body, it doesn't cope with damage, and the flesh rots, and the terminator starts to stink. Terminator Salvation had some nice moments that revived the actual terror of the machines; the inhuman aspect. Also has to be said, sounds like Bale is a bit of a fool, and the film would have been better without him causing so many changes.
One of the best things about this movie is, when they release a trailer with Nine Inch Nails 'The Day The World Went Away'..it's the best rendition of NIN TDTWWA...
I honestly loved this movie. Had a good visual, and it’s what the series needed, a continuation. A possible full circle. Aside from the different look of John Connor (Christian Bale) I was pleasantly impressed with the new direction.
We went *hard* for Terminator Salvation. I played the Resist Or Be Terminated online game (and commanded the most powerful faction, Skynet Root), submitted a video that ended up getting incorporated into the guerrilla marketing campaign, bought basically everything related to the movie (the art book is gorgeous, and gives a lot of insight into the evolution of the movie), and have a cardboard T-600 stand-up from the 7-11 cross promotion guarding my attic. But the peak was that my wife and I flew out to California for our summer vacation just so we could ride the rollercoaster. Worth it! We also made a side trip to LA for the sole purpose of getting our photo taken on Pico Blvd.
It was my understanding that at one point, there was EVERY intention to tie "The Sarah Connor Chronicals" and the "Salvation" trilogy together in a satisfying manner providing a complete and final wrap-up for the entire franchise. Too bad we never got to see all of that...
Nope. TSCC, T3, Salvation, Genesys, and Dark Fate are all independent from each other, just all following on from T1/T2. The only thing that cross-pollinated between them is that the (awesome) T-1 units in Terminator 3 were included in the prison camp scenes in Salvation. Otherwise, there was never any intention of reconciling the various continuities together.
I really like THE TERMINATOR, TERMINATOR 2: JUGMENT DAY, TERMINATOR 3: RISE OF THE MACHINE and TERMINATOR: SALVATION, they are totally awesome with regardless of what critics and audiences say.
Minty, I always enjoy your 10 Things videos! They're pretty much a part of my morning routine that I listen to in the background as I'm getting ready for my day. 😊
The problem I've had with all of the movies after T2 is they were attempts to start a franchise rather than focusing on a standalone movie with the possibility of further movies.
I remember seeing this movie in the theaters and it didn't work and I was disappointed, cool video as always Minty, you take care and have a nice day sir
<a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="1264">21:04</a> The "Salvation" element may have been Sam Worthington's character Marcus, who after signing over the rights to his body for medical research, was "saved" from execution and thus allowed to continue being "alive".
I don’t care what anyone says, I appreciated Terminator Salvation from the moment I saw it at the movies. Yeah, Christian Bale was wooden as John Connor. Yeah, the plot to try and use Sam Worthington’s character as an infiltrator was convoluted. Still, the world building was what drew me in. This was the most fleshed-out vision of the future that the Terminator franchise had ever made. Also, Anton Yelchin (R.I.P.) was a good young Kyle Reese. He was different than Michael Biehn’s portrayal, but he was endearing enough to root for. It wasn’t perfect, but with all that was added in there (“You Could Be Mine” playing on the boombox, the T-800 scarring Connor’s face, etc.) you could tell that in spite of its flaws, this was made with the fans in mind.
I'll never understand the hate for this movie and for Worthington. It is the only movie that can hold a candle to the first two AND is original. Worthington's stoicism is perfect for his arc.
The Sarah Connor Chronicles was a lot of fun to watch. There was a strike (writers? actors? dont remember exactly) that messed with a lot of tv shows that year. Season 3 was cancelled because of it. There were photos going around the internet that were supposed to be of a UFO. later we found out those pictures were supposed to be for an Alternate Reality Game for the 3rd season that never happened.
I liked this film. Granted I didn't see the spoiler trailer so I actually got to enjoy the plot twist. I loved the score by Elfman which we heard throughout this video.
I actually think the Sarah Connor Chronicles is highly underrated the character development is pretty great the musical score is phenomenal and the storyline keeps a pretty consistent story arc
