Uh, I could never call being beaten by NZ an honour. Not sure I would ever even enjoy being beaten by any team particularly the ABs but what I did have for that man was respect. He was a fantastic athlete. Just a pity he didn't play for South Africa although I think if he did he would probably get a little chirped at for being a model. Not sure.

@@JayKay-on2gr for me, my favourite game from Dan Carter was the second test in the 2005 lions/NZ series. It was raining heavily and thus NZ's usually incredible running game was neutralized. Keep in mind, this was when Carter was still really young and only recently put in as a fly-half (I think the Crusaders still played him at 13 at the start of the season). What followed was just a masterclass of tactical and positional kicking and Carter cemented himself that day in my mind as probably the best rugby player I've ever seen.

All those players are one dimensional next to Dan Carter. He had far more to his play.

Great in the amateur era but Carter would have played him off the park - standards had moved on so far by the time the latter was playing. Have a look at the appalling defending in John's day and the amout of errors made generally. Carter was better than all of the above - easily. He's the most complete back ever, and he completed the best individual performance ever in the 2nd Test against the British Lions in 2005.

Nothing here to rival Barry John in New Zealand in 1971 with the British Lions. His panache almost makes Dan Carter look pedestrian and not sure if Carter even demonstrates the same skill level as Phil Bennett or Jonathan (Jiffy) Davies at his nonchalant peak.

phil bennett and Bary John weren't too shabby either.

We are blessed to be two great rugby union nations. This year the Bokke played with absolute focus and unified self control and It is our turn to be humbled and in awe, what an incredible final. South Africa have now got back to back RWC winning titles and have always been one of two best in the world - we knew you’d be back. We wouldn’t want any other team to be on the journey with. Love NZ.
