I have to comment on your excellent layout. All the critical info that is always needed is included in the descriptive box (speed, range, charge time, accel, and of course price). Thank you very much for all this hard work.
Are these tiny cars just death traps for drivers or a real deal solution for overcrowded roads and mobile transportation within the city? Share with us in the comments! Which ones are your favorite, tell us all!
All cars are death traps, it all depends on the drivers, but i like the idea of e-cars, we just need better battery tech, so im wating till fisher launches there new battery tech, to see if it is as good as they claim.. Thanks for the video, cheers :)
Hey there. I totally agree with you. It all depends on a driving culture in a specific region and a driving style of a person. As to the battery tech, I strongly believe that such tiny city cars do not need 300 miles of range as on average people drive only 30 miles per day.
Hi! These cars are meant to function as city commuters so they would not be used at highway speeds. They are also popular in Europe, but the region's motor vehicles fatality rate is much lower than it is in the US.
Well i thought the same thing about the smart car which has the safest crash cage in HISTORY using the mercedes egg shell frame! However, i dont know if this will have anything>?
I think there will be a period of adaptation while shifting from internal combustion engines powered vehicles to small electrical motor vehicles. This period will be unsafe for the smaller vehicle users, but as their numbers increase, the danger should decrease proportionally.
If Sondors can produce that vehicle as specified, it will not have the production capacity to satisfy demand. Truly an amazing package, move over Honda Sports EV my new dream car has arrived!
My opinion, even though all these cars may have a place on the road looks like only two or three of them are practical for everyday use. The one that I would choose for everyday use will be the arcimoto good range easy to get into and to get out of.
Thanks for creating this little compendium. Of this bunch, the only one I could see myself driving would be the microlino. At least it's worth a closer look. But the first question probably would have to be whether I could even fit into the thing. If not, nothing else really matters.
I like the Sondors, it is of a decent size, carries three people. Speaking of driving this trike in Calif. it will require the driver to have a motorcycle license, which I already have.
I don't understand how the amperae, the cheapest of all of them, because it takes 8 seconds to hit 60 miles an hour is lacking in performance? And it goes up to 75 miles per hour. You don't see the bias in your article? Compared to the $15,000 pieces of junk that carry one person?
You are welcome. If you are interested in this topic, check out this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KxdVn1T50bM.html It is much more up to date.
Most people do not take more than 3-4 long trips per year. If you crunch the numbers you are better off renting something for those "bigger" trips than owning.
@@bradquinn4161 I think you may be right. But I have family, 3-4 hours drive away, that I visit regularly. And I also would not want a tiny little car for grocery shopping. I have 6 people in my family. I shop at Sam's. Tiny cars don't give me enough room. But I definitely see your point.
The Sondor and Microlino Concept (a'la Isetta) are great-looking/functioning designs that I would love to park in my garage, right next to the replica of the Infiniti Prototype 9 that I will NEED to build to make my life complete...lol
I'm in the process of designing and building my own 3-wheel tyke and the only thing I'm concerned about is the bigger heavier cars on the road already. You see; these vehicles are little more than electric bicycles and if your hit by any type of internal combustion driven machine you're not going to come out alive. I think wear headed in the right direction, but; it's going to be a bloody transition.
On #6 you said that the light weight enabled it to hit a certain mph. Weight is a factor in acceleration, but not top speed. Top speed is determined by drag and power.
Microlina front entry door is a flaw in the design Sondors is now deceased along with Elio, Bricklin, DeLoreon The Xev is not street legal at any price.
Most of the Microlino video was actually an Isetta. One issue with lightweight electric cars is regen, means the brakes hardly get used. Maybe it's OK in California, but in wet climates with salty roads they seize up.
I enjoy these more when you narrate rather then having to read off of my phone. I liked the 3D printed LSEV for 7.5. I’d pay a bit more for 4WD. Does it have Lithium ion batteries?
