As a German I must say: you should’ve went straight for it and do the whole video in that accent lmaooo! Almost spilled my morningbeer on my Lederhosen cracking up to this😂😂😂
Now THAT's a conversation starter: "Hey, is this a moon phase complication?" - "It's a GERMAN moon phase complication. It shows you the best time to kill at night without artificial light."
I bought a Junker Flieger about 18 months ago for around $350 and it's really well built. I opted for a quartz but it has a sapphire crystal. It's a solid build. It's a great everyday watch.
Sinn has gone Sellita. Don’t like that. I just got 556i Emerald Green special edition. It has SW200-1 inside. My Damasko DS30 with ETA 2428-2 is just a much better watch. Has better accuracy, case quality and usability.
Hunting feral pigs is considered eliminating pests. It is not considered sport hunting like for deer. For pig hunting, most states have no season and no rules.
Texas is filthy with the damn things. They destroy millions in crops every year. You can literally hire helicopter companies to take you up and you shoot them out the side in mid air with an ar15.. pretty awesome.
You should look at the Archimede Outdoor as well. Ickler (who owns Archimede) have been making watch cases for almost a century, and the Outdoor has a really unique barrel case with shrouded lugs and has case hardening as well
I fell for Junghans Max Bill some time ago. Love the aesthetics, love the ‚4’ on the dial, love the story behind it. After your video I think I need to read more on Glashutte, thanks for that
Hey Jory I feel your pain. Long time sub here but maybe my first comment. We all appreciate the quality of German Watch making and Engineering, and very rightly so. However, if you are as old as i, or maybe your Grand Father we have emotions and history to deal with. We all like modern Germany and it's people. We want to forget but hey, if you lost your whole family somewhere in history sometimes buying German is difficult. In my adult life I have bought Cars and Watches made in Germany. Because very often they are the better. But even now I struggle to wear Gold.
I moved to Germany from the States a few years ago and I’d never heard of Junghans, Laco, or Sinn before I arrived. I love them all. Especially how minimalistic the Max Bill is.
The Time Teller It doesn’t matter when they changed location. From a legal perspective they are Swiss. Besides, nobody in Europe would label them German.
Hey Jory, I just wanted to let you know that this video inspired me to buy the Stowa Flieger 6498 Bronze Vintage . The finishing on the movement and watch overall for the price point is fantastic in my opinion. The more I wear this watch the more I love it. I wasn't aware of Stowa before seeing this video. Learning that they were one of the original 5 German companies to make Fliegers, in very good company with IWC, makes me love the watch even more. Thank you very much for the post
1. If you are into Lange, try Dornblüth. Lange Quality, family made for from 4000 Euro. 2. In German, the S becomes SH if it stands with a P or T. So Stowa is pronounced Shtowa.
If you like the Damasko DC56 try the DC66 with the 12 hour bezel. One of the best aviation tool chronographs that exist. Just be mindful that the hardened steel is more susceptible to corrosion so keep it dry and its a beast.
Interesting that you called Chronoswiss a German brand. It was founded in Germany, but the brand was moved to Switzerland in 2012, which means that model you mentioned is Swiss made.
They ABSOLUTELY ARE!! Do some research on Damasko’s if you are not familiar with them....THE best bang for your buck watches on the planet, hands down. I have several watches that are WAY more expensive...but I would put my Damasko’s up agains Any On the planet...especially as a tool watch.
I have German Heritage......English, Dutch, Irish, Jewish, French, and Cherokee......does that make me a “Hound Dog?” I would Love A. Lange & Sohne! Datograph! Sinn! Damasko has a Chrono I want... Glushutte is a Beautiful Timepiece! Thanks for another awesome Video!
My personal favorite watch is German made. It’s made by a company called Marc and Sons. A smaller company from what I understand, founded in 2006 apparently. I got their Automatic Vintage Pilot watch and absolutely love it. I’m aspiring to be a pilot, and I wanted to get a pilot’s watch that looked like something from the instrument panel on a cockpit, but also wasn’t a crazy busy dial, and this watch was the only thing that fit the bill for me. It uses a Miyota 8217 movement, has sapphire glass, 10 ATM water resistance, a date complication, and the hands and numbers on the dial glow in the dark. I seriously love this watch but have never seen anyone review or talk about it. Maybe the Time Teller could be the first?
Jory you are spot on with your comments about Glashutte Original being under rated. My last purchase was the PanoMaticLunar and the finishing and dial layout is really cool.
Oris big crown propilot chronograph GMT is very hard to find, as it was discontinued in the first year. I have one (not bragging), and recommend you grab it if you can find it. It is my favorite watch of my collection.
I'm saving up for a Sinn U2-S (I have the wrist size to wear it). It was great to see Damasco mentioned. Their lumed white dial versions are pretty cool. They also have a their own patented steel hardening process (they made Sinn cases once upon a time). If you want a tool watch, they don't get much more toolier. A. Lange & Sohne kind of goes without saying. Glashutte often gets pushed aside as a lesser brand, but they are actually the company that's been in continuous operation. At their best, they match or even outdo ALS. Their PanoRetroGraph is pretty much the most insane chronograph I know of. Counts up, counts down, setable repeatable timer with a chime. Oh and it's a flyback with a panograph date.
