The lack of affordable options is definitely a stroke against the FAL, but the big kicker as to why I won't get one is that I cannot find mid-cap magazines for it anywhere. I despise hi-caps.
Airsoft made me hate M4s so I refused to run them. Instead I ran with an XM8 that I put a little bit of work into. Along with a vz61 as a backup/for cqb. Absolutely 100% worth it and I'm not just another m4 user on the field.
I feel much the same, I hate getting M4 after M4 when we have so much more to look at. I’ll stick to any of my Galils over any of the M4s I’ve seen and been sent.
Definitely, in general I just like odd guns though. XM8, SL8, F2000, South african vektor, I'd just prefer any thing that unique over what is trendy. I don't want to be just another person following the "cool" convenient trend. That's boring.
My CQB weapons are all SMGs a UMP 1928 with a Colt Python as my pistol For field use I have a M16A1 and a PPSH I can’t stand the M4 they’re just the A1’s gayer little brother

when one of my friends were first starting out in airsoft, he said he didn't want to be a generic m4 user, and said he picked something that most people knew, but wasn't an m4. I asked him what, and he replied "ar-15". I laughed so hard and spent the next 5 minutes explaining that they are just the civilian and military version of the same gun. and he spent the next 3 days trying to make me forget about the moment. my friend still hasn't bought an airsoft gun, but i'll support him either way.
They seem to be pretty common at CQB arenas, the CYMA M3 tri-shot in particular likely because it is cheap and effective. At outdoor fields they are almost nonexistent for the obvious reasons that they are impractical.
Huh. Was considering getting a gas-powered shell-ejecting shotgun. Would be cool to own something more uncommon I suppose, though I'd definitely be stuck with CQB.

They look awful to me. I have a AK74 MN myself but I'm stuck with the iron sights because I can't stand having anything tactical on it. AK is just a simple weapon for Ivan and that's it
There is multiple choices here. Why not use the side mount to put a dot on it or just buy a sight with sidemount included. Maybe a dustcover with a rail. Perhaps get a handguard with a rail on top and have the sight on the front and last maybe you can swap out your iron rear sight and put a TT01 sight mount (if realistic). I dont know anything about your gun just giving examples and trying to help ;) Big AK fan here gonna by one for my first gun soon and know quite a lot about it and the attachements. It is obviously not a M4 that has rails all over it thats why people dont like the AK because they cant find a way to mod them. Nowadays there is a lot of companies that make great mods for the modern tactical use of AK's
I own an APS UAR (Urban Asault Rifle), it takes M4 mags but it´s Bullpup like an STG77 and it has the same barrel length as most M4s have but only beeing 64cm long... It´s a really good gun, but weighs about 3kg... but that weight is on my shoulder so I don´t even feel it...
Harping on m4 players is no different than 18 year olds harping on 10 year olds for being young. We literally ALL start with an m4.... That being said, I can harp on you because thank God I was never a child
Historical guns don't get the love they deserve Imo they're either really expensive or hard to find People probably go with the modern stuff because they're cooler, cheaper, easier to find, and most people use them

I run a G3A3 and people ask if it's a galil all the time, i had a LR300 people ask if it's a galil, ran a galil one day and people ask is it a FAL.....Wtf
I think the SPAS-12 deserves a place on this list or at least an honourable mention, they're so iconic and they look badass but you never really see them much and there aren't many good manufacturers that produce them any more.
i agree but if you tink about it, shotguns arent all that expensive because i was actually thinking about getting one from asg for my first gun that isnt a pistol because of how cheap they are. If a company made one, I would like to see it be either Cyma or ASG
I'm horribly split between a G3 I saw in one of your reviews and a G36 (always loved the shape of these) for my first airsoft gun. Both seem awesome, and it'd be cool to have something different than the majority :)
A lot of the reason why you don't see so many of these guns around is because the M4 and AK are widely used, meaning there is a high chance someone, will have a spare mag for you to use, even if you use Hi-Caps.
Being a person who rocks nothing but exotics (Thompsons, ZB-30s, Skorpions) I may have some insight as to why so few people deviate from AR/AK platforms. I suspect the combination of cost and popularity of the platforms are the leading reasons why the AR platforms are king in the US with AK a close second. The only reason I even am able to field any of my rifles is solely because I was able to find an example UNDER $300 and absolutely did not want either an AR or an AK. And when for the same (and frankly lower) price I could have bought a much more familiar M4 or some other AR derivative... well you can see why so few examples of other platforms make their way to the field.