Hi there. I changed the format recently and went to the full narration of the videos. There is no info about LSEV battery technology. most likely it has lead acid batteries, due to such low price.
Interesting video. But not all specs are correct. The Uniti, for instance, has obviously 4 wheels and is said to feature a 22 kWh battery. I miss the Sion, a solar driven EV being developed by German start-up Sono Motors.
The aesthetic of the 3-wheelers are sometimes off... Not sure why they maintain the style of a full car towards the rear. Making them look odd. It would look cooler if the rear of the cars looked more like that of a motor bike. All the ones that look okay tend towards that.
Yes I like the Sondors and the Isetta for it's classic retro flair , I have seen another that I liked that wasn't shown I think it was called the Nora or something like that!
I agree that the Sonders EV seems the best at least in my case. I have interstate bridges to cross that require a minimal speed. The range diminishes anxiety as well as the price. Sadly some of the others I really like have to low of a speed. This would require longer routes and cut the actual distance I could drive. Also it is enclosed so the weather here would not limit its use.
Maybe cities should add more commuter lanes dedicated for these types of small cars, because of the safety concerns in the US. Also, I like the sondors and solo 3 wheel vehicles, but seems like sondors has an obvious edge because of 2 seats and more affordable. Plus, its an american company.
In China you can buy short-range city electric cars from 1000$, some of these contraptions without a roof have questionable value even against the premium US-made electric scooter for around 1600$...
@@sampla86 only if you somehow manage to build something in third world country and then sell it in the West without tariffs... China already producing electric mini cars from 1000$ but these cars with speed comparable to high-performance e-scooters would not even pass Western road safety regulations. China's labor is currently cheaper than 3D printing in the West, whatever you talk about 3D printing of plastics or far more expensive metal 3D printing by binding metal dust with laser... Current 3D printing of metals is really really slow and laser capable melt metal dust also did not scream power efficiency, even if you try to produce car using 3D printing of plastic body which itself may be cheap on material & power consumption, you would need hundreds of expensive 3D printers to have production rates comparable to a few metal sheet pressing machines for producing car body parts later welded together, so once you would try to scale up production, your production cost may not be that cheap as imagined due to the necessity to have large temperature-regulated facility for all that 3D printers producing car body parts in any reasonable numbers, and that's a tough sell for luring investors into large initial investments just to produce some plastic car people avoid like a plague by choosing higher performance and safer used car for similar or lower price...
The problem is that micro cars don't meet North American passenger car safety regulations. Many of them try to get around this by only having three wheels so they can qualify as motorcycles but not all jurisdictions allow this. The big market is usually California and in that state there is a new car category to allow such cars without requiring the driver to have a motorcycle license and wear a helmet but again this isn't consistent across all jurisdictions. We need a concerted effort to allow such cars across all states if we expect them to gain a market share. I believe that reducing the safety regulations might be justified if the microcars were also to be autonomous as autonomous vehicles would be less likely to cause accidents. Unfortunately, no microcar to date have been autonomous.
Hi, John. I am aware of these regulations, so most models showcased in this video are street legal only in some European countries. As to the autonomous technology, it still needs to be perfected to become applicable for microcars, in my opinion.
Hi, are you referring to Sondors EV? The video was released over year ago, and it had the projected pricing of $10k. Considering that we are talking about electric cars, it is no wonder Sounders could not keep the price so low and it went up. It is now available for pre-order. Also, the title clearly states that the video is about future transport.
Regarding number 4, the Ampere The One... My dudes, do you even know how fast you think 75mph is gonna be in this tiny barchetta with your ass 3 inches above the road? Purely in subjective impression it'll be faster than a supercar. 75mph is more than enough.
