People have to remember the purpose of the HBCU was for our community to obtain access to higher education cause we were not allowed admission into PWIs. Coming from someone who graduated high school who grew up in a rural area, title 1 school, 2.2 gpa but attends a HBCU, a senior majoring in Secondary Education Mathematics, Fraternity Scholar while maintaining above a 3.0 average the HBCU is important to African American community and when comes to the money UNCF is helping me to receive my degree.

I appreciated how both sides were neutral & not shading the other! I attend a PWI & hate how black students that attend an HBCU shade those who don't. I have the privilege to attend a PWI that is considered to be one the most diverse in the Carolinas so my opinion may be biased. But attending a PWI doesn't make me less cultured, I chose my school for the program & other reasons. I support everyone who decides to further their education, the school doesn't change my skin color. Sorry I know this is an old video but I ran across it & had to vent lol Anyway I love the content!

I know a few people dumber than bricks that got into FSU BUT denied at FAMU. They scored a 960 on SAT with 2.5 GPA and still got in lmao I guess it depends how the commitee is feeling that day lol

“Do you really deserve that” people don’t realize everyone is not always able to get a 3.8 because of the circumstances. Everyone has different struggles so you really can not base someone’s potential solely on a GPA. You are limiting people by doing that, however, once they are in the college they can turn out to flourish!

Great answers guys but also think about that not all high schools in the US have equal playing fields. HBCU's affords those kids that don't have the best schools/education facilities in their city or neighborhood to get into a college/university. Their are some cities and neighborhoods where students have to share books, the teaching resources are extremely limited, the curriculum is not up to national standards. Those students are more than likely going to score lower on SAT and ACT tests. HBCU's provides those students an opportunity to get into a college and expand their horizons.

I currently go to a Pwi and I am so jealous of HBCU students. I actually made a video about being black at a PWI.

Just like he said you gotta go where the money is so that's why I chose FSU too! But since I'm gonna be a pre-vet and FSU doesn't have some veterinarian classes I have to take some of those at FAMU anyways so it's kinda the best of both worlds for me!

I’m a hs senior , and I reside in Georgia ! I’ve been debating between famu and some PWI’s in my state . I literally love everything about famu but upon my research & what I’ve heard, the the nursing program isn’t all that great at famu bc of the moneyyy:(

I got a second chance with my pwi. I'm going to northern Michigan University they denied me into the school at that time had a 2.0 and a 810 on Sat but I wanted to go so bad that I sent them my last transcripts which I attain the 2.4 GPA by that time and they accept and told me congratulations on the improvement. The requirement was a 2.5 gpa 850 or 950

fsu really isn't that difficult to get into, id agree that the minimum is 3.5

The avg GPA to get into FSU is 3.9, the middle % is 3.5, so you can have slightly lower than a 3.5 gpa.

(I’m a Local) That GPA situation is definitely something serious. If you compare high school students coming from East Gadsden and high school students coming from Chiles or Lincoln there’s going to be a huge gap. The demographics and SCHOOL SYSTEMS are just so different. East Gadsden most likely has more way more students that are first generation college students who parents have never sat down with them and had a real conversation with them about college. And considering they’re parents most likely have never been to college what kind of help can they really offer. Now compare that to kids coming from Chiles or Lincoln. Who’s parents probably did go to college and have been grooming there child for college since 9th grade or even before then. *Side Note* Yes east Gadsden has WAY more minority students than Chiles or Lincoln. I remember when I was in middle school people used to say that you could count the number of black students at Chiles on your hands.

The huge class sizes of big PWI's, especially when a student is a freshman or sophomore is a REAL NEGATIVE when helping your children decide which college to attend. 600 students and 4 different professors for 1 class is ridiculous.

1st of all, I pray that all of the future leaders refrain from referring to themselves as minorities. Please understand that there is nothing MINOR about you. It's a derogatory term that, in my opinion, is no different from the so-call "N" word. 2nd of all, whenever you have a chance to be in the numerical majority, TAKE IT. Because more than likely, if you're living in the U.S., there's a strong probability that when you graduate, you'll be working around Non-Blacks for the majority of your career. So take every opportunity that you have to be around, your own culture, and hence, learn about yourself. That's not possible at a PWI. Because the Black Student Union don't count. Besides, at an HBCU, the entire University is a Black Student Union. Finally, if you assume, as I do, that your destiny, i.e., being successful or not, is pre-ordained; why spend those four or five years around someone, in the case of PWI students, who more often than not, would rather you not be there? At an HBCU, the odds are just the opposite. In other words, the odds of being around someone who rather you not be there, is almost non-existent. It never ceases to amaze me that we are the only culture that somehow try and rationalize why we, individually or as a culture, somehow BENEFITS when we integrate. It's not true mentally, spiritually, physically, or culturally. ijs, But What Do I Know?