USAirsoft I didn’t know I was a rarity in airsoft I run a us world war 2 airborne build with a Thompson m1a1 and a 1911 it’s a great time but I thought there were more people like me :(
One of the problems that I had with my KWA scorpion was mag capacity. Until I got an HPA tapped drum mag which completely changed everything it is now one of my favorite platforms to use and has no problem with keeping up, or completely destroying hi capas and most “custom rifles” it does suck a little bit with range.
I think the M4's are so popular because of they're versatility and customization. A lot of the guns you mentioned don't offer these. Airsoft thrives on these things, it's what drives the market. Players say they want to have the most modular weapon platform so they can swap parts and upgrade and make it their own, the companies deliver. It is a shame that we don't see a lot of variety, but simply because of the nature of airsoft it's unlikely we'll get to see an improvement any time soon.
madcuzbad same goes for the real ar15 it's beyond popular and probably the most used rifle in the US. For alot of the same reasons. Since m4/AR are built off the same base not to mention every one wants the tacticool stuff (which I'm guilty of)
Then when you get more parts for a certain gun then more players play that gun, and then more parts are made for it......(vicious cycle), but again not only it's a thing of supply and demand it's also easier for a company to manage their production, because why produce something that is incredibly risky and unpopular if there is the ever so popular M4. I think this is why the Ares Amoeba Striker worked out so well is because they are made specifically for the market - they run off VSR parts such as the barrel and the cocking handle, but they also uses AEG springs which are very very easy to get and has a shorter loading distance. Maybe if things like bullpups with rails and M4 parts compatible and is made cheap enough but has fair performance then the popularity will increase, but nothing beats the M4 and HK416 in popularity. (AK also comes close but their design denies a lot of support in the market)

I own an AUG A3 I've heavily modified so it can function as a DMR, and I absolutely love my baby ^^ Last game I played, I was scoring hits on targets over 80m, and my scouting and positioning was key to win the match. I'd really recommend it to anyone who's on the fence about buying it.
The B.A.R. is one of my favorite weapons in history, and it is certainly a weapon system I plan on acquiring once I can start getting into airsoft. Perhaps, I'll try to build myself a full WW2 loadout for it as well, for the immersion.
I’m from Indiana and I actually just went to my first public game and there were a HUGE variety of guns there. It was actually pretty wild to see. In fact, the least common gun was anything on the m4 platform. I could probably count on one or two hands how many people were there using m4s.
i agree for the tavor platform, i have been using one since my start and let me tell you... it's a real challenge to upgrade and maintain but it is so worth it you can have all the specs of any m4/m16 airsoft in a shorter version and allow you to aim for longer periods since the weight is closer to your shoulder... the other drawback for tavor is also the price tough... both in buying and upgrading so it is better to be prepared
Videos like this make me feel like a hipster running my TM Thompson m1a1 or M14, and my friend still runs his G36. Solid platforms and its sad to see some of them disappearing
10 years ago, you saw every gun on the field. TM made every sort of gun and you could get them into the US if the trademarks were removed with a file and orange was attached to the barrel end. Then Glock got involved. They started suing for the likeness of their guns and not just the trademarks. HK, S&W, and the other gun makers all jumped on the bandwagon and killed the import of all airsoft that looked like their gun models. Since the Stoner rifles and AK rifles were not trademarked, every company could make every variant of them, and they did. The gun companies started selling their trademarks to the highest bidder, with zero knowledge of who made good airsoft guns and who did not. Most of the terrible airsoft companies got the rights to make trademarked models and the market was flooded with just god awful airsoft rifles that werent M4 and AKs. Everyone who played back then remembers tons of G36s and MP5s at every field, but now nobody wants them because there were SO MANY bad ones that were out there.
Thomas Roach I'm go na agree with this. In fact this is the reason I got an mp5. The h&k crisis started and I was worried about being able to find one. I knew parts would be a problem since it's a v2 gun. But I've been hoarding mp5 externals because I had plans for a few builds and I was worried about being able to get one.
Please let us see more PKM's I run one with just a t shirt and shorts yelling "cyka blyat rush B". If you have never charged with 5000 rounds in a mag then you are missing out on some top Cheeki Breeki.
I'm kinda shocked at the guns displayed here. My gf introduced me to airsoft and my immediate reaction was to look for a m14 or p90 sad to see the m14 not get love
In my opinion, Airsoft and the airsoft Community is 100% influenced by television and movies. You see John Wick using a custom M4? Go ahead and use one. You watch Zero Dark Thirty or something similar? Go ahead and do a Navy SEAL build.
Bud, the reason I use an M4 is because it's the most practical option I had. It's full metal, it has universal Mags, and it has room for any attachments I may want, including my Bayonet.