Hi, there. Thanks for your comment. The video is quite old, and since then I have become convinced that driving dynamics is all about acceleration. Since the Ampere One is so lightweight and all-electric, it could be quite fun to drive. And perception matters too, I agree
For $7700 I can buy an fully enclosed ZEV Electric trike (the 5 door one with the hatch rear) with 80 mile range and a heater, windshield wipers, etc. I want one with the 100 mile range option, still less than an Arcimoto
My issue is all of theirs I've seen have the single wheel in front. That means you can't corner near as fast as a reverse trike. That stability issue is a non starter for me. The Sondors is very desirable.
one wheel in front does not mean what you say even remotely. Weight distribution fore and aft and CG above the ground determine that. This is why the Nissan Delta Dart with the two front wheels together in the front won at LeMans and why the Trivette pulls 1.2 + on the skid pad. Wish there was some legal way to cause a betting pool to take money off of people who believe as you do.
@@kittyhooch1 ....You're getting confused with old episodes of Mr.Bean, where he would run across that other nerdy guy in the Reliant Regal while driving his Austin Mini. That one tips because the engine resides above the single wheel, ZEV electric trikes have motors and batteries [and will soon have range extenders] centre and aft of the driver, with much lower centre of gravity. BTW, fast cornering, three wheels or four, especially in winter, causes most of the single car accidents. People simply forget Newton's Laws of Motion and the Rule of Friction in respect to tyres[tires for you Yanks]. Slow down, live longer, but I would like the T3 series to be able to do 65mph=110km/h so I'm not stuck to just in town.
As an around town and a commuter vehicle is where these vehicles will shine. Wish I had one right now for my running around today. I wouldn't take any of them on the highway because there seem to be more idiot drivers that don't pay attention to their surroundings.
True. Before the.majority of cars on the roads have been downsized it is better to stay away from huge pickups on highways . What model is the most promising in your opinion?
My favorite of them all is the Sondors EV for my needs. Practical, good range for my needs, very handsome vehicle in my opinion. I have a $100 reserved production spot for an Arcimoto ev and own 200 shares of FUV stock in my portfolio. FUV is on the Nasdaq exchange. The Infinity PEV if it were a two seater I'd be interested. The Edison2 ev is pretty too but suffers from a high price tag and very limited storage. With all this talk of three wheelers I dusted off my set of plans for a three wheeler blast from the past called the Tri Magnum.. VW front end motorcycle back end and composite body.
Hi, John. Thanks for the info, do you mean Honda Urban EV? I know that it should be released in Europe this year and in Japan in 2020, but I have not heard anything about the US release.
Why some of this companies insist in just one seater 💺? Rethinking again at least two seaters, you know we like to talk and have some company and some luggage compartments too.
Hi there. I think most of these were created as city cars for everyday sort distance driving, so the emphasis is on compactness. However, I do agree that 2-seaters would probably sell better
Hi. This video was released in 2018 so the pricing is definitely off. As it turns out I was too optimistic about these models, thought most would make it to production lines by 2020.
Yes, Pueblo will have a new Mayor for the first time in years. The Renewable Energy Owners Coalition of America (reoca.org) will hopefully have a seat at one of the Mayors’ Citizen Advisory Councils, where we will seek solutions to the problem of Pueblo’s commitment to 100% renewable energy by 2035. We believe vehicle-to-grid (V2G) systems coupled with distributed generation will play a vital role in achieving this goal and democratize power generation and consumption. Keep an eye on Pueblo, Gateway to the Southwest and soon to be solar energy capital of Colorado.
Thanks for the comment. I would call these " weekend vehicles". You see there is no rain, you get on the road and drive around for fun. If it rains, you are screwed if you forgot an umbrella ;)
Yeah, but with an enclosed seating area, they would be great for commuter vehicles, better gas mileage, and cheaper insurance. If the top were removable, still fun on weekends (hard top, not a rag top).
Ron Gonshorowski I hope to drive down to Eugene (from WA) later this year to test-drive the SRK. But I hate the idea of paying extra for side panel enclosures!
In the future one will get a bill from the government for their highway mileage (TAXATION) because Gasoline Pumps will be gone and they will realize they ain't in your pocket ever time you fill up.
