Honorable mentions: 1. Yokozuna won the WWF Championship from Bret Hart at Wrestlemania IX only to lose it two minutes later to Hulk Hogan. 2. Seth Rollins at Money in the Bank 2016 won the WWE Championship from Roman Reigns but lost the title a minute later after Dean Ambrose cashed in the MITB briefcase. 3. Mickie James at a house show in Paris, France won the WWE Women's title in a triple threat match only to lose it back to Melina in an immediate rematch. 4. Charlotte Flair in 2019 at Money in the Bank won the Smackdown Women's title from Becky Lynch but lost it minutes later after Bayley cashed in her MITB briefcase.
I was a massive Cena hater, and hearing about that all I thought was "Yeah, that's sounds like Cena and WWE." I had no idea how much that event would stick to fans. It seemed like it was the first time Cena has destroyed someone they liked and it made them realize why people hated Cena. Stuff like that is in part why Face/Face are usually seen as bad booking, because people don't like a guaranteed bad result.
I thought the same thing. He could’ve AT LEAST waited a week or had an injury angle where Rey had to relinquish the title and had Cena battle for the title vs Punk at Summerslam
@@tinotica Well that kind of led into the OTHER reason why Rey losing to Cena wasn't the big talking point of the time, because others were baffled that Punk was already back when the smartest thing would be to let him leave for months. Cena re-winning the title from Miz or Truth after like a 2-3 month program, then having a Punk return makes enough sense, especially since that would have lined up with "Night of Champions". Not getting a proper "Summer of Punk" seemed to also stick with people as I even remember people talking about that as a reason why they wanted him to beat Hangman: To get the Summer of Punk we never got. Sadly, it's all just chasing moments that we should have all moved past. I wonder if we'll get an equivalent following for a Mysterio beats Cena match?
A very fitting #1 considering the legends involved & the angle itself in the history of pro wrestling setting a Record that still stands to this day in US Network TV History.
@@gordonjamescowiestdoesn’t count since WWE does not recognize him as to winning the title similar to how Daniel Bryan’s MITB original cash in was reversed because of reasons
I was actually a big fan of the Triple H reign at No Mercy 2007. To me it just made the show very unique. You got a title win, a defense, and a loss all in one night. They kept the announced matches of Triple H vs. Umaga and the Last Man Standing Match. It makes it one of the non-main PPVs that is more memorable.
The Ray Cena thing happened when I was still a kid, and I liked both guys. But even then I still didn't like that John as the respectable baby face (again, I was a child) faced another baby face like Rey after having already wrestled that night was baffling to me
Honorable mentions: -Charlotte Flair at MITB 2019 -Jeff Hardy at Extreme Rules 2009 -Yokozuna at Wrestlemania 9 -Roman Reigns at Survivor Series 2016 -Cena at Elimination Chamber 2010 -Big Show at TLC 2011 -Seth Rollins at MITB 2016
In a lot of the champions were just handed the belt . One glaring omission from all this though Yokozuna who beat Bret Hart at WrestleMania 9 then was immediately beaten by Hulk Hogan .
So does Brian Kendrick then get to walk around saying he is a 1 time WWE Champion? He did technically hold the title for like 10 minutes during that gauntlet match back in the day.
Gauntlet match? I don't know about that, but I do know that Brian Kendrick held the WWE championship for a little while during the Unforgiven 2008 WWE championship Scramble match. Brian Kendrick was known as The Brian Kendrick & was utilizing his "Man With A Plan" entrance theme during a time on Smackdown & Raw in 2009 after being drafted back to Raw until being released during the summer. Side note: I love his "Man With A Plan" entrance theme to this day.
I would have put Edge on here for the unique way he did it. He lost the title in the opening chamber and then won the other world title in the second chamber match. Also, huge shout out to HHH for wrestling 3 world title matches including a last man standing match in the same night
That doesn't fit the topic of the video though. The topic is title reigns that lasted less than a day. This means you have to win and then lose the title, not what Edge did which was lose a title, then win a completely different title.
What about Seth Rollins at Money At the Bank? That was the only team three former stablemates of the The Shield had the WWE Championship for a night. Roman Reigns lost to Seth, who lost to Dean Ambrose. Plus, it was ironic for Seth, who won the MITB briefcase years earlier.
Honestly I was hoping when I saw the title to see No Mercy 07 when Randy Orton was awarded the WWE title, lost it to Triple H in the opener, Triple H defended against Umaga, and then lost the WWE title back to Orton in a Last Man Standing match in the main event Edit: not disappointed at all
Pretty sure that title of "easiest MitB cash in of all time" goes to Asuka, who was simply given the Raw Women's Championship by Becky Lynch one night after winning the briefcase.
I liked the Triple H-Randy Orton WWE title hot potato. It set the tone for Orton’s smarmy, cowardly heel persona during his entire reign and made it more compelling when Hunter eventually dethroned him for good the following year.
13:03 I’ve never understood with heel guest referees why they just don’t do this all the time…kayfabe makes no sense. Andre didn’t lose that WWF title, he sold it to Ted Dibase.
I’d give the nod to Money in the Bank 2016 when Ambrose cashed in on Rollins after beating Reigns Understandably, don’t want too many cash ins on this list