I’m totally with you the Uzi is so underrated I just recently got the mini Uzi and I love it! The only thing that stinks about it is that the magazines are super expensive nearly 50 bucks for one mag, but the performance of the gun is really really good if I ever get enough money too I will probably end up getting a full-sized and a micro Uzi
When airsoft becomes legal in australia im getting the uzi the scorpion the terminator shotgun a sawn off shotgun....inshort a decent ammount of airsoft guns.
the only thing we have are gel ball blasters because its a pussy nation. cant even have guns that look like real ones. and even theese are on the way to being banned too.
I actually use two as support guns when rushing, since my primary is an M40A3. There are only a few fields I actually play it, but most allow dual sidearms or submachine-class support weapons. Not everyone can or wants to, but I would highly recommend picking up a second if you enjoyed running with just the one.
i got one, but the batteries are so crap, i got to rewire it for mini lipo's... all my 4 batteries went dead after 1 or 2 times loading... also the JG version got a hop up that sticks out by default, so i gotta run at least 0.28g BB's to get straight shots... that is a lot for a pistol... also the stock is useless, since the airsoft stock is not angled, like the real gun is...
Yeah, I have a TM one as a sidearm and it is superb. I would strongly disagree the notion that the AEP isn´t powerful or that it has poor range (the well ones are quite poor I must say, I had that one too). With .20 BBs the TM Hop-Up unit can make miracles and it is so quiet for an electric gun that it can be used super stealthy. Also 58 round mag together with full auto and it can be quite the short range run n gun choice. Also I have it basically since TM released it (I would bet that I was one of the first end users in our country) and the battery still works well. As a sidearm for sniper (without mag it is only big as a Mk23 SOCOM,), or super stealthy night action or a hidden gun for a civilian (if the game include some roleplay) it is one of the best choices I think.
I actually see a couple guys in full WWII kits every time I go. Had a guy use a real German helmet once that carried an AEG MG42. Things mag was so big that he could only carry one, so he carried containers of bbs and sat in a tower the whole game.
I genuinely don't understand why people hate on the AUG. personally, it's always been a favorite of mine, aesthetically speaking, and once I get enough money, I'll probably buy one
For a while i was going to buy a G36C, but i settled on a M4A1, (yes i know that the m4 is overused, but i only bought it as a first gun) but i absolutely LOVE the G36 platform.
The scarcity of G36 at my airsoft field is what inspired me to turn a G&G g36 into a heavy weapon platform! It shot at max FPS allowed out of the box, and since it kicked like a mule I thought “what a great thing to put a drum mag, long barrel and a bipod on!” Great video 👍
I've got two friends developing classic 1940 german loadouts, complete with MP40's, P08's and recreated uniforms. At any rate, figured I'd mention it, as you don't usually see WWII loadouts in airsoft, at least, not where I live.

I personally am thinking about getting a vz 61 scorpion myself as a cqb gun because 1. They're pretty affordable especially compared to other smgs. 2. It's a a very small platform making it extremely easy to maneuver with high capacity in cqb environments without resorting to the cursed (in my opinion as someone who prefers real life firearm replicas) high capa with a m4 mag adaptor shoved into the pistol. 3. It can be adapted to being a excellent sidearm for snipers and dmr players who is facing a group of enemies or to clear rooms with if you can find a holster for the thing.
I love being the odd guy running essentially relic weaponry while almost everyone else has some modern loadout. Rocking up to what feels like an. AK/AR convention with an MG34/Luger or M712 Trench Carbine/Broomhandle setup is sure to draw some looks and comments. Plus it feels quite nice shutting down some wannabe tacticools with it. "My ultra modern, top of the line Special Forces assault carbine will make short work of you guys." *center mass BB impact* "Get Mauser-d, scrub."
The reason the M4 is so ubiquitous is likely for a similar reason to why it's so ubiquitous in real life. Most players started off playing with one, and then when it comes time to upgrade, it makes a lot of sense to just keep with the M4 platform and use the same mags you already have, and keep all of your muscle memory with the same manual of arms.
The g3 is honestly my favorite platform. It started off with using it in battlefield in which i fell in love due to the looks and the performance of it. Then I got the chance to pick upo a brand new jg g3 for like $50 and have used it ever since.
I own a Thompson M1A1 and use it as my primary/most used gun. It’s a standard Kings Arms M1A1 (the Thompson at 8:54). It fires around 700 RPM at about 360-380 FPS. I have never modded it or upgraded anything. It actually bridges the gap between AR and SMG better than every gun. Incredibly accurate up to about 225-250 feet. At Desert Fox events, I tell them that I use it as more of an AR than SMG and they accept that considering how low the RPM is compared to everyone else’s upgraded SMG’s.
