These are really good points, I think your enthesis on the banner man is a huge point, even in late game armies the unit carries home as far as I'm aware it is the only unit that does both bulwark buffing and warding buffing, which makes it incredibly versatile, then add in the heal and I think it can often salvage the late game, its at the point that I think the knight should be there tier 2 unit and the bannerman there tier 3 XD

Feels like a good candidate culture for a mount trait and the beast tome, to really help bring your Knights into endgame. Haven't tried feudal yet though.
@Zeroshooter21
@Zeroshooter21 Год назад
Tried the special mount wolf playstyle with dark culture due to cull the weak trait but kind of lost synergy in the end(and the too long to get to tier 3 dark knights). But using this culture and the pack leader trait from beast tome might be better.

I played Beast Tome and Feudal Culture with Wolf Mount and Overwhelm Tactics, but I didn’t see any indication that the Animal Kinship minor race transformation was procing. Still lots of strong synergy by levelling my ruler with support skills like Feudal Ruler and Strength Training.

Literally came to see if it would be a good culture for a spider mount archer build with animal summons should work well? Going into story realm 4
@zentonil

@@gakhouse1636 Tome of Roots and T1 Materium Tome of Enchantment are also very powerful for an archer build. Roots will let you summon 5 immobilizing vines which are targeted by AI and enchantment gives a +1 ranged buff. T2 Tome of Glades will give you a debuffing T3 archer and I’ve heard the T3 (?) Materium Tome of Wind Zephyr archer is very powerful too but I haven’t had a chance to use them yet.
@TheGreyshanks
@TheGreyshanks Год назад
@@zentonil T2 Mat Tome of Winds is the Zephyr Archer. In my opinion best archer in the game, even outclassing the Nature Archers. They can get to range 10, which is huge. Doomstacks with just those guys get some work done if you play your cards right

Man, your videos are amazing! I really love watching them. You make really good points and so I can't wait for the advanced guides and I can try and help you with them a little 🙃 Feudal is so far my favorite culture because it's got a nice design and everything is so synergistic. I've played it 3 times so far in VERY long and difficult games, and they're SO freaking adaptable to any situation, and you can make basically any build, Good or Evil, magic or cultural, and I love how important hero is and how good your "trash" unit is - Peasant Pikeman. Your hero is the linchpin of the army and everything around just works. Your units are cheap and effective, and the Bannerman is the bread and butter like you said, and you basically need one or two in every army, then you're golden. From what I've seen so far, the Hero usually has to focus on damage when playing Feudal, at least with signature skills. Because while Knight carries hard into the late game with its Heavy Charge, as you said, you start missing damage and magic later if not careful with your build. In some armies I add in Elementals, in some I added Enchantments to Knights, in one I had some Eldritch monsters for damage, but yeah, magic and damage start lacking if not overly careful. It's usually also very advisable if you have many heroes, because even if you go over the cap and pay more, just the Feudal Lord skills are really worth it. You just need your hero to be level 2 and you get a skill stronger than any early game structure. I really like those, how useful they are, simple and effective. Just watch that the heroes with governor skills are always assigned to cities. But even if going with Chosen Destroyers, I think that Feudal can still be strong, because you have so many cheap units that you can still field many armies, despite only having one city. So for the advanced guides - regarding knowledge in Feudal: Firstly, you can build more Knowledge structures in your many cities, which you already said. If you're still lacking, there's also a nice and fast way to kickstart your early game in terms of knowledge, if you're going for a magic victory, or if you want to make a complex build where you need many tomes (you don't usually, but there's always an option). While your first Hero will usually be the main attacker and take Lord of War skill, for the second one you can easily take Lord of Knowledge skill, which is 15 Knowledge / Turn, 30 with Lord's Manor 😁 Another thing is that Feudal works very well with Vassalage. You get vassals, vassals give you knowledge. While that's not for every build, you naturally dip into Order Affinity, so anything appart from Chosen Destroyers will work with that. More, if you want to go for knowledge build, a really good tome for Feudal start is Faith, which gives you even cheaper units, Order affinity gives you more exp. (for hero and Peasant Pikemen), you get a really strong Unit Enchantment for Bannerman, a spell for easier vassalage, as well as two knowledge structures - Convent and Abbey. Another way is to start with Cryomancy, where you have a knowledge building School of Cryomancy, and you get lots of knowledge from Shadow affinity. You also get the White Witch, which is a really strong ranged magic unit, and Lesser Snow Spirit, which can evolve into a REALLY strong magic hybrid called Snow Spirit. You also get magic damage spells, a stun and two Unit Enchantments for archers and melee, which is like a perfect combination. This requires a specific build, but it's entirely possible and a very strong option. One thing I've also seen people forget is that a tile improvement like School of Cryomancy doesn't need to be built on a tile of the same type. You can easily exchange a Farm or a Quarry for a School of Cryomancy (Research Post) if you need to get more adjecency bonuses, like for example a Soulwell. So while School of Cryomancy is amazing on snow, it can still be very strong on any other terrain when designing your city outer.

