I wish my parents were for HBCU's. I'm in Texas so it's only Prairie View A&M and Texas Southern University. They're both party schools and my parents hate their reputations so they were against them. So first I went to an all girls university and hated it. So I'm at a PWI now. Oh well two years until I get my degree. If I have children I'm gonna push for them to attend HBCU's🙌🏽🙌🏽

Brianna Franklin yes. Like Jarvis, Paul Quinn or Wiley college are a few Christian HBCUs I discovered after getting attached to my university. I would transfer but I like my university and they people I've met there. However I would of loved to attend PV AMU. I wish they had a masters of occupational therapy.

Khryssi05 A lot of HBCU's are targeted. "They" created this image of HBCUs being bad, party schools, and violent. A crime happens 4 blocks away from a HBCU, but the news station is filming on campus about the crime that has nothing to do with the campus at all. This is a popular hidden tactic to allow people to believe HBCUs are dangerous. Stay woke, HBCUs is a big part of history and "they" don't want us to know that.

I'm a high school senior 2018 👑💅🏾! Yet this video was a big help and I've always had my heart set on an HBCU and you just said everything that I needed to hear. I just want to be surrounded by young black men and women who have the mindset to succeed and I feel like an HBCU can provide that. Also can you make a video on how to research a college professor.

As a PROUD HBCU alum (SSU'15) you hit the nail on the head girl! Lord knows I kicked, screamed, cried and crawled to that stage but I made it! The struggles you experience at an HBCU definitely prepare you and your attitude for situations you'll experience in the real world.

Great advice. I definitely agree with tip on connecting people in your major and join clubs. I would say join one that matches an interest you have. I think people get a lot less homesick and overwhelmed by school when you have something else to bring you motivation and enjoyment. Just going to class and going back to the dorm will make you feel like it's not different than being in high school

I've been looking at Spelman youtubers and asked some people what are some good Spelman youtubers and they recommended you! Because your so consistent, so far I'm really loving your videos ! Sadly Spelman doesn't have my major ☹️ I'm a upcoming senior hoping to be HowardU'22. You really made me feel 10x better and confident about college because i often feel like I'm not on the college level yet. Like it's gonna be too hard cause AP classes were hard for me. I'm an upcoming senior and this video has given me a ton of advice .. at first I wasn't for going to an HBCU Ive always been surrounded by different races in elementary and middle school but not I am really rethinking my decision because i am open to trying new thinks (changing my surroundings)..but either way I know wherever I will get a GREAT education!!💖😊

girllll university of maryland dorms are trash, my freshman year i had no elevators half the time and no ac. PWI's arent always sweet lol. but i don't even go to a hbcu and this video was informative/helped me. thanks brelynn! dont play yourself!

I want to go to an hbcu because I’ve never grown up with people that look like me. My family doesn’t talk to each other so I have damn near. I expose to other black people. Also I’ve been raised around Mexican people my whole life so it would be pretty cool to see people that look like me to a degree.

It’s amazing I seen this video way before going to my hbcu I’m now a Sophmore at Howard University & the part that stood Out to me the most was feeling pressured to be perfect because that’s currently my situation especially because I was expecting to be on campus but we can’t cause of the pandemic now I’m stressing over completing goals & wanting to be successful or not being successful enough 🥴

This was so helpful,🤗 I’m a junior in high school and my college initiative person has been convincing me to go to an HBCU. I really want to go to one now that I’ve done months of research on them. All my life every school I attended was pw, and even though I do have a few good white friends, I lived in racist areas and it sucks being the only black girl in honor classes and having to deal with white people saying racist things during class. I want to attend a college where people can actually relate to me.

Thinking about going back to school for a master's and thinking about a HBCU. I am concerned if it's just going to be the same thing again with me social-wise. I went to a PWI, but it still had a ton of black people there. In some of your classes you might be the only ones, but walking around campus and when events popped off there are a lot of black folks around. I had trouble with making friends and getting girls during my time there. I sort of fear that if I go back especially being as old as I am, I'll still have issues with getting a girlfriend.