Some I can name are the m14, famas, Aug, acr (I remember how this gun was getting a lot of attention and people thought it would be a successor to the ar15 platform), and p90
Good friend of mine picked up a used Tavor from a fellow coworker and it’s an EXCELLENT gun. Has the footprint of my sbr m4 with a 16” barrel… simple as hell to work on and reliable as any m4 out there.
I have a Mauser c96 that I use. It may look crappy, but it’s a beast. I also have a nice Thompson m1a1 that I like to use every once in awhile instead of a boring m4
I'm sincerely happy whenever I see anything that isn't an m4 variant. I personally run a sterling smg, and I have met all of 7 people in my three years as an airsoft player who ran other platforms as a primary. Especially sad because one was an AK

Most of these you can get conversion kits for or add a mosfet (all those burst fires). You can get full length Mosins but I cant remember who made them. Ive seen Spas 12 full metals for sale but they were custom modified Cyma ones. Personally I just want a decent Enfield or K98k (was used in both wars so is more realistic as a production run) replica which doesn't run off a stupid system or cost £500
/K/avalier Yes well I'm talking about convenience and authenticity, I was referring to built in burst and no full auto, systema can kiss my ass. I've never seen a full metal SPAS 12, conversion kits can be hard to find, and as far as long Mosins go, they're not all the same in real life. Also, there's several Lee style rifles, I don't know much about em, and Kar98k was used in WW2, not WW1, the Kar98k is a shortened gewehr 98, which was used in both world wars, but was pretty much phased out by the Kar98k. I think it'd be interesting to see a full size one. However I see where you're coming from.
I own an M24 (Novritsch SSG 24) a Tavor M-TAR, a MP-7, a G36-K, the M14 standard and a M14 EBR (which is my favourite, because you can use it as a DMR or as a super precise Assault Rifle) Battle Rifles Are Great !
airsoft is moving towards cqb sized rifles with high rpm. even on large outdoor fields almost all you see is short rifles that can throw blankets of plastic down range with a dmr sprinkled in here and there on each team. people are sacrificing originality for a tried and proven form. why take risks with your gear when you can buy the same thing half your field uses and do well with? most consumers dont have the money to take risks with
I’m getting a matrix sr-25, which is a dmr, for my first gun, so I can see what I like, sniping or going full auto Rambo style. I am surprised nobody uses them more as they are great intermediates it seems on paper
I run my M14 EBR every game day, but it's HEAVY! Usually I'll run it until I get bored and then bust out the MP7, scatter gun, or Stoner. DMR build is best build but sometimes you just gotta run and gun.
I actually have an FAL SA50 from 6mmPro, and I love showing it off, along with my M14 and ICS M1 Garand. People are always asking me about them, and are rather facinated by them. I also just picked up an L85A2, and it takes my M4 mags as well, and am looking into getting a G36. I just love collecting the more underrated guns out there to show off at fields, and milsims
You are right on the Z61, One of the dudes I play with has a Z61 and uses it. Hes got the drum mag on it and hes got 2 of them. Thats 2 Z61s with drum mags. Lemmy tell you what, he'll clear a building in seconds with them, and hes got full auto on them and they are sure fun as heck to fart around with
This might be really off topic and unnecessary But to be honest my life to me hasn’t really been great, I felt like I lost everything before I had to move to San Antonio. I don’t really like it here either. It felt like I took a big step back than going forward. During that time period I decided to get into a new hobby (you should know by now) and through that hobby I found you. I’m always excited every time you upload a video, you really have that charm and that uniqueness that some other big channels don’t. For me you even made San Antonio a bit bearable to live in. Back in the early 2000s, I used to run an Sig552. That was weird for the time but I liked it. I switched between that my MP5A4. Now, I run a G36c or my MP7. I like all the looks I get when it's not another M4 clone.
If the sport of airsoft had been thought of a decade or two earlier I’m pretty sure we’d have more than just m4’s and ak’s on the field. Being a late 80’s/early 90’s kid the types of fire arms shown on movies and tv were fairly varied no matter what era you were watching. We had old school gangster movies and tv shows on regular television as well as low budget war movies of all sorts with the Military members themselves resembling more of a loose militia with all assortments of gear and firearms imaginable all over cable. About the time airsoft took off most movies and tv shows focused on the modern, seeing a random cop sporting a Webley revolver or a hard nosed loner rocking a Deagle instead of something more in line with what’s actually carried wasn’t seen nearly as much so of course Modern players who grew up watching modern media want to carry what they saw their own heroes carrying!
