There’s so much I’ve learned from watching all your videos. Absolutely ace instruction and presentation for both a newbie and someone like me, who had used Apple products for years, but never knew that so many more (and sometimes exciting) things were possible and I am genuinely learning something new each time you publish a lesson. Thank you so much.
I've been using Windows since 3.11 and Linux since 2000 and just recently purchased a Mac. I absolutely love this channel. I'm a developer but these videos are perfect to get up to speed on macOS even for technical folks. Thank you!
I've taken advantage of Apple 1:1 training programs when purchasing a new Apple product, you are lightyears ahead of the curve! Thank you for helping me raise my productivity!
You are so easy to understand and follow. Thank You...... I am wondering if there is a way to 'stretch' the font. I do scrapbooking and sometimes I only have a small space to a title ..... and I want to 'stretch' the title.
That was terrific. So informative and although I've been using Pages for several years -you showed me many helpful new features that I'm going to try out now!! Thank you.
Good job; I enjoyed learning with this video. I was trying to decide if I should switch from G Docs to Pages and after seeing this, I'm doing it. Thanks
Gary, i’ve been watching your videos in regards to Pages and learned a lot what I have yet to find is how do I insert a document that I’ve already worked on and that I want to merge it into the current document that I’m working on or if someone has created a page or two, and I want to merge that into my page documents, I’ve not been able to find how to import or add documents, and I was wondering do you have a video or could you do a video if it’s possible?
Keep in mind about those drop cap styles, they dissapear when read in EPUB format on an ipad using night mode where white text shows against a black backdrop. Something to consider.
There is no built-in booklet template like I think you are asking about. But you can build one manually if you like. It is just a matter of where to position things on different pages.
@@macmost If you design it as a booklet, say a letter-sized paper with a fold in the middle, and you design the pages as they'd look facing each other, how do you make it print properly so you can assemble the booklet?
@@nadafarmwife9290 Unless your printer does two-sided, you'd need to print one side first, then feed the paper in again. Create a sample document with just some filler sample content and practice to get it right.
For Previous Versions, do I recall that there is added functionality if it's saved to iCloud? I thought that it would constantly save in iCloud instead of purposefully saving with Command + S.
Gary, how do I move the cursor/pointer to the beginning or ending of a word or line? I could accomplish these shortcuts on my PC (i.e., in Word) but haven't figured out how to move the cursor in Pages, Mail, etc. Thx for all your helpful videos!
I am grateful for these tips. lots of fun and usefulness. is it possible to set pages documents to certain pixel dimensions for later publishing to the web?
As what? Pages doesn't have a way to export as images. The only web-publishable format is PDF which would scale to any size that you use when embedding it into a "box" on a page. If you were to open the PDF in Preview you could export as images from there, and at that point you could set a resolution in pixels-per-inch. So using that number you could set the page to a specific size I suppose. Keynote, on the other hand lets you set slides to pixels and export directly to images, so maybe that is your better option.
I have a question about iMovie. Are you up for a question? I do drone videos of real estate. Is there a way to have the property lines highlighted during the video?
Yes, you can export as a PDF or an ePub file from Pages, both of which KDP accepts. InDesign is a powerful page layout app, so it is much bigger than Pages, a word processor. But the learning curve would also be steeper. So which is "better" is subjective.
heh Gary thnaks for all. im viewing 2 pages at once while designing on pages and want the image to cross over into page on the right can this be done, so if book is open its accross 2 pages? hope this makes sense.
Many thanks for a great video. Even though I have been using Pages for years I learnt something. For simple word processing/page layouts it's a great tool. However, for complicated drawings with hundreds of elements it's virtually useless. The problem has been there since they made it compatible with iPads. Any version after Pages '09 V4.3 slows down seriously to the point where it can take 5/10 seconds to select an object, rendering it unusable. I keep trying every new version as it comes out & none of them have so far fixed the problem. I've filed the problem with Apple many times but no change. Any ideas? Similar family tree drawings have worked OK on MacDraw, Claris Works & oIder versions of Pages, so why doesn't it work on the latest versions? In case you are wondering, I have a fast i5 iMac with 32GB Ram & 1TB SSD.
