As a Colombian, the part about wearing jewelry and acting like a rich person for having a few dollars is totally true, rich people in Colombia don't show the money, you don't have to be a moron to understand where you are, good recommendation.
I was pickpocketed on the crowded rush hour Metro. Lesson Learned; when crowded my pockets are empty and items are in front backpack or neck wallet. When seats are available on metro trains; then I set my backpack down and enjoy the metro train ride.

If you are a foreigner in Medellin then you have a crosshair on your back when you are out and about....can't do anything about that. It's difficult to relax there, I always feel like I'm on high alert....kinda ruins the holiday.
Yes don’t see the attraction to go to a country where there is a high chance of getting robbed! And you can’t be yourself. You are on high alert of girks not drugging you and spiking your drinks and robbing you naked, plus hun crimes, plus not feeling safe! Is it really worth it????lol
From MDE airport you can take several colored busses to San Diego. They charge between $14k-16kcop. At San Diego you can take a yellow taxi, Uber, InDrive or take a 4 min walk to Exposiciones Metro stations. It cost about $2880cop and gets you to any other metro station very fast.
I’m seeing a lot of young Colombians wearing shorts these days during the day in town - but they are not gringo shorts - more like football or running shorts - love the videos Wes 👍

I like lunch for less than$5USD that includes two large portions of proteins (chicken or beef or pork) , a large salad, avocado slices, and 2 liters of water; at the cafeteria adjacent to the largest swimming pool stadium in Estadio Olympica complex.

From my experience, as anywhere, I expect to get long hauled with taxi's but almost all the Medellin Taxi drivers were completely honest with me! I tip them generously if I don't get long hauled lol
Yea, white taxis are harder to get but it’s regulated.. once I was dropped at Laureles for 90,000 thru the faster tunnel route. Taxista said, white taxis could ONLY do airport runs.. (not sure)..
Door to door service actually is regulated at 98,000 nowadays. You'll get the same price on Uber, no savings. The shared San Diego Taxi 22,500 or 24,500 depending on direction.
I'll never look like a paisa. So shorts it is. I don't really care. Another thing that I find beneficial is to use local ATMs to take out cash if your bank doesn't charge conversion fee or they reimburse ATM fees. You generally get a better exchange rate than those exchange places. Scotia Colpatria has slightly better rate than Banco Colombia, but the latter is literally everywhere.
Me too bro. I’ll wear jeans if I’m going out at night. But day to day I’m wearing shorts. Plus I see Colombians wearing shorts plenty of times also. And where I’m from, 70 degrees is warm enough for shorts so whatever 🤷🏾♂️
@@Paulmacllc When I read those article about how not to dress like a foreigner in Colombia, I can't help but laugh. Even if we all stripped naked, I still look like a foreigner. Just learn the language and you'll be fine.
In terms of taxis and Ubers at the airport. Ubers will attempt drive you to the old and longer route vs driving through the tunnel plus toll (which you pay for in the Uber app). They attempt to tell you that there’s a new law that requires passengers to pay the toll which is false because Uber is technically illegal. I call them out on it every time.
@@jonsnow9700 I’ve bumped into a few dishonest drivers. I had one driver take me to narrow roads through the mountain. Almost broke his car doing the just became he wanted to earn an extra buck.
@NYMarine21 crazy. I uber everywhere. Have taken about 15 Ubers to the airport and the only "shady" thing was the guy didn't have the cash for the toll. He contributed the 17 he had and I gave the extra 4
@@jonsnow9700 Not all drivers will attempt to scam you. Ubers are actually safer than taxis. But there is a handful out there. If they sense that you know you’re way around, they won’t attempt scam you as it would be obvious. I know that Uber recently updated their software. If the app detects that the driver makes a detour, including tolls, you get a partial refund back. I’m unsure if they rolled that out in Colombia yet.
This goes for all of Latin America, they don’t have the same noise regulations that we do in Canada and America. Also Diesel cars and bikes are LOUD A F
You are not correct about shorts. Locals wear shorts all the time. I lived in Medellin for 7 months. I just left there the other day now I'm in Manta Ecuador. I used up all my visa days. Shorts are excepted. Look around and you will see locals wearing shorts.
I was in Colombia for 6 months this year enjoying happiness, joy and celebrating life with two svelte fit vetted girlfriends, ages 33 & 40. I was introduced to both in 2021 on my first of seven visits to Medellin. Medellin is a 3 hour air flight from Miami. My $12 USD per night Airbnb is a few minutes walk from the Estadio Olympica complex that has numerous athletic facilities. I swim daily in some of the eleven pools and weekends do Zumba at Estadio. There are social cultural activities, and many retirees from USA and Canada in Medellin… . I’ll return January 2024 from USA to again date my two svelte girlfriends. I give both a monthly $ amount. I do Spanish language immersion at same kitchen and balcony as blogger “ Wes “ did in his first 3 months.