I'd prefer one that can function decently offroad. With the ability to fit a regular washing machine without the second passenger. And a convertible roof. Definitely needs doors with windows. And if the main undercarriage battery can't be roadside station swappable, at least 30-40% should be, perhaps located in the "frunk" in the form factor of 3 briefcases. And please, do put some effort into making it look more like a mustang than a smart.
The second car seems to be a very good ratio beauty/price. Most other cars are too expensive for what they offer in comfort and space. The Microlino looks nice, but is as expensive as the small Fiat: it won't become a hugh commercial success; that's written in the stars.
Hi, Benoit. Many of these still have not come out. Check out my new video about small electric cars of 2020-2021: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KxdVn1T50bM.html Most of them are already in production
i do like all these futuristic cars they are amazing i know which car i would get though a sporty looking one if they ever build one not a tesla something completely futuristic or Old sci fi style
The interesting thing is the price point of alot of these cars is more than a fully sized used car. I can get a used honda or toyota or mazda that less then $5000 and in very good condition. Makes it a hard sell to me really. Like the #8 infinity & #10 edison alot since it gets away from the blah boxes of the modern age and goes for a cool fun early retro style. Unfortunately it wont look that cool with all the safety features like bumpers installed. Personally I think E-racing would help advance electric vehicles alot. All these 3 wheeled vehicles are more in the motorcycle category and skirt the safety laws for 4 wheeled cars which is great because of freedom, but i think once this 3 wheel skirting of the safety laws gets more mainstream you will see new requirements for them as tough as 4 wheeled vehicles.
As I come from a very small country of only 25 million people I am wondering whether any of these vehicles will pass homolagation testing to be available here.
Well, in this case, it might take some time. But Australia is a big market, so if there is demand, hopefully, we will see these electric cars on the streets soon
I don't like the styling of trying to make these three wheelers look like cars from the front. Looks tacky and goofy. Most excited for the Arcimoto. Have a little stock in them, hopefully it takes off.
@@AutomotiveTerritoryDailyNews I heard they say they start production in summer, idk if they have produced really much of those though. Btw their price is 4k
Microlino too expensive, Sondors EV better like a grown up T-Rex, LSEV even better thought through design good price point, Ampere Motor The One a fair weather toy, Arcimoto SRK Another fair weather toy, E-GO Life better thought through design price point too high, Electra Meccanica Solo better thought through design price point too high, Infiniti Prototype 9 another toy , Uniti good design price point too high too tech, Vanderhall another toy too high a price.
Gianfranco Purpura : dal momento che consumo energia elettrica per viaggiare perché non recuperarne un po' utilizzando un generatore eolico, ad asse verticale, posto esternamente da qualche parte dell'automobile? Questo erogherà energia ... per sempre.
Michael Smith I am still getting their emails and they do have a large factory that could be used for some of these electric versions. The USA is the only place where you get an actual return on your money. The other countries you get $98 back for every $100 .
i would like one, but they will have to do something about the front suspension, it is realy bad. it should corner like a small lotus. it is all over the place, i know it is an early concept, but has got to be stiffened up, americans are used to large wallowing tanks that can,t corner, that is no fun or use in europe. i have had 3 wheelers, my first was a bubble car, and most 4 wheel cars in its day could not get near me on a narrow twisty winding road. where can i buy one, maybe have to do my own mods. paul
i thought there was only one model, as seen in the videos, i would want the largest battery, the quickest o to 60 mph, best range, are you going to do something about the suspension?? when can we see them in the uk? i would really like a toyota i road with a 250cc engine or e type with higher speed and range, i wish car makers would copy some of the better designs and improve them, instead of making a new concept car. i would like to see someone copy the zagato volpe never put on the road, the best all round idea so far made. the designing and tooling already done, where is it?? you could have done it. proposed price was around 10,000 euros, would have sold like hot cakes, pity it did not lean as well. but we can,t have everything.