Thank you Gary, always look forward to and enjoy your videos - presented in simple and effective manner. Quick question is it possible to embed a RU-vid video in the cell of a Pages Table? I tried but it embeds a picture of the video thumbnail - please let me know if there is any way to do this. The same link embeds as a video link if I don't put it in a Table cell. Thanks.
There is a lot of good stuff here. One thing I haven’t been able to find on Pages that I can do on MS Word. I have an ongoing document with information that has to be frequently updated. I set the document up in Word to automatically show the current date and time whenever I open it. I can’t seem to figure out a way to do this in Pages I can add date and time after I’ve opened it in pages, but I have to do that each time. Is there a way to have the Pages program do that automatically on a document as soon as I open it? Thank you.
I want to display photographs. Two photographs per page, top and bottom. Can a file of, for example, 80 photographs be inserted automatically ? I currently drag and drop one at a time.
No way to do it automatically in Pages. If all you want is 40 pages with 2 photos on each page, then you can simply print from the Photos app, choose that as your print option, and then click PDF instead of Print.
Hi Gary! Is there a way to force Pages to change the size of the image that I import? I don't want to resize each (which is just tons of work!! ;/) and Pages by default streatches the image making it big. I would like to force it make it say 30% of the width of the page. Is it possible?
You should resize only the first image you import into Pages. After having the image size you want to use in your document, duplicate your image and replace it with your new image (you can find it on the sidebar: format - image - replace). You can also duplicate the image by option dragging it.
And if i add al these asee some things to my pages document, can I make it into a ebook for myself? I would need to save it as a what? An EPUB? Would the extras work then?
ePub only supports a small set of things word processors do -- they have to work on all ePub readers which include things like changing the font size, etc. PDF is the format to use if you want things to look close to how they do in Pages. But some interactive elements like videos and galleries aren't supported by PDF readers.
Can you create a custom alpha numeric tierd numbering instead of only numeric? For example: CDG_01, CDG 02 and so on. I have not seen a way to do it in pages.
@@macmost Thanks. That’s what I figured. If you’re writing a requirement document or spec document having custom numbering is important. Unfortunately I will be sticking to MS word for those cases.
Hi, is it possible to have different tabs/pages in the same document? I have a long document and want to reach different sections easily without scrolling every time.
I used pages briefly and then immediately installed LibreOffice. Can you change a setting on Pages to set the default file type of all new documents to .doc ?
Pages can convert a doc file to open it, or it can export a doc file. But while you are working on it, you are working on a pages document. Do work on Pages documents until you need to send them to someone who wants a word doc.
Hello. Is there a way to remove the colour of the pasted background of the text from a web page to pages? I can’t seem to get the pasted text to match the white background of the pages document. Thanks
Markup? Usually you would be marking up PDFs or images. So you wouldn't be doing that in Pages, which is for working with Pages documents. If you want to markup a PDF, just use the Files app. View the PDF and there are iOS markup tools you can use.
I made a table in pages and I usually drag and drop images to pages then resize it to fit the space I left for images. My question is, is there a way I can make the image automatically go to that space I created for image?
Hello Gary....This is Alex from Dubai, I just joined your channel here...Thank you for your informative lectures. I have a problem with formatting tabel in Pages. I am new to Pages and Mac in general. My problem is I wanted to resize a single cell within the table in Pages. All of my attempts failed...Please help....Thank you in advance
Select the table and look for the column labels A, B, C, etc at the top. Click and drag the lines between those to resize a column. Then click and drag the lines between the row labels 1, 2, 3, etc to resize a row.
@@mahri233 You can't split a cell, but you can merge cells. So merge together other cells in those columns, leaving behind the two cells to get the same result.