I have never been to Colombia, however in November I am going to be in Medellin for two weeks. I have been doing a lot of research regarding the drugging problem. There is a special Facebook group for victims. In every first hand account that I can find it has happened with a non-pro. Typical scenario: An American guy meets a Colombian girl on tinder or in a club. He's 60 she's 20. She says let's go to your place or let's go to my place. No money mentioned. He assumes that his irresistible personality has excited her. He wakes up three days later and all his money is gone. The drug girls aren't going to say "I want 200,000 pesos" because that might turn some men off and in any case she doesn't want to 200,000 pesos. She (and her accomplices) want all your money.
I have a friend of mine that lives in Concordia Antioquia and she pays $200 a month in rent Wi-Fi included and then she has an additional $300 for food & beverage, cable, cell phone bill and miscellaneous and you just have to live a humble lifestyle. But what is the magic budget to be safe for one person? That's maybe between 25 and 60 and active is it $500 dollars $600 $700 $800. But no more than $1,000. That's the parameters!I mean Concordia is a pueblo of 15k inhabitants...I would think $500 for a single person would be sufficient to get by comfortably, but $1000 seems like too much! $1000 per month in Medellin maybe but not in Concordia. Thoughts?
Can't believe people still have to be taught about the shorts thing, or getting all defensive about it here, lol! It's like become physically impossible for gringos to wear long pants anymore, like they will spontaneously ignite if they do it. Look at old movies and pictures and see what guys had to wear way back then! I've always thought men wearing shorts is almost never a good look; lived in NYC almost all my life, and I know guys here are getting more and more casual, but I still only wear shorts on warm summer weekends. Admittedly, wearing jeans during daytime can get hot in Medellin, much less Cali or the coast. But nowadays, there are plenty of light cotton khakis in all sorts of colors, and the "tech pants," or even cotton-linen blends. To be fair, I recently came back from Jamaica, and it was hot and humid as all heck over there. I wore the lightest shorts and sweat-wicking tops during daytime to survive, lol. As one of the very few white guys in a non-touristic area of Jamaica, was going to stand out anyway, ha ha, but yeah, most of the local men there wore jeans and polos, almost no shorts and Jamaica is WAY hotter than Medallo!
Belen is nice. I have also stayed in La Candelaria. Use common sense and don't do stupid sh!t you would not do in the US, so you don't get robbed by thieves or women. I went to Medellin last month, now the bus from MDE to San Diego is $14K COP. When they ask if you want the "service" separate say yes, so they don't include the tip in the bill. You can leave whatever you want on your own.

I came back from Medellín a few days ago. One day I decided to wear shorts cause it was super hot and in Medellín it’s literally uphill everywhere you go. People did look at me but I I didn’t care as long if I was comfortable.

Not only that there's really nothing to see. At least the people that go to rio or Bangkok there's actually wonders of the world etc. Colombia, DR, Mexico there's nothing spectacular worth it. Flying all the way there just to get pros is unfathomable tbh