Hey there! Barbarians will be released later today =) I am working on a deeper analysis towards "ideal combinations" between tomes and unit types. I'm not planning on Tier Lists yet, but as soon as I have deeper understanding I will do another video about what combos are most busted and which cultures seem to be a bit more powerful than the rest. Have a wonderful day =)

@Ic0n Gaming well, one Age of Wonders tip that you glossed over (and maybe by video format) is the Synergy of Fuedal with the Nature Tombs and archers. I chose a custom faction and made Fuedal Elves who are legendary archers with quick reflexes (to dodge incoming fire) and chose the Tier-1 Nature Tomb with blighted arrows and vines. (My second tier-1 Tomb gave archers extended range). Then tier-2 Nature Tomb that gives you Tier-3 Archers you can build at all your Fuedal cities. Strategy is: 2 pikemen 2 archers 1 bannerman 1 Hero (Archer specialized ofc) or 3rd archer Per stack. Form lines, Pikemen to protect, bannerman to buff, archers behind Pikemen, hold your ground. Cast vines that pin down his troops, and slaughter at will. Blighted extended range arrows protected by Pikemen and enemies slowed by vines ftw... then get Tier-3 archers with your 2nd Nature Tomb and it's lights out! The stand together Fuedal bonus and Bannerman only strengthen this strategy... I was sad you never once mentioned the archers! (This is an adaptation of my old AoW3 elven strategy that always could defeat any enemy army).

Did the same but Humans xD was going for a Brettonia vibe from Warhammer...now it's slowly changing to materium tomes. So maybe metal knights.

@@Ic0nGaming look at the dark and gritty beautifulness of AoW 1 then combine it with the freedom of 4.. would make a damn solid game.
@wolfshanze5980
@wolfshanze5980 Год назад
@Andy Last Name ya, I mean the way AoW4 is setup, race is completely generic... it could be fuedal orcs who are legendary archers with quick reflexes. I suppose that's both a good and bad thing? I'm still on the fence about generic races... regardless, great human archers, great elven archers... either way, the Synergy with Nature Tombs is awesome. I'm at work, couldn't recall the tier-1 Tomb that gave extended range, but I think it was Materium? It also gave me copper gollum pikemen or something like that. I just wanted the extended archer range, but yeah this strategy sure works awesome!

Feudal and order synergize so well. I didnt know about the 'promotion' mechanic to go up unit tiers, but it makes the order bonus for 20% exp gain with pikes, shields and warriors so nice with feudal.

I have a content suggestion if you don’t mind. Maybe do an army composition guide. I have a hard time getting everything I want in 1 stack, I gets easier when I have two or more. But this video and the unit talk really made me realize I could use a guide on how to structure your army ideally.

Hello! I have loved the content of the channel so far. I am new to 4x games, and these have helped me understand a lot, but I have a question. I have tried to find the answer online, but to no luck. What do you mean by integrating a new culture? Is this where you become the vassal of a free city and intrigate it into your empire?

I think you may have just opened my eyes as to why I've been HATING the feudal culture. basically, I've not focused enough on spearmen. I've been extremely frustrated with always losing spears on early match auto resolves and have moved away from them. Now that I know that they're not super strong on their own but easy enough to overwhelm with, I'm really looking forward to trying another play through. I'm thinking i need to focus on spamming out a handful of them rather than trying to keep them alive acting as a tank.

Feudal with order and nature affinities can end up with some absolutely absurd animals and plants. My last playthrough I was rocking hawk riders and phoenix. That combo is so absurdly stupid with all the buffs and what not. Though you can also go with the tyrant knights from order as well.

Great video and I agree with your take on the bannerman. I've been having a ton of fun playing a Knights of the Round Table feudal culture game. That said, I winced every time you said the word "morale". Not sure if it's a second language issue or not, but the word is pronounced "more ale". I've seen a lot of Europeans youtubers covering this game make the same mistake. Either way great video and I'll be looking to watch any videos you have on the other cultures. Have Fun :)!