Animals feed on a "Major" ( moon strait up) and "Minor" (moon strait down on the posit side of the planet) feed according to the moon phase. Fish follow the same moon phase. These would be handy watched for hunting and fishing.
The only thing that makes the panomatic lunar a bit silly is that lettering telling you 'this here is the moonphase', and 'this here is the date window'...
got my stowa flieger bronze, love it! The handwind version shows so much more of the workings. Stowas customer service is great too, really good option around 1k
GMT and UTC are basically the same. The Greenwich Mean Time is an older naming convention, sought to be replaced by Universal Time Coordinates. One reason is because GMT is one of the actual time zone in Europe, and to avoid confusion because you can select any other time zone. Europe (and in this case, Germany) is like that, precision even in naming schemes.
You have of course the watches you mentioned, But Germany has other makers. I would like to mention a couple of these. Nomos is a relative new brand with started from scratch after the reunification with a Pesseux 7001 (if I am correct) and evolved to a company who managed to make their in-house movements. Not to forget Junghans famous for their electric clocks and unfortunately detonators. For business/ethical reasons they split the company , they have a great lineup of Bauhaus inspired watches (mostly with Swiss calibers) and their Mega lineup of watches (Quartz watches who synchronizes with the various worldwide atomic clocks on LW) to my knowledge these are in-house developed movements. Perhaps not so fancy as the mechanical counterparts but worth mentioning.
Apart from the Lange and Sohne, the Rose Gold, Black dial, Chronoswiss Sirius Retrograde day is the one, its different but different in one real nice way.
You may be right about the plieger verses nautical but you have to remember that there are much more airplanes at the bottom of the sea as opposed to submarines in the clouds.
You should take a look at the Archimede Outdoor series. Kind of up your alley field watch. Two sizes , lots of colors and different case materials. I own the outdoor antimagnetic 41. Great watch .
I love what you did for Glashütte original. The last one is my personal favourite. Some other brands from the same town: Union (they have some pieces that could be mistaken for the Longines Master, same pricerange though), the Belisar, I think, moonphase, calendar and chrono, bit buzzy. The brand Mühle Glashütte also makes some nice pieces, like the SAR rescue timer, a simple toolwatch with only eye for functionality. They're naughty watches, or nautical?
As a German, great job! Even with the Advent in the beginning. It was funny! And your watch selection was wonderful and educational. Go for the Sinn Hunting. Also, I think you're right on the artificial light regulations. It makes it more sporting. Hunting is a sport, isn't it? It shouldn't be terribly easy. Of course Texicans can be lazy. For my personal pick: Sinn 556i B. Simple, tough every day piece. Keep up the good work.
I just love that Chronoswiss German watch! As an off the wall dress watch, it really works. Plus it is symmetrical. But that asymmetrical Glasshutte is also gorgeous. Damn you Jory, I'm confused now.
There are many watch brands in Germany. Also a lot of microbrands and independent watchmakers who do their own thing. In some cases even with their own manufacture movements that they build in their small family business.
Love your vids. Great one on German watches! I’m looking for a grab, go and forget it watch. Weekend, vacation, whatever. My best guess is probably a field. Something with no date, automatic (but that I can wind), good legibility/lume, decent waterproof rating (I guess 100m), relatively flat in case I wear it to work and need it to fit under a cuff and that’s about it. My wrist is 6.5, so not over 40mm. I guess under $500. Any suggestions? Thanks much!
You pronounced Glashutte fairly well. Nomos is another watch brand within the Glashutte region. I'd say top3 most well known from Glashutte are Lange, Glashutte Original, and Nomos. Nomos definitely the Bauhaus design language of you like that. It's interesting I feel like I'm drawn to more German brands lately than Swiss. And your accent is hilarious!!!
Zinn = Sinn 104 should be standard issue in your collection. Laco..amazing flieger (also have another new GMT that looks amazing. Wempe = Vempe..fliegers are awesome Stowa = Stova...more fliegers...mmmmm ALS..some of the most amazing watches around. Glashutte Original..beautiful. Best alt to ALS and FPJ...although I'd give my right nut for a FPJ. Chronoswiss..well done!!! One of my first loves...I wanted their regulator like it was my job..I just wasn't making enough at the time..it's just plane beautiful. Old school coin edging retro design language. Hand wound or automatic for flieger? What size? 55mm is authentic size. Get the Oris...its swiss made (lol)
Take a look at Dekla watches out of Stuttgart. High quality fliegers made to order, swiss movements and reasonably priced - under a Grand. You just have to be patient because it takes a month to receive one. Thanks, as always for great videos!
Glashutte is the true Lange, Lange bought the name and started a new company where as Glashutte can trace it's heritage with a direct line to A Lange and sohne back in the 1800's, Lange started making watches in Glashutte, the Original in their name is a reference to A.Lange and sohne. Back in the 1800's there was only one watch company from Glashutte.
I'd go with the Damasko if I was shopping for a tool chronograph. It's a little less mainstream than the other two companies, and based on how my Damasko DS30 is running, they seem to be very well regulated out of the factory.
The Senator Tourbillon was my favourite watch for a very long time. Now I’d like to buy the Glashütte Original Panoreserve (the movement is a lot prettier than the one in the Panomatic Lunar in my opinion). At least here in Germany a lot of the Glashütte Original watches are quite affordable on the grey market considering the craftsmanship.
